Well, you've read the notes, the notes told the story of West Side Story, and now it is time for you to post until the rumbling cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DEMULCENT!
-
And no sign of dear reader George since Friday. Very unlike him and I hope everything's okay.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning, all!
I am very unhappy with my mouse trap purchase. That blasted rodent is laughing at me! I am beginning to feel like Tom chasing Jerry and failing at every turn. I must plan a new course of action.
I will take walk up Broadway today and see if that photo store on 88th Street still exists and still does passport photos. I am determined to send my passport application off tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest.
It will be a quiet day and that's fine with me.
More coffee, s'il vous plait!
-
Good morning, all.
Mousetrap vibes for Elmore. And vibes for the rest of us.
-
Good morning.
Now, my wife is calling me for breakfast.
-
Sunday!

The Memorial was very nice. Here are a few photos.

BIG PICTURES.
Thanks, Snapfish
-
Good morning, all.
A blessed morning, because I slept in at least two extra hours and boy does that feel good. I so rarely get to it to that extent these days.
Coffee! Oh yes, coffee. And perhaps some toast.
-
Very nice pictures, DR Jrand62.
-
I believe DR Elmore has but one task ahead of him now, and that's to think about what he's going to name it.
-
good morning to all
-
I've been battling a cold all week and I think it is almost gone and will be back to work tomorrow.
I am sure I got it from the dreaded airplane flight last week with all the recycle germs floating around.
-
DR JRand62, great photos!

Surely you know the mouse always wins. Why don't you keep it as a pet?
-
Nice photos DR Jrand62. Good to see that you're keeping up sartorial standards.

What great notes to wake up to this morning. There really is nothing quite like the subject of West Side Story to get the blood circulating. And I am now officially jealous that I could not see that high school production. I hope someone will upload some excerpts to YouTube.
The couple I have seen, including the one I played in, do not even deserve to be mentioned on the same page. Yes, all failures must be laid at the feet of the directors and music directors. There is no excuse for the butcherings I have witnessed. I'd actually blocked this from my memory till now, but the one I played in not only cut the Somewhere Ballet, they omitted the Cool dance! Why even do the show??? The orchestra played out of tune throughout, and the audiences were just as described in the notes. A horror. But I digress.
I believe I could read and hear people's stories of how the film entered (and, for many, changed) their lives without ever growing weary of it. There was no event like it. And I always wonder what it would have been like to be one of those for whom the original (or perhaps other) stage production entered their lives first, instead of the film. But I experienced the film life-changing event similarly, with the exception of not being able to see the roadshow engagements due to a combination of my age (two years younger than BK, I think?) and where we were living at the time. No theater in Fort Lauderdale ran roadshows -- you drove to Miami or Miami Beach for that. Which was not a bad thing, as it made them even more of an event, and I have a few wonderful memories of those (My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, Mad World) we later made the (pre-I-95) "trip" for.
But I was at the first local showing of the post-roadshow engagement (the first few of which preserved the intermission), and I remember that night like it was last week. I drove family and friends NUTS with West Side Story for the next year or more.

Thanks everyone! I try DR DOUG R.

Been trying to figure out how to redeem an Ultraviolet movie code in iTunes. The daft code box does nothing when you click on it. I finally figured out that you don't click on the box, you simply have to start typing. Does iTunes deliberately try to make things difficult?
-
So lovely, Jrand, thank you for posting those photos.
-
John G - Oh, by columnist, i meant the equivalent of what people like the feature reporters do, who write articles but don't have to express opinions - they get their tickets paid for by someone else, get a salary, but don't have to write reviews that say "good" or "bad" - it would be the restaurant version of what people like Earl Wilson did, or Cindy Adams, or maybe even a nice version of Michael Riedel (a ncie version of Mr. Riedel of course being the version of him who does his Tv talk show, LOL).
-
John G -Are there people who write about food, get the food free - but don;t have to actually express an opinion about it - just report about it factually in the press?
-
I'm up, I'm up. We seem to be havin' a heat wave here in the City of Studio. I may have to actually turn on the air conditioning later.
-
Page one? One page?
-
And seriously - has anyone heard from George? I do not ever recall him missing a complete day of postings since the day he arrived.
-
PBS is showing this Kate Smith tribute by operatic mezzo Stephanie Blythe; she is quite amazing!
-
I know people get involved with stuff and sometimes have to miss getting online regularly. I certainly do that. But it's not like DR George to not give a few posts, and now it's nearly two days.
But I can top that: DR Jane, last posted on Wednesday the 17th? Am I forgetting something, like a trip or something coming up?
-
Here's something I nearly forgot: PAGE TWO.
-
Greetings from the big easy
-
Pleasant day today and I hope it continues that way for the rest of the week because I'm going to Wales. My sister has wi fi at long last so hopefully I won't be incommunicado (wherever that is).
-
Greetings from the big easy
Now that's something you don't read every day.
Greetings, DR TCB!
-
The plane trip consumed my entire day. Well, that is not quite true. I got to the hotel at around seven, but I was totally burned out. I took some pain pills watched some TV, and then I crashed. Now, I am checked out, I have dirty carpet pictures for Laura, and I am waiting for the shuttle to the ship. Then I can relax.

I am so proud.
-
Good morning.
-
One of the first things that's going to change around here and I may even try to change instantly, is for new registrations having to use a code before they can click - you know, one of those random six letters and numbers things you see everywhere these days - that is the only way to stop these disgusting and endless spam registrations - I nuke on average sixty a day - maybe more - and I'm tired of it.
-
And no sign of dear reader George since Friday. Very unlike him and I hope everything's okay.
George has double shows all weekend.

Elmore, do you have Walgreens there? They take passport photos...and damn good ones.
-
TCB posted from the Big Easy about dirty pictures? I read it on my blackberry.
oh wait, dirty carpet pictures, oh, that's better. :)
-
TCB - Will you be able to read and post from the ship?
-
Weren't Big Easy and Little Easy characters in Grey Gardens?
-
Guess I'll go jog in a little while.
-
We have Walgreens in Manhattan but I don't know if any are up by Larry.

Believe me, I'm not trying to be a jerk about this, but CAPTCHAs are NOT 100 percent effective. They will certainly reduce the number of spambot registrations but the CAPTCHA will not stop all spambots. There are actually companies that employ people to break the CAPTCHAs which then allows the spambot to continue the registration. Here are some articles about CAPTCHAs and spambots and how they work (or don't work).
CAPTCHA 1 (http://www.lockergnome.com/net/2011/09/27/does-captcha-really-work/)
CAPTCHA 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAPTCHA)
CAPTCHA 3 (http://www.gohacking.com/what-is-captcha-how-it-works/)
CAPTCHA 4 (http://deals.woot.com/questions/details/54adf722-f02e-4234-810f-ec63ff3e2dac/do-those-captcha-things-actually-work)

Thank you, DR TCB! I'll check. I'm happy to knw that you are coping with the orfeal of getting to the ship. Have a wonderful time! Do not terrorize the crew. Come back to us safe.
-
We have Walgreens in Manhattan but I don't know if any are up by Larry.
I have a memory there's one at Amsterdam and 86th. Maybe it's a CVS? The photo place at 88th and Broadway is no more, dammit!
I'll find a place tomorrow.
-
Have a good cruise TCB.

Today I cooked lamb chops with cauliflower cheese and mashed potatoes, which was extremely delicious - and I'm having the same tomorrow!

I'll have some of that.

Heard from George - he'll be back today.
-
Back from a three-mile jog in the new running shoes - they took about half the run to get used to but I think they're fine now.
-
John G -Are there people who write about food, get the food free - but don;t have to actually express an opinion about it - just report about it factually in the press?
I'm sure there are. I think that would be more magazine writing than newspapers. There seems to be one such person at San Antonio Magazine. She also edits the local Zagat book and needs to know the restaurants without writing about them.
-
Great photos, JRand. Thanks for sharing them.
-
Just back from an hour long deep-tissue massage. It was quite nice. I think I'm going to go drink some water and take a nap.

Well, since we're so close...

I'm still alive!! On Friday, BK wrote:
Not that I'm naming names, but has George all but disappeared from this here site? I mean, what IS going on? One could always count on his late night postings, but he has been in absentia for over two weeks now as I see it, just with the sporadic posts. We don't like sporadic posts and George has some 'splainin' to do.
Two words: "Reservoir Dogs."
-
Let me add four words: "Two show each night!" AND it all lasts until midnight!
-
Also, a lot of shows have been accumulating on my DVRs that I want to watch before it gets filled up, so yesterday after I woke up, I watched five, count 'em, FIVE episodes of "Antiques Roadshow" on my bedroom DVR. My computer isn't up in my bedroom, so I couldn't post from there.
-
I left for the theater right after watching said five, count 'em, FIVE episodes of "Antiques Roadshow" and we had two very good shows! Both houses were almost full! I only counted two or three empty chairs at each performance! People are coming to see them and really are enjoying them! Eric, our board president, said that on Thursday's show, we broke even with all our expenses and now every show after that is extra! Hoo and Ray!!
-
Welcome back, George. Even if you didn't really leave.

I'm now ketchuping on all the posts and all is well. Thanks for your concern. :D

Thanks, John G!

It's concern like this that makes HHW very special. :-*

Welcome "back", DR George!

Coming back to West Side Story, just the opening slideshow-style photos on their website are amazing:

Well, I hate to do it (no, I really do!), but I must be going. We have a 2:30 matinee and then I'm going to my sister's to visit with my cousin and his wife (they're up for a couple of days) before I have to get to our 7:30 show. Fortunately, that'll be done by 9:00 pm and I can get home by a reasonable hour and ketchup on yesterday's post (I haven't read any...yet).
Until later!
-
Is George gone already? Did he go to work on Facebook the Musical?
:)

John G - Just read what a deep tissue massage is. isn;t that dangerous with bruise potential if someone doens;t really know what they;re doing?
-
I assume th person who did yours really knows what they're doing, of course.

Sunday afternoon greetings from HOME! Richard and I drove a total of 470 miles in 29 hours and I have now slept away from home for the past 4 Saturday nights. I'm not putting my travel bag away until I've spent a Saturday night in my own bed...
-
Thank you, for the photos DR JRand. Looks like it was a meaningful service. The one we attended was a more typical routine, but there was a Masonic component at the funeral home and a military rite at the cemetery.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Our local UPS Store takes passport photos......but as I think I posted here a couple of years ago, when I took them to the Post Office, they were not satisfactory and I had to have the USPS take them over.

Wonder if that's part of the Post office revenue raising program we've heard so much about
- the one with the number 800-DISS-UPS :)

I don't favor those back-alley kind of massage places. Well, perhaps not for this kind of massage.

Good story on Hal Prince in the Washington Post, though the person they quote for corroborating praise is one of Elmore's least favorite Washington directors:

Just had a frustrating email exchange which ended with me phoning someone up and asking the person whether he had actually read my email or whether he had deliberately ignored it - nothing like being confrontational! All resolved happily though.
-
Hello, everyone.
I was pleased to hear that the London Marathon was held without any problems. I can imagine that it was rather scary for the runners, coming so soon after Boston.
-
Sorry about the confrontation, DR Doug. Glad it was resolved.

John G - Just read what a deep tissue massage is. isn;t that dangerous with bruise potential if someone doens;t really know what they;re doing?
Fred, I sometimes have deep-tissue massages. Ordinary Swedish massages just don't do much for me. Yes, you want someone who knows what they're doing, but most of those who do deep-tissue do know what they're doing. They tend to be the better-trained people. I've had many, many massages over the years. I've had some from people who weren't particularly good in my opinion, but never anyone who was reckless. And, because I have injuries, I've always been particularly careful.

I have no news.

Well, I'm off to another Fiesta event. This time it's dinner at the country club, at the invitation of a friend, where the members and families gather to watch the fireworks come over from nearby Fort Sam Houston.
-
I've been productive and have finished two-thirds of the commentary for the next Kritzerland show. I can probably wrap it up tonight, and that will leave me plenty of time to finesse. This is more songs than we usually do, so I'm trying to keep the commentary shorter, but don't want to not have the interesting and fun facts along the way.
-
Thanks for the "But Alive" parody lyric comments :) , maybe I will try to get my Margo Channing Tatum in ALL ABOUT EVIL DEAD project off the ground. When TCB gets back from his cruise, maybe he can do the Channing Tatum casting. !!

Eric Schaefer is not one of my least favorite DC directors; he's one of my least favorite directors anywhere. And a poor example of a human being,
I've spent the afternoon watching the 1995 PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. I cannot believe it's nearly 20 years old!

LOL!
Why are you not working with Forbidden Broadway?

vixmom - I think the idea is like with Newsical. The writing on that show is not a team effort. He writes it all by himself.

Newsical is, of course, not to be confused with Newsies.

I am back from seeing a concert version of Inside Out, which was merely okay. They had a light supper after, consisting of sliders, which were of no interest to me, so I just had a couple of melon slices and a couple of bites of a light salad. After, I went to Jerry's and had a sandwich and no fries. Then I came home and went right back to work on the commentary, which is now basically finished, although I'm sure I'll be futzing with it.
