Well, you've read the notes, the notes had no form or content and yet had form and content anyway, and now it is time for you to post until the contented cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: NYCHTHEMERON!
-
I'm first after BK? It's been a while since that's happened!
-
vixmom - Is vixter's birthday going to be celebrated today by the vixfamily because she has school tomorrow/
-
Re the notes, my question for BK ( and also anyone else who has opinions, of course and wants to chime in); Does a play or musical featuring the actual songs of Rodgers and Hart in a dramatic context need the approval of the songs' copyright owners - and if so, do you think that would hamper the freedom of the writer to tell the story of the people?
-

Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning, Ben. Vibes for more Anthony health improvement.
-
Good morning, all.
Continued health vibes for Anthony.
-
Good morning.
-
Wow!
I'm approaching the 5000 mark.
Maybe I'll hit it sometime this week.
;)
-
He's doing better. Thanks, all for the vibes.
He's taking antibiotics through Tuesday. He has skipped all his tap dancing classes and he's eating lots of chicken broth with pastina.
-
Good morning, all! I slept quite poorly last night; my last bizarre dream involved Liz Callaway, conductor David Abell, a musical with a nineteenth century setting composed by Andre Previn and a last minute orchestration. Oy!
This is going to be a weird day and I do not look forward to much of it. At 2:30 I have a ticket to see THE RISE AND FALL OF THE CITY OF MAHAGONNY, an opera I truly love, at Manhattan School of Music, directed by my goddaughter's mother. I suspect there will be people I have no desire to see at the performance, and I am not sure Ireally want to be there. Decisions, decisions . . .
DR JohnG, trust me: you never want to see the NY Philharmonic abortion of CAMELOT with Nathan Gunn, who may have been the only good thing about it, as Lancelot: you'd have to deal with Lonny Price's god-awful production, Gabriel Byrne's unmusical Arthur, Bobby Steggert's punked out queen of a Mordred, and a lot of terrible musical decisions about the score. I did like Fran Drescher as Morgan le Fey; she made me laugh, and it was nice to hear "The Persuasion," but with three good menas Dinadan, Lionel, and Sagramore, why didn't we get "Take Me To The Fair"?
-
I'm also still waiting for a resolution to the last battle between the Man from Philadelphia and myself about his liner notes as well as an answer from City Opera about a singer's dates.
-
Thanks to DR JEANNE for the interview comments! And DR JANE what a great photo! Love hearing about your trip!
Hope you enjoyed PIPPIN IN THE CAR, DR VIXMOM! Some other friends of mine saw it Saturday night and are raving about it on FACEBOOK.
DR CHAS SMITH - I will see if I can find that picture I was talking about. It showed up in my feed because I am a Facebook Friend of BK....so be sure the friend him and you will see all the pictures of him posted on the social media.
-
Or if you friend ME on Facebook, I can share it with you there....that might be better since it's not my photo.

You can find me at:

Good morning to all

And thinking about MR BK's brushes with folks from the past mentioned in the notes this weekend....
I am a Facebook Friend of actor Roger Mobley - who some of you may remember. Somehow, he doesn't say how, he got a box of over 1000 fan letters that were written to him in the 1960's. He posted a couple of them and said he may try to find the girls who wrote him and finally answer them.... He was amazed and wrote: "I was invited to proms, sporting events, and even for a week in Dallas....."

Here is an interesting artifact
An interview with Arthur Laurents, Stephen Sondheim & Beni Montresor (Set Designer) on Camera 3. They talk about Do I Hear A Waltz?

A day of rest!
-
And thanks for your legal insight DR CILLA LIZ....I am certainly hoping things go as you wrote....
-
Good morning, all.
A very late sleep-in for me this morning, and boy did I need it.
Now I have to see about getting the energy level up in the next couple of hours. More coffee!
-
VIBES to DR Elmore for a day that doesn't suck ... too badly!
MAHAGONNY -- one of the greatest pieces ever.
-
I remember watching a little bit of that CAMELOT in horror and disappointment -- but also in self-doubt, because I have not kept up with the show over the years, and didn't feel I had the knowledge to judge it. I never even went to the movie back in the day, and every time I've attempted to watch it has failed. But I love that original score as much as I love anything.
-

It's a Mahagonny kinda day. I was listening to some of that earlier today. I'd say go and keep a low profile.
And thanks for the heads-up on Camelot.
-
Okay, DR Jrand62, I just sent the friend request.
And I'll have you all know this is the first time ever I have expanded my tiny presence on Facebook beyond the one tiny group (my high school class) my account was set up for. A huge step for the likes of moi.
-
I have less than one hour to jump in the shower and get ready to play a matinee. I just thank my lucky stars it's a 3:00 one, not 2:00.
-
Good afternoon!
-
They just opened a P.F. Chang here (first one I think). My aunt chose it for her birthday dinner in 2 weeks. I am very curious since I have heard a lot about it.
-
PAGE TWO at twenty minutes past NOON dance??
-
DR CHAS SMITH I have shared the photo on your Timeline, so you should be able to see it. I am not sure how FB works, but if you end up getting ALL of my posts you can Unfriend me, no problem. I wouldn't want you to have to wade through what I look at every day.
-
I just cut 1000 words out of the history of DEAREST ENEMY and I need to cut another 750-1000. Oy! I have to do the same to the essay on the restoration. Already I'm losing information I know will bite my butt later. I am keeping copies of the original full-length drafts, in case anyone cares.
-
From DR Laura:
The most exciting part about Carlsbad Cavern was the bats flying out at night!
Sadly we were too early for the bats.
-
From DR George:
The men's final show tonight was great! It was sold out! Actually, we added eight, count 'em, EIGHT seats because of all the demand. The grandfather of one of the actors got there just a bit too late and had to be turned away. He was not amused. The show itself was their best performance. A great time was had by all!
That's great.
-
And DR JANE what a great photo! Love hearing about your trip!
Thank you.
-
I forgot to mention I like the Cheescake Factory.
-
And the word of the day is: NYCHTHEMERON!
And The Song Of The Day And Night Is: NIGHT AND DAY
-
I'm up - wanted to sleep a bit later but alas, no.
-
I should think any play using existing songs has to clear those songs and make the royalty deal with the publisher - there should be no constraints on their use.
-
And I've decided to pass up the MAHAGONNY: too much bad blood these days and i have no wish to see former friends.
-
I'm up from a nice nap. First load of laundry in the washing machine. And I've started the Ross Hunter version of "Lost Horizon" for the afternoon viewing. I don't think I've ever seen this all the way through.
-
DR John G please let me know what you think of the film.
-

Can't the longer more detailed version be available online?

I never miss a Larry Kramer - Liv Ullmann musical.

BK, could they have say over the content of the play as a condition of letting the dramatist use the songs?
-
I finally got round to watching LILITH on Blu-ray. I can't believe it's only 114 minutes. It seemed more like 114 hours ;D
-
Sunday afternoon greetings! We are home from a dreary trip to Lima. I think the sun is finally trying to come out, which will be very welcome.
-
And thinking about MR BK's brushes with folks from the past mentioned in the notes this weekend....
I also had a couple of way-back moments yesterday. For the luncheon at country club #1, I picked up my (and DR Elmore's) friend Loyce. We had a great time catching up. During the dinner at country club #2, I was looking at the names of the committee members in the printed program and discovered that one of them was a woman who had been a student worker in the library where I began my career. She was stunned when I introduced myself. We reminisced about when I encouraged her to audition for STAR-SPANGLED GIRL and she got the title role. We probably hadn't seen one another since 1976 and she's already friended me on Facebook.
-
Did a three-mile jog and shall now begin liner notes for our next release. In the meantime, a strange review from Playbill for A Time for Singing - strange, but it has resulted in a nice stream of sales.

It's been a few years since I saw the film "Words and Music" where Mickey rooney played Hart, but wasn;t the 'insurmountable all-consuming problem" attributed to Hart in that film which haunted the charcater in Mickey Rooney's role - so much stated in that film''s screenplay as the fact that he was short? (or was is just the failed romance with the Betty Garrett character?)
I don't recall Hart's height as being an issue of any kind in the screenplay of "Words and Music". He was consumed with unrequited love for Betty Garrett and her final rebuff of him sent him into his alcohol-induced decline in that film.
-
Have written half the liner notes and shall now go get something to eat, then watch something, then finish liner notes.
-
Well, FJL, here it is, since you asked:
I found most of the movie a mess, but I couldn't stop watching it and I was emotionally engaged in the story. But Frank Capra it ain't.
Plus side: Sally Kellerman and Bobby Van (the two people who had been in musicals before, go figure).
The worst: The homogenized voices and overblown orchestrations that robbed any character of much of Bacharach's music, the dreadful Hermes Pan choreography (redundant, I know), the cheesy sets and costumes that haven't aged well (were those skorts that the male dancers were wearing in their big number? And did Ross Hunter personally oil them down between takes?)
I have a reserve at the library on the Capra version. I'm looking forward to seeing it even more.
-
Frank Capra's Lost Horizon is one of my favorite movies ever....

Thanks for clarifying that, Ron

One thing I've sensed is that Larry Kramer - for the screenplay itself - has nothing to be embarrassed about. And certainly as songs, the Bacharach and David numbers seem to have quite a few fans.
Maybe one that could have a nice following with a stage XANADU-type treatment?? if everyone (Kramer, Bacharach, and David's heirs) had a sense of humor about it, maybe?

I certainly enjoyed the score for A TIME FOR SINGING. On the other hand, based on what I know about the book (e.g. the change in narrator from what was in the movie), I would probably have not liked the play as much had I actually seen it.

It has its good parts, but they don't add up. In watching the supplementary material, it seems that Hunter had envisioned something more along the lines of a movie with music more than a movie musical. That may explain why there's little music in the first or last half hour.
I don't think it would work on stage any more than any of the other attempts at a musical version of it because it's not comedic enough. Spoofing the story would probably be too heavy handed and get old too quickly.

Where the
Hell heck is everyone today? Did BK close down the site when I wasn't looking?

Yes, but maybe he drank because he was short in the film? or drank because the romance wasn;t working out?
-
Hi, TCB! Where are you ? Hope you're enjoying the cruise!
-
I'm glad I didn't go into the District of Columbia yesterday to see Barbra at the White House Correspondents Dinner. I found out she didn't walk the Red Carpet so I probably would have missed her.
-
Laundry is done.
-
Time to go out to dinner with friends to celebrate the end of Fiesta.
-
Well, right now on a stage in Boston, Peter Pan and Captain Hook are giving their last performance!
-
That was a very nice photo, DR Jane!
-

Hmm, I asked as I recently read the book. :)
Thanks for the report. We will have to watch the Capra version.
-
That was a very nice photo, DR Jane!
Thank you,
-
Hi DR TCB.
-
Bruce I agree with you about Changs. There is one near my brother's house so we often order food to go for family gatherings there. They seem to like it more than Keith & I do.
-
Ahoy, DR TCB!
-
Twin Dragon on Pico near Robertson is much better than Chang's. Next time it might be worth it for us to pick up the food there, or do what we did last time. We had lunch there with Keith's brother & took our left overs to my brother's while they all had Chang's.
-
I had some bacon and eggs for lunch, then came back and finished the liner notes. Whew! Only two more sets to go. They've been sent to the guy who's been helping edit the liners, he'll send back corrected, then the designer can pop them into the booklet - inlay card and front cover are finished.
-
Now, the rest of the day and evening are mine all mine.
-
Looking forward to TAR tonight!
-
The weather has turned really warm. Went out in a t-shirt!
I think all week is supposed to be high 70s. This is especially nice since the weather has stayed much colder here till recently.
Took my bike out for the first time yesterday (which is really late).
-
Your bike, FINALLY!! :)
-
Back.
It pleases me no end to say that not only is the rest of this evening mine, so is all day tomorrow.
-
Enjoy your day off.
-
Thank you, DR Jane, I'll do that. Got plenty of things to get done, but they're all for ME. :)
Wednesday's an all-ME day, too, but that's the only other complete one for the week.
-
Two "all ME" days in one week, not bad :)
-
BARNUM casualty count, to date: one (1) shoulder dislocation.
(An actor on stage, not a piano player!) :)
That's all, thank the heavens. Five more performances to get through.
-
Ouch.
-
Page three? Three pages?
-
;D
-
Great pictures yesterday. :)
-
I have Nutella in the kitchen. Love it. ;D ;D
-
:P ;D
-
Hi Sam.
-
Health vibes. :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
-
Hi Jane.
;D
-
My nap was great today. Nothing like an unmade bed with lots of pillows and covers (all messy) to just crawl into. ;)
-
Well it's getting cold and dark. Time to get moving for dinner and work tomorrow.
Night everyone.
-
Listened to Casino Royale today.
;D
-
Mega vibes for Monday. 8)
-
My nap was great today. Nothing like an unmade bed with lots of pillows and covers (all messy) to just crawl into. ;)
:)
-
Have a nice evening DR Sam.
-
I'm going to read for a bit.
-
I read a few chapters in my book & stopped as Keith is popping corn.
'night
-
Page four? Four pages?
-
well today was a busy day
-
church from just before 9 until after 12
-
Sorry, Jane. I forgot the hazelnut aversion.
-
Spurs sweep!
-
And that covers my sports interests.
-
Had a nice Tex-Mex dinner out tonight. Great margaritas.
-
Watching the last of the Thin Man movies, "Song of the Thin Man," with a great supporting cast include Gloria Grahame, Patricia Morison, and Jayne Meadows.
-
The Vixter served as assisting minister
if you advance to 37:54 you can see her in action http://www.ascensionlutheran.org/news-events/ascension-live/ (http://www.ascensionlutheran.org/news-events/ascension-live/)
-
Then hurried home - the Vixter had to work at both of her jobs today - the convenience store and then to the church to clean
-
Meanwhile Vixdad and I went to our friends' home for the day
-
The husband was the Best Man at our wedding, and Vixdad and I were both in their wedding party two years later
Because various life events and our mutual inability to coordinate schedules we have not been able to get together for over a year - their kids (now 9 & 10) grew up so much !
-
We had a fantastic time and we laughed and ate and laughed some more
-
The we drove home and had some tea and watched Game of Thrones
-
and then the Vixter came home and we gave her her birthday gifts
-
She has been wanting to learn to sew for some time and we have just joined a "Sew and Share" group at church - so we bought her a sewing machine
-
She as quite pleased
-
That's a very nice present.
-
Five!
-
This morning I delivered to the church the five door prizes that i put together (http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff302/HHWgroup/doorprizesgolfouting2013001_zps011b1c52.jpg) (http://s238.photobucket.com/user/HHWgroup/media/doorprizesgolfouting2013001_zps011b1c52.jpg.html)
-
three of them were just two bottles of wine in ice bucket
-
two of them were gardening gifts - a planter with a garden stone, 4 packets of flower seeds, a pair of gardening gloves, a transplanter handspade and a hand cultivator/hoe and finally a garden windchime
-
One was dragon fly themed
(http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff302/HHWgroup/doorprizesgolfouting2013004_zpsa2b32ca8.jpg) (http://s238.photobucket.com/user/HHWgroup/media/doorprizesgolfouting2013004_zpsa2b32ca8.jpg.html)
-
and the other was butterfly themed
(http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff302/HHWgroup/doorprizesgolfouting2013003_zps2ab86492.jpg) (http://s238.photobucket.com/user/HHWgroup/media/doorprizesgolfouting2013003_zps2ab86492.jpg.html)
-
I thought of DR Laura when I was putting the gardening gifts together
-
I only count four in the first photo, but they are beautiful.
-
One of the wine/ice bucket combos was behind the other two
-
Good night, Vixmom.
Good night, all.
-
I only count four in the first photo, but they are beautiful.
thank you - since we were invited to our friend's home we did not attend the fundraiser dinner -
I hope whomever won the prizes were happy with them - I had a lot of fun putting them together
-
good night John!
-
thank you for helping me get to page 5
-
Finished with my viewing, which I'm finished with.
-
vixmom - Did that dialogue with you and vixdad under your posts really happen? :) It' funny no matter what
-
They are lovely gifts, Vixmom. I would love to have won one.
-
This was online - "Oh Vicki, you're so fine" cheer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7Oz3r60Dqk

From DR Laura:
The most exciting part about Carlsbad Cavern was the bats flying out at night!
Sadly we were too early for the bats.
Oh I think it's fine to miss bats....I'm hoping mine are gone forever
-
Good evening or should I say morning.
-
Last night I had a very good time at the art auction fundraiser. I think I may have posted after that....I had a bit more wine than I had planned on having....spent a bit more money than I planned (not outrageously more, just a little over budget) and had a lot more fun than I thought I would have
-
I ran into this man who had been really nasty to me at the Casino public meeting. He came up and said that I was yelling at him at the meeting. I told him I didn't yell at anyone at the meeting. He was really nasty to me again. He's a retired probation officer. Anyway, he told me he wanted the Hard Rock Casino because they were going to have a world class buffet and that I wouldn't be able to stay away from the buffet. The man is a loonatic. He's a retired probation officer, anyway, I finally got away from him.
-
Fast forward to about 5:00 AM. I was having a dream that the new casino opened and all you could get to eat there was iceberg lettuce. I woke up laughing.
-
Let's see. I got up at 5:00 AM, took a shower, got dressed, laid down on the bed and fell asleep. About an hour later I took off my jeans climbed under the covers and woke up at 10:45 am.
-
I ate lunch then went to flute choir practice. It was such a nice day that we practiced outside. What fun! For two hours we played and it was lovely.
-
I came back to town, did my grocery and pet store shopping for the weekend. Made dinner and then spent 5 hours writing a brief that's due tomorrow. I have to put it together, but it's done, so that won't be a problem
-
Then I cleaned up the dishes in the kitchen and sat for a moment. I need to get to sleep so I can get to work in the morning. I already told Edith I'd be late.
-
Lovely gifts Vixmom.
-
Our Broadway series next year is West Side Story, Hello Dolly with Sally Struthers and Hair. Has anyone seen these on tour? I'm pretty disappointed when Des Moines gets Book of Mormon and Once. I may have to trek down there for Once. I haven't checked Omaha yet, that would be a lot closer.
-
And they are having one of the Cirques and Straight No Chaser. The unannounced add on is apparently Harry Connick Jr. That sounds good.
-
I'm actually quite disappointed with next years season. They really got a lot of new people to come to the shows this year and I have a feeling they won't be going next year. Straight no chaser was here 6 months ago. Cirque was here last year as was Cirque de Symphony, which is also coming back. Hmmm
-
OK time for bed. this should get us to page 6
-

But if you want to see it anyway...let me know.
;)
