Well, you've read the notes, the notes needed help, and now it is time for you to post until the helpful cows come home.

And the word of the day is: PERFERVID!

Morning all.
That is all.
-
good morning to all.
-
I enjoyed HELP a lot and don't understand the DNR and Halo stuff people talk about. I have blu-rays that people complained about it, but never see what the problems they pontificate. I watch the films and enjoy them.
-
Good morning, all.
That looks like great breakfast, DingDong.
Didn't sleep much at all, despite taking a Benedryl. Bummer. I will probably be worthless at the office today. Oh, well.
-
BK, did you thank Daphne, aka Robert Morse, for the nice note he'd sent on your Sugar remix?

I was wary about seeing Poltergeist II: The Other Side when I read a review that mentioned there was a credit for the actor who played "The Vomit Creature".
I saw the film anyways and that scene with "The Vomit Creature" was a little bit on the ridiculous side.

here is photo from a scene that was cut from the film

Good morning, all!
I have little to report; my workload has dropped to little, and I will spend today thinking about Marc Blitzstein's music rather than Jerome Kern's, It's also a good chance to hang out with my adopted son Joshie and support him, since the new orchestration commissioned by the Kurt Well Foundation is his.
I must also call Kim Criswell and plan some time with her between tnow and her return to London. I'm thinking Saturday is my best bet.
-
I also keep thinking today is Friday. Oy!

Whenever we would venture into Indiana, when I was growing up, whether it was to pick strawberries or visit friends, we would want to stop in Maplewood to visit a Polly's Freeze, a roadside stand where you could get a great orange sherbet swirl cone. I remember having my first corn dog there -- and I remember getting car sick on said corn dog on the way home.
The place opened in the early 1950s and is still there, from what I read online, though the website hasn't been update in a year.
I always loved the big neon bird sign, and this was long before I owned my own bird.

DR George wrote:
I just watched the 2-hour season premiere of "Franklin & Bash." I really like this show. It's a fun buddy show.
I really like this show too. Although they haven't shown the premiere here yet. Hopefully soon. They usually like to pair it with Suits which I think starts in a few weeks.
-
Good morning, all.
Oy! Allergy day today. They've gone kind of easy on me so far this summer, but this was a sniffly sneezey eye-watery low energy one from the get-go.
-
I love POLTERGEIST and will never forget the thrills of first seeing it. If memory serves, that was at Loews Paramount -- as I will always remember the El Capitan.
Never went to the sequels, have only seen them on cable once or twice, and long ago. This will have to be rectified.

TOD --
Sadly, we were never much of a westerns family... the one exception in later years being BONANZA. I regret this, and would very much enjoy making up for those lost years via DVD/BLU.
-
I live in Arizona. I LIVE in a western.
-
;D
And in Westerns, it never rains.
-
CHEYENNE was my favourite TV western growing up. I also watched THE BIG VALLEY and BONANZA. What has been fun watching the Western channel these days is becoming familiar with ones I didn't watch growing up...things like PALADIN and GUNSMOKE, particularly the latter. A very gritty, often dark western where bad things happened and good people often didn't win. It's also interesting renewing acquaintances with other shows like WYATT EARP...and almost juvenile western that doesn't really hold up...Wyatt Earp never shooting to kill and drinking milk...Puh-leeze!
-
BK, question? Why do you even go to sites where amateurs review DVD releases and get into the arcane things like the transfer? Who cares? Just what the DVD and decide for yourself whether you like the transfer or not. Why waste valuable time debating with anonymous morons and getting irritated by them?

Sorry; I don't know from Westerns. ::)
You're sorta the MBarnum of the east coast, yes?
-
TOD:
Hopalong Cassidy was my very favorite cowboy.
Wild Bill Hickock and Paladin were up there, too.
Loved, Loved, Loved Roy and Dale (before Dale channeled the living Anita Bryant in the 1980s).
"Happy Trails" remains one of my favorite songs.
-
Reading bk's notes, I've realized that I have never seen any of the Beatles movies. I guess I should get on that. Today is a packed day. Funeral to play at 9:00am, heading over to the theatre to assist in Really Rosie which should be fun. Tonight, I'm playing a rehearsal for Into the Woods and it's a run through of Act Two, which means I should probably see if "Your Fault" and "The Last Midnight" are in my fingers somewhere, because that could be a disaster. They have been at one point, but who knows now.
-
You're sorta the MBarnum of the east coast, yes?
To paraphrase Babs (as Dolly): That would be for others to decide. ::)
But I will say this: I'm not nearly as handsome or as charming as DR MBarnum.

TOD: My dad is the western fanatic. As a kid, though, I loved Bonanza and Gunsmoke as well as The Wild, Wild West and High Chaparral. In more recent years, I found Deadwood, especially the second season, to be some of the best TV I've ever seen.

BTW: I earn no royalties off of this film. I'm just very proud of it.

When I was doing publicity, I represented several folks who starred on classic TV Westerns:
Michael Ansara (Broken Arrow)
Henry Darrow (High Chaparral)
John Russell (Lawman)
Robert Horton (Wagon Train)
Also, Clayton Moore (The Lone Ranger) was a neighbor of mine.
-
Good morning, all,
I saw HELP in the theater and loved it, but haven't seen it since, I don't think. I should take another look one of these days.
TOD: As scroll through the memory banks, I realize I watched a ton of westerns growing up, but there were lots on TV.
Some of my faves:
The Rifleman
The Lone Ranger
Bat Masterson
Maverick
Cheyenne
Gunsmoke.
and yes, Bonanza later on.

Looks like the people at Masterworks heard Larry's request
Masterworks will also release the 1972 U.K. musical, Cowardy Custard, the story of Noël Coward's life told through song and biographical snippets. It features such songs as "You Were There," "Mad About the Boy" and "Marvelous Party," sung by Tony Award winner Patricia Routledge. The double-CD album of the original Mermaid Theatre production will be released Sept. 10.

-
Oh DR Ron Pulliam, but I do know from westerns!
My dad was a western fan, big time. THE VIRGINIAN, HIGH CHAPPERAL (sp), GUNSMOKE, and BONANZA were always on in our home.
As a teenager I began to watch BONANZA off and on when a particular favorite would be guest starring...like Gloria Talbott, Merry Anders, of Cal Bolder.
Lately, I have been watching WYATT EARP, which I find to be much better than I thought it would be. Also, the short lived series that starred John Gavin titled DESTRY is kind of fun and I am glad that I picked up the dvd set.
MAVERICK is another one that I enjoy seeing, and any episode of CHEYENNE where Clint Walker removes his shirt (which is just about every one) is a good episode.
-

I loved just about every western there was. A few more of my favorites that have held up in re-runs are....
THE LAWMAN
THE RIFLEMAN
WAGON TRAIN
More later when I return.

DR JRand, I hope you day gets better..much better!

Oh yes, and we know why DR Jane liked THE LAWMAN so much!! Two words: Peter. Brown.

HOO AND RAY!! Just a couple of months ago, I came across someone selling the soundtrack on CD on eBay, and I wanted to get it, but I knew that it would just be the album on a burned CD...and there was no telling if it sounded any good, so I didn't get it. I can't believe that it's finally going to be offically released!! :D

BK, did you thank Daphne, aka Robert Morse, for the nice note he'd sent on your Sugar remix?
I thought about it, but he was reading the newspaper and I'm shy about bothering people although I'm sure he would have been nice.

So, are these Masterworks issues the first albums of show music that are properly released in oh what three years? Everything else has been through Arkiv and burned CDRs. If these are being released it's thanks to labels like Kritzerland because the same thing happened back in 1993 - no one doing anything until they see that someone else is having success - it's funny. But if it's through Arkiv I just lose interest. But if they're pressed then the Julius Monk revue is a surprise and will be a disaster for them - sad, but true. And the Coward will be a disaster - they wouldn't be for us, but Masterworks has a whole other business model. I'll be curious to follow this.
-
Now I have been watching reruns of Bonanza and Gunsmoke.
Still like them both!
-
I know they are not westerns but I do love
The Waltons, and Little House on the Prarie.
I think they have some great teacheable moments!

It's starting to thunderstorm here.
Sadie my dog, gets frightened!
-
I'm up - I can't seem to get to bed before two, so I got up at ten-fifteen, awakened by a telephonic call from our web host. Yesterday, despite the "extreme" setting for captcha, ten spam registrations got through - interestingly it's all from the same spambot, that's obvious from the addresses. So, we're trying one other thing - which is new registrants now not only have to do the captcha thing they have to answer three questions - those are easy if you're a human being actually reading them, but I'm not sure a spam bot will be able to get around them. If they do, then our next course of action is disabling registration and new registrations will have to type an e-mail and send to the admin who'll create the account for them. THAT is not possible to get around and will stop this nonsense once and for all.
-
How on earth could I forget The Lone Ranger, my top favorite growing up - never missed an episode. I also loved Have Gun, Will Travel. One of my school mates, Barry Glasser, who I went to grammar school with, his father worked on that show and I was given an actual Have Gun, Will Travel - Call Paladin business card.
-
It's starting to thunderstorm here.
Sadie my dog, gets frightened!
That's too bad, DR Kate. Our dog, also, gets fairly berserk about thunderstorms. We're supposed to have some severe ones this afternoon.
We bought a Thundershirt, which helps, but does not alleviate, the problem - at least, in our case.
-

I would also like an official Oh, Coward release.
-
I'd love a CD of the "Berlin to Broadway" cast album.
-
I'll be curious to follow this.
Max Preeo has this further detail:
The expanded soundtrack album -- with some new tracks taken directly from the film -- for A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC will be available in advance from the label's website, with the ArkivMusic release scheduled for September 10. *Both versions will be "Disc-onDemand" copies.*
-
So it is Arkiv - feh
-
You know, knowing it's disc on demand and knowing what these sell in that format, it's just shocking they won't license out like Capitol and let someone do these properly, as properly pressed CDs for the discerning collector. They'd make more on the licensing fee than they'll ever make doing these as CD-Rs.
-
I think I'll do the jog later today.
-
I'd love a CD of the "Berlin to Broadway" cast album.
I'll take it and Oh, Coward. And raise you a Cole and a One Mo' Time.
-
Wow, the betting is getting heavy. I'd love one of each of them.
-
As regards the notes about HELP! I saw it when it first came out with my then girlfriend and we both thought it total self-indulgent adolescent rubbish so I have no interest in ever seeing it again!
-
Wow, the betting is getting heavy. I'd love one of each of them.
I read this as "the petting is getting heavy."
I don't know where my mind is, today.

The sky has darkened and it's about to rain here. It is ungodly(ly) muggy, so perhaps that will help to lower the humidity.
On the other hand, it's supposed to rain on and off all evening, which would cancel tonight's show. I just hope that if it's cancelled, it's done so before I shlep the keyboard, etc., out to the "tent" and set up.

You are sooo right :) Watching the re-runs recently I more than agree with my childhood self. He was very good and I don't know why he didn't work more in later years. Watching Clint Walker in re-runs, and on THE JACKY BENNY SHOW we are amazed he didn't end up a big movie star.

That was a very scary nature walk, DR MBarnum.

I find it interesting (again, speaking as one who doesn't know from Westerns) that High Noon is always touted as one of the prime examples, yet I don't think I've seen it mentioned by any DRs here today.
High Noon was a wonderful film, however, we are talking about tv westerns.

I believe it's about 100 degrees out - won't jog before four, maybe five, so it can hopefully cool off a bit by then.

Back from bacon and eggs and toast oh my. Picked up no damn packages and gave the motor car a well deserved and much needed bath. My timing was perfect - I was the only one there but as soon as they pulled my car into the actual wash part, suddenly there were about fifteen cars lined up.
-
Since adding the three questions to the captcha, not a registration in sight. If that continues to work, I may put the captcha back to medium hard, because I really don't know how anyone could figure it out, save for the spam bots who do nothing all day but find out how to get around these things. My hope with the three questions is that it will make their little spam bot heads explode like Scanners.

LOL, Sometimes I did enjoy the Stories!!
LOL Kate.
I too had a big crush on Michael Landon and on Lee Majors.
I was very excited to watch the first episode of Big Valley as one of my favorite actress's, Barbara Stanwyck of course, was starring in a western. From the 1st moment I loved the show. I liked all of the cast. Not only did I find Major's appealing I liked the name Heath. I might have considered it for one of our boy's name if it didn't rhyme with Keith.
Keith always reminded me of Lee Majors.

I wish I did. So many memorabilia things were lost in the year of our Lord 1966 in one of my quick moves from apartment to apartment early in my LACC days. I really wish I had some of that stuff back - 8mm home movies, lots of life ephemera.

DR Jane,
What other men characters did you have a crush on back in your youth?
-
DR Singdaw,
I know most dogs are very frightened of thunder and lightning.
Also my dog is afraid of bicycles, and when the garage door is operating.
-
I'll have to post a picture of Sadie.
She is the sweetest dog in the world.
We rescued her from a pound center for maternity dogs.

She is part beagle and Jack Russel Terrier. She mostly looks beagle.
My favorite type of dog.

I'll have to post a picture of Sadie.
I hope you will! :)

I love that old HMV logo. In fact, HMV are moving back into the original store where they started from in Oxford Street, London, where I used to send time browsing in the early '60s during my lunch hours when I first started work near Oxford Street.
Nice pic.

Spider webs can be a work of art and if you come across them try not to disturb as it might be feeding time for this insect, and you certainly don't want his food to escape.
Thanks for all the chuckles.
-
The sky has darkened and it's about to rain here.
Early, or no, cancellation vibes!!!

Cool. Do you still have the card?
The Lone Ranger was a good one.
I wish I did. So many memorabilia things were lost in the year of our Lord 1966 in one of my quick moves from apartment to apartment early in my LACC days. I really wish I had some of that stuff back - 8mm home movies, lots of life ephemera.
Know the feeling from all the things that went missing during our various moves.
-
Thank you for picking up the nature walk where I left off, MBarnum.
-
I am home from Joshie's rehearsal. He's done a very nice job with THE CRADLE WILL ROCK, which will never be a score that I like.
-
DR Jane,
What other men characters did you have a crush on back in your youth?
Actors or characters. I had a major one on Bill Bixby in anything he did. He wasn't in a tv western series and I should stick to those.
I had a crush on Rowdy Yates on RAWHIDE but never never on Clint Eastwood.
I had so many crushes it is hard to remember them all. I will try.
Guy Williams-ZORROW
Robert Horton-WAGON TRAIN
Fess Parker-DAVY CROCKETT, not so much a crush as simply in love with him.
In the very cute category was Ty Hardin of BRONCO
Watching re-runs of THE RIFLEMAN I'm surprised I didn't have one on Johnny Crawford.
While not a crush, then and now Clint Walker was simply beautiful to watch.
My last major crush of a western tv actor was probably Pete Duel in ALIAS SMITH & JONES. I was rather devastated when he died. He should have been Byron in WINDS OF WAR.
While previously mentioned I must mention again, as it was such a huge one, my crush on Peter Brown. :)
-
DR Jane,
What other men characters did you have a crush on back in your youth?
Who did you have crushes on?

I'll have to post a picture of Sadie.
She is the sweetest dog in the world.
We rescued her from a pound center for maternity dogs.
Please do post a photo of Sadie.
What is a center for maternity dogs?
-
Thank you for picking up the nature walk where I left off, MBarnum.
Chuckle, chuckle. :)
-
Speaking of nature walks.....
I peaked at the Junco nest today and found two little eggs. I found this photo of a similiar nest on the internet. I think the green tint is more of a reflection from the bush as other photos showed the eggs white. Since ours too have the green tint I liked this pic.

DR BK ,
Did you see my last post about the review?
Just saw it. Thanks!
-
On the way out the door this morning, I saw my super. The annoying neighbor above me has been awfully quiet for the past month. Well, he's moved out! I hope the next tenant has a regular 8-5 job and likes to settle in between 10 and 11pm.

YES!!!!!
VIBES THE NEW NEIGHBOR IS QUIET AND HAS REGULAR HOURS!!!!
-
UPS just delivered my new Nook. I'm not sure how long it will take for me to get it up and running. I hope it will not require another 2 hour phone call.
-
Darn, I have to fully charge it first. I thought since it arrived at 40 something % it would work if I kept it plugged in. I'm up to 55% so I hope it won't take more than an hour. Less would be better. I do hope this is a quick set-up.
-
BK,
I'm hoping you used the three questions from Python's Holy Grail:
1. What is your name?
2. What is your quest?
3. What is the airspeed of an unladen swallow?
-
Now you're just one question short of a Passover Seder!
Or a few sandwiches short of a picnic.
-
Since adding the three questions to the captcha, not a registration in sight. If that continues to work, I may put the captcha back to medium hard, because I really don't know how anyone could figure it out, save for the spam bots who do nothing all day but find out how to get around these things. My hope with the three questions is that it will make their little spam bot heads explode like Scanners.
If a real person cannot do it then I would change it to medium hard. It is very frustrating to try to fill in the letters and have it constantly be wrong.

I'm curious what you have to do. Do you just switch your account to this new nook and everything appears or do you have to manually add all your books back on?
-
DR Jane,
Sadie was orginally from ohio and was due to have her babies. Pet Connections in Marilla, NY rescued her and other dogs that they were going to put down.
She had her puppies at Pet Connections in Marilla. Pet Connections takes in dogs that are pregnant.
Also Cats.

Good evening!
-
The review is up at amazon.com!

Hi DR brother Kevin!

I don't know yet. I am hoping what you said is all that is needed. First I have to register it, not that I'm sure how to do it, which can't be done until it is charged.
-

I've never seen a rescue group that specializes in pregnant animals. That is nice.
-
Hi DR Kate!
-
I'm at 80% charged.
-
Sadie is my favorite dog. Don't tell my nephew, niece and sister-in-law. They have nice dogs too, but not like Sadie!
-
I'll wait to see how we do with the questions thing - if I don't have any spam registrations for an entire day, then I'll reset the captcha.
-
Did the three-mile jog - so hot out and I sweated like a piglet.
-
DR Kevin,
Thanks so much.
Don't worry, your secret is safe with me. LOL!
-
DR Kevin,
But you didn't RAVE enough about how CUTE she is!!
-
Everyone should go read Kate's review - it's wonderful! Kate are you on Goodreads? If not, you should register there and cut and paste your review there, too.
-
Also finished the liner notes and those have been sent off for proofing.
-
DR BK,
No I'm not on Goodreads. I will join. Of Course you know who will have to help me out again!!
(AKA ADRIANA)
-
Thanks BK,
I really enjoyed the book. I will have to read the others!!

Once you register on Goodreads it's simple - just search me or the book title, give it however many stars you want and put in your review - it won't require your brother's help - it's easy/breezy there.

BK,
Maybe in your next book I could be a new character(maybe Adriana"s eccentric aunt.)
-

I agree!
-
Thanks Kevin, I'm already your eccentric Sister so why not ? I would be thrilled!!!
-
BK,
Maybe in your next book I could be a new character(maybe Adriana"s eccentric aunt.)
One never knows!
-
DR Jennifer and DR Ron Pulliam, I am also on board the BIG BROTHER train and watched the first episode last night.
I don't have any favorites yet, nor anyone I detest, so far...although the blonde gal from Staten Island is a good prospect for the latter.
There certainly are a few that I will enjoy watching, if you get my drift.
And I want to like Howard, but he seems to be a 'bible thumper' and that is gonna probably annoy the heck out of me. Depends on if he is one of those who thinks God wants him to win Big Brother. And for someone who portrays himself as such a good, Christian man, he kinda seems to be a horndog the way he was salivating over the girls. But, maybe in his bible that is ok. Who knows.
And it will be most interesting to see if Rachel Reilly's sister is as annoying as Rachel Reilly was.
-
Thanks BK, That would be awesome!!
I will go on goodreads and see if I can do it!
-
Hi DR brother Kevin!
LOL! I like that!
-
BK, I'll try to do it tomorrow!
-
Sadie is my favorite dog. Don't tell my nephew, niece and sister-in-law. They have nice dogs too, but not like Sadie!
Have you or DR Kate read any of David Rosenfelt's books? He write mysteries about a lawyer and his dog. The author is a true dog lover (has about 25 rescues living with him) and the lawyer in the books says the same thing about his dog. I suggest you read the first book in the series titled "Open and Shut".
-
I have not been to the gym in almost 2 weeks.
And, my heart rate is too high. Probably from talking about all of these cowboys.

Kevin, How is Robin doing? Still on Cloud 9?
-

LOL. Are you feeling well enough now to return to the gym?
-
DR Jane,
Ok I will. I'm always interested in what other people are reading, especially Women.
-
Wow, Clint Walker, One Good Looking Man!!
-
DR Jane,
No, I never have.
I will check the library to see if they have it. Sounds like something I would like.
Thanks for the recommendation!
-
Getting back to good looking men,
Elvis is still on the top of my list!
-
Well I'll say goodnight to everyone!

-
I like this one better.
-
DR Kevin,
But you didn't RAVE enough about how CUTE she is!!
She's the cutest dog who ever lived.

Only because it is autographed to me. He looks far more handsome in DR MBarnum's photo.

I didn't care for the blonde girl from New York. Too annoying.
I love Rachel's sister. I will probably fast forward through last night's Big Brother After Dark. Haven't checked any spoilers yet so don't know what's happening.
-
Ty Hardin also sent me a photo.
-
DR Jane,
Ok I will. I'm always interested in what other people are reading, especially Women.
If you join you can add me too. Well you have to send a request. Or just tell us once you've signed up and we can send you one.

I am super excited. An author I really like just posted that her book that comes out in a couple of weeks is up on netgalley as read now (meaning you don't have to wait to be approved). Also a book I have been dying for (book 3 in a series) is up. Book 2 came out like 15 months ago. I have my fingers crossed that I get accepted for that one (it doesn't come out till nov).
-
Good luck DR Jennifer
-
James Garner may have received the most attention as Maverick. Jack Kelly was also talented and good looking.
-
Good luck DR Jennifer
Thanks. Sometimes they accept you the next day (or reject you). And sometimes it can take weeks.
-
Hopalong Cassidy only sent me a note on a white piece of paper.
-
From THE ADVENTURES OF JIM BOWIE, the delightful Paul Playdon who reversed my first name & middle name. I'm not sure why he even had my middle name to begin with-lol
-
Sadly lost is my post card from Davy Crockett and my autograph from Peter Brown the day he visited my elementary school. I did get to talk to him which was even better. :)
-
My, my...
Paraphrasing Babs (as Dolly) once again - The place is just crawling with handsome men! :)
(Mind you, I'm not complaining!)
-
LOL Singdaw :)

Well, seeing as we're so close...

Thanks! Got a long way to go and thanks to digital scales I have to lose some of it all over again, lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IntI62LWSJA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IntI62LWSJA) And now for something completely different. Can't decide what I think of it
-
Is it dear reader Sandra's birthday?
-
I am watching one of the weirdest movies ever made.
-
Sorry; I don't know from Westerns. ::)
It's okay. You're gay. You can say ANNIE GET YOUR GUN.

Disturbing news on the book store front, pulled from Yahoo Business::
"The last nationwide book retailer may be writing its final chapter. Barnes & Noble's latest quarterly results show a 7.4% drop in revenues and a $122 million loss for the fourth-quarter of its fiscal year. B&N's disastrous focus on making Nook e-Readers is weighing heavily on the chain's operations. A 17% drop in Nook revenues and stunning $475 million loss for the device division in 2013 are hobbling the company's ability to keep its stores afloat. B&N appears to be cannibalizing itself with branded tablets and cross-platform e-reader applications, which render the stores increasingly irrelevant."
-
Well, there you have it. Predicted many moons ago by the likes of me. Sad, sad, sad.
-
I saw the news about Barnes and Noble the other day. The problem is more that their readers are readers and don't do well if you want more.
I love the reader, am frustrated with the software.
-
I have set up most everything on my new Nook. I can't remember how to add a second email address. Otherwise it is definitely working better. Unfortunately the problem with my B & N wish list is still there. Books I have purchased won't go away.
-
Keith's popping corn and I think I shall have some.
'night
-
I gotta tell you.
-
But I won't.
-
I am home from Joshie's rehearsal. He's done a very nice job with THE CRADLE WILL ROCK, which will never be a score that I like.
I love that agitprop stuff. And this is such a good cast. Do you know if there's talk of a recording?
-
I was going to relax tonight and watch a movie without doing anything else. That never happened.
Came home to news that a former coworker, someone from the newspaper's research department who'd always helped us out, died today from cancer.
Then the phone has been going non-stop.
-
Sorry to hear that, DR John G.

Yikes! :o Our library bought 60, count 'em, 60 Nook e-readers to circulate to the public. That just started on June 3rd. I wonder how that'll affect our Nooks. :-\

-
Well, I must be off. I have to do a little shopping, then a little laundry at home. I'm working concessions tomorrow night and I need to have some clean clothes.
Until later.
-
We made it through about half of Act II before the warning sirens at the golf course (where these outdoor musicals are held) signaled the impending arrival of the thunderstorms. But all in all, not bad, because it was a small house anyway due to the weather, and all parties got just enough of what they needed to deem the night a success. Of course, with this weather pattern we're in, the same thing could happen both tomorrow and Saturday, our final two nights.
-
It was way more comfortable than it's been, due to the overcast and the breezes -- but oddly, though I didn't have to swat anything away from my person, the gnats (which hadn't been around the entire past week) were going crazy around the keyboards and stand lights. I had gnats smeared all over everything without even trying to swat or smash them. Just playing the music did it. I hope too many didn't get in between the keys.
-
Thanks, George and ChasSmith. I didn't mention that my friend was a she. Kelly worked for ages in San Antonio and this past year went to work for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, where two of my best friends work. They quickly found out they had a mutual friend in me. Bill and Laurie were the ones who alerted me to the news earlier.
It makes me wonder if Kelly knew something the whole time, and that was why she had moved to Atlanta, which is where her folks live.
-
Finished with my viewing early - so don't know what I'll do with the rest of the evening. I've been having a fun PM volley with Miss Amaryllis herself, Monique Vermont - trying to see if we can get her here for the August Kritzerland show, which is Meredith Willson and Gene de Paul.
-
Doesn't this seem like Friday? It really seems like Friday. Friday is what it seems like. I thought tomorrow was Saturday until I just realized it was Thursday.
-
Where the HELL is page ten?
-
I've got the air on, but it's too cold. So, I'll turn it off and in ten minutes it will be too hot - thus this day.
-
And what about food? I've had my bacon and eggs and a Skinny Cow cone - with the jog, all in, I'm only at 650 calories. So, I could do a Subway, I suppose, or something more fun, although what would be more fun is anyone's guess - the one thing it won't be is Gelson's.
-
May I play my cross hand piece?
-
Definitely feels like a Friday.
-
Amaryllis!
-
Are PALADIN and HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL, the same show or different?
-
Oh DR Ron Pulliam, but I do know from westerns!
Mike, have you ever seen YANCY DERRINGER, staring Jock Mahoney.
-
I find it interesting (again, speaking as one who doesn't know from Westerns) that High Noon is always touted as one of the prime examples, yet I don't think I've seen it mentioned by any DRs here today.
Probably because HIGH NOON was not a TB TV show.
-
Are PALADIN and HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL, the same show or different?
The same. Paladin was the character portrayed by Richard Boone -
-
T.O.D.
WAGON TRAIN (Terry Wilson and Denny Miller)
THE RIFLEMAN (Chuck Connors)
FIREFLY (Nathan Fillion)
-
Back from bacon and eggs and toast oh my. Picked up no damn packages and gave the motor car a well deserved and much needed bath. My timing was perfect - I was the only one there but as soon as they pulled my car into the actual wash part, suddenly there were about fifteen cars lined up.
You are a trendsetter.
-
Started watching "Django Unchained," but I have to get to bed. Love the cameos and the music, but this is one loooooooong movie. (I know, if I had paid attention to the previous comments, I would have known that before starting it. But sometimes, I just have to learn things on my own.)
-
Good night, all.
-
The last few days of postings have made me very nostalgic.
I miss the Westwood Village of the '70's....loved seeing a movie at the Bruin or the Fox, then going for a bite at the Moustache Cafe ( terrific chocolate souffles), Alice's Restaurant, Hamburger Hamlet, or some other great jernt in the vicinity. Such a shame that gang activity was not halted before it was too late. A tourist was shot and killed, and it was bye-bye Westwood Village.
-
Give me a single-screen theater any day.
I worked at The Silver when I was in college, a terrific little movie theater in Silver Spring, Md.
Goldie Hawn would come in and visit with her family...she was delightful.
I believe it is now known as The AFI Silver Theater and Cultural Center.
-
There are still a few single-screen theaters in Southern California, and I always support them...the Aero in Santa Monica and the Lido in Newport Beach are my favorites.
I also support small, independent bookstores....there are 2 in Malibu...Bank of Books, also in Ventura where I believe DR Sam lives...and Diesel Bookstore. Everyone is very helpful and friendly, the staff discusses books and authors, and they regularly hold book signings and events. Long may they reign.
-
I will never forget working in Westwood Village during the summer of 1977.
When I left work one August day, I noticed groups of people with tears in their eyes, hanging around the newspaper stand. Groucho Marx had passed away that day, and we all ended up going out for drinks, stories, and comfort.
-
I watched Bonanza, only because I had a HUGE crush on Michael Landon.
-
DR Sandra's birthday was yesterday, BK.
:)
-
After a very hot day here in SoCal, it has turned very foggy and cool enough to wear a jacket.
Vibes for comfortable temps for everyone.
-
Don't forget Old World in Westwood - and the Village and Bruin are still going strong and remain single screen theaters.
-
Where the HELL is page ten?
-
Should I or should I not do a second jog - it's a bit late to be thinking about it, but I just ate a foot-long Subway club and am feeling guilty even though calorie-wise it put me right at 1200.
-
Have really enjoyed the photos and the really cool matchbook covers.
Thanks to all who shared them.
-
If I were to leave right now I'd be back before ten-thirty, but then I'd have to begin writing the notes at eleven - but what else am I going to do between now and then. Nothing, that's what. And if I do nothing I have the danger of going to eBay and finding stuff I want.
-
Old World Restaurant--yes! My very first veggie burger was consumed there.
I also have memories of running into Regis Philbin, all of the time in Westwood. He hosted a local show, A.M. Los Angeles, and would do ridiculous stunts in the village on weekends, long before he became a well known celebrity.
Also, those Hare Krishna gatherings every weekend.....it was an amazing time.
-
To jog, or not to jog.
That is the question.
-
Shall depart with the final question of the evening:
Why can't the English teach their children how to speak?
'night, all.
-
DR Kevin,
Thanks so much.
Don't worry, your secret is safe with me. LOL!
Not with me. I have already e-mailed the nephew, the niece, and the sister in law.
-
I decided it would be rather idiotic to jog this late and get all sweaty.
-

Is BIG BROTHER the show that is going to be on TV three times a week, or is that AMAZING RACE? I don't watch either one, but I thought I read that in TV Guide.
-
I'm listening to a bootleg audio recording of Meredith Willson's 1491 - I have to say the audience seems to be loving it. Some of the songs are very pleasing and we'll do at least one of them in our August Willson/Gene de Paul evening.

Only because it is autographed to me. He looks far more handsome in DR MBarnum's photo.
He looks several years older in your photo, but I like that it is signed to you.

Romantic Dance...

Can't you find two men dancing?
-
Thanks, George and ChasSmith.
I am very sorry to read your news, John. Prayers for you and for all who knew her.

Where for art thou page ten?
-
There you art.

1491 is a whole lot of book scenes - you can just feel the audience going away every time there's a ten to fifteen minute scene with no music.
-
Which is what happens when the book writer becomes the director having no directing experience at all. Go know.
-
Are PALADIN and HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL, the same show or different?
The same. Paladin was the character portrayed by Richard Boone -
I know, I used to watch it, but DR CP called the show PALADIN.

T.O.D.
WAGON TRAIN (Terry Wilson and Denny Miller)
THE RIFLEMAN (Chuck Connors)
FIREFLY (Nathan Fillion)
I keep forgetting to ask Chuck if he is still in touch with Denny Miller.

If I were to leave right now I'd be back before ten-thirty, but then I'd have to begin writing the notes at eleven - but what else am I going to do between now and then. Nothing, that's what. And if I do nothing I have the danger of going to eBay and finding stuff I want.
BK, I wish you wouldn't go jogging this late in the evening. The world is not the way it was in the 50's.

1491, as in the year before Columbus discovered America?

Well, I believe me work here is done.
G'night!
-
One's work here is never done. We are busy little beavers.

Home from rehearsal. Glad I can still play the piano, sometimes I wonder. Into the Woods came back quickly. Listening to Mantovani and his Orchestra play Tangos. A favorite of my grandfathers - as I prepare for my road trip tomorrow.
-
Well, DR Matthew, if you can play Sondheim, you are a great pianist, IMHO.
Into The Woods ain't easy, especially "Your Fault"!
-
I was so lucky to have been able to see the original Broadway cast of "Into The Woods".....it remains one of my favorite experiences in the theater. Simply superb.
-
Still in a nostalgic mood....do any of you L.A. people remember a restaurant by the name of "The Great American Food and Beverage Company"? I worked at the Santa Monica branch as a singing hostess...great fun!

Once you learn "Your Fault" it kind of all comes back quickly. I was sort of proud of myself that I played that piece well this eve. Everything else was cake :)

And what about food? I've had my bacon and eggs and a Skinny Cow cone - with the jog, all in, I'm only at 650 calories. So, I could do a Subway, I suppose, or something more fun, although what would be more fun is anyone's guess - the one thing it won't be is Gelson's.
I went to Subway for lunch, today. They have (at least, the Tumwater Subway has) egg salad! They've never had that before. I had it on a flatbread and it was delish, although a lot of it squished out as I ate it, so it was a bit messy...and they didn't give me enough napkins. I will definitely have it again, but not on the flatbread.
