Well, you've read the notes, the notes cut that out, and now it is time for you to post until the cut out cows come home.

Last night, I ushered for and got to watch the final performance of Harlequin Productions' Live Arena Tour (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009DHOZ5M/)-based production of "Jesus Christ Superstar."  The show was very well done and SO much better after a month and a half of performances.  The house was almost full and everything that was iffy for the (free) preview performance that I saw was very solid.  Everyone sounded great and there were no technical problems at all.  A great time was had by all!

Had a lovely visit yesterday at Rob and Mary Linda's new apartment, which is only about half an hour from us (yes, DR Jane, we're very lucky!).  They were getting ready to paint the living/dining room and I put shelf liner in as many kitchen cupboards as I could until we ran out of material.  ML is going to buy more and I'll finish on Wednesday while Rob uses my hatchback to transport some boxes.

Good morning, all! I slept late. After the alarm rang, I debated getting up and going to Toyland or sleeping in, and I slept for another hour. I will type up all of my NYPL notes so far on GOWNS BY ROBERTA, and tidy the apartment.

Good morning, all.

Exhausted from yesterday, I slept like a rock.

Like a rock, I tell you.

Rock-a-hula baby.

Two annoying/repeating dreams took hold near the end, disturbing the peace, but the sleep had done me good and I'm happy to be up and drinking

Coffee!!!

VIBES for a most excellent show tonight!

This, again, is one that's killing me.  I would love everything about it.  I would especially love hearing the rendition of "I Ain't Down Yet".  Please, Mr. BK, sir, if anyone captures that one on video, or even bad video but audible audio ....... pleeeeeease?

And I totally love LI'L ABNER, and that was a fine rendition of "I'm Past My Prime".

I wonder who decides the print size? It is the author? The editor? The publisher?  I am assuming that this author did not choose this. But I wonder if she could have said something.

Or maybe most authors don't even think about this.

There are only a handful of books where i find the print uncomfortable. The other is a series where the first printing is in a large paperback vs hardcover.  I think this is the first hardcover where I have almost not even wanted to read it just by looking at the layout.

Title: Re: NOW CUT THAT OUT
Post by: ChasSmith on August 04, 2013, 06:57:30 AM
August 1965:  ABNER was my first show to be involved in, and it was a thrill doing my first rehearsal-piano-ing and pit-playing.  I'd already played our original cast album to death and bought the vocal score and played that to death, so at that tender age I was proud to be ready to hit the ground running.  To this day, I can hear any selection from this show and the magic is always there.

A film producer/director acquaintance of E&T DR Julie and mine just posted on Facebook a dialogue written by a "four year-old writer" for his creations to do in a Superman scenario. If I, at four years of age, had written something with so many f-bombs, I would have had my mouth washed out with soap and would most likely still be confined to my room!

I need to go back to school.  I was working on the slide show for the lobby for THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, and I had 25 slides and 24 transitions....20 seconds total for each slide/transition combo.....and for some reason I thought that added up to 17 minutes of music....so when I looked at it, the last slide ran for about 10 minutes....

Had to go back and take some - or rather - a LOT of the music out....

When Ricky and Lucy showed slides of Little Ricky, the slides went on so long that Fred and Ethel walked out.  So on that basis, if  no one walked out, it's likely nothing to worry about.

Sorry to have been scarce yesterday, but it was a travel day. We are now vacationing at the beach in sunny south New Jersey - and it is glorious. I'll try to post photos later in the week. This is a delightful and much-needed respite, plus a chance to spend time with family. A summer tradition for almost 40 years now.

David Jacobs is retiring (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-23407506)

Been a crazy couple of days and I haven't had a moment to catch up with yesterday's posts. Among the many stops was a visit to one of the Half-Price Books in town. I don't understand their pricing at all. They had a fairly pristine copy of Robert Kimball's Cole for $2, a new copy of Michael Feinstein's book about the Gershwins with CD for $10 and Ethan Morddan's book about operetta for $15. ?????

But I also found a CD of Strouse and Adams singing their score for All-American at a backers audition.

And a few other treasures I hope I can make the time to read.

I'm up, I'm up - this happens every time we do a show - I cannot fall asleep the night before and thus it was last night - I think I finally fell asleep a little after four and slept straight through to eleven so maybe that's six and a half hours tops - not enough, but hopefully I'll be fine by show time both vocally and in terms of being peppy.

I'll bet you made a similar mistake to one or two I've made, or nearly made, when it comes to the confusing nomenclature of I-95, I-295, and whatever-other-95s there are in the Wilmington-Philadelphia-S. Jersey area.  It's insane.

From DR FJL:
Quote
That was nice of you, Jane, to let her have that lane.

Thank you.  I admit I might not have been as generous if the pool had been more crowded.  I knew she needed to keep stopping to check on her dog, and I know how much easier it is to swim in the single lane without people crowding you.  She told me up until a year ago she didn't know how to swim and took lessons.  I think it is great when an adult learns how to swim.  You don't see that very often.

And they are lucky to have you close by to help them :)

 :o ::)

I'm sure I didn't even know the word when I was four.

So on that basis, if  no one walked out, it's likely nothing to worry about.

;D

Sorry to have been scarce yesterday, but it was a travel day. We are now vacationing at the beach in sunny south New Jersey - and it is glorious. I'll try to post photos later in the week. This is a delightful and much-needed respite, plus a chance to spend time with family. A summer tradition for almost 40 years now.

It sounds nice.

Nice pictures, DR Doug R!  Was it a good trip?

Yes I liked Bucharest DR ChasSmith. The Romanian people are extremely friendly and polite people.

I truly think you and I went to two different countries, and we were traveling with a Romanian.  The people in the business of customer service, hotels & restaurants & shops, were very friendly.  Almost everyone else was horrible.  I had people on the streets glare at me.  By the end of our time there I was walking down the streets looking at my feet.

We did travel to some lovely towns & saw some pretty scenery.  Best of all was spending time with Craig.  It was hard leaving him again.

That is more sleep than I got last night, or most nights.

They don't remove, they bludgeon them to death.  My friend Nancy Janes started Romanian Animal Rescue and has worked hard with caring people in Romania, with donations from around the world, to help spay & neuter the strays & educate the people.  She has made an amazing difference in the situation there.

A week ago I mentioned that the French TV channel TV5, which is available in the UK, showed THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG. Today they showed Jacques Demy's later follow-up all-singing film UNE CHAMBRE EN VILLE which I'd never seen before. The film was poorly received and wasn't widely distributed but what a great shame because, having just seen it, I thought it was really superb. Like, UMBRELLAS, it features an all-consuming love affair but is set against a workers' industrial dispute and is wholly more dramatic as well as a more operatic film and also a much bolder one. The beautiful Dominique Sanda (sung by Florence Davis) gives a particularly good performance. Next Sunday the channel is showing Demy's LES DEMOISELLES DE ROCHEFORT which I've never seen either.

I didn't help set it up.  I have only donated money.  I found this wonderful woman after we returned home from our trip there & searched for animal rescue groups in Romania.  I was amazed to find this woman from California who set up the rescue group after hiking in the Romanian mountains.

I've been trying to catch up on things. After two months of having to stay off my feet I am very behind!

Last week saw Car Day #2. I wasn't impressed with the gaslight-style of automotive repair that I experienced on Car Day #1 and chose a different repair shop for Car Day #2. They diagnosed the rattle that was getting worse and had me worried. I authorized the repair and VIOLA! no more rattle! Repair shop #1 hadn't even spotted that problem. There's another problem, one that will cost me about 700 bucks, but I do like this shop and may go ahead with it. Car problems are sooo annoying! It's so difficult to know whom to trust. At least I can judge the quality of the customer service, and if that is good it's a big plus.

they are excellent vacation pants - lots of zipper pockets and all cotton so very comfortable - I wish they had them in my size!

I have never had a problem with print size on a kindle book.  Plus like others have said you can adjust the print size. Although I have never had to. The book I am reading now with The small print is a hardcover. It is over 440 pages. I guess with regular print it would have been 500-600 pages. But that really should not be the readers problem. This is a very established author.

They are much, much bigger than the creatures I encountered there. I believe my time spent at NASA was my first trip to Florida and I couldn't believe how the bugs would sparm around the parking lot. I didn't know if they were like wasps or just harmless. Ugh! But this was six months before the first shuttle launch and it was a very exciting time to be there. We were designing a large automated financial system, modeled after theirs.

I have had pants with loads of zippers for traveling and like them.  They can be a hassle these days going through security at the airport but I still wear them.

I just read that region 2 DVDs can be played on a computer. It's the first I've heard of that. I thought they could ONLY be played on a multi-region player for those of us in the US or Canada. DR Doug, of course, can play them. Is this true? Has anyone tried it?

Off to dinner with Lidia Bastianich. Too bad I'm still not on my best as far as food goes. I'll probably be done after the first course.

Don't overeat and get sick.  Maybe only eat a little of each course.

Giada de Laurentiis says, "After 3 bites, you know what it tastes like."

And a Jewish mother would say "It ain;t over until the plate is clean."

LOL!

Thanks all for the comments on the articles.  Yes, I'm not the only lawyer in the family.  I'm sure that the defense wasn't mentioned because the interview was done when I was deciding to give up criminal and because I don't do criminal cases in my home town, but I do handle immigration for people from there.

It was funny.  They didn't know when the article was being published...or at least Dad didn't remember if he knew at one time.  So I was walking down the street and there in the newspaper machine was a photo of Dad and David looking out at me.   It was the last paper, so we had to find another machine to get a copy for my sister and then I think we got another extra one.  It was a fun coincidence that it was published the day the whole family was in town

A computer DVD is set up to play either region 1 or 2 discs. If the wrong region disc is inserted a notice will pop up on the computer screen asking if you wish to change the region setting. You can change the region but it only allows you to change the region a few times after which the drive will be permanently set for that region.

However there are software programs which will enable a computer to play any region.  I use AnyDVD which works perfectly.

I hadn't realised when I wrote that, that the soundtrack of UNE CHAMBRE EN VILLE was one of the earliest Kritzerland releases.

Back from a wonderful show - everyone was great and almost no lyric fumfers - literally just a couple in one song, and I kind of got tripped up on one lyric in Ya Got Trouble - really minor, though and I don't think anyone noticed much - just went to the wrong word but got right back on track.

I didn't know about AnyDVD.  My computer can change five times.  It's set to 1, but if I change it to 2, then 1, then 2 then 1 then 2, then it's stuck on 2 forever.  I think I'd have to reinstall the operating system to reset the player back to 1.
