A Very Happy Birthday to Former DR SwishySarah!!
-
Well, last night was the opening night of the Pellegrino's Italian Kitchen (http://www.pellegrinositaliankitchen.com/) dinner theater production of "Hollywood Who Done It"! We had a great opening night! The audience enjoyed it and the food was actually pretty good (we got fed, too...for free...WITH dessert)! :D I didn't mess up any lines and I made my scene and costume changes without trouble. Overall, a good time was had by all.
-
After the show, people stuck around and drank and danced and had a good time. ALSO after the show, our director said that he'd been approached by the owners of the restaurant who said that it's been selling so well that they wanted to know if we could add a matinee on the third Sunday, when we were supposed to close the night before. So, we'll get an official e-mail probably tomorrow asking if everyone is available. I'm available! ;D
-
Another thing that was really cool was that the bartender, who will work the pre-show and intermission for the whole run created drinks for all the characters! I actually had TWO drinks named after my characters...the Kershaw Cosmo and the Maxwell Mudslide. However, my acting partner, Guy, didn't have any drink named for his characters, so I suggested to the bartender that she change "Maxwell Mudslide" to "Matthews Mudslide," to be fair. She said she tried to make sure that everyone had a drink and would change the menu for the rest of the run. She just has to make the change on her computer and reprint the menu. Easy as pie! I had the soon-to-be-named Matthews Mudslide and it was good. I thought that it needed a little more chocolate and less alcohol, but that's just me. ;)

RE: MY WAY
I agree.
There are a couple of other popular songs that I prefer the original French Lyrics.
I feel that the English lyrics subvert the original meanings. I don't know if its the lyric choice to fit the notes or just a bad choice of words.
I Dreamed a Dream (J'Avais Ręvé d'Une Autre Vie---- Had I Dreamed of Another Life)
I Will Wait For You (Je vais attendre pour vous)

Peter Lemongello (born February 11, 1947) is an American singer from Jersey City, New Jersey and North Babylon, New York, best known for his double album Love '76, the first albums to be sold exclusively through television advertising. After spending years as a cabaret career, with several appearances on national TV (including 25 times on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson), Lemongello hit upon the idea of creating an album to be sold exclusively on TV.
Peter Lemongello is the first person to sell over a million records through a television direct marketing campaign,[2] and was also the first entertainer to underwrite a television direct advertising campaign selling shares in the project to private investors.[3]
Using a city-by-city marketing strategy, he and his partners began their Love ‘76 advertising campaign with an around the dial TV Blitz in the New York Market, January 1, 1976 targeting all six New York metropolitan channels 70 to 100 times a week. Sales of the double album skyrocketed him to fame, and the campaign entered Los Angeles and Las Vegas[4] and the album began to sell in the millions, attracting widespread media attention.
The artist attracted the attention of Private Stock Records, who signed Lemongello in April 1976. By choice, Lemongello ended his self promotional efforts and released his second album,"Do I Love You",in early 1977. Shortly after its release, Private Stock Records went out of business. Lemongello concentrated on live performances, appearing at Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

Just to name a few. Those are the ones that, as I recall from however many years ago, were not only great movies but were extremely faithful to the books. There must be many more, but it's early and my brain isn't up yet. There are also many great adaptations of novels that are NOT so faithful, which is also good since a movie and a book are two different animals. I love and admire many of both stripes, and my real list would be a long one indeed.

North Babylon is the town next to mine- and when he did his advertising blitz it was before cable came into vogue so everybody was watching the same few channels, 2,4,5,7,9,11 and 13 were all there was- everyone around these parts had heard of Peter Lemongello

Good morning, all! Thanks for all the good wishes of the past week. This affliction is getting old real fast. I wasn't sure that I'd get out of bed today. Congrats on DR George's opening night. It's quite an honor to have a drink named after you, even if it is you character in a play.
I've only been to dinner theatre once and it was to see "The Sound of Music" at I believe it is/was (dunno if it's still there 13 years on) the Starlight Dinner Theatre somewhere in Orange Country. I was taken there, so I don't know any of the details. It certainly is a different experience. Always 3 acts (so I'm told) and dessert is served at the second intermission. I thought the experience was great. I'm sad that this tradition of theatre is close to extinct.

For the TOD for recent movies.
It is absolutely crazy how many recent books are being made into movies.
I guess after Twilight's popularity people decided to make a lot of YA books into movies.
I really liked the Twilight books, but remember not liking the first movie. But to me each movie got better. And I really enjoyed the last 3.
Then there was the Hunger Games. Loved the books so much. The first movie was pretty good.
My biggest worry is that the movies won't follow the books. I don't mind a few things left out or a few interesting twists added. There was a great one in the final Breaking Dawn movie. And a great one in The Hunger Games. I am definitely looking forward to seeing Catching Fire (Hunger Games 2).
This year i saw one movie that was so different from the book it was scary: Beautiful Creatures.
The ones I am most looking forward to: Divergent. Love the books a lot. And the trailer for the movie looks amazing.
I am waiting for The Host from my library. Loved the book. So really hoping that the movie will be good.
Another I am so looking forward to is Vampire Academy. Love these books. But the trailer did not look like what I was expecting. I still have my fingers crossed.
If I am planning to read the book then I will always do it before I see the movie. But there are a few movies that were based on books that I only saw the movie: Silver Linings Playbook, Safe Haven, Life of Pi, The Perks of being a Wildflower. I enjoyed all as movies.

MEGA RELIEF VIBES TO LARRY!!
My own pain is greatly ameliorated by a visit with the osteopath. Nothing an MD has ever done for me has ever come close. Unfortunately, most MDs have little or no understanding of osteopathy and therefore don't refer many patients to them. For some of us, it's simply a necessity.

I never met her, DR Chas, but she was a music major who would sometimes post about various concerts she had attended. I believe her name came from a HHW get-together when her pants (shorts?) made a funny noise. Can Jane or Laura or another DR confirm my recollection?
-
DR Jeanne I'm glad you have found relief with osteopath's.
-
Re: the comment BK made in the Notes about how some actors don't look right in their period costumes. i watch a lot of period drama and have often noticed that even in what I presume to be period-appropriate costumes some actors simply look very "today." When I look at photos from the period people simply had a different look. Have people changed? Or do costumers/directors not want a completely authentic look? Is it desired, but difficult to achieve? I don't know the answer.
-
DR Jeanne I'm glad you have found relief with osteopath's.
Thank you. I was talking to a doc just the other day about educating doctors on "when to refer" guidelines. She was an osteopath and heartily agreed!
-
Swishy was just a high school student when she began posting. We had a few of those, including DR Sandra, who don't visit much anymore.
I recall a discussion on what we were currently wearing. I left for awhile and when I returned Sarah had become Swishy Sarah-lol. Yes, it had something to do with the sound her pants were making. Maybe DR George can find the actual post.
-
Thank you, Jane.

TTFN.

Our company is stuck in traffic and will be three hours late :(
They said they were fine with the ride and that 4 year old Eli (Bruce you remember Eleanor) is content listening to the sound track of "The Sound of Music".
-
Eli has good taste!
-
We are watching BETWEEN THE FOLDS, a documentary about origami.

Good morning, all,
Just popping in to wish you all a wonderful holiday weekend. For me, I'm in two days of endless tech...so, no rest for the wicked.
BK, I want to wish you a wonderful run-through today for your anniversary show (assuming you are keeping to your usual schedule). No doubt it will be something truly special and I hate that I can't even see it. Much success and joy with it all!
From all you have said about the last week or so, you must be a very very very (that is three verys) wicked soul.
-
Back from being coifed by Teddy - he was very gabby today so I heard all about his dinner last night with Raquel Welch and his upcoming dinner and disco evening tonight with Jackie Collins.
He loves the night life,
He loves to boogie..........
-
I have missed so much!
For example, I missed DR George's big opening.
That sounds rude!
-
Eli has good taste!
Yes she does.
-
I've been told that the term TWERKING has been around for 18 years!! REALLY??
(I know I'm not exactly with it, contemporary, and all that, but still!) Had anyone here heard of twerking before last week?
About a year for me, Auntie Jeanne!
-
Yesterday I finished reading THIS SIDE OF PARADISE and all I can say is that I liked it better than THE GREAT GATSBY which isn't saying much. At least reading TGG I felt Gatsby loved Daisy. I'm a Redford fan, however, in the film I could tell he didn't think much of Mia Farrow.
-
Thanks, DR Jeanne! :)
-
I don't know from twerking.
Or planking, for that matter.
I'm not very with it.

Our company is stuck in traffic and will be three hours late :(
I guess it's a good thing you weren't planning to serve a souffle, then.
-
Enjoyed the Vixmom and Vixter pic.
Was there something in particular that prompted this? Or just the need for a bit of theatre?
One of the trainer's at Vixters restaurant was going back to her own state after having been there for the past 2 months -- she told Vixter she hoped her last night would be memorable so the Vixter (who was off last night) decided to make sure it was - she got a big kick out of it and every member of staff found a reason they had to walk past our table and stop to say hello
-
Vixmom, you've got mail!
you do as well

Elmore OI am so sorry - have you been to a chiropracter?

I stopped by church this afternoon to hang up some announcements about the flu shot clinic we are holding in two weeks and notice that someone had had a party and lost 4 helium balloons in the ceiling of our social hall this room is also a basketball gym with high ceilings and fans to keep it cool -- the ceiling is much to o high to reach with a ladder and the balloons are a danger to our ceiling fans as they get caught in the blades and burn out the motors --
-
I came home and told Vixdad the problem andhe packed up his handy dandy plastic beebee thomas machine gun and we headed out to church to bag us some balloons
-
We were successful to the great amusement and releif of our new associate Pastor
-
Happy Birthday to Swishy Sarah wherever she may be now
-
Get well vibes for DR Elmore. Back pain is the worst ever.
-
Happy Birthday, Swishy-Sarah. Yeah...
-
I'm off to Hooters for dinner. I going with a friend of mine - both of us have no business being there if you know what I mean, but I figured it's something to do once in your life. Who knows, it might be fun.
-
Had a wonderful stumble-through - only a few minor lyric flubs, but everyone did great. After, I had a few notes and we ran a few things and then I had dinner at the Studio Cafe - chopped Eyetalian salad and two drumettes.
-
I'll jog in about twenty minutes.
-
Happy Saturday, all. Will have to catch up later, but wanted to share the following with TCB: It's the whole Xanadu with Chayenne Jackson.

Made it to Midland-Odessa today, which is way west from my house. Two of the barbecue joints I wanted to visit were closed today. I'm not coming back here.
-
I did manage to get to five barbecue joints. A few were very good. A couple won't make the book. But the people have been uniformly wonderful.
-
Pain-free vibes for Elmore.

There was apparently a BBQ competition about 250 miles away.

We had a very good show tonight. A couple of people in the audience had just a little too much and were commenting on the goings-on, but for the most part, it all went well. We partied in the room after the show and had a great time. Tomorrow is our first matinee, then we have a few days off! :)
