And the word of the day is: MONAD!

Totally agree with this. Wonderful insight.

ask bk
Is the And The World Goes Round going to be a studio recording or a live recording of the concert?

How goes the search for the ladies for the show?

It's early. Early on a Wednesday. Now you know everything I know.

I have an ASK DR BEN question.
Since you do reviews for the BBC do you get press tickets to do the reviews?
-
FROM MONDAY
DR Mike Barnum
Would you have had a crush on "Race" Bannon if you knew that he and Dr. Quest were a couple?
-
:)
Good morning.
Good morning.

Wild house. Very 60's. East meets West I guess. 8)

MEGA VIBES.

Another ASK BK
Do you prefer "Ketchup" or "Catsup"?

FROM SUNDAY
DR. SINGDAW is nice to see a contemporary photo of you. I forgot what you looked like now! :-)

I've been thinking of writing a novel for the past 50 years but haven't got round to it yet ;D

I'm in your camp, Doug R.

Good morning, all.
Many vibes for all in need.
Loved the notes today BK on both the writing and on a Melville film I was not familiar with. Will have to keep an eye out for that movie.
-
DR KERRY - I think DR CILLA LIZ should immediately go to Des Moines and make an offer on that house!
-
Very entertaining notes today.
-
I have to buckle down today and prepare to teach my writing class this Saturday.
-
I put the music for VANYA in a file sharing folder and sent the director a link last week. Today he tells me he doesn't know how to download it, so he is not using it.
I told him I would bring him a disk two weeks ago, but he said....OH NO....we use everything on computer now....
I am seeing the show on Sunday, so I think I will take him a USB drive with the music on it....if I can find my little one.....
-
DR JANE I am thinking a mattress topper is the foam thing that I put on top of my mattress. I was told it increases the life of said mattress...although it does also make it more comfortable.
I guess MR BK should stop looking in windows and go into the store and ask the man what he is seeing....then we will know for sure!
-
ALLERGIES ARE ATTACKING IN FORCE TODAY.
-
We watched a nice movie on DVD the other night, UNFINISHED SONG with Terence Stamp and Vanessa Redgrave.
It's a weeper, but also life affirming.
-
I could swear there was a spell check feature just a few days ago. I think when you previewed on quick reply you had the option.

And the word of the day is: MONAD!
And The Song Of The Day Is: ONE

Two!

I've been thinking of writing a novel for the past 50 years but haven't got round to it yet ;D
I have written a play, Mr. Jaffee!
An average conductor's day, Mr. Jaffee.
It's all about life on a train.
I call it "Life… On A Train".
:)

-
DR BK,
I so excited that you will be writing your new book soon!
As you know, I have loved every book of yours so far.
Right now I am on Chapter VIIII of Kritzer Time.
I hope that your new book becomes a BEST SELLER AND SENSATIONAL MOVIE.
As far as the new book style is concerned, don't be afraid to venture into new territory.
You never know what wonderful things will happen!

FROM MONDAY
DR Mike Barnum
Would you have had a crush on "Race" Bannon if you knew that he and Dr. Quest were a couple?
Yes, and I would have been jealous, as well.
-
I hope that spell check doesn't stay gone for too long. I need it!

I know a number of you have read some of my December missives posted from my mom's computer in Johnston SC over the past years.
Among the colorful (at least, to me) people I've named in my posts is my Uncle Rock Bledsoe...a true character. He was born in (or near) Johnston SC some 80 years ago and there he remains.
Recently a TV crew from Augusta GA caught up with him at a Strom Thurmond High School (!) football game (this high school is "it" for Edgefield County SC, and Thurmond was born and raised and is the favorite son of Edgefield County).
My uncle's cachet for TV news (and they were there covering the game, I believe) is that he has been working the sidelines of the Thurmond football officiating crew for almost 46 years. As he indicates, he started in 1967 when his son (my cousin Butch) was quarterback of the team.
WJBF TV New Feature on my Uncle Rock (http://www.wjbf.com/story/23456671/long-time-strom-thurmond-fan-enters-46th-year-on-the-rebel-chain-crew)
P.S. Any resemblance my uncle has to Frank Sinatra is purely imaginary.
-
DR Singdaw, How are your moving plans going?
Thanks for asking, DR Kate!
I have a verbal estimate on the cost of moving our stuff... But that's about as far as it has gone at this point.
It is looking now like the move will happen sometime between now and Christmas.
I learned yesterday that I did NOT get an arts administration job that I had applied for - which I would have been perfect for - so that is disappointing. But I know that things will work out OK in the long run.
-
An wrestler/actor I am interviewing has just entered The Bigg Boss house.
Bigg Boss is India's version of the competition show Big Brother, except that the contestants are celebrities of one type or another, mostly Indian, but mixed with a few from either UK or USA or some other western country.
So we won't be finishing our interview until he either wins or gets evicted.
-
Fun story on Uncle Rock, DR RLP!
-
That was a lovely tribute/feature on your uncle, DR Ron Pulliam!
-
So we won't be finishing our interview until he either wins or gets evicted.
DR MBarnum, I read that as "either wins or gets excited." :P
-
Must catch up as soon as possible. Sounds like I've missed some major posts!
-
Good morning, all!
Once again I went to bed at 10:00, and because of the throbbing in my left fot didn't get to sleep until after 1am. I awoke at 10, sat in a tub of hot water for 30 minutes and now I am catching up.
Today would have been John McGlinn's 59th birthday. He was a person of enormous potential and too many personal demons. I am listening to his ANNIE GET YOUR GUN recording.
This afternoon, I will attempt to do my laundry. Wish me luck.
DR singdaw, I am sorry the job fell through; I hope and wish that it means you'll find something better.
BK, I look forward to more details on the book's progress.
-
Better things ahead DR SINGDAW.
BIGG BOSS - that is the title of my new estate.....
-
Nice story DR RLP. Thanks for the link.
-
Wednesday morning greetings! I was very tired when I got home from my nonprofit board leadership class last night. Slept in today, until the doggie alarm next door woke me up. Mom wants to go shopping this afternoon, so I'll be E & T for a while after lunch.
-
Continued job-hunting vibes for DR Singdaw!
-
Laundry vibes for DR Elmore!
-
Thank you DRs elmore3003, Jrand62, and Ginny! I am disappointed, but not dispirited. Onward and upward!
-
Happy birthday, Mr. McGlinn. RIP. And thanks for letting me enjoy Cole Porter's "Within the Quota" ballet, which will be my choice for tribute for today.
-
Thank you DRs elmore3003, Jrand62, and Ginny! I am disappointed, but not dispirited. Onward and upward!
Whenever God closes a window, he opens a door somewhere else.
-
I don't see any differences in "options" between "Reply" and "Quick Reply".
-
I shall listen to some McGlinn today. Brigadoon, I think.
-
Just one more post until..............
-
Page 3.
-
Off to shop with Mom - bye for now!
-
ask bk
Is the And The World Goes Round going to be a studio recording or a live recording of the concert?
and
How goes the search for the ladies for the show?
Studio recording. Offers are out to two women, both of whom were suggestions by Mr. Kander - frankly I'm not sure either will do it, but we'll see.
-
Another ASK BK
Do you prefer "Ketchup" or "Catsup"?
Ketchup, now and forever, like Cats.
-
Oh, and I'm up. Barely.
-
I went into the admin panel and spell check is enabled - I've never seen it - there is a note saying it doesn't work in all browsers.
-
And today in 1925, 88 years ago, DEAREST ENEMY opened at the Knickerbocker Theatre and remains young.
-
I'm ready to begin the laundry. This could be painful. We'll see.
-
You need to hire a personal assistant, DR Elmore.
-
Kevin, are you preparing for an enforced vacation on September 30th?
-
You need to hire a personal assistant, DR Elmore.
I really do! I stayed down at the laundromat while the clothes washed. They're now in the dryer for the next hour. What is killing me is navigating the stairs up to the front door and the stairs up to the lobby. I cannot put pressure on my left foot and, whenI do, the pain is unbearable. I worry about navigating the steps with a cane and a bundle of dry laundry. Goddam it.
-
You need a dumb waiter.
-
The problem is, if DR elmore3003 advertises for a P.A., he might get something totally unexpected. :)
-
Ouch (in reference to SingDAW).
-
My great grandparents lived in an suburb of Detroit where it was fashionable to have servants.
My mother always said that she wanted another house with a "magical" laundry chute; where you dropped your dirty clothes down the chute, and soon thereafter they arrived back in your room: laundered and pressed! :)
-
The problem is, if DR elmore3003 advertises for a P.A., he might get something totally unexpected. :)
I don't get it, but that's the story of my life!
-
I assume the P.A. to which Sing is referring is a "Prince Albert". That's a term for a certain piercing which is beyond unpleasant, in my humble opinion.
-
Happy Wandering Wednesday to all...
Okay, it's wandering day to me, as I wander back to La Jolla for the penultimate week of shows. Turns out we are not extending, which is a mixed blessing. One less week of filling in the holes of a Swiss cheese script, but at the same time one less paycheck.
The most important thing - I got my confirmation call from Mr. Sterling that I am confirmed for the new Kritzerland show on Oct. 7th! Can't wait!
Have a wonderful Hump Day!
-
This photo could be me at the present time!
I am back from the laundromat. It was easier than I thought, but I am wiped out now.
-

It's a round of self-mutilation I do not comprehend at all! Thanks for clarifying. Ugh.

From DR TCB:

Oh and his first CD opened at #1 in Britain
.
Thank you for this.

I guess it increases the life of the mattress by making it more comfortable so you don't have to buy a new one yet ;)
LOL

This morning Keith had a colonoscopy. Two hours later he is already working in the garden. I would be napping.
For the first time nothing needed a biopsy :D :)

WJBF TV New Feature on my Uncle Rock (http://www.wjbf.com/story/23456671/long-time-strom-thurmond-fan-enters-46th-year-on-the-rebel-chain-crew)

Do you have an accent like your uncle's?
-
I am off soon to sell tickets for the second week opening of HARVEY.
Second week performance vibes for DR ryacko.
-
Thank you DRs elmore3003, Jrand62, and Ginny! I am disappointed, but not dispirited. Onward and upward!
That's good.
VIBES YOU FIND A JOB EQUALLY PERFECT FOR YOU!!!!
-
My great grandparents lived in an suburb of Detroit where it was fashionable to have servants.
My mother always said that she wanted another house with a "magical" laundry chute; where you dropped your dirty clothes down the chute, and soon thereafter they arrived back in your room: laundered and pressed! :)
Our house had a cool laundry chute from the upstairs bathroom. It was so much fun Craig actually put his clothes in the "hamper" for the first time. To my relief Bryan wouldn't let Craig ride down the chute with his clothes. At that age one would expect the older brother to shove the kid down not tell him no ;)
-
It was easier than I thought,
I was hoping you would say this.
Have a restful afternoon.
-
Back from an interesting meeting. Finally got our guest star for the October show - the divine Terri White.
-
Congrats on Terri White. What's your theme?
-
Four!
-
I can't get HHW to work on my kindle today. I forget what i had to do when we changed boards. Was it DR George who had a suggestion.
I used the same link i did a few days ago and it says "not available". If i type in the link it says" website registered coming soon".
I would try what i did last time if i could remember. :(
-
No Prince Alberts for me.
I remember reading an interview with the lead singer of a rock group called Everclear. He was shocked that so many fans had tattooed the name of his group on their chests, arms, etc. "What if we're a one-hit wonder," he asked (and they were).
He also got after them for announcing that they had gotten a Prince Albert. There's nothing cool about having to sit down to urinate for the rest of your life, was his response. He was a lot wiser than you'd expect from a rock star.
-
Tonight is the finale of Big Brother. And the premiere of Survivor.
I would probably vote for Andy based on game play. But the way he's acted on BBAD and how he talks about the house guests has turned me off of him big time. I really dislike when someone says one thing to your face (and acts like your best friend) and then talks non-stop hatred when you leave the room. It seems like everyone with the feeds feels the same way.
-
Had a brief fit of pique this morning. Saw on half.com a book called "Barbecue Lovers' Guide to Texas" from my publisher that was due next year. It had a cover photo of ribs low over charcoal and another of Sloppy Joes. Neither of these is Texas style.
Thankfully, the publisher says it's just a placeholder and not at all the real cover.
-
I went into the admin panel and spell check is enabled - I've never seen it - there is a note saying it doesn't work in all browsers.
It was there for me in google chrome a few days ago.
Actually if you spell a word incorrectly it puts a red line under it. So I think that is what i was remembering as spell check. It does this for me on HHW in google chrome. So that is my spell check.
-
DR Jane re: the Hair Bean. It is a regular hair brush. Just the bristles are different. What I meant by the difference is that there is no handle. That is odd to me.
-
I woke up today with a very scratchy throat and low energy. Very odd because i was feeling 100% when i went to bed last night.
-
You need a dumb waiter.
Well, singdaw isn't going to be local very much longer.
Maybe Larry needs someone for just a few hours a week.
-

Gosh, no!

My new mattress will be delivered one week from today. It seems so far away!
-
Tonight is the finale of Big Brother.
This reminds me....
DR MBarnum my cousin in-law said that my cousin (aka the Voice of Big Brother) would not be able to take you, or anyone, onto the set to meet the people. I'm sorry but I did remember to ask.
-
My new mattress will be delivered one week from today. It seems so far away!
I hope you are very happy with it and your body feels better.

May you have many future romps on that mattress -- and rest when you need it, Elmore.

Keith had an errand to do and on the way home stopped at Redbox. We now a Blue-Ray to watch, WORLD WAR Z.
-
My "The Pleasure of His Company" arrived in today's mail.
Very happy about this!!!
-
Why thank you, DR Jane!

Back from a 2-stop shopping trip with Mom. I made a delicious chicken pie for our dinner and now I'm chillin' in my recliner.

Kevin, are you preparing for an enforced vacation on September 30th?
Well, Ben, as it turns out, I'm taking off from Oct. 1- Oct. 8th anyway. The question is: will I be paid for those days?

Terri White was great in Finnian's Rainbow!

Thanks. He's skittish.

He's chasing the queens around the yard.

Nice pic Laura.
I keep losing my internet connection so I'm going to take a break from the computer and read.

Dayton Metro Library Plans to Buy Hauer Music Building (http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/news/local/dayton-metro-libray-plants-to-buy-hauer-music-buil/nZ2DH/)
Of course, they'd probably rather not use the name we peons gave to the parking lot they're buying - The Dead Body Lot.

Beautiful butterfly, DR Laura!

Congratulations, DR Laura.

Thank you, DR Ron Pulliam! :)

bk, congratulations on securing a wonderful guest star!

Oh - FIVE, by the way. :)

Oh, yes! I love Terri She was a lot of fun on FINIAN'S RAINBOW, and she was so wonderful in BARNUM.
So, it's time for me to attempt some sleep. I've got physical therapy in the morning.

The Kritzerland show is Maltby and Shire.

Back from a three-mile jog.

Had a really fun and nice telephonic conversation with John Kander today.

I'm in your camp, Doug R.
I wish I knew how to write a screenplay. All my ideas for books peter out very quickly. I am not much for writing backstory; so with screenplays, having shallow characters would be pretty current.

But, but, I NEVER heard them ringing!
No, I never heard them at all!
Till there was you, my dear!

Goddam it.
I wish I could be there to help you. I would be such help, especially on the stairs.

I think DR CILLA LIZ should immediately go to Des Moines and make an offer on that house!

Great story!!

Job Hunting Vibes to DR Singdaw~~~~~~ you didn't get this one because there is something better out there.
-
Today, at the old actors lunch, I mentioned something about Audra McDonald would probably demand that she get "My Favorite Things" in the December SOM. They all looked at me as if I had three heads. None of them had heard about the TV production.
In the original, that song is sung by the Mother Abbess and Maria, so she wouldn't have to demand that. It's part of her role.

I love Sloppy Joes. I will even eat Manwich on occasion.

Yes,, I am remiss in congratulating BK on his new guest star - she was wonderful In Finian's Rainbow

My new mattress will be delivered one week from today. It seems so far away!
I think I will stop at Wally World tomorrow on my way home from the doctor and see what kind of mattress toppers they have.

Singdaw, I got laid off my last newspaper job a few years back and felt like something had been snuffed out in my life. I was at a very low ebb, probably because I define myself too much by my work. It took months before some venues opened to me. Some were lousy, but filled with good lessons. Others were mixed blessings. And there were a few outright wonders.
Throughout, there were great friends, including my HHW family, and a good deal of prayers that helped see me through.
When the time is right, it will happen for you. And until then, your family is here for you.

The sloppy joes here are made with leftover brisket all chopped up and marinated in a sweet sauce.

Beautiful!

Kevin, are you preparing for an enforced vacation on September 30th?
Well, Ben, as it turns out, I'm taking off from Oct. 1- Oct. 8th anyway. The question is: will I be paid for those days?
Where is Barbra performing?
-
Just finishing up "Hit the Ice" with Abbott and Costello. It's a pale ripoff of "Sun Valley Serenade," only without Sonja Henie, Glenn Miller, the Nicholas Brothers, Dorothy Dandridge, Milton Berle or the Harry Warren-Mack Gordon score. But otherwise, well ... There is no otherwise.

Some big news from my former employer:
Dayton Metro Library Plans to Buy Hauer Music Building (http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/news/local/dayton-metro-libray-plants-to-buy-hauer-music-buil/nZ2DH/)
Of course, they'd probably rather not use the name we peons gave to the parking lot they're buying - The Dead Body Lot.
Is that where Jimmy Hoffa is located?

Time for bed. Night, all.

You really must take a look at this house in Des Moines-- the Madonna inn meets Fu Manchu.

I must have this house
and I will open a Chinese restaurant in it
Or a brothel.
-
My great grandparents lived in an suburb of Detroit where it was fashionable to have servants.
My mother always said that she wanted another house with a "magical" laundry chute; where you dropped your dirty clothes down the chute, and soon thereafter they arrived back in your room: laundered and pressed! :)
I used to have one of those --- then I moved out of my parent's house
I drop off and pick up my laundry at a Laundromat near me.

Depending on which version they are doing. Hopefully they will follow the original Broadway production and not the revised Hallmark version.

When I was growing up, the lady next door (who was my second mother) used to make these really easy Sloppy Joes, where she would fry up hamburger, add an egg, and a can of Campbell's Vegetable soup. I added shredded cheddar cheese to the top and I would binge eat those. I should make some this weekend, I haven't had them in years.

Here they are called loose meat sandwiches. We have Made Rites, Taverns, Charley Boys, and....hmmm a few others. Some have a sauce like a sloppy joe others are just crumbled hamburger and onions.

I think there are a number of variations like that. I have a family recipe for Sloppy Joes that hold together more firmly than the liquidy variety like Manwich. When I dig it out I'll post it.
Tip o' the day: when making Manwich use WAY more meat than suggested on the can.
Another tip o' the day: Martin's Potato Sandwich Rolls. They're as yummiliciously wonderful for Sloppy Joes as they are for burgers.
-
Loose meat sandwiches! Not a familiar term, but I've heard it at some point. Love it!
I'd probably love every variation of them.
This is some serious binge comfort eating we're talkin' here.

I wonder if Vixmom's head is on her keyboard.
-
Decided to go to Jerry's because I just couldn't do Gelson's tonight. Since I'd only had a BLTA today (barely six hundred calories) I had some chicken tenders - you never know what you'll get, size-wise, but the five that arrived were quite small so not too bad and I was still hungry so I had a cup of their really good chicken corn chowder. I'm way too full now and feeling guilty, but even if I went a few hundred over my usual 1200 it shouldn't really matter since at this point in my diet it is suggested one splurge meal a week.
-
I wonder if Vixmom's head is on her keyboard.
I did just catch myself nodding off so good night all

Listening to what will probably be our beginning of December release - two CD set, three scores, all previously released, two of them OOP for over a decade and one OOP for three years. But none of that matters because in addition to the film music fans this will appeal to a much broader crowd, given the star of each of the films.

George, will you be auditioning for THE WEIR that your friend is directing at, I believe, Lakewood Playhouse?

BK, good luck with the new book, whichever one you choose to write!!

George, will you be auditioning for THE WEIR that your friend is directing at, I believe, Lakewood Playhouse?
Sadly, I won't be able to. I'm running the sound board for Olympia Family Theater's production of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" and it runs through all of October, when "The Weir" rehearses. My friend Pug is directing that!

Good luck on the move, Singdaw ;D but it's too bad on the the job. :(

Another ASK BK
Do you prefer "Ketchup" or "Catsup"?
Ketchup, now and forever, like Cats.
I vaguely remember reading something that said that "ketchup" and "catsup" are actually different from each other. I don't know what the differences are, though.

I can't get HHW to work on my kindle today. I forget what i had to do when we changed boards. Was it DR George who had a suggestion.
I used the same link i did a few days ago and it says "not available". If i type in the link it says" website registered coming soon".
I would try what i did last time if i could remember. :(
I'm sorry but I don't remember what I might've suggested. :-\

Congrats, DR ryacko!

Today, the employees of the entire library district for which I work (except for those who chose to take vacation) gathered together at St. Martin's University in Lacey and had our annual All Staff Training Day. We had speakers and sessions where we learned stuff. I went to a session on decluttering one's home or office (it was very useful information...we'll just see if I actually use it ::)) and a session with the author of "The Geography Club (http://www.amazon.com/dp/0060012234/)," Brent Hartinger. He was really good. He talked about writing his first book and it practically invented the genre of LGBT YA fiction. Individual books about LGBT kids had been published, but they were few and far in between. The success of his book (it was rejected by 38 publishers before it was finally published, even though it actually won an award for the best unpublished novel) showed the publishing world that there really IS an audience for these kinds of books.
-
He also talked about a lesbian couple that he and his partner know and they started the website AfterEllen.com, and then he and his partner started AfterElton.com, modeled after the lesbian site. They eventually sold them and were basically fired from the sites that they started because the owners wanted to go in another direction...meaning, not so much gay content. He said it was okay...they paid him "a shitload of money" (that's an actual quote from him). In the lobby after this session, Barnes and Noble had his books and the books of another author who had a session, which I didn't see. I bought the first four books of his Russell Middlebrook series. Russell is the main character of "The Geography Club". He autographed all four books for me! :D
-
I watched last night's and now am watching tonight's season finale episode of "America's Got Talent." These are some amazing acts and performers. I haven't gotten to the end of the show yet, so I don't know who won...yet.
-
At the All Staff Training Day, they recognized people who have been working at Timberland for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years! I have my 25 years in this year! Everyone who has worked for 25 years or more got either a crystal vase or a crystal bowl. Actually, all the women got vases and I got a bowl...I was the only man recognized for 25+ years, this year. They had a photo "booth" in the lobby and anyone could get their picture taken and have it printed right then. I had mine taken with my bowl. It seemed like everyone was required to wear a boa (they had a bunch there) in the picture, so I put a purple one in my bowl. Here's the picture:
My face was not really that red. It's a combination of the printed picture and me scanning it. I can't do much with that. Everyone who had their picture taken can also download it from the photographer's website starting tomorrow. I'll download the better version when I can.
-
Here's a kind of blurry close-up of the bowl at my house:

Here's the bowl by itself:
