Post by: bk on September 21, 2013, 01:09:21 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were beyond the valley of the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently beyond the valley of the cows.

I second Ron's comments on The Wizard of Oz.

We had a great time but Friendly's Restaurant on a Friday early evening is not the place to be for adults without children. It's "raucous" to say the least.

Now that I am here I will help in the basement so I won't be around much. We have to move things back to their original locations and move other things so Anthony can do the final painting and then tomorrow before I leave we have to move the stuff we will move today and get the basement back to snuff. Of course, much has been thrown out and there is much more room down there so it's a matter of rearranging as well. Things like figuring out where to put the treadmill so that it's by the computer monitor so we (I) can use it as a television and watch things on-line while I walk, walk, walk.

Then, later on Sunday I will go back to the city and return to work on Monday, unless I win Mega Millions ($145,000,000). Of course, even if I do win, I will go back to work for a few days to sort things out and then, buh-bye.

I knew mostly of Ms Barbra Streisand at first because of the many impersonations I saw people on TV doing of her.....people such as Sheila McCrea and another comedienne whose name I can't remember....

I bought a 45 rpm record of her singing for ten cents....and it was great....she sang "My Man" and the flip side was "Second Hand Rose" which I thought was one of the funniest songs EVER!

I wasn't interested in FUNNY GIRL....it came out at around the same time as STAR....and I thought who would be interested in Fanny Brice or Gertrude Lawrence and who were these old women....anyway?

Favorite Movies:

What's Up Doc?
The Owl and the Pussycat
Guilt Trip

Not a big Streisand fan...and that's not because her song, "Evergreen" beat out my client's tune, "A World That Never Was," for the Oscar.    :P

I do like FUNNY GIRL, and her renditions of "The Way We Were," "With One Look" and "You Don't Send Me Flowers".

Good morning, all! I was afraid I was gettng sick last night, but I believe I was wrong. I do need to call my HMO, though, and schedule a flu shot ASAP. I will try to make the appointment on Monday morning before therapy.

I did, though, create a few new horrifying leg pains that are truly abysmal. One wrong turn in bed and it's off for the pain killers. I will be so glad when/if this affliction goes.

So, for the good news!

DR Ginny, good news about your eye!

Now, I need to take a shower and call my friend Andy.  He wrote the book to the musical version of "The Wind in the Willows" for which I ran the sound board last year.  He and the other writers of the show created a Kickstarter project to record the show!  It's done and I want to pick it up in person so that they won't have to pay to mail it to me...and so that I can get it today!  I was able to download the complete recording (that was a lower level gift included with my pledge level to get the physical CD) and they included a couple of scenes that had to be cut for the live show. ;D

Tripod is just that a three legged dog.  He was so cute and so funny and so loving.  I don't know how he'd handle the many steps in my house and....well...I'm not going to adopt a dog.   Actually, the real reason I can't adopt another dog or cat is that at some point in the not too far off future, I'm likely  to have my parents' two cats added to my household.  Hopefully it won't be any time soon, but the cats are 3 years old and mom and dad are 85 and 86, so......

I am a big Streisand fan.

What's Up Doc?
The Owl and the Pussycat
On a Clear Day

So many songs to choose from.  Currently SKYLARK is one of my favorites.

My all time favorite song is from her 1967 " A Christmas Album".  "The Best Gift" was a sweet little song that suddenly became special to me the year Bryan was born 2 days before Christmas.
The best gift
That I ever got
Didn't really weigh a lot
It didn't have a ribbon 'round
And it sometimes made the terrible sound
The best of all it seems to me
It wasn't neath the christmas tree
And yet, I guess I'd have to say
That it made all the other presents twice as gay
The best gift that I've ever known
I'd always wanted most to own
Yet in my dreams of sugar and spice
I never thought it could be so nice
The best gift that I ever get
Was sometimes dry and sometimes wet
Was usually pink but oftentimes red
As it lay so innocently in it's bed
The best gift of the year to me
The one I hold most dear to me
A gift that simply drove me wild
Was a tiny new born child.

I'm pretty sure this song was written for her son. :)

Prior to that I'd been to the local mattress store.  I tried out many mattresses, every single one of which, including the cheapest, was much more comfy than my ten-year-old thing.  So, I bought a new mattress and box spring - I figure if one only has to do this every ten years it's damn good value for money.  Best of all, they deliver today, sometime between five and nine.  The sales guy was very helpful.  In the end I narrowed it down to two, then just kept switching back and forth and finally decided on the slightly firmer mattress - the other was great but I felt like I was sinking into the bed and I knew that would drive me a little crazy.  I got a Beautyrest, top of their line and I'm guessing I will sleep much better.

One funny thing - I thought my second choice was just a little too low and not nearly as high as my own current bed - the one I went with is higher.  When I got home I looked at my bed which isn't high at all compared to the new one.  I'd always thought it was so high - it's LOW.  There was some concern that these slightly higher beds need slightly bigger sheets (deep pockets, they call the fitted one), so just in case, I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond and got some new sheets, so I'm covered and I always thought I should have two sets of sheets anyway.  So, I'll wash those as soon as the bed arrives and I'll have nice fresh sheets for sleep.  I think this was a very important thing to do.  It took over an hour to make the choice and if I end up not liking it, I can return and choose the other one.  It's also under warranty for fifteen years.  And they take the old mattress and box spring out of here, so that's good, too.  To top it off, they gave me free delivery and worked out a discount so that I basically wasn't paying tax.  And the Staitman mom had a coupon for the Bed, Bath and Beyond so I saved 20% on the sheets.

Best of all, I went to the mail place and hallelujah the replacement credit card was there, along with one package.  I came right home and buckled down Winsocki and updated all my online auto pay accounts, so there will be no further e-mails about charges not going through other than the one single one I got.  The only one left is Public Storage and I'll do that in person.

Bruce you probably made the right choice with the slightly firmer mattress.  I've found the extra soft ones feel wonderful but then tend not to give enough support.

Did you go with a smaller box spring?  They make them less thick so the bed isn't as high once it is put together.

I have to say, that in her prime I loved Miss Streisand.  Those first albums are masterpieces of production, arrangements and I find her performances beautiful in the drama or comedy.  Later, in the mid-70s things got a little too "studied" for me, but hearing those early albums for the first time was like discovering gold and hearing something very radical in terms of interpretation.  And her performance in the film of Funny Girl is just great.

Oh, did you buy a set or each sheet separately?  If not a set you might be able to get a larger top sheet if yours is too small.  I have found not all sheets, even though they say they have extra big pockets, fit.  Good luck.

I bought a set of sheets - washing now, as bed should be here by five-thirty.  I pulled all the sheets and mattress protector off the old mattress - you can see what poor shape its in and it's kind of hard as a rock, too.  I think there have been rather big advances in the last decade in terms of design.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but it's different.  The movie has a lot of ABBA songs.  One character supposedly went to one of their concerts, but I'd read an article that said that the character would've been much too young to have gone.  Oh, well.  It was a funny scene anyway.

T.O.D.

I love Barbra Streisand.  Always have since I first heard her on the radio.  Back in the days when they had what was called MOR (middle of the road) radio stations.  I had, at one time, every Streisand album, I probably still have a lot of them.  The one song that I just do not like (and I have no idea why) is "Lazy Afternoon."  Other than that, I love them all; some more than others, but I love them.

I'm done with the first three episodes of "Broadchurch."  I'm really enjoying it...as much as one can "enjoy" a show about the murder of an 11 year old kid.  It's very well done.

The one song of Babs' that I don't like is "Ordinary Miracles."  The lyrics are fine, but I don't really like the melody.  But that's just me.
