What's in my deeveedee player:
To Rome With Love, a rather disappointing Woody Allen entertainment.  I enjoyed it, but can't picture sitting through it a second time.
What's in my seedee player:
Two by The Puppini Sisters (Betcha Bottom Dollar and Hollywood), and Rising Sun, which I had an opportunity to listen to last night.  Phenomenal disc, Bruce.  Be proud.  Be very proud.

Good morning, all! I had a terrible night of sleeping and I would have happily stayed in bed longer but I hae to be at my doctor's office by 10:30 for my flu shot.  I've decided to try the bus today, so well see how I manage.

When I get back, I believe I'll be prone for a while, wondering why I didn't take a car or happy that it went so well. This is the only thing on my agenda until Monday.  I'm getting bored and stir-crazy.

DR ChasSmith, you have a vocal score for WUTHERING HEIGHTS! That's one you never see on shelves. When I first got to NYC in 1979, I had a god friend who was a Herrmann fanatic, and he was interested in writing a bio of the composer. Whenever I hear Herrmann's name, I think of my friend Jimmy.

BK, the LI'L ABNER material sounds fascinating.

Friday morning greetings!  Today was the first day in about a week that I didn't have to set my alarm and get dressed up for something.  I still woke up about 7:30, but it was on MY terms and quite pleasant.  The only thing on today's calendar is a conference call about AAUW and our book group with a Dayton newspaper columnist, followed by some errands.

Last evening Richard and I ventured to Chrisholm Historic Farmstead (http://www.chrisholmhistoricfarmstead.org) for a program on travel to Amish communities.  One of the speakers was a longtime professional acquaintance of Richard's and a member of the AAUW group of which I'm president.  Not surprisingly, she was the best of the 3 speakers.  We had never been to this nearby historic site and it was quite interesting.

Musical-film-on-Blu-ray Alert:

Apparently (although many discussions about this are wary of its being real), a Blu-ray of "Billy Rose's 'Jumbo'" is imminent.  Amazon has it set for an October 8 release.

Presumably, it's a Warner Archives release, but the "next" title announced has been "Sharky's Machine" (for pity's sake), so this title coming out of the blue like this seems a bit unsettling.

I pray it's so as I've pre-ordered it.

My new book, LIFE, LIBERTY & THE PURSUIT OF HOLLYWOOD: More of My Wacky Adventures in Tinseltown, has just been published by BearManor Media and is now available at Amazon.

Here's the link to the book trailer, which you will (hopefully) find amusing:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDTiqUIBBuI

This 2nd memoir contains stories about all of the people pictured in the trailer and more.

PLUS, there are stories about somebody whose initials are "B.K.".

I wonder who that could be.

I have been a busy Broadway baby this morning.  Richard and I now have tickets for 2 matinees - PIPPIN on Nov. 13 and the RADIO CITY CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR on Nov. 15.  Other shows on our list, which we will wait 'til we get there to buy, are CINDERELLA, TWELFTH NIGHT, and THE SNOW GEESE.

By the way, the day we see PIPPIN is Richard's birthday.  After the show, we're planning on Artie's for dinner - anyone want to join us there?

I had two complete Wuthering Heights scores - one was a much later printing from the last ten years - then I finally got the original printing with the same cover as the LP - I got rid of the other one to a film score enthusiast and kept the original, which was happily in perfect condition.

They know how to eat in them thar hills of West Virginny.

Fortunately, buckwheat pancakes seem to be a regular thing at The Original Pancake House.  I say that because I've learned that in some places that serve them, they're only available "in season".  Which is what we're in right now.  The big buckwheat festival of Preston County, WV is starting this very day.

We left for the gym and never made it there.  First we stopped at Radio Shack where I got a new travel/bedside clock.  My current one makes clicking noises that wake Keith up.  We actually stopped for new power cables for Keith's computer but they were out of them.  We then drove to the Radio Shack in Medford and since that was across the street from the new Walmart we went to Walmart.  By the time we were done we needed to come home to call Craig.  He had a half day of work today and will be going out with friends later to celebrate so we wanted to catch him early.

Back from a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich and a small onion rings.  Then I went to the Apple Store and upgraded to the new iPhone 5S.  Usually for something this popular this new there is a huge line, but I walked right in and got it.  I'm setting it up right now - they always tell you it's easy but it rarely is.

Keith's new desk with his new smaller monitor.  The new computer is so small it fits inside the cabinet, which looks like a drawer, on the bottom right of the desk.

Until today I didn't know there was any other flavor except coffee.  My mother would buy them.  As much as I love coffee candy I don't care for Nips.  I think the coffee flavor is too strong for me.

Not the best photo and you can't see the filing cabinet very well.  It looks like the desk.

Everything is so neat & tidy!  Not like my desk, nor Richard's...

ROTFLOL and the complete opposite of my desk.  His desk always looks that good.

Above his old desk was a huge bookcase.  I don't think he has put even half of the books up here.  I'm not sure where we have room for the leftover books.  Some sorting of unwanted books throughout the house needs to be done. :(

I was wrong.  There are only 19 books, that I counted, leftover along with 10 drawers from his old desk.  They are all sitting in the guest room to be put away sometime before Keith's cousin comes for a visit.

Well, I took a nap after I got home and it's calmed me down. The morning was an ordeal in futility. I got to the bus stop, waited forever before a 104 bus showed up and it was packed. So, i thought I'd wait for the next, which didn't come, so I had to get a taxi to make my flu shot in time, That was $8.00 out of my pocket because the traffic at 72nd and Broadway is impossible. I got the shot, and I decided to walk over two blocks and pick up my monthly meds and the hell began.

When i was last there on Sept 17, they charged me $60 for the flexerill, since my HMO had not approved it as a prescription. I got home, cleared it that problem with calls to my HMO and my doctor, got the approval, and I should be getting a credit of $55.00. Well, the pharmacy hasn't given me the credit yet. Today's meds cost me $65.00, because my eye drops for glaucoma, cost $35.00 after the copay. That took nearly all of my cash, and I have to go back to the pharmacy tomorrow with my $60 receipt to get my $55 credit. While i was standing there, my legs gave out. I was so frustrated over the fact that I have to go back tomorrow with the damned receipt to get the credit and the fact that I could no longer stand that I left my mystery novel on the counter, was unable to walk to a bus stop and had to take another taxi, which cost me $10 because all of the construction on Amsterdam Avenue. There's nothing worse than sitting in a taxi going nowhere watching the metro steal your money.

I am so depressed: I haven't worked in the past month since i got back from Dublin.  I have no money, no work offers, and the frustration of being confined pretty much to the area in which I live is killing me. I know the physical therapy is working but it;s working slower than my patience would like, and I hate it.  The icing on the cake would be if I came dan with a mild case of the flu from today's shot.

Keith's new desk with his new smaller monitor.  The new computer is so small it fits inside the cabinet, which looks like a drawer, on the bottom right of the desk.

His old monitor is on top of the filing cabinet, which looks like a dresser, and he is using both monitors.

Jane, does the computer have enough air circulation when it's inside the cabinet?  They can heat up and need enough ventilation so that they don't overheat.

There was a small plate in the back Keith took off to let air in.  The new computer is also much, much cooler than your typical computer.  I will have to ask Keith if all seems fine.

What's significant about "Sharky's Machine" (at least, to me) is that The Manhattan Transfer recorded "Route 66" for the soundtrack and it became one of their signature tunes.  I think that I just might need to get this, just for the song. :D

At some point in the next couple of hours (while I'm still here at work), access to the Internet and e-mail here at work will be cut off.  They have to do some work on the equipment and that will take down any on-line access.  Once that happens, I'll be gone from HHW and will just do some work that doesn't require any Internet work until I leave.  I'll be able to get back on-line when I'm at home.

DR TCB, following up on your comment last night about Wildwood, NJ, I'm sure if our friend Andrea got that close she definitely would pop over to Manhattan to visit DR Elmore.  The Wildwood where she was yesterday is a golf & swim club not far from our house.  It's also the name of the neighborhood where Richard bought a house before he and I were married and where we lived until Rob was almost 3.

I've been having my own back problems.   Yesterday it got so bad I couldn't move without a stabbing pain in my lower back.  So I made an appointment with a young chiropractor.   She did a couple tests and gave me an adjustment and the pain was almost completely gone.  One Aleve and I was feeling pretty good.  I'm still ok today.  I may need one more adjustment next week, but I am amazed at the difference

I've been looking at the deals for NYC in January.  I worry about the weather, but other than that, it's so much cheaper that I may try to go.  Not making any reservations yet

And I'll add JohnG to our list of esteemed authors.  Who's next to go down the author road.  I encourage everyone to try it - it's really a singular experience just to even try.

As a result of a published essay in the book Atheist Voices of Minnesota, I was asked to expand my essay into a full-length autobiography.  I told the publisher that I still have a lot of living to do.  Ask me again in 20 years.  (I think I'll actually be interesting then, LOL.)

Through the book, I have gotten asked to give presentations to atheist/humanist/Unitarian groups, which I'm more than happy to do.  I've gotten chances to meet wonderful people, and hopefully, to change a some people's lives for the better.

My pal James Zimmerman, who also has an essay in the book (and who is a far better writer than myself), has a book coming out about his deconversion from the Jehovah's Witnesses entitled Deliverance at Hand! coming out in mid-October.  I'm looking forward to reading it.

Ah, well, now that I finished watching my deeveedee of The Giant Claw for the umpteenth time, it's time for me to read a few chapters, and then, off to bed.

Nite all!

I'm hungry.  And in buckwheat pancakes withdrawal.

In season?  I didn't know buckwheats were seasonal.  I wonder if it's just after mating season?

I believe it is 6 weeks after mating season.

I was informed today that they would like me to appear at the 95th Anniversary Gala for the Tacoma Little Theatre.  The good news is that they would like me to speak because I have been a part of the theater's history for 57 of the 95 years, longer than anyone else that is still around.  The bad news is that the gala is tomorrow night.

Not the best photo and you can't see the filing cabinet very well.  It looks like the desk.

Everything is so neat & tidy!  Not like my desk, nor Richard's...

We are expecting between two and four inches of rain this weekend in Western Washington.   :( :( :(  Oh and in our Cascades, up to eight inches of rain!

I hope it doesn't start tomorrow.  Larry, my sister's boyfriend and I are going up to Everett for "SnoHomo Ho-Down! (http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/403255)"  Here's a description:

Quote
This is NOT your Grandma's Bingo!!!  This is non-stop campy fun hosted by the mighty purty "ETHEL!!", a musical comedy performance troupe made up of members of the Seattle Men's Chorus.  The only thing bigger than their talent is their hair!  Come join us for the fun and win big cash prizes in a fun and safe environment!  This is a non-alcoholic event, but don't let that discourage you.  There's plenty of trash-talk and festive live performance to keep you in the party mood. This time the theme is "SnoHomo Ho-Down!" so grab your boots 'n spurs and WIN WIN WIN!  Organized and run by volunteers, all proceeds from this event benefit GLOBE (GLBTQ Youth Support Group) and APSC (Aids Project Snohomish County.)

Sounds like it'll be a hoot! :D

George's library is indeed famous tonight.  They appeared on all of the local newscasts, but I never saw George.  Oh well, there is still the 10:00 O'clock News on Channel 13!

I missed the Channel 13 report.  Here's one from Kiro TV (http://www.kirotv.com/news/news/library-staff-dealing-death-threats-after-heroin-b/nZ9NJ/) and here's one from Komo News (http://www.komonews.com/news/local/Olympia-library-staff-on-edge-after-drug-bust-and-death-threats-225595842.html).  One very good reason I'm glad that I don't work with the public. :-\

From DR Chas:

I like flannel sheets just about any time.  But of course more in the cold seasons.

I used to feel that way until I discovered super soft, high quality, cotton sheets.  Now I'm spoiled.

I hate flannel sheets.  They make me feel like i am in the middle of a pajama sandwich!

I don't mind flannel, especially when it's cold out, but what I really don't like is fleece.  It's polyester and I don't like the feel on my skin. :P

Congratulations to our 2 authors.

DR Ben, we have 3 authors! I'm adding  our very own BK, whose Kritzerland trilogy is high on my list of favorite books, and whose facility leaves my intentions of writing something in the dust.  One of these days I'll do that BABES IN TOYLAND history and HHW will have 3.5 authors!

You don't have to do a book on BABES IN TOYLAND (unless you want to).  You have already contributed so much to the Music World with your orchestrations.  Look at all your work on BK's CDs, not to mention the incredible and outstanding work on Victor Herbert.  I love the Herbert CDs that you are responsible for giving back to the world.  I can hardly wait for the next two releases.

As a matter of fact, it will be Victor Herbert I will be listening to, all day tomorrow, while I try to figure out what the Hell I am going to say at this Gala tomorrow night.
