Well, you've read the notes, the notes met and greeted, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they just had a MOOt and groot.
-
And the word of the day is: ASSEVERATE!
-
And here's the complete announcement:
Kritzerland is proud to present a new limited edition release – two world premiere scores on one CD:
HEAVEN CAN WAIT and RACING WITH THE MOON
Composed and Conducted by Dave Grusin
Heaven Can Wait, the 1978 remake of Here Comes Mr. Jordan, received glowing reviews and was a huge hit for Paramount. Warren Beatty, in addition to starring, co-directed (with Buck Henry), and co-wrote the screenplay (with Elaine May). An absolutely first-rate, perfect cast was assembled – in addition to Beatty and Buck Henry, the film also starred Julie Christie, Charles Grodin, Dyan Cannon, Jack Warden, Joseph Maher, and James Mason as Mr. Jordan.
At Academy Awards time, Heaven Can Wait received nine Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Actor (Beatty), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Warden), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Cannon), Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, and a Best Music, Original Score nomination for the film’s composer, Dave Grusin.
One of the key elements of the film that makes it work so well is Grusin’s score. Composers and directors have to decide how much music any film should have. In the case of Heaven Can Wait, Grusin wrote a short score – Beatty clearly didn’t want the film loaded with music from start to finish. In the end, there was only about fifteen minutes of original Grusin music used, but what music it is! It’s a testament to what Grusin wrote that it seems like there’s much more music in the film than there actually is. His main theme, the jaunty and captivating “Heaven Walk,” is one of Grusin’s most memorable melodies – it’s used throughout and every time it appears it’s like having an old friend say hello. And then there is the gorgeous, simple, but hugely touching music for the romance of the Beatty and Christie characters.
This is the world premiere release for Heaven Can Wait. In addition to what ended up in the film, we present the unused cues as well as some alternates as bonus tracks. This release was newly mixed from the original 16-track tapes housed in the Paramount vaults.
Six years later, Paramount made Racing With the Moon, a film directed by actor Richard Benjamin, who’d had a huge critical and audience success two years earlier with his first film, My Favorite Year. The cast featured three actors who had made their screen debuts not too long before this film, and who were all on the cusp of stardom – Sean Penn, Elizabeth McGovern and Nicholas Cage, each of whom gives an incredibly appealing performance.
As with Heaven Can Wait, the score was by Dave Grusin and it’s a beauty. Its tender themes glow with an incandescent beauty – one is period-flavored, while the other is more timeless in feel. Those themes alternate throughout the score, along with an infectious “Moon Boogie” and “Mendocino Station.” In addition to Grusin’s stunning work, there are several big-band 1940s source music cues that are very much a part of the fabric of the film; those cues were arranged and conducted by the amazing Billy May. This is the score’s world premiere release, and it includes the complete Grusin score, along with all the big band source music cues, all taken from the original stereo session tapes housed in the Paramount vaults.
Heaven Can Wait and Racing With the Moon – two never-before-released Dave Grusin scores. Heaven indeed.
Heaven Can Wait/Racing With the Moon is limited to 1000 copies only and is priced at $19.98, plus shipping.
CDs will ship the last week of November, but preorders placed at Kritzerland usually ship one to five weeks early (we’ve been averaging four weeks). To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

My sister LOVES "Heaven Can Wait"! I think I'll have to order a copy for her, as well as a copy for me. :D

But first...to bed!

Morning all.
That is all.

Thanks for sharing all the photos, DR Vixmom.

Glad that you are smart enough not to push yourself too far too quickly, DR Cillaliz!

Exciting new Kritzerland release! :)

good morning to all

Good morning, all.
The cold medicine didn't work as long through the night as it did the night before, but also I didn't feel quite as bad, so...
Anyhoo, I just rescheduled my teeth cleaning for the second time, and I hate doing that. These 'excuses' must sound so fake to them. Probably should have just told them the truth -- that the dog ate my homework.
-
It's Monday. There--I said it.
-
Good morning, all! I'm a bit irritated this morning at my corner bodega; when I order a delivery of a half gallon of 2% milk on Friday, Oct 18, it would be nice to get one with an expiration date later than Oct 21, especially since it's already turning sour and my coffee tastes like garbage. I think I will walk over to the bodega now and throw the milk at them.
I slept well, although I did wake with a headache which I believe is allergy related, and I have therapy at 11:00, which I look forward to.
DR cillaliz, after the bus situation yesterday I don't know when I'll be heading back to Toyland. Perhaps next Sunday. I brought home several things to work on. I'll finish up my current round of Moross work today and I have NYPL notes about ROBERTA to transcribe. I'm sorry that you're suffering from whiplash.
I'm going back to the market to get milk. I need coffee.
-
I believe DR Kerry about it being Monday. DR Kerry does his homework. And he doesn't let the dog eat it.
Now, you'll never believe this one, but I've never seen either of these films. Did you ever wonder if there's someine in the U.S. of A. who hasn't seen HEAVEN CAN WAIT? Well, there is, and that person would be:
Me. (spoken in a tiny squeaky voice)
So I'll catch up to that, but will be starting with the music because it sounds like these are very must-have scores. If they're a dream come true for BK, then I'll take those as fightin' words and will place my order shortly. :)
-
Coffee!
(Fortunately, I take mine black. I do enjoy it with milk or cream every now and then, but when I stock up on dairy, it ends up going bad because I never use it all.)
-
:)
-
Good morning.
Good morning.
;)

CD ORDERED!!
-
I loved all of the photos from yesterday....DR VIXMOM's were terrific.....DR LAURA's bear! Wow!
And the photo from DR SINGDAW this morning really put me in the autumn mood!
-
And I am back with a new half gallon of milk, expiring on Nov. 2. That should last me the week. I also posted my two Netflix discs.
More coffee!
-
I think I saw HEAVEN CAN WAIT at least three times to week it opened locally.....it was so funny....and I loved taking people to see it for the first time so I could see it again.....
Did DR JANE write about what she thought of GRAVITY? I must have missed it....
-
Boy, I am getting nothing but ERROR messages on Book Face this morning. GRRRRRRRRR.
Now I have to go to the bank.....
-
Ordered 2 cd's. Have a 3rd to order tonight (Heaven Can Wait).
Got to go. Late for work.
Later.
Mega vibes.
Have not been home for 2 days, catch up tonight.
:) ;) ;D
-
Boy, I am getting nothing but ERROR messages on Book Face this morning. GRRRRRRRRR.
Now I have to go to the bank.....
Me, too, DR JRand63! I just rebooted my computer to see if that would correct the problem. It did not.
-
Ordered!
-
Great photo from Scrooge, a truly favorite performance, TCB!
-
More anniversary wishes to vixmom and vixdad
-
Cilla, glad you're getting support for pacing yourself!
-
More vibes of all sorts needed to Larry

CD has announced, save for Facebook, that site that is becoming more useless with each passing day. With all the money they've made, with all those resources, you'd think they could keep it running properly, but alas error messages galore and I'm bored. My Facebook soundtrack chums will not be happy if this sells out before I can post about it.
-
Well, I've logged off Facebook and logged back on, and I'm still getting errors. Inotice others posting and commenting but I am SOL at the moment.
There's one person in their Forgotten Musicals list who has to be seriously mentally challenged. In one post he's a 50 year-old tacky, flaming queen, and in the next he's a five year-old boy, both personas absolutely difficult to take. The third face of Eve is a rational, generous, intelligent person with information and videoclips that make me wonder how many times his parents dropped him on his head as a child.
-
Yep, Facebook is completely screwed up and I actually see no new posts from anyone, just recycled things from last night. Can't post, can't upload photos - zilch. Bravo.
-
The ONLY new posts, and there aren't many, were made from mobile devices - no one else can post anything, update anything or even "like" anything. Completely screwed up. People are up in arms everywhere - it's all over Google.
-
And it's not the first time this month and they had the worst shutdown in their history last month. Again I say - BILLIONS of dollars. If I was paying for adverts on there I would be more than a little angry right now.
-
And maybe not all mobile devices because I just tried from the iPad and nada

Marriage is now legal in New Jersey with no further court action! Christie has decided to end the appeal (because it finally got through to his brain that he has a snowball's chance in hell of winning the appeal!)
Hoo and Ray!
NEW JERSEY: Gov. Chris Christie Drops Appeal Of Same-Sex Marriage Ruling
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie today dropped his state Supreme Court appeal of the lower court's ruling that legalized same-sex marriage. And that's THAT. Via Politicker New Jersey:
Gov. Chris Christie on Monday morning advised the Attorney General to submit a formal letter to the high court announcing its intent to cease the fight. “Chief Justice Stuart Rabner left no ambiguity about the unanimous court's view on the ultimate decision in this matter when he wrote, ‘same-sex couples who cannot marry are not treated equally under the law today,’" the administration stated. “Although the Governor strongly disagrees with the Court substituting its judgment for the constitutional process of the elected branches or a vote of the people, the Court has now spoken clearly as to their view of the New Jersey Constitution and, therefore, same-sex marriage is the law. The Governor will do his constitutional duty and ensure his Administration enforces the law as dictated by the New Jersey Supreme Court.”
-
Well, I'm off to physical therapy. Perhaps it will be corrected by the time I get home/
Has anyone seen Trisha, who appears to be a black woman counterpart to Morton Downey Jr? Her offensive program's on right after "The Doctors." Her appearance tells me it's time to turn off the TV, brush my teeth, and get ready for therapy.

DR George wrote:
Interesting. The library where I work has a 7-day loan period for feature films, but a 3-week period for TV series. Any item at all can be renewed up to two times for whatever the regular loan period is, unless there are requests.
We have a 3 day loan for films. But you can renew them online two extra times if nobody else has them requested. Same for tv series. They are 7 days but can be renewed two additional times if nobody has reserved them. This worked out well for me for the last season of Damages. It is hard to watch 10 eps in one week. So i think i had it for two plus weeks (I kept renewing before the week was up because i was paranoid that someone else would reserve it).
I'm glad we don't have 3 weeks for tv series i would be waiting forever for Homeland season 2.
-
DR Cillaliz sorry you couldn't play. But good idea to realize in advance that it would be harmful. I'd hate to think how sore you'd be if you had done it.
-
DR Elmore, sorry to hear about your bus troubles. I'm wondering is there some kind of bench you could carry with you. I see a lot of people with all kinds of neat contraptions. I've seen walker type things with seats on them. Just something that you could use as a seat whenever you needed to sit down and rest your leg.
-
Finally was able to post the announcement to Facebook.
-
Monday morning greetings! I crashed early last night - no Sunday afternoon nap - and slept for 10 solid hours. Easing into the week, which looks pretty quiet on the calendar.
-
My early crash last night meant that I missed the wonderful photos posted by DRs Vixmom and TCB!
-
The title of today's notes is apropos because I've been invited to 2 - count 'em 2 - Meet & Greet events for an AAUW member who's running for city council. Can't make either one, but I'll vote for her anyway.
-
Good morning, all.
Speeding along on yerba mate at a rate that defies the speed of thought. Hope I get some work done today.
And productive, happy Monday vibes for all.
More health vibes for Larry, ChasSmith and Doug R.

Which movie do you prefer: HERE COMES MR. JORDAN or its remake, HEAVEN CAN WAIT?
I used to prefer Here Comes Mr. Jordan, but I've come to think Heaven is actually a better movie. Enjoy this both, though.
-
I always thought that poster image for HEAVEN CAN WAIT was just perfect....and Warren Beatty looks so good there!
TOD:
Warren Beatty: Heaven Can Wait, Bonnie & Clyde (if Paul Newman had starred it would have been called Clyde & Bonnie), Splendor In the Grass, Mickey One, Shampoo
Julie Christie: Darling, Heaven Can Wait, Far From the Madding Crowd
The rest of them....I liked them best in HCW!

You should try one of the non-dairy creamers. They have like a three or four month shelf life.

Great photo from Scrooge, a truly favorite performance, TCB!
You are so kind, FJL. Thank you.
-
DR Jennifer my eBook library is getting in more and more books for Kindle, many of which are only for Kindles, so your library might do so in the near future.
I have only had one book I could sign up for before the publication date and most of the books aren't available at the eBook library for awhile after they are published. There is no way I can keep on top of these and know when they can be reserved, plus if my hold list is full I still can't do it.
I never lack for something to read so I am fine waiting.
-
DR Vixmom I enjoyed your photos of Cold Spring Harbor very much. Thank you.

DR TCB I like your beard.

Did DR JANE write about what she thought of GRAVITY? I must have missed it....
You didn't miss it because I haven't seen the movie yet.
-
Ah...then I will stop looking for it....yet
-
They gave me a new half gallon expiring on 11/02.
And I am home from physical therapy. I rode the No 7 bus up to 96th and transferred to the crosstown, and after therapy, I rode the crosstown to Broadway, transferred to the No 104, and I am home. I am now biking at Level 4, and I did 3 miles today. I've had a tasty lunch, and i have a bit of work to do.
DR Jennifer, I schlep enough crap around without adding a portable seat to the list. And Facebook is back, as BK reported.
DR JRand63, yes, Ms Goddard has her own show called "Trisha," and I call "White and Black Trash Behaving Badly." I will never understand these narcissistic fools on this show and the people's court shows who insist on airing their idiocy and dirty laundry on a national network, but I do love Judge Judy. She kicks butt.
-
DR Elmore, sorry to hear about your bus troubles. I'm wondering is there some kind of bench you could carry with you. I see a lot of people with all kinds of neat contraptions. I even put up a photo of a cane with a seat that DR elmore ignored ;)

TOD:
I have never seen HEAVEN CAN WAIT, and I don't believe I have seen enough of any of the cast member's films to comment on the TOD. I have seen a lot of there old TV work, however.
-
Speaking of old TV, I have am very much enjoying the dvd set of WIDE COUNTRY television series, starring Earl Holliman and Andrew Prine. Very good stories.

When I hike I do not carry a walking stick, even a light weight ski pole as most of the other hikers do. It bothers my hands and shoulder too much. Occasionally I borrow one to cross a stream or for steep down hills. DR elmore too bad you can't have an assistant to carry a portable seat for you.

And my Moross work is all caught up. The only other work I have is to type up my ROBERTA notes.
I need a nap, I think.

I knew Mrs Prine in Oxford, Ohio, when she was just a Tallawanda High School senior tramp. And she was, she really was! She was also what we now call a "Mean Girl." She was a real work.
-
My sister LOVES "Heaven Can Wait"! I think I'll have to order a copy for her, as well as a copy for me. :D
Two copies have been ordered!
-
DR elmore are you referring to the current Mrs. Prine?
I met Andrew a couple of times when I was in high school. He was very nice.

And The Song Of The Day Is: SHOW ME

Yes. I believe she's still married to him. She was a high school senior in 1968 and she played Kim in a summer theatre production of BYE BYE BIRDIE.

Nobody has Nooks here. I think most people have kobos (as the big bookstore here is Chapters which sells kobos). So that is what the e-library is for only. More places are selling kindles in Canada, but still not a lot.

I've only seen one book, the recent John Grisham novel, before the release date. They are either seeing it on the newly released list before I do or checking more diligently than I am. I'm finding the queues grow very quickly after I get on them so it could be worse.

Here's a question for y'all with original cast album knowledge:
A few Capitol albums, on first release, came with the Broadway program held in a slot on the back side of the jacket -- off the top of my head, MOLLY BROWN and TENDERLOIN had 'em. Were there others?
I have a GOLDEN BOY gatefold album that isn't one I bought originally, with the program laid inside, and I wondered if that album was issued with it or if the original owner put it there. If it did come with it, did the original jackets have a slot?
Not trying to get all OCD on yer arses. :) Just curious about this one.
-
I went off to the job today, even though still suffering from a sore throat and cough, because I couldn't face sitting around ill at home for another day.
-
Oy. Hang in there, DR Doug R.
My cold is at the point where I feel a lot better, but where the things I feel like doing and what my body will allow me to do are two different concepts. I'm just puttering around, organizing some stuff, and after ten minutes I find myself perspiring lightly and just completely drained of energy. So I rest a while and go back to it for another ten minutes. I know this is normal. It takes time to get over a cold that only started two days ago. And you don't want to rush it. You can't rush it. But damn it all.
-
Well, I'm off to physical therapy. Perhaps it will be corrected by the time I get home/

I don't think her program is available in this area at all. I've never heard of her...not that that means anything.

I don't remember any other recordings with souvenir programs beyond the two on Capitol and ON A CLEAR DAY on RCA.

Thanks! Interesting, because I don't remember having a CLEAR DAY one, and I bought that album when new. Or pretty close to it.
CORRECTION: Nah, I had it. I remember now. It's just not like me to misplace things like that.

I've never seen the original. ::)
-
Coffee!
(Fortunately, I take mine black. I do enjoy it with milk or cream every now and then, but when I stock up on dairy, it ends up going bad because I never use it all.)
You should try one of the non-dairy creamers. They have like a three or four month shelf life.
I've gotten soy milk at Costco and that has a shelf life of a year...and it doesn't have to be refrigerated.

Teeth are clean, helper has picked up some invoices, I've printed out a LOT of orders (this may not last two days), and I had a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich.

Question:
Which movie do you prefer: HERE COMES MR. JORDAN or its remake, HEAVEN CAN WAIT?
I've never seen the original. ::)
You should.
There is the 1943 film "Heaven Can Wait", however the story is different.

MBarnum sometimes baffles me in ways that are baffling. He hasn't seen ANY films featuring Mr. Beatty, Miss Christie, Mr. Grodin, Mr. Henry, Mr. Warden or James Mason? I don't really see how that's possible, nor do I see any way to call oneself a movie fan not having seen any films of these people. But, then again, stuff to discover.
-
Here Comes Mr. Jordan is okay, but Heaven Can Wait is in a whole other league in just about every way. It's one of the best movies of the 1970s, and was a huge hit, nominated for many Oscars and the audience reaction back then was beyond belief - just the loudest and longest laughs and then tears at the end. People went over and over again.
-
I see there's no Blu-ray. Is the DVD decent? Not that there's a choice.

I believe there is a Bollywood version, as well. For all I know I may have seen that version already.

Actually, I will...I just added it to my Netflix queue and moved it to the top. :)

But it isn't that I haven't seen any of their films, it is just that I have not seen enough of their films to have a favorite. Someday I will catch up, or ketchup, and delve into more of the classics of the 70s and 80s....but there are just still too many films from the first half of the century that I want to see first...not to mention those films put out by Japan, India, Mexico, and Egypt over the last 100 years.
If I only had the time to watch them all!

It seems that someone at my work mentioned HEAVEN CAN WAIT not long ago, telling me that I needed to see it. Perhaps I will put in an extra effort into seeing that one.
-
And don't feel too sorry for me, as I appreciate films like ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS and LURE OF THE SWAMP every bit as much as others appreciate THE MALTESE FALCON
-
You know, the only Charles Grodin film I can remember seeing is the 1976 version of KING KONG.
-
A really stunning photo..........
..of my backyard.
I didn't post the 180 degree view...

DR elmore too bad you can't have an assistant to carry a portable seat for you.
And an umbrella! :)
-
Still up to my ears in BBQ deadlines and only 12,000 words written. Must write at least 3,000 more today. It's getting to be a struggle.
-
The DVD of Heaven Can Wait is very nice for a DVD and should upscale nicely, too. I watched it in preparation for our release.
-
A blind guy on a bar stool shouts to the bartender, "Want to hear a blonde joke?" In a hushed voice, the guy next to him says, "Before you tell that joke, you should know something."Our bartender IS blonde, the bouncer is blonde. I'm a 6' tall, 200 lb black belt. The guy sitting next to me is 6'2", weighs 225, and he's a rugby player. The fella to your right is 6'5" pushing 300 and he's a wrestler. Each one of US is blonde. Think about it, Mister. Do you still want to tell that joke?" The blind guy says, "Nah, not if I'm going to have to explain it five times."
-
I made up a recipe for Southern Tea Cakes and then made the mistake of baking them this afternoon. Just a touch of nutmeg in the batter and, man, those are not what I need to be eating.
-
Five!
-
man, those are not what I need to be eating.
Because they don't go well with BBQ sauce?
-
EVERYTHING goes well with celery salad! :)

I think "Here Comes Mr. Jordan" is a wonderful movie and charming. Because it isn't as funny as "Heaven Can Wait" I think it should be seen first.

Not part of the diabetic diet, sir.

Overall, HEAVEN CAN WAIT is probably a better picture, but I love James Gleason's performance in the original.

DR elmore are you referring to the current Mrs. Prine?
I met Andrew a couple of times when I was in high school. He was very nice.
Yes. I believe she's still married to him. She was a high school senior in 1968 and she played Kim in a summer theatre production of BYE BYE BIRDIE.
Andrew Prine's marriages:
Spouse
Heather Lowe (14 February 1986 - present)
Brenda Scott (19 August 1973 - 19 October 1978) (divorced)
Brenda Scott (6 April 1968 - 24 March 1969) (divorced)
Brenda Scott (28 December 1965 - 1966) (divorced)
Sharon Farrell (24 March 1962 - June 1962) (annulled)
After Ms. Farrell, Prine gained notoriety as "boyfriend of record" when actress Karyn Kupcinet (daughter of columnist Irv Kupcinet) was found strangled to death in her West Hollywood apartment. He, along with another man Kupcinet had dated, was questioned by police. The case was never solved. Irv Kupcinet believed he knew the identity of the murderer but could never prove it.
At the time, it was considered murder because her hyoid bone was broken. On the other hand, she was known to be strung out on some pills and had written something that read like she was tired of living. That led to speculation that her hyoid may have been broken in a fall. The Kupcinets vehemently denied the possibility and always considered it a murder.

Enjoyed the blonde joke about the blonde joke, DR singdaw.

When that murder took place, I was living in an apartment at Fountain and Sweetzer, 1/2 block away from the murder site. I used to walk by that apartment building quite often.

I lived two blocks south and one over on N. Kings Rd., DR Druxy. But that was in the late '80s.
Also in that neighborhood, in 1976 I was in a friend's apartment across the street from Sal Mineo's on the night he was murdered. We knew nothing about it, but saw the police doing their thing as I left late that night.

You are correct. What I read was a bit confusing as it linked her murder to speculation that she died because she knew something about the assassination of President Kennedy. Irv refuted that saying she didn't know the assassin.

Just finished a kale salad with kale picked from the backyard. Yum.
Back on the barbecue trail tomorrow.

It really is a sad story. Reading it I felt sorry for her father. Reading the note left behind it sounded like a suicide note. I have to wonder why Prine would even have gone to see her after everything she was doing to him.
-
I've decided to watch the new Criterion edition of I MARRIED A WITCH. The notes on the film are by an author suffering from terminal cuteness, and I found them embarrassing to read. TheCriterion editors should have slapped some sense into him.
-
I just watched WEIRD WOMAN, first I've seen of the Inner Sanctum films. Very nice! Now, I think, on to the HHW movie of the week, BURN WITCH BURN.

Hungry.

That's a very odd combination of people...knowing them now. I was just imagining what it would be like if they had a reunion performance.
;)

Letterman looks so embarrassed doing that.

I had an hour hot stone massage. she did some trigger point deep tissue treatment. Man! Can I feel the difference. I had an adjustment, too, but I'm doing a lot better in that department. Not going back for another massage until next Thursday. It will only be 30 minutes. I can tell I'm getting better.

Envious of the massage (not the reason for it).

DR Cillaliz sorry you couldn't play. But good idea to realize in advance that it would be harmful. I'd hate to think how sore you'd be if you had done it.

TOD:
I have never seen HEAVEN CAN WAIT, and I don't believe I have seen enough of any of the cast member's films to comment on the TOD. I have seen a lot of there old TV work, however.
Do yourself a favor, M Barnum, and rent this movie.

The only one I know about was MOLLY BROWN.
