Well, you've read the notes, the notes mentioned a video shoot in Pasadena, and now it is time for you to post until the Pasadena cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CLEPE!

DR Jeanne - I am moving the week before Thanksgiving. Loading the truck early in the week, and driving myself and the dog later in the week. I am hoping I don't run into too much snow and ice along the way.
-
Good morning. Thanks again for the travel vibes!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning, all! I decided to sleep in, and I realized that I had made plans to go to Toyland this morning and needed to do so. I am up,dressed, and on my first cup of coffee. I hope to leave very soon. I have several things to print out and bind, and I've got to finish with the DEAREST ENEMY orchestra parts for Rodgers & Hammerstein.
-
We must see photos of the new house when you get there DR SING DAW.
-
I am not feeling so great again today, but of course I must go to work. oh well.

Needless to say, we will not have the whole house, just half of the second floor. But it's twice as large as where I'm living now, for less rent.
-
Oh that's very nice.
-
Good morning, all.
Made it to Galveston late and actually slept well in the hotel room. Wish I could enjoy the beach, but I'm off to work soon.
-
BK, your notes made me want to watch Giant again, even though I only saw it last week or so.
Funny, but I think of it as a western, not a southern picture.
-
Southern movies:
TOD:
Show Boat (1936)
All the King's Men
Eve's Bayou
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
Long, Hot Summer
The Reivers
Wise Blood
Nashville
The Gingerbread Man
Bull Durham
Cookie's Fortune
-
Sing Sing, it looks like a South Minneapolis neighborhood. Do you have a separate entrance? I see two doors, one on the porch and one on the left.
-
Woke up to discover that a friend of mine from the newspaper had died. He was a great photographer, someone who had actually made a living at it after he left the paper.
Rick had been ill lately with pneumonia, some rare strain that landed him in the hospital for 15 days and even when he was released, it was to a clinic and not home. I knew he was on his second round of antibiotics, but I guess nothing helped.
He was quite the ladies man, and I saw women all swarm about him. One of the funniest memories I have of him was when he was in a meeting with the three of us food writers. He saw lipstick on my boss' teeth and he leaned over, stuck a finger in her mouth and rubbed it off. She is this squat, roly-poly lump and she was equally appalled and delighted at that. We all laughed about that story for years.

Here's the last photo of his he posted on Facebook. And here's his caption, "Trail of flowers so souls may find their way up the path and home...pueblito outside Puebla, Mexico. RH":

-
Glad you made it to Galveston without problems, DR John G!
-
Well, actually I just reread what you wrote. Sorry you were late nut glad you made it eventually !
-
I'm at Washington National Airport. I was pleasantly surprised to be put in the TSA Precheck line, as I was the other day in LA. I guess it has something to do with being a member of a frequent flyer program. In that line you don't have to remove your shoes or belt or put your laptop or liquids in a tray.
-
good morning to all
-
John, he's moving to Minnesota, they have snow 11 months of the year ;) ;)
-
Sorry about your friend , DR John G.
-
And BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO is no more. The remaining 300 stores are to closed
-
John, he's moving to Minnesota, they have snow 11 months of the year ;) ;)
That's what people think about Buffalo too, Ben! I may see a flake or two while I'm there. Actually, I think snow is in the forecast for DC next week.
-
John, he's moving to Minnesota, they have snow 11 months of the year ;) ;)
I knew that, but somehow I never picture places covered in snow. Even the Arctic, I see the water more than the ice.
-
Thank you, KevinH.
-
Two!
-
Very sorry to hear about your friend, DR John G. That is a beautiful photo - I'm sure all his others are, as well.
-
There was snow in that photo, Singdaw. What's that all about?
I have no idea. ;D
But I can assure you that although the house appears decorated for the holidays, it is not decorated right now. This is a picture from a previous year, supplied by the landlord.
Yes, DR Ben - separate entrance, fortunately. And even a detached garage! For only 1 car now - we're on the top of the waiting list for a second. In case it, you know, snows. :P
-
Good morning, all.
Up and at 'em early again this morning for more electrician work.
Coffee! Blueberry muffin!

I'm a late-comer to GIANT, but loved it from the start, and that start was only several years ago when I first watched the DVD straight through. I didn't yet have a flat panel HDTV, so I wasn't aware of the abysmal quality of that DVD transfer. But I was also so incredibly wrapped up in the story that I probably would have tolerated it pretty well regardless. Eventually having learned about the state of the film on home video, and finally having a great screen, I had no desire to revisit it till Warner had done their work. There will be a very special evening set aside for this.
I've found I love films, whether "epics" or not, revolving around the late 19th/early 20th century development and growth of the US or its cities or industry or reigning families or whatnot. THERE WILL BE BLOOD is a good one. KANE and AMBERSONS. CHINATOWN. THE CARPETBAGGERS. I'm painting with a broad brush, but all of these things relate to some extent. Novels, too. I'm sure there are many more such things to discover.

TOD:
GONE WITH THE WIND
SHOW BOAT
ALL THE KING'S MEN
RAINTREE COUNTY
MISSISSIPPI BURNING
TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
I know that Texas was part of the Confederacy, but I don't really consider Texas to be part of "The South"...which is why I didn't include GIANT.
Texas is Texas!
:D
-
Greetings from Toyland!
-
TOD
I include GIANT because with Texas you get both west and south. But of course it depends on the piece.
This is another area in which I need to discover more things, but off the top of my head...
GIANT
THE SOUND AND THE FURY
THE LONG HOT SUMMER
TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
SHOW BOAT
GONE WITH THE WIND
SONG OF THE SOUTH
HUSH...HUSH, SWEET CHARLOTTE
IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT
DELIVERANCE
PRETTY BABY
BODY HEAT
SOUTHERN COMFORT
THE BIG EASY
MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD AND EVIL
and most any Tennessee Williams.

And let us not forget ... swamp movies!

Thanks for the VIBES - the cold medicine did the trick of clearing me up and stopping the sneezing
Alka Seltzer cold medicine clears me for nearly 24 hours but it makes me tired but that was OK because I slept right through the night and woke feeling well enough to be at the dentist by 8 AM

I was pleasantly surprised to find the the crowns were so expertly made that they required no trimming or tedious refitting - they popped in - did an xray to check fit popped out , adhesive applied and popped back in and hour and a half late I was eating breakfast at the IHOP
-
I had the new eggnog pancakes - I am afraid I do not recommend them;
I should have gone with my first impulse, the pumpkin pancakes, which are always very good
-
However I also had eggs bacon and sausage so the lack of pancakes was not an issue - of course I probably had more calories for breakfast than BK had all week
-
well time to mosey into the day and actually accomplish something

I do wish SingDaw could find time to mosey into NY for a last East Coast HHW get together before he moves westward ho

I thought you had to sign up for this. I guess they did it for you.
My favorite part was not having to declare liquids. When I could not take my belt off and put it back on they did not make me. Of course I was getting a major pat down so I didn't understand the need to take my belt off. Once I was able they made me do it again.

John, he's moving to Minnesota, they have snow 11 months of the year ;) ;)

I remember Craig getting stuck on the other side of the pass in California. It was two nights before he could drive the last stretch home, holed up in a hotel with his belongings the dog and the cat. Fortunately his full day of being stranded was on a football Sunday. He didn't mind at all.
-
DR Singdaw the house is beautiful. I hope you are very happy there.
-
DR Vixmom I'm glad your morning, except for breakfast, went exceptionally well!

From DR Ginny:
DR Jane, I had not seen that story - thanks for sharing!

Feel better vibes for DR Vixmom!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Back from the video shoot, but just for a second - must now be on my way to the theater. New motor on the garage door has been spazzing out for the last two days and this morning it was really bad - so Garage Man is coming Monday morning to check it out - nothing like a new motor and springs to not work after four weeks. Really annoying. I don't think I can chance parking the motor car in there until it's working properly - it literally took me ten minutes to finally get it to close.
-
Saturday afternoon greetings! I have been to beautiful downtown Springfield, OH, and back for a lunchtime meeting at the hotel where the southwest AAUW branches will host the 2014 state convention in April. I'm watching the beginning of Michigan/Nebraska on the big TV in the family room, but eventually will have to move into my Momcave to pack.
-

And The Song Of The Day Is: MARIA
-
if anybody has a BJ's near them (they are like Costco) they have a great deal going if you buy 5 different items( from a list of, I think, 8) you get a free turkey between 9 -12 lbs - the one I took was just about 11 lbs and it was all the items I had to buy I would have bought anyway. There were additional discounts on the other stuff I was buying - I ended up saving $28 -
-
Hello, everyone.
Glad to hear that Vixmom's Installation of the Crowns was brief and uneventful. Good news on the $$$ savings for the Vixfamily, too.

I would like to have seen them speed that up at the end. The biggest question to me was always "what did he do with his clothes?"
People often ask this. I have it on good authority that Superman rolls his clothes into tight little bundle and that, along with Clark Kent's glasses, fits neatly into a special pocket in his cape. He does need to be able to change back into his clothes, and therefore must have them with him. :)

Home from Toyland! I worked for nine hours, edited and finished the string parts, scanned the corrected vocal score so that there is now a pdf file for every number, and I'm happy to have that much accomplished.
The problem once again is the goddamed bus service. I had to wait around 15 minutes for a No 5 that got me to Broadway and 61st, and then I waited 40 minutes fr a No 7 to get home. In that 40 minute wait, one showed up so packed that I could never have sat, and then 25 minus later, after three No 5 buses and three104 buses, the sonofabitch showed up.Rook me one hour and45 minutes to get home. Damn. Effin MTA. Pathetic.

That works for me :) His cape then protects his clothes and glasses from burning up when he jumps into burning buildings.

Good evening
-
John G Condolences about your friend
-
Today was quite a day. I started with a family trip to the vet. All three cats. Ricky meowed and freaked out the hole 17 minute ride. They were all quite vocal. It went quickly and we were back home. They are all very exhausted and so am I
-
I'm pretty exhausted myself. I really need my down time and haven't had enough of it lately. So I'm staying in tonight
-
The preliminary results are in and our AAUW branch made $900 more on the holiday bazaar than we'd projected in our 2013-14 budget!
-
Am finally getting a chance to sit down after a day on the road and plenty of barbecue. The day ended with what I had made this mission for: BBQ crabs. They are not smoked, but dipped in a spicy, salt mix, then deep fried. They come six to a plate and despite eating all day, including the best barbecue I've had on whole journey, I ate every last crab on my plate. And I'm a happy camper.
-
Fatigue just washed over me and I realized I have a 5am wake-up tomorrow - 'night!
-

Thank you all for the condolences. Despite the work, it's been a down day.
-
And now my elfin printer is dying andI need to buy a new one. Oh, wait. I have no more money. Just put the damned bullet right between the eyes and aim carefully.
-
Good evening. It was another early morning.
I am sorry about your friend, John.
