Well, you've read the notes, the notes had themselves a merry little Christmas, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they had themselves a MOOrry little Christmas.
-
And the word of the day is: MILKSOP!
-
good morning to all
-
hope everyone had a great day yesterday
-
i haven't seen enough movies this year to have a favorite.

Happy Day After!!!
-
Hi, Everyone! Today is the DH's birthday - the Feast of Stephen mentioned in "Good King Wenceslas" - and so there will be a family brunch of some kind at a restaurant.
Other than that, a pretty quiet day planned. Another snow emergency was declared, so the car has been moved (again) to the proper side of the street to avoid being towed.

Good morning, all! I am on my first cup of coffee and about to head to the laundromat.
I slept well, but I'm feeling very groggy this morning. Perhaps sleeping another hour would have been nice. I awoke to find a wonderful, completely unexpected Amazon gift certificate waiting for me in my email, so that gives me one more day of Christmas, and I like that. I hope my pleasure over such kindness lasts the whole day.
And off to the laundry!

Morning all.
That is all.

Good morning, all.
Slept fine except for a bit o' backache and one short but bizarre and annoying dream.
Coffee!

Sing, for some reason, when you posted the first picture of your new abode many moons ago, I thought you lived in the city of Mary Tyler Moore, it turns out you live in the city of F. Scott Fitzgerald and on a very high toned avenue to boot!
-
We will be out and about visiting a friend today and then we will come home stuffed with food and good will but we may end up knoshing on leftovers anyway.
-
It's now cold here in New York, though not Minnesota cold. It's around 30 degrees. There is no bad weather, only bad apparel choices.
-
With that, I am off to walk on the treadmill for 4 miles.
Later.

I am back from the laundromat. My washer had a gunked-up coin slot and stole three quarters from me, but the manager took care of it.
The skies are quite gray; I guess we're in for rain this afternoon. In 10 minutes I will g to the bank, head back to the laundromat, return home, make the bed, and vacuum and mop. My life is too thrilling.
-
Good morning. Dylan is in for his first of several weeks of treatment, Skip brought him in.
And I shall very happily get to some end-of-year tax work soon.
-
Good morning. For breakfast I am eating the leftover vegetables. I don't think I want to eat anything but SOUP for the next week.

DR Ben - we don't live right ON Summit, but a block off. The homes are still pretty grand! :)

Today is a very big day in Canada. Boxing Day! Craziness at the malls. But I love it. The stores don't open till 1pm. But everyone goes at 11:30am. It is very odd. Some stores do open early. Should be a fun day! My favorite shopping day of the year.

Happy day to singdaw's DH.

Nice neighborhood DR SINGDAW....have a fun brunch.

Thanks DR SINGDAW.

Thanks, DRs John G., FJL, and Jrand63!

I think I shall greatly enjoy SAVING MR. BANKS. But it will likely be on pay-per-view or Blu-Ray, rather than in a theater. I just have no patience for rude audiences in public anymore. Alas. :P

I totally hear you, but I must be the luckiest movie-going person in Western Connecticut. Our theater was two-thirds full with a silent but totally appreciate audience who let forth with a spontaneous outburst of applause at the end.
And I have been this same lucky person at every vintage film showing (The Birds, Lawrence of Arabia, Cleopatra -- even Raiders of the Lost Ark and Jurassic Park) in the last couple of years, and (of course) at every MET Live-in-HD showing.
-
TOD:
I have not been to a movie theater in 2013, so I have not seen many of the new movies. I wait for them to be released onto DVD.
However, one film that I really liked is SIDE EFFECTS.
There are several twists in that one that surprised me, and that is not an easy thing to do.
I also saw and liked MUD and BEFORE MIDNIGHT.

Laundry is finished. Thank God.

Thursday morning greetings! Post-Christmas weariness, here...
Richard and I have had our morning-after-a-turkey-dinner breakfast - turkey & bacon sandwiches on whole wheat toast. After we get cleaned up, we'll pick up a prescription for Mom and deliver it, along with her Christmas presents and some dinner leftovers.
-
BK, this morning was my first opportunity to watch the Richard Sherman videos from Tuesday evening. They are wonderful and "Feed the Birds" brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing them!

My sister and brother-in-law served turkey and ham yesterday. The ham was one of the best I have ever tasted. Although I eat ham, it has never been a favorite. But this ham was wonderful. They bought it at Costco. The hams were selling so fast that the butchers just rolled them out in the box, and the people were grabbing up right out of the box.

For startes, we had Tom's Famous Shrimp Dip, my niece's deviled eggs, and a shrimp ring. For dinner was ham, turkey, my niece's homemade macaroni and cheese, my sister's out of this world potato salad, and rolls. Dessert was some kind of fruit bars that my sister's sister-in-law made. Everything was wonderful.

I love ham! My mother hated fowl, so for Christmas and thanksgiving we always had a huge ham and ginormous turkey. During the school holiday break, every lunch was a wonderful leftover sandwich of ham or turkey with swiss and mustard.

It's been happening for years, but it's getting to the point where it won't be long before something has to change. For the first time ever my mom said that maybe she needs to carry around a notepad and take notes so she doesn't forget and she's finally acknowledging she doesn't remember things.
-
Well, better get moving. I need to get something to eat and I think I'll go see Saving Mr. Banks at 1:15.
DR Singdaw, have you been to the theater in St. Paul? I would think a Minnesota audience would be well behaved. :)

It sounds selfish, but I am glad I missed that part of life's aging process. My mother wasn't young when she was killed, she was 79; but she was still active, vital, and sharp. That made it tougher to lose her at the time.

I do have another project now. They got dad all set up with his new computer, but didn't transfer anything for him. I wasn't there long enough to do it properly, so I brought his old computer home with me. I'm going to hook up a spare monitor and keyboard and burn his photos and other stuff to cds and label them all for him so he can find them. Don gave dad a 1 gig flashdrive, so I'll transfer stuff via the flash drive, but he did some great photography before he got too shaky to do it and I want to save that on CDs too.
-
Yikes, I have too many projects....think I'll go to the movie
-
BK mentioned it yesterday after his jog, but I was also amazed when I left for my sister's house how deserted the streets of Tacoma looked It was like a ghost town. A complete reversal of the day before.
-
DR Cilla I had to laugh at your laundry comment as laundry is exactly what I did most of the day.
-
From Bruce:
I do not understand any friend who would let politics come between the friendship. That is just the height of something or other.
I completely agree and am totally baffled by it. In a way we kind of dropped good friends we had here, not because their beliefs were different but because they wouldn't stop badgering me when I didn't agree.

Has anyone seen The Secret Life of Walter Mitty? Unless it's really good, not planning to see it in the theater
Walter Mitty sounds as though someone took the story by James Thurber and decided to make it an action flic.

DR Elmore, I am so glad you got a Blue Ray player (region free). What fun. I have no recommendations for BD movies, but lots of recommendations for other region movies! Both CONFESSIONS OF A SORORITY GIRL (1957) and THE BRAIN EATERS (1959) are available on region 2 disks.
-
In our family we keep hoping that as my mom ages (she is 85) she might start becoming nicer....hasn't happened yet, though.
-
Actually, my sister and brother in law had a discussion with me yesterday regarding mom. For several years I was taking care of mom (although we lived seperately) after she moved to Salem in the early 2000s. 3 years ago, she moved in with my sis and brother in law, who live about 20 minutes away.
I was relieved when that occurred, as mom's negative attitude and rudeness really took a toll on me.
Now, all mom ever does is complain...about the food, about my sister not being home enough, about the heat setting in the house, about the grandkids being too rambunctious when they visit, not buying the correct brand of toilet paper, about this and about that...my sister is at her wits end.
Mom visited with both of my older brothers during the holiday week, and complained to them about living with my sister. My brother's were both incensed...not with my sister, but with my mom.
My younger brother, however, is furious with my sister...and we are all thinking it is time for mom to move in with him, so that he can see what it is like trying to take care of someone who is never satisfied with anything. Mom herself, thinks she would prefer to move back to Medford, anyway...so we will see what happens.
-
Mom has always been a "the grass seems greener on the other side of the fence" type. Which explains why she has been married and divorced three times.
-
Well, that is almost a whole page of my getting that off of my chest! LOL!
Cheaper than therapy!
-
Now for something more pleasant...poster for a recent Pakistani film.

MBarnum, I guess it's a little too late to start laughing at each and every negative comment. I have long had to do that whenever my mother starts talking about her in-laws. It's also getting to where slights they made to her 58 years ago are as fresh as if they happened yesterday (she hasn't seen a single one of them in 15 years, but that doesn't matter). I know that nothing in her life is good enough for her.

Perhaps most of you are better off only knowing me on the internet; and those I've met, only seeing my in small doses. Considering the number of friends who have abandoned me, or at the very least distanced themselves from me since this whole handicap things started; I can't help but think that I have become a negative person to be around, or perhaps too demanding of my friends. I am not fool enough to think that I am practically perfect and they are all heartless so and so's.
If this is true, and i think it is; I need to find one of those mirrors that shows you the truth, instead of what you want to see. Othewise, it is going to be a cold and lonely old age.

The issue of gay rights has been going strong in India the last few years, and many Bollywood celebs are speaking out...here is the best example I have seen so far.
Actor Imran Khan has made this very funny video of him answering stupid questions from straight people about gays.

Mom herself, thinks she would prefer to move back to Medford, anyway...so we will see what happens.
VIBES YOUR MOTHER MOVES TO MEDFORD WITH YOUR YOUNGER BROTHER!!!!

Here's the third song Richard Sherman sang at the Do - finally got it uploaded to You Tube.

Wow! What a delightful time! Thanks for sharing.

I love seeing my parents, but it also makes me sad to see their memories deteriorating and to see them struggle to do things they've always know how to do. It's just aging, but it's really stressful to watch.
I know...my dad wasn't walking too sturdily yesterday. It looked like with every step he was looking for something to hang on to. And his hearing is going. :(
That sounds like me :-\

From the NY TIMES review of the must-miss "August: Osage County":
Really, “acting” is an inadequate word for what the cast of this movie is doing. Maybe, in honor of one of the leading industries in the Sooner State, we should call it “fracting.” The application of enormous pressure is involved, a great quantity of subterranean gas is forced to the surface, and the environmental consequences are likely to be controversial.
Another way to think of “August: Osage County,” which was directed by John Wells and adapted by Tracy Letts from his own play, is as a thespian cage match.

I've made out my checks for estimated tax payments to the state and IRS. I think that when we reach social security age, our lives should be tax-free. They're bleeding this turnip to death.
I agree, or at least cut in half.
-
DR TCB, last time I saw you, you were full of laughs and smiles! No negativity there!
I was still walking then, wasn't I Mike?
-
I would think a Minnesota audience would be well behaved. :)
You may very well be right, DR Cillaliz! ;D
-
Many thanks to DRs Ginny, TCB, Jane, and George! :)
-
Brunch was at a joint called "Big Bowl" - Chinese and Thai fusion cuisine. It may be a local chain; I'm not quite sure. In any case, the drinks were plentiful, the company convivial, and the food outstanding. It was the DH's first birthday with his mom in over 30 years. Working in churches and synagogues, he's never been able to take time off at the holidays to come home. So that was nice.
-
Brunch was promptly followed by a luxurious nap. Funny how as a child naps are a punishment; as an adult they are such a treat! :)
-
Well, apparently Mom has not gotten dressed for 3 days and has chosen to lie on the couch. She did perk up when we showed up with presents to open, but says she hasn't been able to eat since Monday evening. She did, however, tuck right into the Fannie May chocolates we gave her and seemed to have no trouble.
-
And, DR TCB, you are so wrong about yourself!
I agree. And how sad for people to abandon you when you might actually need them.
-
This made my day.
The issue of gay rights has been going strong in India the last few years, and many Bollywood celebs are speaking out...here is the best example I have seen so far.
Actor Imran Khan has made this very funny video of him answering stupid questions from straight people about gays.

I am so tired from Boxing Day. I cannot remember ever seeing so many people at the mall. It was crazy.

I can't imagine that they could work, they are just a machine. But then I go to the ATM machine and see that the computer can read a hand-written check that I deposit and can tell what it says. Then I think, maybe the machines are smarter than me!

Welcome to my world, DR Cillaliz...
It sounds selfish, but I am glad I missed that part of life's aging process. My mother wasn't young when she was killed, she was 79; but she was still active, vital, and sharp. That made it tougher to lose her at the time.
This may sound weird but sometimes I think my Mother's mind is TOO sharp, because she recognizes how limiting her physical difficulties are. She gets frustrated and, I'm afraid, increasingly depressed.
-
Back from a sandwich and a small thing of onion rings. Not a peep from the Darling Daughter so have no idea what's happening today in terms of a visit. I'm sure I'll hear at some point.

DR TCB, last time I saw you, you were full of laughs and smiles! No negativity there!
I was still walking then, wasn't I Mike?
Barely, as I recall.

DR Ginny, it sure sounds like depression. Has she talked to her doctor about that?

Is it possible medications she is on is also making her depressed? If so maybe an adjustment will help. While I dislike antidepressants I have found they have helped many older people who are suffering from age related depression.
-
Anyway, sorry, I am really not trying to play the "poor me" card, only being honest about myself. I think I am probably more short-tempered than I used to be.

The mall is only allowed to open at 1pm. You have to get there really early so you can get parking. At 11:40am the place was packed. It is crazy.
A few stores opened early.

DR Jane, aside from her sister (who died 2 years ago), my mother is probably the least compliant patient I know when it comes to meds. Not a battle it choose to fight.
-
You could always give in to your emotions and cry in front of her, maybe then she will attempt to find help for her depression. I understand your not fighting the battle. I am sorry for you, especially since her mind is still working she has much to offer.

LOL, DR Jane! Mom is the known crier in the family and I don't want to open THOSE floodgates.

Hey, everybody!
Vibes to all those needing them. Particularly sympathetic vibes to DR Cillaliz: my beloved grandmother's dementia (ongoing for the last 5 years) has started speeding up the last few months, and it seems like we're entering the final waiting phase.
Thanks for the vibes and so sorry to hear this. Vibes to you, your grandmother and entire family

Well you are delight to be around here. Perhaps you should try to make everyone laugh when you see them. You certainly make me smile and laugh a lot.
-
Ditto on what Cilla said :)
-
It was 50 degrees here today!!! ABOVE 0
-
I didn't go to the movie. I went down by the theater and there was absolutely no place to park. I even drove around the block a couple times. So, I'll wait a couple days.
-
OMG it's going to be 49 degrees on Saturday and 2 Saturday night. Now that's a quick change.
-
I need some be well vibes. I can't get sick right now.
-
I did go to Best Buy and found a Roxio thing that I can hook into my stereo and then into my computer and use my real turntable to transfer records to digital. I got something similar a few years ago but don't have the software anymore and this new one looks like it may be better. It wasn't too expensive so I got it. I also got a cheap keyboard and mouse to use with dad's old computer. Thought I had extras but I don't.
-
MANY VIBES TO JANE~~~~~
-
Be well, DR Jane!
-
SO, I haven't started scrubbing for that project, but I do have everything I need for my other projects. I used some rebate debit cards today and they gave me a $15 gift card for shopping there. Turned out to be a very good deal
-
Hmmm dinner. Don't know what to make...guess it's time to look and see what's in the fridge
-
Callie has been hanging around with me a lot. I think she's happy that I didn't have anyone else try to give her meds. She's not having any problems, so it all worked out ok
-
BK thanks for sharing all three Christmas videos of Richard Sherman. I really enjoyed all of them
-
Hello, everyone.
Stay-well vibes to Jane and anyone else who needs them.
-
My relaxing Christmas Day was marred late last night when the two twenty-somethings next door once again could not stop celebrating. They like to have friends over and they get very LOUD. I've asked them repeatedly to quiet down by 11pm. California law states 10pm, but I'd be happy with 11:00. The previous discussions were polite; last night's was not. I am at the end of my patience with this. It has gone on the entire four years that I've lived here and the manager has made it clear that she does not want to be bothered. She told me it was my problem. Last night my neighbor said that 11pm isn't late and that I'm fussing over nothing, that I am the only one bothered by it and why should they change just to suit me (ALL of us who live near them have complained), and that I'm treating them like children. I treat them the same way I'd treat anyone making this much noise and showing so little respect for others, but they do act like children.
What is wrong with people? I think their age has a lot to do with it. They are clearly in denial, insisting that they are not noisy. I hate to call the police for such matters, but I may have to next time.

Good morning. Dylan is in for his first of several weeks of treatment, Skip brought him in.
Best of doggie good health vibes to Dylan!

Happy birthday to DS Jayson!

I think I shall greatly enjoy SAVING MR. BANKS. But it will likely be on pay-per-view or Blu-Ray, rather than in a theater. I just have no patience for rude audiences in public anymore. Alas. :P
I can certainly relate to that.
-
TCB, I meant to thank you for posting the photos and to mention how pleased I was to see you return to acting.
-
Thank you very much DR's Cilla, Ginny & Jeanne.

Go to an afternoon matinee on a school day. I find those audiences are generally better. But not always
Ditto. Some matinees are quite empty, other filled with seniors who can't stop talking. But your chances are still better.

Just off the phone with Richard Sherman - for Christmas I gave him something he's asked for for several months - a lyric he could set. He loved it, made a few additions so his music worked better for it, which I'm fine with, and he just sang it to me over the phone - pure Sherman and very much like a Sherman Brothers song, which was my intention. I think we'll record it soon.
-

Tom, I think you're misinterpreting it. I suspect they see your condition and think, "There but for the grace of God..." and turn away because they cannot cope with the thought of having to do what you're doing. It may have nothing to do with YOU at all. It's your condition. Completely unfair, of course. As someone with health problems myself, I can truly say: you find out who your friends are.
As difficult as it is to be positive at times, it is certainly worth the effort. Not just because it makes you more congenial, but because it just makes life easier.
-
That is fantastic, BK.

Aside from not having a yard for a dog, rude neighbors were a problem in our apartment in the valley. One night just as I was about to go next door and complain about the noise the neighbors broke into a chorus of Happy Birthday. I just shook my head and put a pillow over it. I decided to wait for the next party to complain.
We had another set of very sweet older neighbors that were apparently deaf the way they yelled at each other and fought. They were the early morning noise makers. One morning I knocked on their door and sweetly, obviously have awake, asked them to be a bit quieter. The man apologized for waking me then turned to his wife and began shouting that she woke me up and it continued-lol I never complained to them again.
I'm sure there were times we were loud with our friends. We tried though and asked everyone to keep it down, especially leaving at night.

It's tough when you're all living so close together. I'm quiet to start with, but I also don't use the garbage disposal or blender early in the morning or late at night. I try to be quiet and considerate. Some people don't make the effort. Some people are just loud (including said neighbor). IMHO, it is not unreasonable to ask people to quiet down late at night.

I've long felt that one of the hardest parts of getting older is that we lose people we care about. I am now watching a good friend decline. She was always so healthy! But she now has a systemic inflammatory condition that is causing all sorts of havoc. The drug she's taking helps her breathing, but is ruining her eyesight. The doctors keep telling her it won't, but it is. I've encouraged her to consider other options, but I don't think she's done so. It's very difficult to watch.

I do think our forgiveness of late night noise diminishes as we get older.

Did you try talking to them again today when they may not be "under the influence?"

Happy birthday to DS Jayson!
Happy Birthday to Jeanne's DS Jayson!

I saw my hairdresser this morning for a haircut. No one was in the shop but us. It was fun dishing the dirt.

TCB, I meant to thank you for posting the photos and to mention how pleased I was to see you return to acting.
Thank you very much, Jeanne.

That is wonderful news!

Let me say once again, I LOVE MIRANDA HART!
Et moi aussi!

I do think our forgiveness of late night noise diminishes as we get older.
I agree. In fact, I raised this issue with a concert pianist I know some months ago. He said we get more sensitive to noise as we get older. I think I've always been a bit sensitive to it, but especially now. He told me that when he's not playing or listening to a favorite recording, he just wants quiet. Yes.

Thank you for the perspective. I will try and follow your advice, Jeanne.

Sorry, Jane, but I just shaved off Mr. Potter!

Are you thinking of getting one?
I can't imagine that they could work, they are just a machine.
A vacuum cleaner is just a machine, is it not?
Hmm. So is a robot!

He didn't seem at all drunk last night, although drinking is certainly a factor in all this. The number of bottles they recycle is huge. It could be that he holds his liquor well. I need to keep this factor in mind. He may be more amiable at another time.

Happy birthday to DS Jayson!
Happy Birthday to Jeanne's DS Jayson!
That would be Singdaw's DS (dear spouse) Jayson.

DR Jeanne, whew, that would be very, very upsetting. I am grateful that my apartment building (7 floors and 102 apartments) is so quite and calm.
Of course we have great management, and they make sure things are pleasant for all of the tenants.

Mike, how does your apartment management handle noise complaints? My cousin in Houston lives in a large complex. She told me that if anyone complains a security guard shows up right away at the offending apartment. No discussion, no argument. I don't know if that is the norm.

Wonderful and thrilling news from MR BK.....
What does the credit Special Thanks to Moose from Richard Sherman mean at the end of SMB?
-
DR TCB people avoid me all the time - I figure it's because I tell them what I think - IF I am asked.....usually I wait until I am asked....USUALLY
-
DR Jeanne, I feel sorry for you. I've lived around people like that, and I could find the right solution, other than moving out.
-
DR George, many thanks for the package, which arrived today.

DR Jeanne, I feel sorry for you. I've lived around people like that, and I could find the right solution, other than moving out.
I've looked many times for better housing, but have found nothing. I even tried a higher price range, thinking that would help. It didn't. I'd have to go MUCH higher. The tricky thing is evaluating the potential for noise. This place was quiet as the grave when I viewed it. Ideally, I'd like a duplex or triplex, ie, lower density, that is not surrounded by other apartments. If someone tells me about a building where management is strict about noise, I'd definitely consider that. Otherwise, how would you know?

I believe it's a credit for the book of memoirs edited by his son:

My hairdresser, Richard, is from New Jersey and sometimes--like today--comes across as a sort of Mafioso type. Maybe I need to ask him to talk to my neighbors. "Hey, stop bothering Jeanne!"

You might want to invest in a good pair of earplugs, Jeanne.

Tried that. Not comfortable. If anyone knows of really comfortable earplugs, I'd like to know about them.
A DVD will often drown them out, but my little white noise machine doesn't do enough.

You said other's have complained. Maybe you need to knock on their door in mass.

I am so tired from Boxing Day. I cannot remember ever seeing so many people at the mall. It was crazy.
Did you get there early before the rush?
The mall is only allowed to open at 1pm. You have to get there really early so you can get parking. At 11:40am the place was packed. It is crazy.
A few stores opened early.
Did you manage to get some good bargains?
A few. It still baffles me how the day after Christmas can be the biggest shopping day of the year.
There was one department store that made me feel so sick. A whole section of the store smelled of perfume. It was horrible. Occasionally only at the front of a store this happens. But they had a whole aisle in the middle of the store dedicated to perfume. And I guess they were spraying. My head started pounding. :(

I am hoping that the relatively new neighbors above me are just entertaining holiday visitors. The first couple of weeks they were very quiet but last week there started to be loud stomping around and a possible bowling tournament.

I almost had a heart attack. My kindle froze. And would not start.
I tried to push the starter button but nothing. I went to amazon help. ANd it said to hold that button for 20 seconds. Nothing happened. It said to recharge for 30 minutes and try again.
When I was about to do this my kindle started to reset itself.
Phew that was almost the worst after Christmas day ever.
I am always scared it could die.
Thankfully all is well now.

Well the restaurants and fast food places are allowed to open early. I guess some stores risk getting fined.

That is unusual. One of the markets we shop at, there are several near us, has a section near the front of the store with stinky stuff. I either hold my breath or cover my face when passing it. It is very annoying. At least it is far enough away from the check out lines.

I would have told them that you have tried to be patient. But the law says 10pm. And next time you will be forced to call the police and then it will be on THEIR RECORD. Call the police and apologize to them. But tell them you've tried everything.
The manager really should take care of it.

I think I shall greatly enjoy SAVING MR. BANKS. But it will likely be on pay-per-view or Blu-Ray, rather than in a theater. I just have no patience for rude audiences in public anymore. Alas. :P
I can certainly relate to that.
I am more concerned about 1)smelly perfumed people sitting next to me and 2) my legs do not like to sit in that position for 2+ hours.
I am much more comfortable watching dvds at home.
I didn't even see the new Hunger Games movie yet. :(
-
Thank you DR Jennifer.
-
Watching a movie I don't think I've seen before. "Call Me Mister" with Betty Grable, Dan Dailey and a very young Bobby Short. Not a great movie by any means, with half of Harold Rome's songs cut, including "South America, Take It Away." But I'm realizing that I really enjoy Dan Dailey.

I have not found comfortable ear plugs. I was wondering if your white noise machine would help. What about the white noise machine combined with tv. That drowns out most things for me.

Sephora was particularly bad today we well. They must have sprayed a lot of their perfume.
Usually in the department store it would only be at the front. But it's been much better the last number of years. But today there was a whole aisle in the middle of the store that stunk. I should have complained. But the store was so busy. It was really bad. My head was pounding.

It's terrifying. I held down the button but didn't realize it was supposed to be for 20 seconds. The other two times just before i did it for 10 seconds.
I was just about to start my 115th book of the year. So i was in a panic.

Speaking of books. I finally had to find out what Bryan sent as nothing had arrived. It will arrive in the mail and fit in the mail box so I don't have to watch for it anymore. He sent me a subscription the the NYT review of books. :)

I'm sucking on a Cold Eze. I do not like these things and usually wait until I actually have a cold to take one. Later tonight I will have a Halls Defense which doesn't leave as strong of an aftertaste.

Good night, all.

Signing off to watch 20/20 about the real Downton Abbey - 'night!
-
Finished one motion picture, a screener of something called Her - and am now watching a new Blu and Ray of Jacques Demy's 3 Places pour le 26th (3 seats for the 26th) starring Yves Montand.

Congratulations, BK!

It was 50 degrees here today!!! ABOVE 0
50 degrees?? Two days ago it was what? Below zero?
Yup, that's Iowa weather and why we are always watching it

I've looked many times for better housing, but have found nothing. I even tried a higher price range, thinking that would help. It didn't. I'd have to go MUCH higher. The tricky thing is evaluating the potential for noise. This place was quiet as the grave when I viewed it. Ideally, I'd like a duplex or triplex, ie, lower density, that is not surrounded by other apartments. If someone tells me about a building where management is strict about noise, I'd definitely consider that. Otherwise, how would you know?
Don't know that you'd know about strict management about noise, but you could go by the complex at different hours on different days to see if it's quiet

Yikes!! :o I would HATE it if my Kindle died.

I couldn't open my book this morning and had to hold down the button to shut off my Nook and then hold it down again to restart. It worked. I know your fear-lol
I have the Kindle app on my PC, my laptop, and my ipad, so I never have to worry about being half way thru a book and the device not working.

Watching a movie I don't think I've seen before. "Call Me Mister" with Betty Grable, Dan Dailey and a very young Bobby Short. Not a great movie by any means, with half of Harold Rome's songs cut, including "South America, Take It Away." But I'm realizing that I really enjoy Dan Dailey.
........... and he would have enjoyed you, too.

Thanks, DR Jeanne! :)

I stopped at the office tonight to get an extra power cord and as I came down the elevator, it banged and stopped. This was at 7:00 at night when no one is in the building except the cleaning people. I pushed a couple other buttons and kept hitting the door open button and it finally opened. I went down the stairs the rest of the way. Whew! Now that made my heart jump a beat.

~~~No-Stuck-Elevator Vibes for Everyone!!~~~
-
That would be very disconcerting, DR Cillaliz. Glad that you weren't stuck in there for a prolonged period of time.
-
I decided it was a sign that I should stop going to the office while I'm on vacation :)
-
I did see one of the cleaning staff on my way out and warned her. There is a phone in there and cell phones work, so it wouldn't be hard to get help, but who wants to have to do that
-
I fear it is too long a journey for me to PAGE 11...
-
Oh - not that far, actually. Only 8 more posts.
-
But posts of quality? Aye, there's the rub. :P
-
Who can come up with quality at 9:30pm?
-
DD Zach did his business. Outside, mind you. Good boy!! :)
-
Frenzy on, I shall. God willin' an' the creek don't rise.
-
Apologies to all DRs who have to slog through all of this.
-
But very shortly, the goal will have been achieved.
-
And then, the world will be our oyster.
-
At last - PAGE 11!
-
And now, DR vixmom has arrived, and she can easily carry us to page 14 or 15, at least... :)
Tomorrow night on PBS Marvin Hamlisch What He Did for Love. Looks good from the clip
I shall be looking forward to a report on that Jacques Demy film, of which I knew nothing except the few words about it I just skimmed on the IMDb.
And of course a report on the quality of the Blu-ray!
-
Me, apropos of absolutely nothing, I just pulled Cinema Paradiso off the shelf and watched it straight through. I'd only ever watched it once before, some 15 years ago, and God help me I think it was on a rented VHS tape. This was the Lionsgate BD of the theatrical cut. I have the DVD set containing the extended or director's cut, whatever it is in this case, and might give that a run-through tomorrow evening. I believe there's a UK or French Blu-ray coming out with the works, so hopefully that will be good.
-
Well, I've been at work all day and I don't want to be here anymore...so I'm leaving.
Until later!
G'night!
-
The new UK Blu is getting raves. I'm not so fond of the long cut, which just ambles along for three hours - the shorter cut, which was made after the film got very bad notices at Cannes, was the one that made the film a hit.
-
Finished with my viewing for the evening.
You can say that again! It took long enough that I actually yelled help once, but apparently no one heard me
-
Ok, I'm all alone
-
But I think I can get the page turned
-
We could have a nice round number
-
Twelve is a good number
-
And it's only 10 posts away
You can skip these posts, they are only for page turning purposes
-
And because I'm up past my bedtime
I've been moving photos from one computer to another
