Well, you've read the notes, the notes were in the spirit of things, and now it is time for you to post until the spirited cows come home.

Today I will not only be out and about, here and there, and hither and yon -- I'll also be running to and fro.

Oh yes, it's a Monday!

TOD:

I love cult films, but there are definitely some that qualify for the TOD.  If only I could think of what they are.

I can say that I never, not once, not ever, attended a midnight showing, or any other showing, of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.  Which isn't to say I don't like the material or the film.  I still have the big box laserdisc set, and the Blu-ray, so even though I haven't seen it in who knows how long, I do tip my hat to it.  But as a public cult phenomenon, I abstain.

Let's see.  What else?

HAROLD AND MAUDE?  Except that after all these decades, I'm warming up to it.
REEFER MADNESS?  Yes, I get it.  I just can't sit through it.
THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE?  I've probably gotten through it at some point, but ..... eh.

Good morning, all! I slept very well, and the Flexerill kept the nerves very calm last night so I fell asleep immediately.

I'll shortly leave for physical therapy. When I get back, I need to check bathroom ceiling status with my super. Then, I must call my barber about a haircut, call the Cole Porter Trust about my full scores for JUBILEE, and do some more work on the orchestrations for the Cincinnnati medley. If I can play my schedule correctly, depending on the ceiling issue, I could get my hair cut tomorrow morning, then visit Roberta at the Porter Trust, and then perhaps have lunch with her.

And now the time has come for me to take my leave, for a day of E&Tness involving musically oriented but annoying shlepping.

Be back late this evening.  VIBES for a good day all around for all concerned!

TOD:

THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE

I know, it's John Ford, John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart...and everybody considers this to be one of the great classic Westerns.

But, the direction and script are sloppy; the cast is too old for their roles.  If it wasn't for the final "Print the legend" line, this film would be virtually forgotten.

Hope all DR"S had a wonderful Easter.

Our families went to The Roycroft In in  East Aurora, NY for brunch.

The food was very good and the Restaurant is indeed charming and historic.

Later on we went to my Son Matt's and his wife Sarah's house in Hamburg for Dinner.  It was very nice, and again we had a great meal.

And I am home from physical therapy! My trips to and fro were an Easter gift from DR Ginny and Richard. I saw my retired super Steve on my way back in; he and his wife leave for Serbia on Wednesday, and I get all teary knowing that. I will miss them around the building enormously.

I've got to track down the new super and learn what's going on with my ceiling. I cannot put my life on hold waiting for this job to be finished.

It will probably sound stupid to you.  Our director (and the school's Artistic Director) is always talking about trying to impart professionalism into the students.  Yet, on Preview night, we were supposed to start at 7:00 p.m., which meant the House was supposed to open at 6:30.  Instead at two minutes to seven he has us on stage while he tries to decide what to do for a curtain call.  Meantime, the people who came as guests for the Preview, are still stuck out in the lobby at five minutes after seven.

yes that would definitely   have annoyed me - don't preach  "professionalism" and then demonstrate amateur behavior like that
Title: Re: IN THE SPIRIT OF THINGS
Post by: TCB on April 21, 2014, 08:26:38 PM
Okay, previews are basically rehearsals.  So opening night comes around, and again the director is fiddling around, and doesn't get the House open until 6:57.  And these people were paying the real bucks to be stuck out in the lobby.  And, of course, because of this; we started about ten of fifteen minutes late!!

No the way to teach the young people about professionalism.  And it threw my whole performance off.

Also it is guaranteed to hurt the actors as they are now playing to an audience of annoyed people instead of to a group that have found their seats , read through their program and gotten settled and ready to see the show  and unless there is assigned seating you also now have a rush for the "best seats"  really annoying those who came early to be sure of getting a seat in their preferred location

I have finished with the entire draft of the thesis. And I have sent 89 pages off to the two readers to get their feedback, comments and corrections. The last time I got comments back from them, it added four pages.

But the hard part of the work on that part is finished.

Now I have to get started on the creative writing project that is also part of this madness. At least I can label that a work-in-progress whenever i have to turn it in in the next two weeks. Obviously I couldn't do that with the thesis.

Daylight is coming soon.

Finally back from an exhausting rehearsal - I literally had to stop doing book scenes - she crammed all the twelve page book scenes into one rehearsal and I was going berserk - so the designer run has been put back by six days so I'm not feeling so up against the wall.  Li'l Abner has several long, long scenes in which a lot of dialogue happens with thirty-five people on the stage.  There's nothing you can do but just stick everyone wherever and keep the people in front clear for the dialogue - but when you do all of those in one day, it just feels like you're beating the same dead horse over and over.  So, I restaged the first part of the opening number and that was fun and feels right to me.  I'd come up with what I think is a clever gag for the first two lines and everyone seemed to think it was fun and funny.

Tonight's "Chamber Music" went quite well.  There were still a few missed lines, but the show is fairly solid.  There were lights and the few sound cues.  Christian, our stage manager (and friend of TCB), ran the show.  I'll find out over the next couple of days what I'm supposed to do.
