Well, you've read the notes, the notes were deep, and now it is time for you to post until the deep cows come home.

Well, I'm off.  Tomorrow night, Theater Artists Olympia is having a movie night!  We're going to show "Bucket of Blood" and "The Brain That Wouldn't Die."  Tonight, we're going to test everything.  I have a couple of microwave ovens that we will use to make popcorn to sell, and we want to make sure that they don't trip the circuit breakers.  And we want to make sure that the movies look good on our newly made screen. :D

Be back later!

Well, it turns out that the extra microwave oven that I had (it was donated for a future TAO garage/yard sale that hasn't happened yet) did NOT have the glass turntable and plastic-wheely-ring-support-thing.  It also turns out that the glass turntable and plastic-wheely-ring-support-thing from my microwave oven fit the other one, so we decided to use that instead of mine because it's easier to program.  We also made popcorn in several different ways and think that a couple of them will work.

It took a bit of figuring things out, but we got the projector to work and it's pretty darned cool!  The screen that was built is great!  First, we tested "Bucket of Blood" for a few seconds and then Pug (TAO's artistic director) wanted to check out "Hell-Boy (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001AK3S4Y/)" (one of her favorite movies).  Neither Laura nor I had seen it before, so we ended up watching the whole thing!  Tomorrow (if anyone actually shows up) will be a lot of fun. :D

Hey, Sing, I've been talking to one of my sisters and I also saw reports on the news this morning before I came in the office. I know you said you're on a hill but I hope things are OK with you flood-wise! My sister said that MN is about to have the wettest June on record. The Mississippi River looks pretty wild. She's in North Minneapolis and I don't think she's in any danger of flooding but you never can tell.

re: the KFC thing that they are now saying is a hoax.  Will the girl still get any of the money to help with reconstructing her face?  Even if they were not at KFC, she is still badly scarred, right?  Not her fault if her grandmother or whoever created this stunt.

Actually I just googled it and KFC is still giving the girl the money, which I think is a lovely thing for them to do.  They unfortunately got a ton of bad publicity and I think this generosity will go a long way.

Good morning, all! I am taking a bus to the market for celery in the immediate future.  When i return, i've got laundry to do, and then hopefully the super will finish up the bathroom.

I've worked with Stritch three times, two Men's Chorus concerts and a Merman Gala with her and the Plaids, Lypsinka, Patti Lupone, Bette Midler, and Lainie Kazan.  Each was an experience.

DR John G, I hope your dad's birthday was a very happy one!

The whole angst over the film of INTO THE WOODS boggles my mind. the show's a second-rate musical and any changes could be possibly be for the better, the original noisy production is documented and available commercially, and perhaps it's all desperate publicity.

I only saw Stritch live in her show at the Public.  That, of course, was pretty damned amazing.

That was 2001, right?  It was the night before Thanksgiving, and driving home late that night with only five minutes to go, I hit my first (and I hope my last) deer.  Rounding a curve on the interstate, suddenly the image of a deer trotting across the road was frozen like a flash picture in my mind, and I instantly knew it was going to be a hit, no way to avoid it.  I was driving my friend's car, she had dozed off in the passenger seat, and suddenly I yell "SHIT!" and then BOOM.  Fortunately, the angle of collision was in our favor, not the deer's.  We were unharmed except for a little windburn feeling from the air bags, it was obvious that the deer didn't suffer, and insurance took care of the car repairs.  Thanksgiving dinner the next day had a little more resonance to it than usual.

Now aren't you glad you asked about Stritch?

I fell asleep quickly last night, but awoke at six-thirty with allergies.  Took a pill, then made the mistake of checking my e-mail.  I had an angrier than angry e-mail from some customer outraged that we had taken her money and not sent her item - apparently she'd called and something is wrong with the voice mail on our machine as it wouldn't let her leave a message.  So, she sent an e-mail at five this morning (our time).  I saw it at seven, whilst still in bed trying to go back to sleep.  I got up and wrote her back.  Since her tone was completely obnoxious I responded with the facts - that It's a Wonderful Life has an official ship date of last week of July, that that is clearly stated on the item page and that it will, in fact, be here on Monday and ship four weeks early.  My response was even-keeled even though I really didn't want to be.

Until I saw she'd opened a Paypal claim.  I then wrote her back the kind of e-mail I wanted to - told her if she didn't close the claim within the hour that I would refund her money.  Then I read what she posted at Paypal, which was REALLY obnoxious, so I responded there, refunded and closed the claim.  Then she made the mistake of writing me back, telling me she could talk to me any way she pleased and that I had no right to talk to her in  the same way and to refund her "damn" money."  I made one final replay telling her I HAD refunded her damn money, that I don't subscribe to "the customer is always  right" horse manure, and that if someone hurls obnoxious attitude in my direction it will come right back.  She also called us a fly-by-night company - I told her that was a slanderous comment and that she didn't want to go down that road with me.  And that has been my morning.

She was a complete idiot.  I mean, e-mail sent at five my time, phone call made to the office at the same time.  Claim filed immediately before anyone could actually respond.  Response made at seven-thirty in the morning my time.  Attitude-laden e-mails follow and she's allowed to write those kinds of things and the person to whom she's writing cannot, in her mind, respond in kind.  This is the world in which we live.  Perhaps I'll just print her e-mail here to show you exactly what she's about.

Had some chicken corn chowder and bacon and eggs for lunch.  And am dealing with an ongoing and ridiculous UPS problem.  They lost a box of 100 CDs - fully insured.  Eight days for them to try to find the box.  Fail.  Then we expect a check.  Fail.  It goes to claims and they have an additional day.  They wanted some paperwork.  We gave it to them and expected them to cut a check.  Fail.  They asked for the invoice for that shipment.  We have now supplied it after many conversations.  We expect them to cut a check. Fail.  Then it goes somewhere else, to their adjuster.  They, too, can ask questions and only THEN do they cut the check after which it can take ten MORE days to reach us.

This morning, I am driving a friend and one of her daughters to the airport.  They're going to California to the visit the college where the daughter will going in the fall.  I really should be in bed so that I can get up very early. :P

Good night and have a good day, all!

I didn't get as much sleep as I had wanted (big surprise there), but I got the girls to the airport in time.  We chatted on the way up, but on my way back, I listened to the German cast recording of Disney's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Der-Glockner-Von-Notre-Dame-1999-Original-Berlin-Cast/1015/)."  I love this recording, even though I don't speak German.

I'm not at home so I can't check, but if these are what I think they are, I was able to download them for free from iTunes when the CD compilation was first released.  If they're not the same things, I'll definitely get these.

Wow, Bk, what a mess to wake up to. I used to sell things on eBay and I had some real doozies. Professional victims who try to pseudo-righteously bully you into giving them things they don't deserve. What lunatic nerve to open a Paypal claim before even hearing from you. What an idiot. Unfortunately, the only way to handle them is to let them know that you're not a pushover, and you won't put up with their BS. I think you did the right thing by laying down the law hard, and cutting her out for good. But how exasperating!

That's the best Elaine Stritch story I've ever heard!

:D

It was a good story.  I was just reading the importance of hitting a deer, if you can't stop, at an angle so that it doesn't go through your window.  Seems you instinctively did the right thing.

If I did, it was totally unconscious because it seemed there was no time to do anything but hit the brakes to lessen the impact.  But yes, the front corner of the car took it all, and all I was aware of was maintaining control of the car while we slowed and came to a stop at the side of the road.

I've thought about the reality and consequences of a deer or other large animal being thrown into the windshield, and that's got to be one the most horrifying things ever.

DR JRand63, there's no storm cellar?

After seven hours, I got the damned section on the Battle of the Marne down to about 480 words. I am waiting for the Man from Philadelphia to complain about the word count. I'm counting every word I will throw his direction.

I honestly believe none of it is necessary in notes on ROBERTA, and this is why he drives me up the wall. I did find one episode in the battle on September 7,1914, both moving and funny. The Marne is a tributary of the Seine, and the battle took place close to Paris since the Germans were trying to take the City. The German forces were close to breaking through General Maunoury's French forces. They were only saved by the arrival of 6,000 French reserve infantry troops ferried from Paris in six hundred taxicabs.

Do they still sell Jiffy Pop in those aluminum cookers?  I remember my mom used to buy them.  Since I don't eat popcorn, I don't know what is available  and what is ancient history.

That's a lovely family photo, Ginny.

Thirty-five more pounds and I might see if I can get a family photo.

Oh Marne, I thought you meant Marnie. That was the Battle between Alfred Hitchcock and Tippi Hedren.

My brother just returned from visiting his daughter in NY.  They saw "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder" which my brother is now raving about.  Did anyone see this?  A "search" didn't show any comments.

It won "Best Musical."

Forgot I had a damn lunch meeting that I don't want to go to tomorrow - and I can't even eat because I've got a dinner with people I like and that's when I'm eating.

Well, Theater Artists Olympia's first Movie Night at The Midnight Sun tonight was (financially) not really successful...it cost us almost twice what we took in in ticket sales, but tonight really was just an experiment to see if the process worked.  We did get a couple of people who are not regular TAO goers, so that was good, and all the concessions foodstuffs can be kept until our next event, so we won't have to buy them all again...that's really good.

As for the features, we first watched a locally made short called, "Lost," and then the Mystery Science Theater 3000's version of The Brain That Wouldn't Die (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004RFIF/) (aka "The Head That Wouldn't Die", which is a more accurate name).

We had advertised that "Bucket of Blood" would also be shown.  The audience members were asked if they wanted to continue and most people felt that it was getting too late.  It was after 10:00 pm, at this point, so maybe we need to rethink the start times of future movie nights...and probably not have double features (even though "Bucket of Blood" is only about 66 minutes long).
