Title: I'VE GOT A LOT OF LIVIN' TO DO

Well, you've read the notes, you've lived the notes, you've partaken of the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the fershluganah cows come home.

I just ate some popcorn AND cereal. I am full. I am sleepy. I am going to bed. (Oh - thanks for 'splainin' the church-house, Joey. Sounds like a great setup.)

Last night (actually, less than an hour ago), Jay posted this:

Quote
Dear Reader Joey:  You may or may not be pleased to know that one of your posts this evening happened to be the 66,666th one on this here discussion board.

I was in the middle of posting this long (and boring...even to me) story about how I don't believe in unlucky numbers and when I went to post, I lost the whole thing.  Well (a Ragtime reference).  I was then going to go on to say that I had faked a screen capture of the 66,666 moment because it's pretty easy to do, and here it is.  This is exactly what it would look like if I had gotten it for real:

As I mentioned yesterday, the State Fair pictures are done. We now have a lovely shot of Anthony, one of my sisters and me celebrating the 100th Year of the Ice Cream Cone at Dairy Queen. Yummm!

I'm listening to AccuRadio right now. When I left the house at 5:55 am I forgot the CDs I had set aside (I did remember my banana for the oatmeal). I have a few CDs here at the office, Julie and Carol at Lincoln Center which we recently transferred, Wicked, the first CD of Kiss Me Kate from 1990, not the Rhino re-release with the extras, the score to Disney's Aladdin, another recent LP to CD transfer, 'S Wonderful, 'S Marvelous, 'S Gershwin (a 1971 NBC Bell Family Theatre television special w/Jack Lemmon, Fred Astaire, Leslie Uggams, Peter Nero, Larry Kert and others), the score to Reds (an underrated movie IMHO), Side Show, Plain and Fancy, the 1991 Assassins, a Blossom Dearie CD from 1951, a Dave Frishberg compilation,  all 3 Kritzer CDs, and Gwen Verdon's Sweet Charity (the original, not the re-release with the extras) so I guess I do have something to listen to.

My, my, my (that's 3 mys) this has turned into a long post. I will now update my Virus program according to the instructions provided by our IT department.

Later, gaters.

I won't yet mention the CD I've been listening to, because it's the answer to this timely trivia question:

Name the song (and the musical it's from) that includes "Yom Kippur" in its lyrics. (Bonus: What rhymes with "Yom Kippur"?)

The weather in Toronto has been summery - minus the humidity.

I just finished reading "The Perks of Being A Wallflower" and I could not put it down. It is a wonderful book, but as of yet I can't really put into words what I feel about it yet. My mind is still racing and trying to wrap itself around what this book truly means.  It may be considered a book for high school kids, but it has lessons that we all can learn. Definately a recommended read.

The Media Check of Me:

CD Player (at home):  A Little Night Music, original cast recording.  Just because...

CD Player (at work):  Green Day--American Idiot.  Finally!  Some decent rock music!

DVD Player:  Nothing, but I plan to crack open the Lost In Space Season Two set this weekend.

VHS:  I taped Lost and B'way's Lost Treasures II, which I've yet to see in it's entirety.

DR Dan-In-Toronto;  I told you you were funny yesterday (or was it the day before?), but the two jokes you posted yesterday really made me laugh.

DR Panni:  OK, we thought our Morgan was totally delicious as a puppy, but your Abie was truly scrumptious (ooh, a CCBB reference).  I LOVE that picture!  Perhaps you can get him a job as the Jester in the all-dog company of ONCE UPON A MATTRESS!  (Or has he graduated to Wizard or Septimus, due to age?)

DR Noel:  I will be interested to hear what you think of GOD OR MERMAN.  I saw it when they were here in Rochester last year.  Are they part of the NAMT Festival, or the "Other" New Musical Festival?  (I used to be active in NAMT when I was at CAMI...in fact, I co-chaired their Commissions Committee for a time.)

Media Check:
CD/Car:  Broken (it's one of those Discmen that I hook up through the tape deck), so I am listening to an old tape I made that includes COCO and GOLDILOCKS.
CD/Office: And the World Goes 'Round (Yes, I am still in mourning)  (oooh, almost a THREE SISTERS reference)
VCR:  Last night's Survivor and Apprentice for the Dear Partner.  (I vowed not to get involved in either of those ever again....)
DVD: Empty

BTW (by the way, in internet lingo), the reason I was taping things for the Dear Partner is that he had rehearsal last night, as he is essaying the role of M. Lindsay Woolsey in Pittsford Musicals production of MAME.  Not he greatest role (he played Older Patrick the last time they did it, 20 years ago or so), but he is now in that in between stage where he is too old for Older Patrick, and too young for Babcock.  And let's face it, who cares about the men in MAME, right?

I won't yet mention the CD I've been listening to, because it's the answer to this timely trivia question:

Name the song (and the musical its from) that includes "Yom Kippur" in its lyrics. (Bonus: What rhymes with "Yom Kippur"?)

The Zulu and the Zayde?

The Bar Mitzvah Boy?

Falsettos? (I am pretty sure it's not this one....)

Milk and Honey?

Funny Girl?  (I KNOW it's not this one....)

Hello, Solly?

The Borscht Capades?

(Yes, those two were both actual shows.....)

Yidl mitn fidl?

Tintypes?

The Golden Land?

Amongst a college friend and I, the answer to your rhyme query would be "Big Dipper" (but it had a totally different connotation.....).   And whatever it is, it has to be better than the SUNSET BLVD kosher/brochure rhyme.

DR Ben: Reading about your recent LP to CD transfers of JULIE AND CAROL AT LINCOLN CENTER and S'WONDERFUL, S'MARVELOUS, S'GERSHWIN reminded me that those two specials faced off against each other at the 1971 Emmys with the Gershwin special (and its star Jack Lemmon) taking home the award.

As much as I enjoyed that special, I have to say I was heartbroken that night that JULIE AND CAROL AT LINCOLN CENTER didn't win. At that point, Julie Andrews had not won an Emmy after being nominated several times for previous specials and guest appearances, and I SO wanted her and Carol to carry home the Emmy that night. (Carol had already won several times.)

Most ironic, Julie twice went to the podium to accept Emmys that night but not for herself. Glenda Jackson won two Emmys that year for ELIZABETH R , and Julie was her designated acceptor. What bitter irony!

Of course, Julie won the Emmy the next season for her magnificent variety series. Still, I have fond memories of that second Julie and Carol special, and I love that soundtrack.

DVD - Although I have many movies to watch, I can't stop watching classic video: "The Gary Moore Show" (4 segments from the daytime show and a complete episode of the evening show).  This is a performer who seems to be forgotten today.  The daytime show was nothing special (but one segment did feature the comedy team of James Kirkwood, subsequent author of A CHORUS LINE and PS YOUR CAT IS DEAD and Lee Goodman, later the voice of Ralston-Purina for years).  The evening show, though was a classic, with Carol Burnett at her best and guest stars Robert Goulet (then on Broadway in CAMELOT), Bob Newhart and Julie London.

I also saw 4 episodes of MEDIC, a show I had never watched (nor had many people) because it was on NBC at the same time CBS had I LOVE LUCY.  Richard Boone was supposedly the star, but all he did in the episodes I saw was to narrate.  The show was really more of an educational drama about cancer, manic-depression, etc. with a disease of the week, and featured such actors as Charles Bronson, Lee J. Cobb, King Donovan and Vera Miles.  An interesting period piece, but if they have a volume 2 I'll skip it.

CD - 2 Frank Loesser compilations that were recently released, one by Cleo Laine and the other by Andrea Marcovici.  There are very few song duplications, and along with the BK-produced Liz Callaway Loesser, they give a good overview of the man's career.  Also, the recently released live recording of BROADWAY BY THE YEAR 1960 featuring the only person to be considered an HHW God without ever posting to the site: BRENT BARRETT.

VHS - Nothing

Book - I started reading the Inge biography.  I find it very interesting that for a man who was troubled by his homosexuality his entire life the first chapter features three pictures of a 10-year-old Inge in full drag.

Stuart,

I just forced myself to listen again. I imagine the lyricist got it right, but it sounds like the singer is saying:

Yun Kipper.

So "dipper" would work as the rhyme - but it ain't the answer.

Not "stripper." But that's a better answer than the real one. And not Yidl mitn Fidl (or any of your other good tries).

From an interview with Joseph Green, who directed Yidl mitn Fidl:

"I wanted to make a folktale about Jewish life in Poland. When you talk about folklore, you talk about song. So I decided to make a musical folk film. As the star, Molly Picon was the first name that came to mind.... Konrad Tom, the head of a political-satirical theater in Warsaw, came to me with a story about four musicians who played in marketplaces and at weddings. At one wedding, the bride cries because her family is poor and she has to marry an old farmer. So the musicians steal her. Molly Picon was not suited to play the bride, so I changed one of the musicians into a girl who is wandering with her father. Because it's hard to travel with a girl, she dresses as a boy. This became "Yidl Mitn Fidl," my first Yiddish film."

Matt H, I have fond memories of Julie and Carol at Lincoln Center also. I love the end sequence, Wait Till the Sun Shines, Nellie. Just listening to it makes me smile again. Putting the Gershwin Special up against Julie and Carol just highlights the difficulty of choosing a "winner" or the "better" of the two. I enjoyed both of them so much but I think for me to choose one over the other is difficult.

I posted a short reveiw last weekend about a show I saw at Playwrights Horizons. Well, it's nice to know I'm not all alone in the world. Although critical response doesn't usually determine whether I will see a show, I read the review of the Playwrights show (People Be Heard) in the NY Times today and was happy to see that most of what I said was also said by the reviewer (Charles Isherwood - recently moved over from Variety to the Times). As I mentioned, the audience I was with loved the show and I kept thinking, "What am I missing?" At least one other person felt the same way.

Had a wonderful telephone conversation last night with Mr. William Reynolds (who most DRs will remember from ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS where he played Jane Wyman's rather spoiled college age son). We are finishing up some changes on his interview before I send it in to the publisher and we got to talking about his days at Universal and Warner Bros.

He has such fond memories of his career and the people he worked with...he had a funny story about Barbara Stanwyck's disappoval of his being late one day to the set of THERE'S ALWAYS TOMORROW...after that he was never late again!! LOL! She was rather intimidating...but nice!

DR Stuart,

Not "Flipper," but keep trying.

I was going to tell this one yesterday - another story about Torontonians and Jewishisms.

Quite a few years ago, Joseph Green, the director of Yidl mitn Fidl, was in Toronto as part of a tribute to his movies.

Our CBC prides itself on being really fussy about pronunciations - and sometimes even goes a bit overboard. But once in awhile the announcers screw up.

One of Joseph Green's most celebrated movies was Mamele (means "little mother," and is pronounced "ma-ma-la"). I was listening to CBC radio's Metro Morning, as its serious host, Joe Coté, interviewed the director.

"So, Mr. Green," Joe asked him, "what does "mameeeeel" mean?"

The poor director didn't have a clue.

I'm home today because I slept wrong (wrongly?) and my back hurts a bit.

So, in my CD player at work:  nothing.

In my VCR:  nothing...last night I watched everything that I taped last night while watching other things.

In my DVD player:  "Party Monster:  The Shockumentary."  According to Netflix (where I got it) "This sometimes-gruesome-but-engrossing documentary, a 1998 Sundance Film Festival entry, traces the path that club-kid-gone-bad Michael Alig followed as he metamorphosed from being one of New York's most famous party promoters to a drug-addled murderer. Includes a prison interview with Alig....  I have the movie "Party Monster" with Macaulay Culkin and Seth Green and wanted to know what the real story is.  The movie's pretty accurate...and it's scary what some people can do.

In my CD burner:  this morning I taped a radio interview from St. Louis with Janis Siegel of The Manhattan Transfer!  I also called in and was on the radio!!    I got to talk with Janis!!  Okay, it was only about 30 seconds, but still!  After the interview with Janis, they had a segment on the touring company of Forbidden Broadway that was playing in town.  So I'm going to cut out the commercials and put it on a CD.  That's what in my CD burner!

Good Morning!

Ah, sleep.  It was so nice to sleep - well, at least to get more than four hours of it last night.  However, my "waking" this morning was a bit amusing in retrospect.

Around 6:00am, I started hearing someone's really loud radio.  It was tuned to some morning shock jock - not Howard Stern but some L.A. person - ??.  I just stayed in bed listening to this rant go on and on... and on (ah, a BABY reference).  "Who has their radio turned up so loud?!?!?"  Well... A few minutes go by, and a small light bulb goes off in my head.  I walk down the hall to the bedroom - which is empty right now since they moved the major furniture yesterday - and, sure enough, there's a clock radio sitting there on the floor.  The "alarm" had gone off.  And since it was playing in an empty room, it had quite the "ambience" to it.  So, I turn it off, and head back to the living where I'm sleeping - there's a nice air mattress on the floor.  As soon as I get settled, I hear another alarm go off... "beep, beep, beep..."  It was my travel alarm in my bag - It was still set from the other morning when I had to get up early.  Ah....

Thankfully, I made it back to bed, and got a few more hours of sleep...  After getting up - again - I watched some TV, organized some papers, checked some stuff on-line, made some phone calls, and now I'm here...  And now I must get ready to head out for a bit...

But before I go...

DR Jane - I've had a few bouts with back pain over the past few years due to my sciatica...  Give the muscle relaxers a try.  I was put on a very mild - very mild - one a few years ago which helped a lot.  And in conjunction with Advil or Aleve, it really did provide just the right amount of comfort without zonking me out.  See if your doctor is willing to "stage" you in regards to muscle relaxers.  Just have him start you on something very, very mild, and go from there.  -Although, hopefully, like a lot of back pain episodes, it's just an "episode", and it may just go away on it's own in time.

*And just remember, if you do take larger doses of Advil or Aleve, be sure to have food in your stomach.  Otherwise, you could end up dealing with other problems.  -I was on prescription strength ibuprofen once - one pill was equivalent to four(!) of the OTC pills!  Who knew?!?!?

The not-so-brilliant lyrics were by someone who also wrote the lyrics for one of the shows on DR Stuart's list of contenders.

CD Player here at work:  The Big Voice:  God or Merman?  So I am particularly interested in DR Noel's impressions, if he managed to snare that ticket for tonight's show, that is.  I have seen neither of Steve Schalchlin's shows, but I have been fascinated by him ever since he started posting his T-cell count back in the last century.

Hmmmmmm...I'm a bit sorry it wasn't from WATERLOGGED myself......

Can I openly and honestly state that I have never thought much of Mr. Merrill as a lyricist?  Certainly he has some bright spots, but probably just as many clunkers.  ("We travel single, oh."   I mean, what IS that??)  I've never thought much of his musical compositions either, I guess.

But thanks for the answer, finally.  My mind had been racing, and though I do own HSH, I don't listen it to it often enough to have committed it to memory.

There are some good meds for pulled muscles if that is what you have. When I hurt my shoulder at the gym the doctor gave me something that helped wonderfully. It didn't drug me up or anything, but it sure made my shoulder stop hurting!

I find Bob Merrill's work inconsistent. There are some songs I truly enjoy in HSH - particularly "In Some Little World," "Here I Am," and "I Wonder How It Is." But "To Be Artistic"? How could the man who wrote "Her Face," "Promise Me A Rose," and "The Music That Makes Me Dance" have come up with:

"Men kiss men when they're artistic
In admiration for a fellow man
But could you guess
What a bloody mess
If a Green Bay Packer kissed a Ram"

I like the wistfulness of "Do You Ever Go to Boston?" in HSH.

But, c'mon, DR DiT:

I know he's around
when the sky and the ground
start enringing

WHAT??

In my book, if the sky and the ground started enringing each other  (or SOMETHING, at least!) you'd be in the eye of a cyclone!  Now that may be a image of love for some, but not for me.  (oooh, a Gershwin reference!)  Some of his other lyrics in that score are....unfelicitious, at best.

Don't get me wrong.....I LOVE "The Music That Makes Me Dance."  I just think the lyrics are not it best asset.

With ER coming on here on Thursdays at 10pm, and the Sopranos Sunday at 10pm, I was just about to post and ask what had happened to Nip/Tuck.

We don't get the F/X network, so I have to watch Nip/Tuck on CTV (that also shows the other 2 shows I mentioned).

Anyhow I'm not sure when you guys in the US get to see the last 3 episodes of N/T.  But I just checked the CTV sched and it says: Thurs Sept 30th, Tues oct 5, and fri oct 8th (all at 10pm).

If anybody saw last week's show, was it the one with the incestuous kissing scene.  How did I know that was going to happen? :)

What the frell is a "moving pod"?

And speaking of "frelling" -- REJOICE "Farscape" fans, for the series returneth with "Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars" on SciFi in the very near future!

Perplexed I am.

Car CD player: Babes in Arms, the release with Jason Graae looking very young and cute in his cast photo.

DVD Players: Der Brucer has stolen the copy of Murder on the Orient Express we just picked up, for playing on the DVD player in his room.  I will have to content myself with the first season of Night Gallery, or one of the Hitchcock Signature collection, or the Darth Lucas versions of the Star Wars trilogy.  (Enough to keep me busy for a while).

(This piling on of DVDs was a result of der Brucer having to get a Graphing Calculator, because DR Jenny (who is doing quite well) will be using one in her math classes this year and der B is trying to keep up with her, just so she'll have someone with whom to discuss her homework.  While he was getting the calculator, I browsed the DVD shelves, and one thing led to another and another and another...)

SciFi Channel splits the seasons of it's shows into smaller parts, I think in order to keep the material fresh and to keep from competing too heavily with the broadcast networks.  Fresh shows in the summer, fresh shows in the winter.  (Or you can collect them on DVD.)

Don't feel like crap.  It's not your fault, nor the fault of your cast.

Question: When MTI pulls this kind of cancellation, do they at least try to help find a different show to produce?  Or would that be asking too much?

Hmmm.  I've been watching SciFi Channel religiously for 11 years.  It has always been my experience that they've aired complete seasons (i.e, 18-22 shows) before announcing the "end" of a season.

"Stargate SG1" and "Stargate Atlantis" debuted last month.  And now they've been announced as having come to the end of their season.  I don't believe more than five episodes of either show aired.

In all the years "Stargate" has been on SciFi, they've shown a complete season (at least 18-20 episodes) before announcing the "end" of the season.  This was also true of all series, including "FarScape" and "The Outer Limits".

Unless of course I've been sucked into some space-time continuum where things are done differently....

DR RLP, I thought I described the pod the other day when I first mentioned it. It's an 8' X 16' storage unit that is delivered to your home. You fill it full for moving, and then the company comes and takes it to the storage facility in the city closest to where you live. You pay regular storage rates until you're ready to have it delivered to where you're finally moving (house-wise). Can't tell you more than than. It was a new concept for me, too, but seems like a wonderful idea.

DVD - Criterion release of MAURICE with lots of extras and a great widescreen presentation - enhanced for those of you who need it.

CD - David Pascucci sings Previn, Valley of the Dolls & Inside Daisy Clover.  Well - less than thirty minutes of music, and NOT a good album, but nice to have some of the songs.  Steven Applegate (producer, arranger, orchestrator, and conductor - and I guess he also made the coffee) uses some electronic gimmick at the end of each song wherein David is singing with himself or against himself...anyway it doesn't work...so I can't recommend the album or the singer.  But it's mine now, I own it!

VCR - HOW TO STUFF A WILD BIKINI!

I've also been listening to BBC4 and BBC7...My Music, Boothby Graffoe, The 99p Challenge, Just A Minute...

Good Afternoon!

Whew!  I ended up doing a bit more trekking today than I thought I would, but, in turn, I ended up getting a lot done.  Of course, most of it was shopping, but now I have souvenirs and gifts for my family - especially for my nieces and nephews.  -My niece, Alyssa turned two yesterday, and I'll be home in time on Sunday to attend her birthday party! :)  And I picked up some Filipino Greatest Hits type CDs for my parents.  Oh, and a box or two of See's Candies at the Beverly Center.  *DR Panni, the guy at the counter said he had some more free samples for you! ;)  -And what a "monstrosity" that Beverly Center is... It took me a while to figure out how to get out of there without ending up in the Macy's Men's Store again.

Now, I'm just waiting for my brother to come by, and we'll be heading to dinner before the show.

William Reynold's didn't say exactly what it was the Babs said to him...she just indicated that she was not pleased that he was late on the set (although he thought he had a very good excuse at the time) and that a professional actor is never late (he was all of 22 at the time, I think).

Divarobbie I’m sorry your show was cancelled and best of vibes finding a new one.  It is nice you are also concerned about the cast.

Bogie was given fluids and we were told to give him flavorless, sugarless Metamucil.  All we could find was regular which we purchased.  We hope it is the same as flavorless.  If nothing happens tonight Bogie will have to return to the doctor tomorrow.

I also got a prescription for Robaxin, but the pharmacy gave me the generic methocarbamol.  I looked up the side effects and am now afraid to take it.  I will try the lowest dose tonight.

I stayed home from work because my back hurt (a little) when I woke up.  I have a whole bunch of sick leave (about 900 hours), so I decided to use some of it.  I know it's nothing like you've been suffering, Jane.  I really do wish you the Best Healing Vibes!!

Enjoyed LOST IN LA MANCHA. I'm sure we've all experienced situations where one bad thing after another happened until something was just canceled. Reminds me of DR divarobbie's situation somewhat.

Sorry to say tonight's MEDICAL INVESTIGATION revealed the show as a second tier drama. The medical mystery portions of the show are as good as any, but the characters are straight out of drama 101: newbie doctor doing the wrong thing that ends up harming a child (he thought he was doing a good deed, natch!), doctors stumbling onto the source of the problem.

Tomorrow night I'm attending a local production of YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN. This is one of the shows I auditioned for some weeks ago and didn't get it. It's the revised version of the show which I've never seen, so I'm anxious to see how the people who were cast do with the material and to see the new portions of the book which were added to that last Broadway revival..

Hmmmmmmm......DRJAY a regular photograph would be lovely.  I have photos of her homes in Washington DC and San Clemente in a nice frame and I could add a few of the North Orange Grove Av bungalow to them.

I would be happy to pay for film and processing.....but not the trespassing ticket you get if they wonder what you are doing.  They might not even be aware that they are living in the home of a BIG (in fact a 50-foot tall celebrity!) - and that knowledge I am sure would fascinate them!

Speaking of the title of today's notes....

all those many years ago when we rushed to see BYE BYE BIRDIE! at the drive in....and they sang that song

At the end Birdie (Jesse Pearson) sang what we was sure was a BAD word never heard on the screen....we listened closely, bought the record...and thought HE SAID IT!!!

He sings: "Let's kick this hick town into High!"

But we were sure he sang the "s" word and NOT "hick".....whew!

Good Evening!

Back from the show... And a very good show it was tonight!  We were technically Sold Out, but once the lights came up, I did notice a couple of empty seats.  Ah, well... We had a very good audience, and even had some "repeaters" in the audience - meaning, this was their second time seeing the show.

DR Pogue was their with his DW Julieanne.

DR PennyO even ended up showing up tonight!  *I feel a little bad for not being able to spend more time with her after the show...  But it was great finally getting to meet her even if it was just for a few moments.  We'll have to get together in NYC, DR PennyO!

My brother, Jay, had a wonderful time.  And he even got most of the "in" jokes.  -I'll have to thank my Mom for dragging all four boys to the theatre every now and then when we were kids.  It was also nice catching up with my brother too.  His move down to San Diego seems to be agreeing with him, and it turns out he is now making a lot more money in his job, and he actually works less than he did before.  Score!  It also turned out that his new boss is a former grade school/high school classmate and family friend.  We had a nice dinner before the show, and we even checked out the West Hollywood Target just for kicks since we had some time before heading to the theatre.  He had to head back right after the show since he has to be at work tomorrow at 7:00am(!), but with the way he drives, he'll probably be back in San Diego in about two hours(!!!!).  -He was estimating it would take him about an hour and 45 minutes... and since I did the drive with last year, he'll probably make that time.

Another professional colleague of mine also came tonight.  Barbara was/is the show director for Universal Studios, and I met her last year when I was here.  She's also a producer (Rent, Avenue Q, among others) - and she's helped me get house seats from time to time for shows in NYC. :)  We have a bunch of mutual friends, and we'll be lunching tomorrow at Chin-Chin to talk the talk and dish the dirt.  I can't wait!  Oh, and she loved the show!  And she also brought her friend, Kirby Tepper - who happens to know BK!.

So, all in all, a very good day, and a very nice evening.  I was actually a little worried right before the show began when I heard that the show was sold out.  I wanted to make sure my brother could get in.  -Thank You, No-Shows!  I also started feeling a little funny stomach-wise, but it all settled down by the time I stepped out on stage.  Whew!

And as I get ready for my last full day in L.A... And my last performance of What If? (at least for this run, fingers-crossed)...

Did you get some See's, DR Panni?

DR DivaRobbie - MTI licenses a very nice "alternate" version of ONCE ON THIS ISLAND.  There are options for expanding the cast, and also for making the subject a bit more universal, so to speak.  There's actually some nice variations in it.

I did the show a few years ago with a Teen Summer Theatre Camp that was open to "regular" kids as well as those with special needs (physical and mental).  Our Ti Moune was deaf.  And her signing was absolutely beautiful and moving.  -And this "device" also allowed us to cast a "singing Ti Moune".  Consequently, the whole social class issue became one of the hearing world vs. the non-hearing world.  There was never a dry eye in the house.

DRJOSE is so right!

I have found that signing a song (if not most of them) adds a new element to a scene or show that is difficult to describe.....it's a feeling that something new is happening.....you are "hearing" the song for the first time, no matter how many times you have listened to it.
"Seeing" a song is a VERY emotional experience!

AAA?

*It is dead-dead?  Or is there enough juice in it to get it jump-started so you can drive your car to the shop?  You may want to try it again in the morning.  I've had two car batteries die in the summer, and the heat contributes to it's demise.  However, if you're able to get to the battery before the temperature of the day heats up, then you may be able to jump it.  Now, if you're battery is bulging, then it's probably best to let it be.

Believe me, if I'm gonna sing in front of folks, I want an accompanist like our Jose. Honeyboy, if I do my show off-B'way this spring, will ya please play for me???

The cast was uniformly terrific, great ensemble work, wonderful choreography. Alet has one of the best voices I've ever heard. The Kimmel original songs are so welcome in there among the parodies, and Charles and I just floated out of there. Nothing like huge laughs to get yer endorphins zipping around. Thanks, Bruce, for such a lovely evening.

Okay, tired, gonna go to bed now. Visions of wackiness rampant in my dream-zone. Hahahahahahaaaaa!!!

I saw the Deaf West Theatre production of Big River here in L.A. before it went to Broadway, and I have to agree.  I thought the signing was balletic, and added a whole new layer of interpretation to the score.

I am eating an ice cream sandwich.

Today at the vet we found out that Holly the Zaftig ShaR-Pei  has lost ONE pound.

And the vet gave me his copy of September's DOG FANCY magazine that has a Shar-Pei on the cover and many lovely photos inside.  They are lovely dogs....with some health problems.....but I don't know if I could own another breed now.  The blue/grey Shar-Peis are beautiful....the cream coloreds are also lovely.  Holly is fawn/carmel with black tipped ears....

Hehehehe.  And of course they all have the regulation BLACK tongue...LOL.

How would that title be translated into Hungarian?

I don't know anything "naughty" in Hungarian. When I was a young actress (in my early 20's) a veteran Hungarian actor with whom I was in a play decided that it was his mission in life to teach me all the dirty Hungarian words I'd missed out on. He did his best, but as I never used them before, after or since, they came in one ear and out the other - so to speak.
Maybe signing is the answer...

Or how about a front page from the day you were born?

Might take me a bit to print and scan, but first person to give me his birthdate will get a newspaper front page from that date....

GO!

You think I'd fall for that cheap trick to reveal my age?! I wasn't born yesterday, my friend. (That's for SURE.) This baby is 39 and holding.

Hmm... Ice Cream!  Banana Split flavor - it's one of those boxed pints from Walgreen's - which is just around the corner.  Not bad for drug store brand ice cream.  Banana ice cream with mixed fruit and a fudge swirl.

Now, if I wanted a hot dog... The busses continue to run up and down La Brea every 15 minutes during the overnight hours... And since Pink's is open until 3:00AM... Hmm...

-It's a thought, but I'm in for the evening.  Besides, I think I'm still full from the two chili-cheese dogs I had the other day. :X

-Oh, after watching the weather on the news earlier, I'm glad I'm flying home Sunday morning, rather than on Monday like I was originally planning...  It seems Jeanne may be interfering with flight plans along the eastern seaboard Monday-Wednesday...

IMHO Sunday is always a better day to fly, Jose. Not as much traffic to and from the airport, for one thing.

I have nothing interesting at all to add.  I'm too tired to think.  Is that a crime (a Bells Are Ringing reference).

-And, as I mentioned earlier, I'll be home in time for my niece, Alyssa's, birthday party.  *And I bought her a doll earlier at the Filipino store - it's kind of like a Barbie, but she's dressed in traditional Filipino garb.  It's actually quite beautiful  -Most likely, it will stay in the box, and put on display.  However, I also bought some children's book which are both in Tagalog and English so that the grandparents can read to her. :)
