Title: SNAZZLE AND SNIZ

Well, you've read the notes, the notes lacked but then had snazzle and sniz, and now it is time for you to post until the snazzle and sniz cows come home.

Well, rehearsal last night went really well.  We got through the show in about 2 1/2 hours (which is a long time, but it'll tighten up) and I left at about 11:30.  Tomorrow is our last rehearsal without an audience.  Wednesday is our invited final dress and then we open on Thursday!  I'm glad it'll finally be up on its feet and running. :)

And about the sent messages check box thing from yesterday...I now realize that I'd never noticed that before because it must have always been checked.  I've always had my messages to into my sent items folder.

Good morning, all! The temperatures have dropped and we're back to the 30s after several days in the 50s and 60s. I'm ready for some cold, now that my bed's been winterized, although I admit I prefer going to therapy in shorts rather than wearing them under my trousers: too much layering.

So, I'm still on the Fandangos and their loooooong dance, If that full score weren't such a mess, I would be finished.  At noon, I will meet Joshie at the Lincoln Center library and we will compare the scores we have with Ted Royal's original orchestrations.

BK, I saw at least two of my favorite songs on your program: "Winter Was Warm," which I have loved since the first broadcast of "Mr Magoo's Christmas Carol," and "Penny By Penny," which I scored for UNSUNG MUSICALS III.

This weekend I listened to the two sets of the Billboard Christmas hits: "Grandna Got Run Over By A Reindeer" still makes me laugh, but I will never like that moronic "Little Drummer Boy."

Thanks.  Does the series end with book 3?  If so do you suggest I finish reading them?

No there is a book four that is supposed to be the final book in the series.

I don't know how much you liked book one.  All the books are similar (multiple 3rd person narrators with very complicated terminology).  I enjoyed book 3. But found it took a lot of concentration.  Many of the books I read are much easier reads.  I find the story extremely interesting (especially the last 100 pages in book 3).

Re: the new Annie movie.

i will see it when it comes out on dvd.

I feel like for a remake you need to have an Annie who is a star. Not necessarily a name although that would have been good. But just someone who has huge star quality.

The Macy's number was horrible. The girl did not stand out at all.

But the Dancing With the Stars number was quite good.  I am curious if that was completely different choreography from what is in the movie.  Because I really enjoyed that choreography.

Best Buy makes it difficult to make a purchase sometimes. I've got an appointment later this evening so I will go to a different Best Buy before I go to see if I can get the tablet I've been trying to get since yesterday. They still have the sale price but at the store yesterday there were no tablets and no interest in seeing if more tablets existed in the back store room. If they had made an effort they would have taken in over $300 (from a gift card) but since they can't be bothered if I can't do it tonight, I'll try Staples tomorrow.

TOD:

For me, it's more about the singing and the arrangement than the song itself.

For that reason, "This Christmas" is an ideal album, and I'm not just saying that.  I also like me some Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Julie London (wait, do I have any Christmas singing of hers? I'll have to look), and surely others who I'm brain dead on thinking of right now.  I find the "Christmas Cocktails" types of albums great for the lighthearted and novel arrangements.

Yesterday I watched HAVE ROCKET WILL TRAVEL.  I don't know why I love that movie so much.  It is really stupid, but I always enjoy it.

Apparently the visitor visit was supposed to be tomorrow.  I am officially senile.  Then I went to the motor car - battery dead as a doornail.  I called the dealer, who put a new battery in a little over a year ago, so it's still under warranty.  I told them I could not get towed that far and would replace it here and they'd have to reimburse - they asked me to wait, so there's a possibility that they'll come here with a new battery.  Then I'll take the car in on Friday and get a loaner so they can thoroughly check out why a battery would go bad (the second time it's happened) in that short a period of time.  They're supposed to call me.  Meantime, the noon lunch meeting is now a bit later and they're coming here to get me and I guess we'll go to the restaurant I was trying like HELL to avoid - Jerry's.  I'm so sick of it but it's convenient.  I really wanted The Smoke House today.  Maybe I'll just have a cup of soup and then make Wacky Noodles later - maybe not.  Irritating, this entire morning and all I want now is to go back to bed - that will depend on the battery situation and whether they come here or I have to get jumped so I can go to the service station nearby.  Of course it's now really raining so all this becomes even more irritating.

No, truck is still there.  Maybe he's moved in with them.  And he's parked in such a way that there's no way to get into the space between his truck and one of their other cars that's been there for a year.  That one they move every now and then.

I don't like the idea that you're taking a show based on a specific comic strip and a different time and modernizing it but still calling it the same thing.  It isn't the same thing. Why hijack someone else's creativity? Why not create a new story or modernize it but don't still call it Annie and use the same songs.   i don't even want to get started on this or I'll get really politically incorrect.  I just wish people would either stick to the original concept and script or make up their own story.

I feel the same way regarding novels that hijack a classic and write a newish story with one the characters in the original.  I know others like it but I don't.

My morning, on the other hand, was quite okay ... until this happened:

A few of you might remember that I posted about losing our beloved vet, Dr. Tom Nero, who had died suddenly of a heart attack a year and a half ago.  He had founded and guided the wonderful Cat Clinic of Danbury, and fortunately for all of us, his wife searched and searched and finally found the doctor she felt would best replace him.  And that new doctor, Dr. Mille, was indeed a lovely person.  I got to speak with him a few times during the past year, and there was never any question that she'd made the right choice.

Well, I just went down there to pick up something and received the news in person:  Dr. Mille died suddenly of a heart attack on the day after Thanksgiving.

Because I didn't get to know Dr. Mille nearly to extent that we'd grown to know and love Dr. Nero, this is not quite the sad personal loss as that was.  And yet, it is.  It's still a punch in the gut to Cat Clinic, its families and employees, and to cat lovers in the community.

The promised Ted Royal full scores for PAINT YOUR WAGON do not exisr at NYPL. What they have is a great many of the song copies and dance arrangements he worked from. It was fun to look at them all, especially the cut songs, but it was of no real use to Joshie and me. We had a good time visiting with several librarians, and I enjoyed that.

I don't really want to give this Q50 back.  I'd do an even trade :).  I thought there was something wrong with it - I could press the door button and lock it fine, but when I pressed it to open it just kept locking.  Found out the deal: With this model, or probably all the new Infinitis, the door unlocks automatically when you approach it.  I LIKE THAT.  It likes me, it really likes me.  It's got all toys that you'd ever want and I think I'll test out its sound system with the Sandy CD.  They tell me my car could be ready by tomorrow, but if it's after rush hour, I'll just get it Thursday morning.

Tuesday evening greetings!  After much deliberation this morning, I decided to brave the threat of freezing rain and go to Dayton for lunch with my grantwriter friends.  I saw no precipitation whatsoever and had a delightful time.

Don't tell your mother :)

Oh, my goodness!  That's terrible for both vets...and the Cat Clinic. :(

Yesterday DR Jane asked re: Maggie Stiefvater's new book
Quote

Thanks.  I enjoyed it ok.  I have so many books to read I am trying to limit the number of series I do read and doubt I will continue with this if it is never-ending;)

It is ending. With book 4 as planned.

I'm so frustrated with my cable TV service. I picked up a new DVR box the other day and I recorded some programs.  When I try to play them I get a message saying " We're sorry. This program is currently unavailable."  I'd never seen that message before with my other DVRs.  I called the cable company and they rebooted or whatever you call it and it still doesn't work.  So a repair person will be coming Friday.

I have plenty of series to read, I just want to reduce them. It is a way of having fewer books in my reading queue.

I have two books to read by Tuesday which normally wouldn't be a problem except I also have a house to clean.  I got up early this morning and did laundry all day.  Now I am looking at a lot of ironing and thinking "my poor shoulder".  There is so much I hate to leave it until after our company leaves.

Yesterday I watched HAVE ROCKET WILL TRAVEL.  I don't know why I love that movie so much.  It is really stupid, but I always enjoy it.

I must remember to tell Vixmom NOT to ever watch it.  I had forgotten that when the Stooges get to Venus, they get chased around the planet by a fire-breathing "S" word.

whew!  I read your post just in time === crisis averted!

I think a nice hot shower would be good right about now.  I did go to Gelson's earlier and got some melon balls and chicken noodle soup to snack on.  And I just happened to buy all the ingredients for Wacky Noodles, so tomorrow may just be another Wacky Noodles day.

Post by: bk on December 02, 2014, 11:13:38 PM
I had the nice hot shower, got into a little casting discussion with one of our authors, whose mind is far too tunnel-visioned for me.  This is a brand new production and I'm bringing brand new energy to this show, and I'm casting it the way I see fit, which is to occasionally veer off from the way they've done it before.  One of the authors understands and appreciates that, the other is stubborn.  I've tried nicely to explain that stubbornness doesn't work.  One of the things I wanted to do was have one character be much younger than written - I wanted that energy in the show instead of six women who are all basically the same age.  So, that's the way we're casting that role.  But there's another role and I had an idea for it that I thought was very intriguing for various reasons.  One of our authors doesn't think her voice is right for this particular role - my point is, really?  How do you know WHAT she'd sound like.  Understand, this girl is absolutely terrific - and she probably won't want to do Waiver theater so I'm sure it's a moot point.  But I will not put blinders on visually or aurally for any role because then you're just stuck with what's been done before and you all know I am NOT about that.
