Good morning, all!  I am back to Toyland this morning, and I will hopefully send off all of the Moross notes to my copyist.  the weather, according to the news, is really lousy out, but i can't see a thing.  I hope it's not too lousy when I head down.

Following that, I will visit my old friend Jim Wlhelm of the DGRW Agency in midtown before I head home.

Good morning, all.

Some more incredible dream stuff and nonsense.  Herbert Lom as a grizzled four-footer?  I mean in height, not in how he got around.  But really.  It's been a full week of creations to boggle the mind.

I could not get on the inner web until this morning.....but I did watch MOST of the Golden Globes.....I am okay with most of the winners....and it was a pretty good show.

I liked it that MOST of the presenters did NOT try to be funny.....of those that did, only a couple of them were successful.

Kriten Wiig and Bill Hader were awful.....

Tina and Amy were okay, but not great.

I was delighted that BOYHOOD, THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL and FARGO did well.

TOD:

I don't think I've had many different kinds of casseroles. I can only remember the most obvious, tuna casserole, which I always really liked. I think the only other thing that my mom used to make that came close to a casserole was shepherd's pie, which I really loved, especially the way she made it. You see, my mom and I both hate peas, so she made it with green beans instead. If I go to a restaurant and ask if I can have the shepherd's pie without the peas, the answer is always "no" because it's always pre-made - very annoying.

I liked the Golden Globes. I usually love Tina and Amy, but just thought that they were okay.  I haven't seen most of the movies.  And many of the tv shows are not ones I watch or have even heard of.  I wish there were more awards for shows that aren't on cable.

My favorite winner was Anna from Downton Abbey. I love how surprised and happy she was.

Mom made a lot of cream o' casseroles when I was growing up. You know, take a can of cream o' (fill in the blank) soup, add more carbs and a little meat. I generally liked all of them. But I can't eat that anymore because of the carbs and my diabetes.

When I moved to Texas, I discovered King Ranch casserole with chicken, tortillas, cheddar cheese and green chiles. Ooh, so good. If I could figure out a low-carb sub for those tortillas or corn chips, as some use, I'd eat that frequently.

Back in the low-carb craze years (early 2000s?), Trader Joe's sold these with the "low-carb" label.  That's gone now, but I think the chips are the same, and I really like them.  They aren't quite as low as you'd like, but at something like 8 or 9 grams per serving, you can at least plan that part of the recipe accordingly.  The chicken and cheddar are free, of course, and it seems like the green chiles shouldn't be too heavy, or can also be controlled.  Don't forget the cilantro!

(I'm not diabetic.  But I LOVE eating low-carb, and when I do it seriously I can shed the pounds.)

Well certainly NOT low-carb.....but:

One bag of noodles cooked.
Put in casserole dish
One can of cream of chicken soup
One large can of tuna.
Crush a couple of cups of Fritos on top.

Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes or so.

Thank you.

I had to go to the post office so I went out this morning.  Keith dropped me off and then I walked across the street to the Y and met him there.  I managed 20 minutes on the stairmaster and a slow 2 mile walk.   I felt rather tired but am perking up having finally eaten something.  So far I've done ok with the food.

Ah, casseroles.   I love a corn and tomato casserole....medium can white corn (drained), medium can crushed tomatoes (with liquid), chopped onions (1 medium white onion) and green peppers (for taste...a few tbsps).  Stir in some crushed saltines. Dot with three or four pats of butter. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes, natcherly.

Yum.

It's always better "the next day" when the flavors have had a chance to fully meld.

Casseroles:   I've made a broccoli casserole, that's about it.  I mentioned to a co-worker (in his 30's) that I had made it for Thanksgiving. He said that someone had just told him about a green bean casserole and that he had never heard of casseroles until then.

I like instances of serendipity. The day before I was to leave for Florida, I got a message from an old friend whom I hadn't seen in 15 years. She had moved to North Carolina and we sort of lost touch. She had gotten on Facebook in November or so, but she didn't seem to get the knack of it, so she didn't understand how the messages worked. Anyway, she had moved back to Florida and was now living 30 minutes away from where I would be visiting. We got together for lunch. It rained, but we had a great time.

Then my friend Carol, who took the picture and patiently listened while Ann and I caught up on everybody and everything, and I drove to a Walgreens to get one of Carol's prescriptions. That's when her car battery died in the middle of the drive-thru lane and we had to wait an hour for AAA to show up. The guy took less than a minute to charge the battery, but he told us it was the car's original (from 2005) and should be replaced immediately.

So, then we hiked it over to Walmart for a new battery and to give me a chance to freak out over that store. Ugh.

But they replaced the battery quickly and the car is running again.

Well, my Mekeel search was a lot of circles. The Essex Country Police gave me the run around to the New Jersey Dept. of Corrections website, which was no help, and the Essex Country Prosecutor's Office gave not much of a big goddam either, directing me back to the NJ DoC website!

At this point, I'm tired of the afternoon runaround.  Perhaps I'll try again down the pike.

Check your email

This does not surprise me :)

DR elmore I think it is very kind of you to think about reaching out to your lost friend.

I think so, too. Lost souls need help. Glad you're trying to reach out to him.

And I've been glad to see Cillaliz offering some advice on how to do this.

I have never before seen a photo of China's Great Wall with snow on it.

My cousin asked us to go see the Great Wall with he and his wife.  With great regret we had to say no. :(

Casseroles:   I've made a broccoli casserole, that's about it.  I mentioned to a co-worker (in his 30's) that I had made it for Thanksgiving. He said that someone had just told him about a green bean casserole and that he had never heard of casseroles until then.

He has obviously never attended a church potluck.

My eBook library hasn't sent me books in ages, in fact I had to purchase the last 4 books I have read.  Yesterday I began a 5th purchased book.  By bedtime 2 and come in from the library and 2 more arrived today.  The advantage of being sick is I did get through the first half of my current book.  I also lost 2 pounds but suspect those will return tomorrow since I could eat again today.

Feel better!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I can't borrow e-books from my library. But I have been borrowing a lot of e-books from other book-lovers.  For many e-books on amazon.com you are allowed to loan them once.  I am loving this feature!
