Well, you've read the notes, the notes were at 53, and now it is time for you to post until the 53 cows come home.

Actually, I went to bed after the game, read for a while, and then turned off the lights.  But for some reason, I just wasn't tired.  So after counting blessings instead of sheep, I finally decided to get up.

Part of the problem was that I had a really yucky dinner tonight, of which I ate very little.  My stomach was growling loudly, so I hoped a few slices of cheese will help settle it.

The other part is that I received a very lovely e-mail message from a very dear friend tonight.  It just happened to arrive at a time that I really needed it, which was wonderful.  However, it did key me up, which is making sleep difficult.

Tomorrow is a wide-open day, with nothing planned; so I guess it doesn't matter if I sleep now or sleep later.

Good morning, all!  I have physical therapy this morning along with a few errands before I get home. Then, I'm back to the final two Moross numbers of Act One. One, a solo for Dick Shawn, will go very quickly.  The Act One closer will take a bit of time.

Sorry to hear about the dragging tempo on the one number, BK, but it's nice to know that everything else went well.

Grand Budapest Hotel

I would like to see it up for Best Picture, Ralph Fiennes for Best Actor and it would be nice to see some of the other actors also be acknowledged. I am sure it will also be nominated for technical awards as well.

Since they are not out on DVD yet, I haven't seen most of the pictures that are in contention.

However, I really liked BOYHOOD and THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL, so I hope that they both do well.

Although I haven't seen her film, I also hope that Julianne Moore takes home a statuette.  She is overdue.

Three words: goddam. effen. buses.

The first bus, which would have got me to therapy early, showed up at my bus stop as I was crossing the street.  I walked toward it, waving my cane, got to the bus, and the asshole driver pulled away so I missed it. It was cruel and very deliberate.  I want him dead.

I then waited 15 minutes till the next showed up. I boarded it, and on the way to 96th Street, we lost 10 minutes while we hadto stop and let wheelchair patients board and get locked into safety positions. By the time we got to 896th Street, I was late to my appointment and after anther five minute wait, the bus showed up, packed to the gills because the stop before mine is a subway transfer location, and I had another 5-minute wait for the next bus. At that point, I was so angry that I cancelled my appointment, went to the post office, and now I'm home, still pissed.

I have yet to see Julianne Moore's film....STILL ALICE....I think it's called.  And I hope to see THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING this week.......

As for nominations....hmmmmm.....

Fienes, Keaton, Redmayne, Carell, Hawke for Best Actor - if Hawke is in BSA the he might get replaced by Cumberbatch or the guy from Selma

Moore and some others for Best Actress

Norton, Tatum, the Zero guy from B. Hotel, and Zach G.or JK Simmons for BSA

Patricia Arquette, Emma Stone & Naomi Watts, Meryl Streep and someone else

Picture: Birdman, Theory of Everything, Into the Woods, Grand Budapest Hotel, Boyhood, The Imitation Game, Whiplash, Selma

Title: Re: KRITZERLAND AT STERLING'S 53
Post by: Jrand74 on January 13, 2015, 07:43:06 AM
I really liked Birdman....it was interesting and strange and entertaining.  And I thought Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, and Emma Stone all gave outstanding performances.

FOXCATCHER and SELMA both played fast and loose with the facts and are getting called on it, so I think that hurts their chances at a Best Picture/Actor win.....

Hawke and Arquette were perfect in BOYHOOD, and I really liked that film, too.

And then there's GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL which was all kinds of quirky and funny.

It's gonna be a tough call - but of course the money is out there to guarantee a win for somebody.....

This speech by Emma Stone in BIRDMAN is wonderful and she nails it!

Means something to who? You had a career before the third comic book movie, before people began to forget who was inside the bird costume. You're doing a play based on a book that was written 60 years ago, for a thousand rich old white people whose only real concern is gonna be where they go to have their cake and coffee when it's over. And let's face it, Dad, it's not for the sake of art. It's because you want to feel relevant again. Well, there's a whole world out there where people fight to be relevant every day. And you act like it doesn't even exist! Things are happening in a place that you willfully ignore, a place that has already forgotten you. I mean, who are you? You hate bloggers. You make fun of Twitter. You don't even have a Facebook page. You're the one who doesn't exist. You're doing this because you're scared to death, like the rest of us, that you don't matter. And you know what? You're right. You don't. It's not important. You're not important. Get used to it.

But - I live in Indiana.

I wonder if you should start the Dream-o-matic Award for the Arts.  It will become known as the "Dreamy Award" and it may start slow for a few years, maybe only on YouTube.

But within a couple of years, it will be picked up by cable, and eventually it will be bought by a major network as it becomes a reliable, or at least entertaining and fanciful, predictor for the other awards.

What do other people do, when they can't sleep; if they don't have HHW to visit?

I think this was a rhetorical question, but I'll answer anyway. When I get into bed the first thing I do is what I call the "gratitude drill." I review my day and give thanks for everything that went right. There are always so many things going on that it's easy to lose sight of things that went right--the focus is always on things that went wrong. There's often more that went right--by my standard, of course--than I would have thought.

Got the busywork done this morning, the futzed and finessed.  Had to do a bit of photo research and realized I'd gotten one slight detail wrong, but it actually served me well and I only had to adjust one thing.  Then I had a patty melt and no fries or onion rings, then came right home.  I wrote six pages, then finished choosing the songs for the next Kritzerland show - Jerome Kern.  So hard - too many great songs, and I was in a hurry, but I just ended up with things I love plus a few I didn't know all that well but also love - and there are a couple that are rarely done, so that's always fun.  We have a great cast and thank heavens John Boswell is back with us so that part will be a piece of cake.  I'm waiting for the sheet music to arrive, then I'll get it to everyone, but I just go all that off my plate so I can now concentrate on writing the other six to eight pages I'd like to write before the end of the evening.  I'll take a brief break now to clear the old noggin' then start up again around six.  I'll probably write for ninety minutes then watch one of those Edgar Wallace mystery things because they're only an hour long.

If your library has OverDrive, then Kindle versions of the books should be an option.  I don't know if your library can choose to NOT allow Kindle editions if they're available, but a lot of the e-books through OverDrive have both epub and Kindle download options...but not all.

I just remembered, I did not have an OverDrive app on my original Nook.  I downloaded the books from the computer to my Nook.  It has been so long I forgot.  Having an app is much more convenient.

Back then the library books were mostly for epub (Nook) and now many are also Kindle and some are only Kindle.

I like the gratitude drill. I'll have to try that.

The flights were fairly uneventful, but I got four messages from Southwest, each with different times for departure on the flight from Atlanta to San Antonio. And we didn't leave at any of them.

But the flight gave me enough time to finish Balzac's "A Murky Business," which was indeed murky because it was set against a backdrop of all the change that occurred before, during and after the French Revolution and then all the mess with Napoleon, who was a minor character.

But it was a really good tale in which he showed good people who sometimes pay for doing the right thing and the bad people who sometimes succeed by doing wrong.

I need to get the bird at 7 a.m. and then head off to work.

I watched a movie, then wrote more pages - nine so far, with another three or four to come.  I'll finish the current chapter and happily I know exactly what the next chapter will be.

Yesterday's Topic of the Day:

I am an expert on casseroles.  Eating them, not making them.  My mother was a single-parent school teacher in the 50's.  Not exactly a high paying career back then, especially for women.  We had a lot of casseroles for dinner, with leftovers the next night.  it is strange that my sister and I grew up at the same dinner table.  She won't have anything to do with any food item that would fit in the casserole category.  I, on the other hand, loved casseroles then and still love them today

Tuna casserole, shepherd's pie, chicken and rice -- they were all good!  My favorite was her tamale pie.  I think I have finally figured out her secret, so I am going to try making it again in a few weeks.

Of course, my sister also hates vegetables, which are often a large part of the casserole.

To this day, green beans are the only vegetable that my sister will even sample.  I love most every vegetable, from lima beans to spinach.

And now for something completely different...there's a library-based comic strip called Unshelved (http://www.unshelved.com/), and late last year the writers had a Kickstarter campaign to digitize their books.  I contributed and today I received their card catalog USB drive with all 11 of their books and this is what it looks like:

I've added them to my new Galaxy tablet but it's taking about 10 minutes for EACH book to load into the book reader and "process."  I didn't realize that it would take so long.  But I've got them and can read them!

You don't have to be a library worker to enjoy the comic strip.
