Well, you've read the notes, the notes ran on, and now it is time for you to post until the run-on cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: INTERNUNCIAL!
-
Write, write, and write.

And thus concludes our riff on write/right/Wright.
Right?
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
This arrived yesterday. It's a paperback novelization of Sondheim's screenplay.
(http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a532/singdaw1/thelastofsheila_zps0dc99d36.jpg)
-
Good morning, all.
Right?
-
Rite.
Stravinsky had one.
-
So did Aid.
-
And Shop.
-
I don't think I ever had that Last of Sheila paperback. I remember going to it at least a couple of times. I believe it was at the Pacific (Stanley Warner). Right?
-
I'll stop now, thankfully, so somebody else can write.
-
Because... damn that singdaw, look what he made me do.
-
So, that's it from me for a while.
Right.
-
TOD:
Interesting question.
Aside from Drama and English classes, I don't think I really excelled at anything in school...primarily because I didn't want to be there. Hated math courses. I had my own plan, so I did enough to get by with a 2.4 or something grade point. Same with college.
School was marking time until I could venture out into the world and do what I wanted to do. I really learned much more useful things about life by working after school and during vacations; also by working in local theatre groups.
Looking back, my life would probably not have been remarkably different had I skipped college altogether.
On the other hand, a college diploma does impress some people.

(http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a532/singdaw1/thelastofsheila_zps0dc99d36.jpg)
Does the author stay close to the screenplay or does he riff on it adding his own stuff?
I think it would be very interesting to publish the screenplay annotated with notes from Sondheim, Perkins, Ross and the actors. I am sure there were changes from the time it was final to actual filming days.
-
And good morning to all.
I'm still a little zonked from my trip to the ER, but it's a work day and got to do what ones gotta do.
-
Continued good health vibes to DR MIKE - no more repeats of yesterday.
-
I excelled in English, History, Geography and Drama. I was even very in regular mathematics. I was able to see the answers without having to write down the calculations how to get to the answers, but still had to do them. Then when it came to trigonometry I just couldn't get it and dropped it.
-
I excelled in English and Literature and Composition and Journalism and Typing and History in High School....I did NOT excel in Algebra or Business Law or General Math....or Earth Science.
-
Good morning, all! The computer backup madness continues, and I hope it does not eat up too much of my day. It is working my last never, and i need to try a few more things this morning.
I may be E&T today.
-
Never say never.
(Oy! Sorry!). :)
-
I know I'll be E&T today, apologies in advance. Got lots to do in the trip preparation and keyboard programming departments.
-
I think I've deciphered the latest LaCie glitch but I won't know until theory goes into practice.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Healthy Vibes to DRs Mike, TCB, Jeanne and all! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
Let's kick this thing into second gear.
-
Two!
Now take it and run with it!
-
I've walked to market at 85th and Broadway, and iSkysoft Data Recvery is once again searching for that LaCie backup file lost somewhere in this hard drive. as soon as it shows up on the desktop - if it does - I shall finish the backup and getvon with my life: Moross and Paint Your Wagon.
I'm listening to Roberta; no matter what several critics have written, i'm very proud of this.
-
And thus concludes our riff on write/right/Wright.
Right?
Mary, marry, merry
-
And good morning to all.
Saturday morning greetings! Here's what Richard and I did 34 years ago today:
TOD:
I mostly excelled in English, history, and non-fiction writing. I won an essay contest in high school for my county. I wasn't too bad in math and even sort of enjoyed it. I had difficulty with science though. In college I started taking computer classes and enjoyed programming until I tried to take a "C" language class and had to drop out. Now, all programming seems to be done in Visual Basic, so who cares? Speaking of which, Druxy brings up an interesting topic of whether or not your education helped you in life. I would say mine most certainly did (except for all those COBOL programming classes). I was interviewing for a job and was called back three times. When I finally got the position, I asked my new boss why she chose me over the other person who also kept getting called back. She said they chose me because I was the one who had a masters degree. Go figure.
-
Happy anniversary, Ginny!
-
...and I, too, felt like "school was marking time until I could venture out into the world and do what I wanted to do." I got my bachelor's degree in three years (taking 22 units a quarter) because I couldn't wait to get done. Looking back, those were some of the best years of my life, and I wish I would have taken time to enjoy them more.
Happy Anniversary you two lovebirds!
Thank you, DRs Amy and Vixmom! We are going to one of our favorite Dayton restaurants, The Amber Rose (http://www.theamberrose.com/about-us/), for dinner.
I did well in my English and History courses and struggled with math I was Ok with Science until I got to Chemistry and there was so much math that I struggled there as well
I'll have the stuffed mushrooms. potato soup, Lithuania Sampler and Jager Schnitzel and an order of Hungarian Paprikas to go , please
-
You got it, DR Vixmom! Now I'm off to have my hair cut & styled - bye for now!
-
Good morning, all.
Happy Saturday.
-
Happy anniversary, Ginny! It's even nicer to see that know that I know both of you in person.
TOD:
Never had any trouble with foreign languages, took several simultaneously and could keep them straight. I can't do that anymore. Sometimes when I reach for a word in German, the Spanish or French equivalent will come out of my mouth.
I remember sailing through Algebra II as if it were the easiest thing in the world, but I had more trouble with algebra and geometry. And I think I stopped at that point.
-
Happiest of anniversaries to DR GINNY and DH RICHARD!!!
-
Last night's concert of the Mozart Requiem and the Strauss Tod und Verklarung was largely wonderful. Enjoyed the Strauss more than the Mozart if only because it was purely instrumental and I find the local choral society to be sloppy and ragged. When they finish a word, you'll often hear it end seven or eight different times within the same vocal section. I just wish they'd learn to finish-ish-ish-ish-ish-ish-ish together.
-
Waiting for the guy from the mortgage company to come over to finish off the refinancing.
-
Singdaw, I have about 10 or 12 different bottles of bitters to use for various cocktails and for cooking. I loathe sweet cocktails, so a dash or two of rhubarb bitters in a drink will cut the sugary nature back and make it taste like something I'd want to drink. (I stick largely to the Fee Brothers bitters because the others are often $20+ a bottle.)
But I really like adding a dash or two of, say, cherry bitters to a pork dish or peach bitters in a pie. It adds richness of flavor to things.
I'm headed off to the local cocktail conference after the refinancing. It'll be interesting to see if there are any new flavor combinations of bitters on the market.
We ran a recipe for barbecue bitters and a cocktail in "Barbecue Lover's Texas."
-
Happy closing day
!
-
Thanks, Vixmom. I wish you were handling it.
-
Just caught up with yesterday's reading.
Glad you're OK, Mike.
Cough go away vibes for George.
-
Closing vibes for DR JOHN G.
I don't know from bitters.
-
Saturday morning greetings! Here's what Richard and I did 34 years ago today:
Happy 34th Anniversary to DR Ginny and DH Richard!
-
I love bitters in cocktails, though I guess the one thing I usually make that uses them is Manhattans. At home I always use orange bitters which, in addition to cutting the sweet vermouth, are a heavenly complement to the cherry component.
Someone advised adding a couple of drops of regular bitters -- the ubiquitous Angostura, I guess -- to a Martini, too (which I shouldn't have to specify as a gin one, but I will!). :)
-
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Anniversary to DR Ginny and Richard !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I still remember DR Ginny's phone call to me about meeting a Richard Palmer, whom she believed I knew.
-
The LaCie has once again been located and the backups are commencing. The Moross number today is the Act One Finale, "The Contraband Ball." It's looooooong.
-
I've listened to Roberta and I'm thinking about playing Benjamin Britten's Paul Bunyan now.
-
!!! Page 3 !!!
-
Well, I've got to get back to slaving over a hot keyboard.
Synth strings galore. Gotta love it.
The saving grace in this particular task is that the music itself (She Loves Me) is so damned nice.
Does Prosecco taste as good as champagne? I like the idea of less alcohol, then I could drink more.
Does Prosecco taste as good as champagne? I like the idea of less alcohol, then I could drink more.
Prosecco has a few different flavors, but all are sparkling, like Champagne. They're also affordable, with some available for under $10 a bottle. Look at the labeling. Some are sweet (extra dry), some slightly sweet (dry) or dry (brut). Some are also softer and more delicate than others. I love them. You can also make a nice cocktail with them, an Aperol spritzer, with Aperol, which is like Campari, mixed with a sweeter prosecco.
-
Thank you for the anniversary wishes, DRs John G, JRand, ChasSmith, Elmore, FJL, Jane!
-
JRand: Bitters are herbal concoctions used to add flavors to cocktails. As ChasSmith pointed out, the traditional martini recipe calls for a couple of dashes of orange bitters in with the gin and vermouth. And Manhattans as well as Old Fashioneds use them.
Angosturra and Peychaud's are the two traditional varieties. But I also have chocolate, mint, celery, rhubarb, cherry, blood orange, peach and grapefruit bitters to play around with. You use them sparingly because they are strong, condensed flavors and can easily override whatever you use them in.
-
I'm up, I'm up. I think I got a bit over eight hours of sleep. It took a while to actually fall asleep. I'll futz and finesse shortly.
-
Happy Anniversary to DR Ginny and Richard!
-
TOD: in high school I used to study a lot so I did well in most subjects. I think the ones I did best at were: English, French, math. i think I got good grades in chemistry and physics but mostly because i studied the material, not because I was really that good at those subjects.
There are only a few pieces of music that completely reduce me to rubble, but Benjamin Britten’s glorious PAUL BUNYAN, in conjunction with W.H Auden’s text, leaves me a blubbering wreck.
I just cried like a baby, listening to Philip Brunelle’s wonderful recording.
Seventy years later, and it still possesses a punch:
From a Pressure group that says I am the Constitution,
From those who say Patriotism and mean Prosecution,
From a Tolerance that is really inertia and disillusion:
Save animals and men.
-
Thank you, DR Jennifer!
-
It is so cold out today. I went to Target (which i haven't been to in a while). Since they announced this week that all of the Target's in Canada are closing ... well it was completely packed.
Mark Lamos' production for City Opera was one of the greatest things I've ever seen. He had the singers playing the the cat and dog on roller skates, the chorus of Old Trees were in bluish-gray rocking chairs holding small evergreens, as I recall. It was so imaginative and magical. I think I wept through every performance except for the performance that was broadcast and screwed up by the PBS producer.
Hough and Hudgens - is it going to be set in Rydell Graduate School?
Thank you for the bitters info DR JOHN G. Most informative.
DR Elmore, is that CD your favorite of the available recordings? I'll order one.
Ancient Grease?
Summer day,
Brought my Ben-Gay
'Cause uh-oh, that summer night
I've got chills, they're multiplying
And I'm losing control
'Cause the fiber they're supplying
(oh, wait, they're not that old)
At least that got us to page 4
Yes.
Since they usually rehearse these live musicals for TV for eight weeks, one wonders what Miss Hudgens is doing because she's just starting previews in Washington for Gigi. This Grease live, will undoubtedly follow the film rather than the original stage play, and it will be a complete and utter bore.
-
I futzed and finessed and wrote a couple of new paragraphs, then went to have lunch. As you all know, I am a regular at Jerry's Deli - and I have been a regular for years. I have gone there on Saturdays hundreds of times. I know the deal and the deal is they're simply not very busy. I walked in at twelve-thirty and was greeted with about twenty people waiting to be seated. WAITING. I turned right around and left.
-
I ended up at Du-Par's and had a vomititious eggs benedict and a short stack. I keep hoping the pancakes will go back to their original glory, but the glory days are done and I shall never be returning to Du-Par's. I'd rather do the longer drive to the House of Pies, where they have great eggs benedict and great pancakes. So, Farewell Du-Par's.
-
Looks like GREASE LIVE will be in January 2016, though, so schedules will be OK with GIGI
-
FUTZ AND FINESSE - sounds like a chic accounting firm
Thanks for the info. I prefer my champagne plain, if it is good champagne so I will try that first, if I see it.
I never really cared for champagne until we went to Paris, and then I practically guzzled it every night. Not only was in incredibly good I couldn't believe how inexpensive it was. In spite of drinking too much on a few occasions I never felt drunk or had a hangover.
-
Oh, 2016. Why are they even talking about it then?
-
It's directed by the world's worst director after Rob Ashford, so it may not get to Broadway and run. she may be looking for other work on December.
-
DR FJL you're killing me! LOL
-
Was just struggling with the opening of the chapter I'm working on. I just kept not liking the way I was writing it at all. So I'd get to a new line and it was like I couldn't come up with anything - you know, I could write something but nothing felt right to me. So, I went back, revised the end of the previous chapter and ended it a paragraph earlier, began the new chapter with the previous chapter's end paragraph that I'd just removed and suddenly I had some life going on. Then I rewrote everything and it's all working much better now. I've only done two pages, but at least I got them to where I'm okay with them, and now I'll mush on.
-
Farewell Du-Par's.
This is sad.
-
This may not be a surprise to anyone, I was too busy reading books to do homework :)
-
If I wasn't reading I was running, yes running for the pure pleasure of it, or playing sports.
-
In my free time I played with the neighbor's cats. Often I combined cat time with reading while sitting on my front lawn. I also had a cat named Sir Lancelot. I would take him to Rancho Park, down the street from my house, and he would play next to me while I read.
-
I'm not sure there are many things better in life than curled up with a good book and a purring cat.
Tonight is COPS
Thank you for the bitters info DR JOHN G. Most informative.
There was a whole book on bitters for sale at the cocktail conference today, not coincidentally titled Bitters. I'm going to look for a used copy.
-
I guess I missed the 2016 part about Grease. Sorry.
Still, if it's a whole year away, why are they talking about it now? It also seems as if The Wiz is the next NBC presentation, or at least NBC acquired the rights to do it. For December. Also, essentially a year away.
Sorry to hear that Du-Par's has gone down hill. I used yo go there all the time when I was staying in Studio City.
Too bad about Du-Par's. I loved the pancakes at the Farmers Market one a couple of years ago.
Other than that, I hadn't eaten at one in years.
Vixmom I have no idea why anyone would eat at Junior's. I never, ever want to go there again. The last time I purchased Challah & Rye bread to bring home it was so bad I trashed it. Keith couldn't eat it either so it wasn't just me being my usual picky self.
-
One backup to go! Then I can delete the old backups toss the LaCie into the garbage.
Thank God it's almost finished.
-
Almost done-yea!!!!
-
Thank you to DRs Laura and Mike for the anniversary wishes!
On our way to dinner we stopped at Best Buy for a new microwave. I'd planned to buy one after Christmas, but then Mom decided to give hers up. It was at least 5 years old (maybe more) and not very powerful. I had my suspicions about it last weekend when I tried a bag of microwave popcorn and only about half of it popped. Then Wednesday, when I was making the Samoas, I started to melt the chocolate and the 'wave went KA-BLOOEY! Oh, well, Mom never needs to know...
-
We had a wonderful meal at the Amber Rose. Richard had the Lithuanian sampler and I had the Russian beef stroganoff. I brought home half of my entree and we each brought home half of our dessert - bread pudding for me and carrot cake for Richard.
We topped off the evening with that romantic couple activity - grocery shopping.
I've done about seven pages so far. I took a one-hour break at some point and watched episode two of season two's The Fall.
-
I'll try to write two to three more pages now, then take another one-hour break, and then shower and finish the chapter and move on the the final three chapters of the book, which will be tricky but I'm looking forward to doing it.
Yes, DR Jane, and after what happened Wednesday, I'm glad Mom wasn't trying to use it.
T.O.D.
I did best in Drama Class and in Band. Once I got to high school, all other subjects went downhill. I lived my high school years in a kind of bubble. Once I walked out of a class, I totally forgot any homework I had until I walked back into class the next day. Fortunately, I had Student Assistant, plus band and drama to couteract my D- in Biology and Trig.
-
And that's all finished. I can chill out for a bit before I turn off the lights.
-
Hi all! Happy, happy, happy anniversary to DR Ginny!!! May there be many more to come!
Hope DR. Mike is doing better and I also wish DR Noel a very happy birthday as well!
-
We had a little bit of cold spell. One evening it was a very cold wind and drizzle rain while waiting for the bus. Good thing I always carry a sweater and a umbrella with me. I felt like something was trying to get a hold on me but I went to bed super early a couple of nights and seemed to have beat it off.
I had a 50% off one item from Jo Ann Fabrics so I bought a looming board I've been eyeing for quite awhile--it was around fifty dollars so I was really happy to get it for $25. :)
-
Thanks, DR Danise - it's nice to see you here tonight!
Fourteen pages. Finished a chapter - I'm really happy with the end of the chapter - the kind of thing I LOVE to do. So, I just wrote the first line of the third to last chapter. I may do another page or two later, although I don't really have to, but what a good day's work it's been and I think I deserve at least an hour or two break.
Yes, DR Jane, and after what happened Wednesday, I'm glad Mom wasn't trying to use it.
You got it just in time :)
We had a little bit of cold spell. One evening it was a very cold wind and drizzle rain while waiting for the bus. Good thing I always carry a sweater and a umbrella with me. I felt like something was trying to get a hold on me but I went to bed super early a couple of nights and seemed to have beat it off.
I had a 50% off one item from Jo Ann Fabrics so I bought a looming board I've been eyeing for quite awhile--it was around fifty dollars so I was really happy to get it for $25. :)
What will you be making with the looming board?
Good evening. This afternoon I saw the touring edition of "Joseph ... Dreamcoat."
It was the American Idol version.
Happy Anniversary Ginny and Richard!!
Just caught up with yesterday's reading.
Glad you're OK, Mike.
Cough go away vibes for George.
Thanks, John! They are lessening, but aren't completely gone...yet. :-\
Well, since we're so close...
-
PAGE SIX DANCE!!
-
Finished two more episodes of The Fall - hard to stretch this over what will end up as twelve episodes, but they're doing a reasonable job of not being repetitious. I'm sure the final two episodes will be good.
-
I wrote one more page for a total of fifteen and I'm stopping there even though I probably could write another three or four.
-
Happy Anniversary to Ginny and Richard!
Six Guests on a Saturday evening! Welcome!
Today, I went to work for a few hours, then went to my sister's and she and my niece and I watched a documentary on Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss called, "The Unbelievers (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KY6YAO2/)." The description on Amazon is, "'The Unbelievers' follows renowned scientists Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss across the globe as they speak publicly about the importance of science and reason in the modern world. Blasphemous to some, heroic to others, the weight of their message is impossible to ignore."
It was very interesting and we all enjoyed it...pretty much all three of us are athiests, so we agreed with what they talked about.
Does Prosecco taste as good as champagne? I like the idea of less alcohol, then I could drink more.
I liked it better, but maybe it was just the Prosecco I had.
There are only a few pieces of music that completely reduce me to rubble, but Benjamin Britten’s glorious PAUL BUNYAN, in conjunction with W.H Auden’s text, leaves me a blubbering wreck.
I just cried like a baby, listening to Philip Brunelle’s wonderful recording.
Seventy years later, and it still possesses a punch:
From a Pressure group that says I am the Constitution,
From those who say Patriotism and mean Prosecution,
From a Tolerance that is really inertia and disillusion:
Save animals and men.
I don't believe I've ever heard this!
Mark Lamos' production for City Opera was one of the greatest things I've ever seen. He had the singers playing the the cat and dog on roller skates, the chorus of Old Trees were in bluish-gray rocking chairs holding small evergreens, as I recall. It was so imaginative and magical. I think I wept through every performance except for the performance that was broadcast and screwed up by the PBS producer.
I have this (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004VFWT/) recording. I can't remember the last time that I listened to it...if I've actually even listened to it. ::)
I'll take it to work next week and give it a listen.
T.O.D.
I did best in Drama Class and in Band. Once I got to high school, all other subjects went downhill. I lived my high school years in a kind of bubble. Once I walked out of a class, I totally forgot any homework I had until I walked back into class the next day. Fortunately, I had Student Assistant, plus band and drama to couteract my D- in Biology and Trig.
I had a very similar situation...algebra gave me my D grades and two choirs every year for four years allowed me to graduate with a B average. :)
