I thought i'd be sleeping longer this morning, but around 8:30 my body decided it was time to get out of bed. I got about 11 hours of sleep and I feel much better than I did yesterday. I still have the impression that there's a sore throat coming down the pike, so I will up the amount of vitamin C I'm taking. I will also be staying inside for the next couple of days working on Paint Your Wagon, so tha should help me, too.

They were all good, really. I was lucky enough to have one of the Westmore's on several jobs.

The show is not done that often in the Pacific Northwest. I directed the show back in the late 80's, and I ended up having to play Mr. Maraczek, as well. It was a wonderful production that few people ever saw. We had zero publicity.

I think you follow that tip well. At the same time you are guilt free as you have been a wonderful daughter. Vibes the doctor figures out something to help with her depression.

The late Capital Playhouse did it quite a few years ago. They had some wonderful singers and it was absolutely delightful.

Post by: elmore3003 on January 21, 2015, 12:50:18 PM: The past sixteen months have not been easy, and the crap continues: the Encores! work has suddenly gone on hold, and now that I've paid my bills , with inflation on Time Warner and my Medicare payments, cell phone, and monthly meds, it looks as though, unless other work comes in, I will have only $319.92 every month to pay for food, clothing, apartment insurance and little else. When my lease goes up in August, it will leave me around $219.00 a month to play with. I don't know at this moment how I'm paying for my accountant, anything that might be due on my 2014 taxes or the Ohio property tax.

Now, the Encores! work may start up again, but the longer they wait, the less time I have to accomplish it, and I am really screwed at the moment.

I keep hoping something good will happen; there have been discussions of work with Rodgers & Hammerstein and those passive-aggressive overtures from the Packard Humanities Institute, but the phone's not ringing, and I'm concerned.

Last year I could write it off because my health was more important, but now I'm getting pissed. I'm not conceited: I know that I'm good at what I do, and in some areas, like musical theatre reconstruction and period orchestration, i am one of the best.

And I watch people less capable getting the work.

One of our actresses was forthright today in saying she was concerned that her voice is not going to suit the songs she has to sing and that she was willing to drop out without any bad feelings. The character is a one-hit wonder who hasn't really recorded in quite a few years. I've always thought Carole King in my head for vocal quality, rather than the belter that Ann Crumb was in the original off-B'way production. But our gal just has this wonderful edge, great comic chops and is a terrific actor - and I'd rather that than a lesser actress who has more of the sound that the composer wrote. So, I'm for keeping her, which is what I told her. Besides, it took forever to find her - everyone else we'd approached couldn't do it.

I'll pick up the copies around seven tonight.

We just got the e-mail about 45 minute ago and we've all practically been celebrating since then! He's been the bane of the union since we decided to unionize several years ago and he for whatever (I think, personal) reasons made it very difficult every step of the way. FINALLY he's gone! :D

Post by: Cillaliz on January 21, 2015, 08:50:57 PM: Hmm, well, It's a little too complicated to just post on here, but my client was accused by the investigator at DOT (our DMV) of having a false social security card that she intended to use to get a duplicate id to give to someone to use to get a job with false documents (Kind of convoluted). They never said who this person was supposed to be.

I'm not going to go into the whole story of how she accidentally took in a fake card with her name on it to DMV, but there was an explanation. So she spends the interview telling the investigator that if this isn't her real social then her real her real social and license are missing and likely stolen. He spends the entire interview trying to get her to confess. They was one sentence in the interview that the state said was an admission, but if you looked at the interview from her perspective, it wasn't at all, it was just a summary of what she was trying to tell him.

Long story short, the agent, who reminded me of the Sacha Baron Cohen as the stationmaster in Hugo (seriously, I almost started laughing) was a jerk He said he did absolutely nothing to investigate her missing ID. Go figure.

See, if we lost, she would be deported and there would be nothing I could do to get her back, and the jury couldn't know that. She has 4 kids ages 6 and under and her soon to be ex husband hasn't given permission to get passports, so she may not have been able to take her kids with her when she left the country. While the case was pretty bogus, the stakes were very high. She did testify and did a good job

I've done over 50 jury trials, not sure exactly how many, but I know it's more than 50. I've learned that if you can be more of a teacher figure, leading the jury through the evidence and explaining it all, you can lead them into seeing things from your point of view. I've also learned that you have to be able to make the jurors comfortable with saying not guilty. I don't rant and rave or needlessly belittle people if I don't have to. Being able to say someone is mistaken or there just isn't enough evidence is more comfortable for jurors. I could have said that the agent was a prejudiced SOB, which I believe he is, but I let them make that conclusion for themselves.

I believe she is trying to be something other than what her parents were. Her mother kicked her out at age 15 . She had to figure out how to make her own way. She's 24. She just graduated from high school in December. She walked in graduation to be an example for her kids. She's trying to do things the right way. She's a good mom and a good person. I am SO proud of her and was so happy to be able to tell her that and for her to discover what happens when you stand up for yourself. The tears just poured when she heard the verdict. The court attendant actually told me to tell her to breathe. She literally broke down with relief.
