Well, you've read the notes (finally), you know about firewalls within (finally), you probably know that we were down for a whopping twelve hours, just as you probably know that there will be a very strong conversation today about this, and now it is time for you to post until the whopping twelve cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: POLYMATHY!
-
First after BK, but it probably doesn't count when it's almost noon, i bet.
-
And I'll need reports if anyone is having any problems loading anything on this site or Kritzerland - just be careful that it's not you-related rather than site-related. Thanks for your patience and we should be fine from here on in.
-
And a second good morning to all.
-
TOD: I can't remember all of the things that I wanted to be. It was more things that I wanted to do, such as fly. I did at one point when I was young want to be a writer, though I think I always wanted to be a reader more than anything.

In other strange news: Patty Hearst-Shaw wins Westminster:

OK, well, her dog does.
-
Page one? Really? Oh, yeah.
-
And we are hopefully back to normal! I left a necessary score for the Mormon Trio at City Center yesterday. Damn!
I'll go in tomorrow, pick up the score, copy the part, pick up another score from Joshie and come home. O think we are in good shape for the orchestra reading n Feb. 27.
I wanted to be a train engineer - I loved steam locomotives - and a magician before my parents and Aunt Jean decided I would be a doctor. That lasted until after I registered in college as a premed student, and then all hell broke loose when I changed my mind.

OK, well, her dog does.
I saw this. I hope I still have an internet connection at 10:45 this morning to watch a young gal I know compete with her Bernese Mountain Dog.

The carpet installers have arrived. They are beginning with our bedroom which should take a good while. Once they are done in there they will move into the office and Keith will have to disconnect the internet. That room won't take as long since the handyman removed the carpet in there before painting.
-
All is working fine now, no delays trying to open the site or post.
-
From DR elmore:
Washington DC government isclosed down for the weather. Joshie, Rob Berman, and ZORBA are on hold.
What a bunch of wimps. You gotta be tough or insane or both to live in Manhattan. We should run the government.
Craig said they canceled school and then didn't get as much snow as expected. He is happy not to work today since he has had a cold.
-
Site is running beautifully right now!
-
In fact, it's running way better than my snow blower, which just blessed me with one more damned thing to learn how to fix on it. Fortunately, I'm done with it for the day and can do the fix tomorrow. I really want the rest of my day to be music related.
-
BK piqued my interest in the Paul Williams Still Alive documentary, and just for the HELL of it I took a quick look on IMDb to see if there were any comments along the lines of BK's. If this first one in the message board is any indication, there should be plenty...
Not really about Paul Williams
This film is really about how obnoxious, thoughtless, and incompetent a documentarian can be. He made himself the star, with Paul Williams as the victim of his ninja film tactics.
I spent most of the film cringing.
-
I'm so glad the carpets are being done on schedule. The house is a disaster with everything we removed, to make it easier to do the work, and spread throughout the house.
-
Carpet be done vibes for DR JANE.
-
HHW is moving along very well on the Information Highway.
-
Thanks DR Jrand. I'm about to go look. Keith said the new bedroom carpet is beautiful and soft.
-
Tuesday afternoon greetings! When I tried this site earlier this morning and could not get in I decided to leave it alone for a while. Finished my book group book for Thursday - The Pearl That Broke Its Shell - and puttered a bit.
-
Did you like the book as much as I did?
-
Halla-freakin'-looya!! I'm able to post! I couldn't even read BK's notes until now. HOPEFULLY, it's all fixed! I definitely have some ketchuping to do. :D
-
Did you like the book as much as I did?
Yes and no. I thought both stories were compelling and my reading experience was enhanced by meeting the author and hearing her speak in Chicago. The writing, though, was very clumsy in places and I found the book too long and not well-edited. Looking forward to discussing it with my friends.
-
Thanks. I'll be curious if your group agrees with you. I did enjoy the stories more than the writing. You are probably right about the editing, which unfortunately is too often true these days.
-
I'll let you know, DR Jane.
Meanwhile, good luck with the new carpet. Are there fumes that are bothersome to you?
-
Good afternoon. Doing this from my iPhone. Glad to see we are up and running
-
Tod
I wanted tone young and handsome. Which I was both once
-
Lunch meeting isn't happening, so I guess I'll go get something to eat shortly.
-
TOD - I often wondered - will I be pretty? will I be rich? Well, we all know how that turned out Que sera sera
-
I hear ya DR MATTHEW.....I feel your pain

Tod

You are still very handsome, Mike!
-
You both are lovely...absolutely lovely! (a Sondheim reference ;) )
-
Hello, everyone.
Bruce, I was able to access the site and login just fine. No problems that I can see.
-
That's all from me for now.
TT.
-
Two days until I go to the beach. Can hardly wait. It's warmed up to the mid-50s here today, but the pollens are so bad, I feel as if I have a cold.
-
It has warmed up to 24 degrees here with a feels like of 11 degrees.
Expected lows tomorrow and Thursday......-2 degrees and -3 degrees.....
-
TOD: I have no idea what I wanted to be when I was a "wee bairn", but I grew up wanting to be an actor. I was, in an amateur way, through college and during my military career.
Couldn't care less about it now. Most of those who inspired me have passed away and there is no one I truly admire/would want to be like performing now.
But that's the advantage of growing old. Your tastes and outlooks change.
-
Back from some pasta in creamy tomato sauce and picking up a couple of packages.
-

Gosh, Jack. It is currently 50 degrees in Oakland. But, if it's any help at all, it feels like 49 degrees.

Topic of the Day: When I was in high school, for a while I wanted to be either a watch repairman or an architect. I took shop in 7th and 8th grade and then not again until I was a senior in high school. I really enjoyed drawing the plans for the projects that I made, which made me think about architecture. Otherwise, I just really liked watches, especially pocket watches.
I high school, my friend Andrew let me take apart his Rubik's cube. I took the plastic center part from that and made wooden outer pieces. It didn't really fit together perfectly, but I got an "A" on the project, mainly because no one had tried anything like that before. :)

Ethan (http://www.kritzerland.com/ethan.htm) has just arrived!
-
Ethan (http://www.kritzerland.com/ethan.htm) has just arrived!
Really enjoyed my first two listens. Hope to find some time to devote to it.
-
Also just received (but from Screen Archives), the limited edition Twilight Time Blu-ray for Stormy Weather (http://www.screenarchives.com/title_detail.cfm/ID/28537/STORMY-WEATHER-1943/) and the expanded original motion picture soundtrack to The Last Starfighter (http://www1.screenarchives.com/title_detail.cfm/ID/28477/LAST-STARFIGHTER-EXPANDED/)!
-
...AND from Amazon.co.uk, the London cast recording to Memphis The Musical (http://www.amazon.co.uk/MEMPHIS-MUSICAL-London-Cast/dp/B00QUHLS8K/). :D
-
My Twilight Time Blu rays were shipped 2/11/15, but I've seen nothing of them yet. Mail has not arrived today and it's nearly 4 p.m.
The day after a holiday is tedious.
-
Where on earth...
-
...are all the posts...
-
..from all the posters?
-
I have some news.
-
Unlike one former DR who used to post such things and then wait until someone begged him to finish, I shan't make you wait.
-
I couldn't get on at all last night. So, it finally caught up with me, lol. It's very fast right now
-
I bought, from Sleep Train, a brand new Beautyrest mattress w/pillowtop and foundation.
The bed is now so much higher off the ground than it was since the thickness of the mattress/foundation is a bit more than double the thickness of the old mattress/box springs.
It's been a while since I shopped for mattresses.
20 years, in fact.
Sigh.
-
TOD, I wanted to be my cousin's nurse (he was in med school to be a doc) or I wanted to be a secretary or I wanted to be a weather girl. Then I wanted to be a studio musician or a composer. It was a long time before I actually considered being a lawyer
-
I completed my order at roughly 2:25 p.m. yesterday. The mattress was on a truck and in my condo by 3:30 p.m. yesterday.
-
I had a grand time putting all my pillows in my dryer and fluffing them. Everything was freshened up. I had already bought a new comforter for the bed (pending my getting a new mattress during President's Day weekend).
-
Actually, when I graduated from law school, I still wasn't sure I wanted to be a lawyer, but felt the die had pretty much been cast
-
Tonight I'm going to Whiplash with Paul. He wanted to have pizza first, but it's $2.00 popcorn night, so I plan to eat lots of popcorn
-
I had an incredible night's sleep. Only awakened three times...and one of those times was to change position. I normally have changed positions frequently through a night....8 or 9 times by my reckoning. Each time, I would awaken and have to move my body pillow with my turn.
Last night I moved my body pillow to the side of the bed and finished my night's sleep without it.
-
Closing in on a new page, I think.
-
There.
Three.
Their.
Three.
They're.
Three.
-
Congratulations on your new bed, DR Ron Pulliam.
I hope it gives you many years of good service.
When you're not off galavanting with the chickens, that is. :)
-
No DR RLP - that does not make me feel better.

Congrats on your new purchase, Ron! And hopefully better sleeping! I got my mattress shortly after I moved into my condo. It was a hand-me-down queen-size from my sister's boyfriend. He had had it for only about a year before he decided that he wanted a California King. That's a huge mattress! Anyway, my sister also had a memory foam topper that she didn't like, so I got both. And I love them. Because of the topper, the bed, even after eight years now, still looks and feels practically brand new.
-
DR CILLA LIZ I enjoyed WHIPLASH.....but I must tell you that it was disturbing to me in some ways.....
It is a good movie with good performances.
-
I keep wondering why they couldn't have added a plot to BOYHOOD
-
Since I was little I have wanted to be an actor.....which I sort of am in a very small amateur way.....and a writer.....ditto.
More recently, I have tried to be a better people person and be more tolerant of the idiots who don't share my views......this last has been difficult...
-
That bed sounds so comfy!
-
Are we fixed?
-
We collaborated with our upstairs housemates on a traditional Shrove Tuesday pancake supper. Rob fixed Mary Linda's gluten free pancakes and bacon for all and I did pancakes for the rest of us. The smoke alarm only went off once.
-
I'll let you know, DR Jane.
Meanwhile, good luck with the new carpet. Are there fumes that are bothersome to you?
We got a fume free padding and the carpets are fine. We didn't have to replace the padding in our bedroom.
-
We had to turn the internet off just as the Bernese Mountains Dogs were about to go into the show ring. I'm annoyed that now I have a connection again the video isn't up.
-
Today other bag of clothes that are too big are going in to storage
-
The carpets looks very nice except for one strange strip in the closet. It is about 2' wide, darker and kind of wavy. The carpet guy is going to get back to us. He likely will need to come look at it.
-
DR Ron I hope you are very happy with your new mattress.
-
I wanted to be an ice skater and then the skating rink I went to closed down, my mother became an alcoholic, and that was the end of my skating career. Yes, there was another rink I could have gone to.
-
I take it back, now that the windows are closed there is a bit of new carpet smell. It isn't bad so I think I'll be ok sleeping in the bedroom. The weather is so lovely here we can open the windows again tomorrow.
-
Tod

You are still very handsome, Mike!
blush
-
Well folks you're not going to believe this
But the last doctor I saw for my knee said he couldn't do my knee because I saw him as a consult and have to go back to my original doctor.
I tried to explain that my original doctor does not do partial knee replacements which is why I went to see him.
I have to speak to the office manager who wasn't there so I left a message explaining the situation and hoping that she will call me back and we can straighten this out.
-
Did you ask the first doctor to send a note to the second doctor? Hmmm, Keith is going to look for a 2nd opinion regarding his elbow surgery. I hope he doesn't have the same problem. His first doctor will not be the one referring him for a consult. Is that the case in your situation?
-
I wish I could fit into my nice black slacks and take them to wear for the funeral. That means a shirt and sandals, if I can fit into one of my skirts. I can't even try anything on until I can return my clothes to my closet. I'm rather frustrated.
-
I know it isn't a major problem, but I would like to sort it all out and not have to do it later.
-
For anybody who watches THE MENTALIST, the 2 hour series finale is tomorrow (Wednesday). It is 2 hours vs the regular 1 hour.
-
Well, it's time for me to leave work. Tonight at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts, they're having concessions training and since I really only learned by doing it, I want to know what I don't know...or teach them correctly on what they might teach the newbies incorrectly. ;)
Until later.
-
DR Jennifer thanks for the heads up on that. I'll check it is set to record for the full 2 hours. I told Keith we need to watch it on Thursday. I don't want to read any spoilers.
-
I think the spoilers are already out. Plus the previews last week.
-
I am definitely going to watch it tomorrow night.
-
I am not aware of spoilers. Maybe we still have an episode to watch.
-
Well there are some big things happening that have already been leaked. i've seen them posted and I think some of it was on the previews last week.
-
Let's move on.
-
Four!
-
Great news on the bed, DR RonP. I hope you enjoy many sleep-filled nights with pleasant dreams on it.
-
Went to a Manhattans class tonight with King Cocktail Dale De Groff. It was actually more about which bitters to use, and we compared five aromatic bitters and how they changed the nature of each Manhattan.
It was education, ChasSmith, but I had to think of you and the bitters question from awhile back.
-
DR Mike, I'm hoping you can get this doctor situation straightened out soon.
-
Need to finish packing.
-
On my way to Gelson's, as I'm out of just about everything.
-

Sounds fascinating. I have much to learn in the world of bitters.
-
Is this thing on?
-
I hope everyone is doing well
-
I woke up to about 3 inches of snow and more falling so got to clear the drive and the cars before I headed out to work
-
I ended up bringing in one of my co workers who lives nearby and is frightened to drive in the snow
-
the day was, as usual, crazy busy but I left at 7 because I had a meeting at church at 7:30
-
We collaborated with our upstairs housemates on a traditional Shrove Tuesday pancake supper. Rob fixed Mary Linda's gluten free pancakes and bacon for all and I did pancakes for the rest of us. The smoke alarm only went off once.
I settled for pancakes from McDonalds on the way to work....but they still count!
-
I enjoyed Whiplash more than I thought I would
-
No pancakes today. Had some gumbo, but missed out on most of the traditional foods for today.
-
I ended up bringing in one of my co workers who lives nearby and is frightened to drive in the snow
Driving in snow and ice is one of the things I don't miss about living in upstate New York.
-
Sneezing like crazy tonight. I need to take a Benedryl and drop off to sleep.
-
Good night, all.
-
Page four? Really? We're actually working so we should all be posting and enjoying it.
-
I heard a good one for the Oscar food titles...American Snapper....better save the rest for Sunday
-
I'm off to bed.. Glad the site is back up
-
I think I was a bad boy and ate too much for my evening snack. Ah, well. Tomorrow will be a light food day for sure.
-
We may as well be down for all the posting going on.
-
Well, it's time for me to leave work. Tonight at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts, they're having concessions training and since I really only learned by doing it, I want to know what I don't know...or teach them correctly on what they might teach the newbies incorrectly. ;)
Until later.
The concessions training went well. I learned a couple of things, mainly about where some things are stored in the kitchen area, but otherwise it was very informative.
-
There were five of us "taking" the training. I use quotes because there was actually only one person there who was not an experienced concessionaire. The rest of us were just brushing up on things.
-
It lasted about an hour we all had a good time.
-
I'd have a good time if we got off this damn page already.
-
Afterward, I went to Subway and had the meatball marinara sub.
-
It was quite delish!
-
Well, since we're so close...
-
PAGE FIVE DANCE!!
-
Gratuitous Post #121!
-
At least today isn't the ABSOLUTE lowest posting day.
