Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the Hour and the Tonys, and now it is time for you to post until the Tony Award-winning cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: STRIDULATE!
-
Sunday morning greetings! First after BK must mean it's a Lima day for us. See y'all when we get back!
-
I am relieved not to be first.
-
Glad that you seem to have found alternate accommodations, DR Jane.
-
Congratulations to your sister, DR Cillaliz!
-
Well, last night we did something we haven't done since 2006: we went to see a movie in a real theater with a real live audience.
-
In 2006, we tried to see Helen Mirren in The Queen in Westchester County, NY. The audience behaved revoltingly. Fights were breaking out, people were yelling; we missed the first 15 minutes of the movie due to all of this crappy behavior. The audience literally drowned out the soundtrack. People were ejected. The management refused to start the movie over. And we haven't been back since.
-
But last night, friends wanted to go to a movie. So we had three people over for dinner, and then we all went out to the movies. The movie was Spy, with Melissa McCarthy. (Not our choice). I couldn't believe the difference. It must be Minnesota.
The audience (granted, the theater was only about one-quarter full, but still) was quiet and respectful. No yelling. No cell phones or texting. It was amazing! And there is nothing like seeing a comedy with a large, live crowd.
I hadn't seen Melissa McCarthy in anything, and she was very funny. The movie wasn't great, but it was entertaining. A lot of graphic violence and swearing, though - full disclosure. But as a re-entry to the world of live audiences at the movies, it was a perfect evening.
-
TOD:
I predict that Tommy Tune will win a Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre.
And I furthermore predict that this will not be awarded on air during the telecast.
;D
-
Good morning, all.
Back to getting up at a more "decent" John Hour, thanks largely to the feline contingent.
-
I was just as happy to be rescued from a nutty dream, frankly.
-
Good morning!
-
Happy Tony Awards Day!
-
Yesterday I cleared a fairly large field in a wooded area adjacent to my driveway. There's a lot more to be done, but it's a beautiful start.
The space was wildly overgrown, but is invaluable for parking a few cars and for direct access to a friend and neighbor whose house is on another street. We both like having cookouts and whatnot, and enjoy some visiting back and forth. It takes one minute to walk from our door to his (and, amazingly, vice versa), but five minutes to get in the car, drive around the bend and turn up his street, get parked, etc. I'm always reminded of the apartment situation posed in one of Jack Finney's short stories about time/space travel.
Anyhoo, I'll do another few John Hours on that today. And when that's done, I move on to some other part of the property that needs attention. There are plenty of them.
-
I'm the worst person in the world at making predictions. They always get my choices wrong, and the world is in a sorrier state for it. I shall enjoy just watching the Tonys, making on-the-spot guesses, being wrong, and moving on.
-
And the word of the day is: STRIDULATE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: GIVE A LITTLE WHISTLE
-
The Tonys- Where Is Mark Bakalor When You Need Him ?
-
Good morning, all! I am having a home day. I will work on the Moross score for a while, then watch some DVD. I have litle interest in the Tonys since the only nominated show I've seen is On The Town, and I hope it wins. I look forward to seeing bits from the ones I haven't seen and to being pissed at the idiocies of programming that require air time for special stars like Josh Groban while half the Tony winners are granted no air time.
End of rant.
-
Just to clarify: the spoiler rules for tonight's HHW party apply only to naming the award winners, correct?
-
Is it NOT live on the West Coast?
-
I am hoping for wins in the Director of a Musical and Choreography categories for GUYS & DOLLS, a win in the featured actor in a play for ANTIGONE, and a win in featured actor in a musical for THE TROUBLE WITH ACCOUNTANTS....
I expect a big write in vote.....
-
Happy Sunny Sunday!
-
Good morning from Austin, all.
Yesterday was a long one. First dance was at 8:17 on the dot. I left the after party at midnight. And a good bit of dancing in between.
-
No Tony predictions, just a few wishes:
I would like to see Judy Kuhn win.
I don't think he has a chance but I'd like to see Tony Yazbeck win.
And I'd really like Chita to win.
-
Singdaw, I too enjoy going to see a movie but haven't been able to do it enough lately. I did make it to the new Mad Max and, for the first time, we had to get assigned seats instead of general admission.
-
Is it NOT live on the West Coast?
No, DR Jrand64. It is not a "big enormous deal" like, e.g., the Oscars.
-
Jrand, I'm writing you in on my self-print ballot from the local paper right now and will drop it in the mail today.
-
You'd think the accountants who tally the vote could be persuaded to give one to The Trouble With Accountants.
-
When did Mia Farrow change her name to American Farrow? (I predict a win for her tonight for "Love Letters.")
-
In the "should have" category, Tony Danza really should have gotten a nomination, as should the book and score for Honeymoon in Vegas.
-
Nancy Opel and Rob McClure are surprising omissions as well, unless you consider that they just decided to overlook the whole production of "Honeymoon in Vegas."
-
I quite enjoyed "Honeymoon in Vegas," much more than I ever expected.
-
good morning to all
-
I was also backstage at Hairspray at the same time as BK. This was actually the first time I met Bruce in person. I was seated a few rows behind him and went over to introduce myself before the curtain went up.
I had plan to go over to him and ask if he was in The First Nudie Musical and then ask if he was Alan Abelew. But I chickened out.
-
Backstage I met Harvey Firestein. I told he him we were in a movie together and he went Yuch! in his deep deep baritone voice.
-
It is too darn hot in Tacoma. I was up at six because Nicky was hungry, and he wanted me to know that he had thrown up on the living room carpet. I gave him breakfast, cleaning up his mess, and then got showered and dressed. I am meeting my friend, Sandy, for brunch, but then I am coming directly home. I will not be attending CABARET, because it is too darn hot!
-
CABARET, because it is too darn hot!
I didn't know that that song was from that show! ;D
-
Is anyone serving this at their Tony party? Is anyone serving this anywhere??
-
Not that I can eat it. But someone should.
-
We are about to leave for my niece's high school graduation party.
-
Gorgeous day here!
-
Glad that you seem to have found alternate accommodations, DR Jane.
Thank you. It is a shame the bed and bedding aren't better here. The people are nice and the room is fine. Bedding that falls off at night just doesn't work for us. Someone really needs to teach these people how to put sheets on a bed. It is laughable how much sheet is tucked in at the bottom and missing at the top.
-
It is a strange life we are living, staying in hotels but not on vacation.
-
Time to put shoes on and see if I can walk any distance.
Have a nice day!
-
Nap time!
-
Taking a break from brush clearing.
I'm sorely tempted to go see Goodspeed's GUYS AND DOLLS. It only plays till June 20.
-
I'm up in my bedroom, wating my non-hi-def TV, posting on my tablet. I won't be here on HHW all day, mainly because of the limited battery time on my tablet. It can't recharge as I use it...it needs to be turned off to charge.
-

I can't imagine a movie audience being that rowdy. I've never experienced one that bad...at least, not yet.
-
I'm up, I'm up after about nine and a half hours of sleep and some perfectly fun dreams.
-
FUN DREAMS - suggests you're subconsciously forecasting a victory for FUN HOME
-
BK, I believe I was there in the room when you correctly predicted Alice Ripley's Tony right to her.
-
Thank you, DR FJL. I hope you sent it special delivery to get there in time for computation.
Yes....I think someday THE TROUBLE WITH ACCOUNTANTS will be done again....perhaps I will be its lucky charm, and I will be included in the Broadway production.
I like the recording of HONEYMOON IN VEGAS.....
-
Thank you, DR FJL. I hope you sent it special delivery to get there in time for computation.
Good point. I'll fax it over right now. I forgot there's no mail pick-up today.
-
Just saw Victoria Clark being dressed by Anna Wintour, as well as Beth Malone. A lot of skin being shown, but really nice dresses.
-
I saw this on TV, of course!!!!
-
There's a report now on TV about June 15th estimated tax payments. The accountant said "If you're short, you may have to pay more by next Monday."
That just doesn't seem fair.
-
I just read this article about Tony predictions...they don't agree with BK's prediction:
http://my.xfinity.com/articles/entertainment/20150607/US--Tony-Predictions/
ACTRESS-MUSICAL
Will win: Kelli O'Hara. Should win: Kelli O'Hara.
O'Hara's role as the stubborn, strong school teacher in "The King and I" was blissfully sung and acted, a tour de force. Sure, Kristin Chenoweth in "On the Twentieth Century" was superbly quirky, and Chita Rivera was regal and chilly in "The Visit." But both those women have Tonys and O'Hara really needs to have one after a few years of exceptional work.
———
Mark Kennedy can be reached at http://twitter.com/KennedyTwits
I'd put my money on BK's prediction.
-
Well, I must be going. I'll definitely be back in time for The Tony Awards.
-
But before I go...
-
PAGE THREE DANCE!!
-
I am on Season Two of the Father Brown mysteries. is anyone else watching them? They remind me a bit of "Midsomer Murders" with at times more humor. The one i'm watching now has a bit of Rear Window meets Mapp and Lucia, a killing at a summer fete with fighting over the best cakes and pies.

Absolutely. Will do. This week, for sure.

Back from a jog and cleaning up the yard.
-
Back from a long Lima day. Listened to a lot of rambling stories from elderly parishioners...
-
Saw "San Andreas" this afternoon. It's really not his fault there are Earthquakes.
-
I am intrigued by this film DR ARNOLDMBROCKMAN.
Thanks again DR FJL.....yes if the IRS is penalizing taxpayers by height, it is indeed egregious.
-
Page three? Really?
-
Golf is running over.....not sure that CBS will cut short its Evening News or 60 Minutes.....
-
My friend Kristi, who some of you met at the NYC Kritzerland shows, is at "Anthocon" (http://www.anthocon.com/) this weekend. She just called to say she had mentioned Kritzerland in some conversation or other, and someone shouted "Kritzerland! Bruce Kimmel!" His name is Hal Bodner, and he's waving HI from Portsmouth, New Hampshire as we speak.
-
Oh.....60 Minutes started on time....so Tony Awards should be on schedule.
-
Watching the Tony red carpet on playbill.com.
-
Tony Yazbeck was asked to name his favorite Tony moment and he answered "We'll Take a Glass Together."

There was some discussion of needing passports for Canada. I know a little bit about this... For the last several years a passport book or passport card is needed. Alternatively, there are a few states, including New York, that issue "enhanced driver's licenses," which are acceptable. I know that DR Kate has one. When you live in the Buffalo area, it's not unusual to go to Canada for the afternoon or evening. The passport card and enhanced license are only good when traveling by land or sea. You need a passport book when flying.

I'm sure you're right about this, DR Kevin, but I saw no mention of it on Canada's website. It said that California residents don't need a visa, but said nothing about a passport or special driver's license. Harrumpphh. I'll look again. I used to vacation in Canada rather often.
-
Glad that you seem to have found alternate accommodations, DR Jane.
Ditto. It may feel like a vacation once you have a good bed.

I watched a bit some time back, but was a bit disappointed. I had read the stories and enjoyed them. Maybe that was the problem. I was planning to try them again. Same thing happened with Mapp and Lucia; I LOVED the books, but didn't like the adaptations.
-
Nice photos, DR JohnG!
-
Congrats to Cillaliz's sister!
-
Watching the Tony red carpet on playbill.com.
I'm watching the red carpet on http://www.tonyawards.com.

I haven't gotten one yet, but Washington state has the enhanced drivers license.

Congrats to Cillaliz's sister!
Congratulations!

Having trouble posting again.
-
Don't know if it's been posted here, but the Something Rotten cast recording is for sale on amazon today for $3.49. For the download, not physical album.
-
My posts about trouble posting always go through. :(
-
Thanks again DR FJL.....yes if the IRS is penalizing taxpayers by height, it is indeed egregious.
I agree. Let's all file paypal claims.
-
I think one of the servers must be hanging up, but just for a couple seconds at a time.
-

I saw that and ordered it. I will still order the physical CD, though. It was just too cheap to pass it up.
-
You must have had quite an exhausting day, John G. Fine photos, though.
-
Is Hal related to Amy Bodnar of The Brain from Planet X at NYMF?
Different spelling, so I guess not. Was he involved with the Robby Awards in a previous incarnation? It sounded like that's what he'd said.
-
I didn't realize this, but you can buy the 2012-2014 Tony Awards broadcasts on iTunes. If I didn't already have them on my own DVDs, I probably might, but I do, so I won't.
-
Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the Hour and the Tonys, and now it is time for you to post until the Tony Award-winning cows come home.
How can the cows win a Tony; and Jack can't even get a nomination?
-
And here are the Tonys.
I'm on the iPad, unfortunately, so can't post very prolifically, but I'M STILL HERE.
-
Four minutes in and I am already sick of the Tonys.
-
All ready for our stumble-through and then the Tonys.
-
TCB, how are you doing? Ie, can you see well enough to read the posts? :)
Seriously, how is your "new" eye doing?
-
I thought the host choices were terrible, frankly.
-
Alan Cumming wearing short pants?
-
Oops! I hope that wasn't too much of a spoiler!
-
That's right. No spoilers!
-
Four minutes in and I am already sick of the Tonys.
Oh, no. :(

Enjoyed the number from "Something Rotten."

Watching the Tony red carpet on playbill.com.
I was, too! And now we're into the broadcast.
-
Leading Actress in a Play.
-
I am hoping that Brad Oscar wins for SOMETHING ROTTEN, but I doubt he will.

I used to get loaded when I made mashed potatoes.
On Tuesday, the Washington Center for the Performing Arts is having their annual volunteer appreciation dinner/event. I was told that this year they're having a mashed potato bar, where you get mashed potatoes in a martini glass, then you can add any toppings you want. Sounds delish!
-
I'd go see SOMETHING ROTTEN.
-
Congratulations to your sister, DR Cillaliz!
Thanks Singdaw and everyone else. I saw her today, she is very excited
-
Enjoyed the number from "Something Rotten."
I did, too. Hated the hosts' number.
-
Could not find anything on the Canadian websites.
Got a "page not found" message. Then it said something like, "Keep exploring. That's what travel is all about." Really!
I did find this, though:
http://blog.americansafetycouncil.com/enhanced-drivers-licenses-what-they-are-and-where-to-get-them/
Four states--NY, Washington, Michigan, and Vermont--have the enhanced driver's licenses, which contain a radio-frequency chip. If you have one you don't need a passport to enter Canada. I guess the rest of us do now. Sigh. Travel was so much easier before 9/11.

It's lots of fun, DR Ginny!
-
I bought the SR music, but I can't get it to download to my computer.....so we shall see if I ever get it.
-
So last night the cats were acting weird. I thought it was because it was storming....no, it was because I had another bat in the house. AHHHHHH~~~~~!!!!! First time in years, but I shrieked and screamed and grabbed my butterfly net and got it. I took it outside and after a little while it flew away. I'm really hoping it went somewhere else. I'll call the bat proofers tomorrow
-
DR Vixmom, I think you can download the kindle app on your nook. But she's going to sell a printed version this fall.
-
Did not like the hosts opening....and the pandering to Harvey W.....
To me, KC is so grotesque looking that she is not even like a real person.....
The SR number was fun and the first winner gave a very nice acceptance speech.
-
Oh here is something that is supposed to be funny but is just wasting time.
-
Well THIS makes my night....>NOT
-
Featured Actor In a Play....one my categories....
-
Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play.
-
Well....winner by association maybe.
Not me!
-
I like that everyone is dressed up!
-
Here comes THE KING AND I.....
-
Nice speech.

HammerSTEEN?

The King and I number.

HammerSTEEN?
WHAT??
-
Congrats to Cillaliz's sister!
Thanks!
-
I really want to see The King and I. I hope to see it when my friend Paul comes to NY in October.
-
Such beautiful costumes!
More dumb stuff from the two cartoon-like hosts.....
-
So much dumb stuff.
-
I'm already muting the commercial breaks.
Noise noise noise noise noise.
Shut the HELL up with your noise.
-
Ok Caught up with today. Went to the lake today as my sister is visiting my mom and dad. Of course I've been up since 4:00 AM so it's been a long day
-
Watching the Tonys but I haven't seen any of them. Not quite the same
-
I'm eating pastrami, in case anyone's wondering.

Commercials.....new comedy coming to CBS this fall.....
-
Kelli O'Hara sang a wrong lyric: AND I've now become an expert . . .
The correct word is BUT, I do believe. Nothing in this excited me. I thought it not as good as SOUTH PACIFIC. And Irene Sharaff's original costumes are better. Kelli needs a better corset.
-
Oy.
-
Featured Actor in a Musical....another of my categories.
-
Featured Actor in a Musical.
-
That Oy was to what's happening on stage, not to Elmore's post.
Which I think I'd agree with, anyway.
-
Shut out again....
-
Nice speech by the winner.
-
I was rooting for Christian and Andy Karl, nice guys.
-
What is this, the Oscars?
(that outfit)
-
Featured Actress in a Play.
-
Featured actress in a play.....good choice.....bad dress....funny speech.
-
On The Town.....
-
Song from "On the Town."
-
Good to know DR ELMORE.
Andy is easier on the eyes.
-
Great to hear this music. . .
-
I think ON THE TOWN would be much more exciting to see and hear LIVE than on television....
-
I really want ON THE TOWN to win.
-
They have threatened us with a Chenowith performance.....
-
It just might DR ELMORE!!
-
Good to know DR ELMORE.
Andy is easier on the eyes.
i saw Andy play H.G. Wells in a reading of a wonderful musical version of TIME AFTER TIME
-
It just might DR ELMORE!!
I think KING & I will take it. i hope not.
-
I thought Brad Oscar sounded really great in the Rotten number.
-
Taye Diggs looked great, until he stuck his hand in his pocket. What's up with that?
-
Lackluster "salute" but here comes THE MAN.

I used to vacation in Canada rather often.
http://canada.usembassy.gov/traveling_to_canada/passport-requirements.html (http://canada.usembassy.gov/traveling_to_canada/passport-requirements.html)
Thanks, Cilla.
Hope it helps
-
Direction of a musical.....another one of my categories....I hope DR FJL's votes got counted.
-
Well, if they couldn't give him his award on the air, it was nice that they made him a presenter.
-
Minnesota also has the "enhanced" driver's license.
-
bk has said this before, but the Radio City Music Hall is too big for the Tonys. It loses the immediacy and theatricality, not being housed in a real Broadway theatre.
-
Oh dear.....not my choice....even if it wasn't me.....
The composer of the musical is such a hack.....
-
Direction of a Musical.
-
At first I thought there was a real live orchestra in the pit. But no. It's just stray audience members.
-
Do you have an acceptance speech prepared, DR Jrand64?
Just in case?
-
Do you have an acceptance speech prepared, DR Jrand64?
Just in case?
:)
-
And what are you wearing, JRand? Did Anna Wintour advise you as well?
-
Wow - at first I thought that was a real staircase - pretty impressive. But now I think it's just a digital projection.
-
I agree, DR Jrand64 - KC's "look" is quite extreme.
-
I could have sworn that Alan Cumming said "George Gobel" was coming up. I realized it was Josh Groban.
-
Yes my speech is ready....choreography is my last chance for a win.
I am wearing a nice Jerry Springer Security T-shirt and black shorts....w/sandals.
-
Gee Gee?
I thought it was Zhee Zhee....but I could be wrong.
Nevertheless, that number was pretty charmless. Is the whole show like that? I thought I was watching Cole Porter's Can Can there for a second.
-
Ms Clark is neither Colette's Mamita nor Hermione Gingold. It also really pisses me off that we have to watch numbers from non-nominated productions. Is this so Harvey Weinstein can bring back FINDING NEVERLAND again? It was bad enough last year.
And who wrote the shitty new lyrics for Alan Jay Lerner?
-
Same thing DR KEVIN H.....have you heard JG's new CD?
-
VC has some weird teeth stuff going on too.
-
DR ELMORE don't non-nominated shows PAY to have numbers on the show?
-
My, I'm testy tonight!
-
Orchestra, DR singdaw? You want to see an orchestra? An ORCHESTRA in the PIT? At the TONY AWARDS SHOW celebrating LIVE MUSICAL THEATER?
-
Best score? I can't stand it.
-
Jennifer Grey and Joel Grey!
-
Same thing DR KEVIN H.....have you heard JG's new CD?
Yes, I like some of the songs very much.
-
Cilla, look at what you missed!

Do you have an acceptance speech prepared, DR Jrand64?
Just in case?
Everyone should...for every occasion.
;)
-
DR ELMORE don't non-nominated shows PAY to have numbers on the show?
I thought that all shows had to pay...that's why you rarely saw nominated, but no-longer-running shows on the broadcast. They didn't have income to justify the payment.
-
I agree, DR Jrand64 - KC's "look" is quite extreme.
Is that the very short white dress I saw on the NYT red carpet? It reminds me of a toilet paper tube.
-
New American classic......
-
At least it has Michael Cerveris in it.
-
Best score? I can't stand it.
Tell me about it.

Direction of a Play
-
Richard and I will skip FUN HOME, thanks.
-
I am thisclose to calling the sheriff on the idiots that live in the apartment above mine. I can't stand them at all. I've tried to be understanding, but this is out of line. I really don't like calling the police, but if this keeps up for another hour, I've had more than enough.
-
Thanks for the heads up, DR George, about past Tony broadcasts and iTunes.
Hope they'll add more years going forward!
-
Dan M, some people only understand authority, such as visits from the cops.
-
Oh I missed a couple of things.....I ran down the street to see if the firetrucks were at my brother's house.....
But they were at the house next door to his....a backyard burn got out of control....
-
Crap, DR Dan M. I'm sorry.

LOL, Actually I knew all about it. ;0
-
Dilemma: I would like to see Michael Cerveris.....but I don't want to suffer through more Jeanine Tesori claptrap.....the story looks interesting....but......oh well....

That's what the police are there for....maybe you will end up on COPS!

My outfit was perfect for an episode had they also been called to the fire.

I hadn't heard about it. But then I never hear about LA events. How did you hear about it?

Fire trucks leaving....crisis averted. If I was a TRUE Facebooker, I would have taken photos and posted them already.

Oh boy....here comes....KC.....only not the one with the Sunshine Band.

Glad it WAS crisis averted.

Thanks for the heads up, DR George, about past Tony broadcasts and iTunes.

First time I've seen someone read her speech from a smartphone!
-
She did not keep her publicist working hard enough this year!
-
Larry David is looking very serious.
-
First time I've seen someone read her speech from a smartphone!
O...kay.
-
I just cannot warm up to KC.....which infuriates the fangirls.....sorry.....
-
I am not sure that that disjointed presentation represented the show to its best advantage.
-
Glad that your brother's house & family are OK, DR Jrand64.
-
I am not sure that that disjointed presentation represented the show to its best advantage.
I think that's been the case with several of the shows...
-
No Tony for me again this year....oh well...
Here comes STING.....politics enter stage right.
-
Choreography - kind of an upset? It was going to be one of the two big dance shows.
-
Thanks DR SINGDAW...it was scary until I put on my shoes and walked down the street.
-
I'm sorry to tell you, you didn't get Choreography, DR Jrand64.
-
Is that one of the Smith Brothers?
-
Oh. You already heard!
-
Best play......
-
Best Play.
-
Thanks anyway DR CHAS SMITH
-
Play doesn't look like something I would like....
Here comes CHITA.
-
Chita Rivera!
-
I enjoyed Chita.
-
I liked the song....but I guess I need to see the show to understand what's happening. I know the play....
More FINDING NEVERLAND? Really....REALLY???
-
Yes, theatrical legend Jennifer Lopez is up next!
-
Those digital backdrops looks great in the medium and long shots. It's only in the close-ups where the magic dissolves.

Yes, theatrical legend Jennifer Lopez is up next!

Congratulations, DR Jrand64 - you finally got your due! :)

Wow! I am out of touch.....they revived a play I have never heard of.
-
Best revival of a play.
-
Thanks everyone......I wore my best nail polish.

Off to watch a movie.
Good night!
-
FINDING NEVERLAND . . . blah.
-
Well that was the most unintentionally hilarious presentation intro I've ever seen!
-
*Yawn*

Don't try to stand in wild hair girl's place even if you're Peter Pan-ish.

Blah and Yawn.

Um, no...

It's about time, Jrand! It was definitely due!
;)
-
I was rooting for Christian and Andy Karl, nice guys.
I have a lot of catching up to do, but I was rooting for Andy Karl, who was great as Rocky and I hear he's hysterically funny in Twentieth Century without copying Kevin Kline.
-
45 minutes to left coast broadcast.
-
Best revival of a Moo-sical
-
Gee Gee?
I thought it was Zhee Zhee....but I could be wrong.
Nevertheless, that number was pretty charmless. Is the whole show like that? I thought I was watching Cole Porter's Can Can there for a second.
Except for the fact that Cole Porter's Can-Can is anything but charmless.
-
I think what offends me most about FINDING NEVERLAND is that James Barrie was an intelligent, if troubled, writer who had a vocabulary. knew his grammar, and wrote some lovely plays beyond PETER PAN.
In this pathetic musical he sings pop drivel.
-
"America's Sweetheart, Harry Connick, Jr."
-
Best Revival of a Musical.

Ms Clark is neither Colette's Mamita nor Hermione Gingold. It also really pisses me off that we have to watch numbers from non-nominated productions. Is this so Harvey Weinstein can bring back FINDING NEVERLAND again? It was bad enough last year.

Anybody who pays can be on the show.
-
Kind of a surprise.....sort of....
-
DR ELMORE don't non-nominated shows PAY to have numbers on the show?
The nominated shows also have to pay, from what I understand.
-
Best musical revival? Damn!
-
Most obvious toupee award goes to this guy.....
-
Prolly so DR JOHN G.
-
And finally......
-
David Hyde Pierce.

It Shoulda Been You.

Thank you, sir.
-
Yes loved the dance pictures from DR JOHN G
Thanks. I obviously can't take any of myself, but if I get any more, I will post them.
-
Lisa Howard sounds good. I enjoyed her William Finn album.
-
Best musical revival? Damn!
My sentiments exactly. Damn and yawn.
-
That looks like a show that will have a LONG life.....
-
By the way, to backtrack for a moment - other than box-office appeal, why do they have Matthew Morrison rend his garments?
-
We have damn and yawn, and blah and yawn.
-
Yes DR JOHN G - Can Can did have charm.....to spare.....or DOES have charm I guess I should say.
-
That might be the ONLY reason DR SINGDAW.....
-
Stumble-through was really fun, and now I'm cooking up some Wacky Noodles to eat whilst I watch.
-
Wonderful postings so far. I think I can gather that if neither of the dance shows won that Casey did. But thanks to all for observing spoilers.
-
Just heard my next door neighbor has a bat problem. I'll be calling the bat proofers tomorrow, there must be a crack or hole somewhere that they are getting in
-
Leading Actor Play!
-
Nice win for what must be a good play.....
-
I am so happy for best actor!
-
That's trippy.
-
Nice speech. Didn't like Judith Light's outfit, though.
-
Nice speech.
Oh here comes Pretentious Rashad.
-
Nice speech. Didn't like Judith Light's outfit, though.
Judith Light won best actor in a play? ;)
-
In Memoriam...
And that's the closest that real instrumentalists will ever get to the ceremony.
-
In Memoriam Segment.
-
Same problem with the camera pulling away so you can't read all the names easily.
-
Same problem with the camera pulling away so you can't read all the names easily.
Yep. Unbelievable.
-
Now - finally! - a real touch of Broadway magic! :)
-
Same problem with the camera pulling away so you can't read all the names easily.
Yep. Unbelievable.
How rude!
-
That was nice - I guess.
-
But I agree with the other DRs - would have preferred something more simple that didn't detract from the names in the segment.
-
When did Josh Groban turn into Mandy Patinkin?
-
Twenty minutes till we start here on the West Coast. Noodles are cooking. I'm always amazed when I turn on the TV before the Tonys and see that 60 Minutes is still on the air. Is it the longest-running show in TV history other than late-night?
-
The fact that they shoved Josh Groban into this show is so typical of how stupid the people who put this show together are. These people are NO help to the ratings, ever, so why do it?
-
When did Josh Groban need autotune more than ever? Worst. Segment. Ever,
-
The fact that they shoved Josh Groban into this show is so typical of how stupid the people who put this show together are. These people are NO help to the ratings, ever, so why do it?
Maybe Josh's people paid to have him there.

Bernadette Peters!
-
Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical.
-
Leading actor musical.
Wow....I think Bernadette's dress looks like one we've seen already tonight.
-
I like this win......
-
Interesting...
-
Best Actor in a musical! I am surprised by this one.
-
Neil Patrick Harris.
-
Best Actress Musical.....
-
I liked some of the numbers and I thought the winners spoke well. I do believe this broadcast had the most pathetic hosts and framework I can remember.
-
Leading Role in a Musical--Actress.
-
Best actress? Awful win. I was not impressed by the clip.
-
Well there you are!
-
Agree, DR Elmore.
-
Oy! Damn it to hell.
-
She's very charming, and I love her speech.
-
KC's acting isn't so good that she isn't meaning what she's saying in the close out to the commercial.
-
There have not been any egregious sound mess ups tonight....we usually have a few.....so there is that.
-
It's actually ending early? That's a first.
-
Eight minutes.
-
Well, I'm now going to switch from my desktop computer (in the room with my dead TV) and move back up to my bedroom and log in on my tablet. I'll at least be able to watch the broadcast...no hi-def, but at least it's TV. :)
-
Best musical....seems almost like an afterthought after what has gone before....but we shall see.
-
Larry David and Jason Alexander.
-
Larry David's very funny!
-
Well that's which way the wind was blowing....
Has any HHW DR seen the show? Perhaps they can enlighten us tomorrow.
-
I guess the winner isn't a surprise.
-
I wasn't expecting that win.
-
Did all of those people get out of a Volkswagen?
-
Best actress? Awful win. I was not impressed by the clip.
Definitely not a fan.
-
Larry David's very funny!
Too long.
And was the best musical any surprise? I like the composer as much as I adore Victoria Clark.
-
I guess the winner isn't a surprise.
I didn't think so, either. Of course, I'm just reading from a list since I don't have TV.
-
I want a red suit!
-
Almost over. Only a couple of minutes late.
-
I want a red suit!
You can have mine, DR Jrand64.
-
West Coast - take it away!
-
And now, the news.
-
Thanks DR CHAS SMITH......does it have lots of room to be let out....so to speak.
-
I think I will watch MISSION IMPOSSIBLE - the tv show - on ME Tv

-
Would love to stay for some west coast Tony talk, but I've been up since 5am and did not have a nap. And I have an early, unpleasant dental appointment tomorrow.
'night!
-
No word yet from bk on the opening moments. He must be dumbstruck with awe! :)
-
Bright and early ~ ~ ~ DENTAL VIBES ~ ~ ~ for DR Ginny tomorrow morning!!!!
-
Well, I tried to log onto my tablet in my secured wi-fi, but I couldn't get on. I had to switch to the non-secure wi-fi. :(
-
At least I'm on-line.
-
Leading Actress In a Play...Helen Mirren.
-
Well, the opening number probably sent anyone who'd tuned in running for the hills - they're trying to get an audience and ratings and they send out Alan Cumming in a purple little boy's suit? And Kristen - well, too damn skinny. And Radio City is the WORST place EVER for an awards ceremony.
-
I'm a little behind on the broadcast.
-
Then we had that number from Something's Rotten. Cute, but boy after what I'd heard they must not have done the whole thing or I don't get what is driving people mad. The musical quotes - I was doing this, I hate to say, back in 1981 - yes, 1981 - in Together Again in the song I Hate Musicals - we spoofed steps and musical quotes from everything running back then. Why is this meta crap so popular - I guess it makes people feel in the know when they recognize something. And finally, this laugh track and screaming is hilarious - they cut to a wide shot of the audience sitting there looking dour and you hear screaming, cheering and laughing. From where?
-
Is anyone serving this at their Tony party? Is anyone serving this anywhere??
I used to get loaded when I made mashed potatoes.
On Tuesday, the Washington Center for the Performing Arts is having their annual volunteer appreciation dinner/event. I was told that this year they're having a mashed potato bar, where you get mashed potatoes in a martini glass, then you can add any toppings you want. Sounds delish!
I have been to a couple of weddings where they had this there was a choice of Idaho mashed or mashed sweet potatoes. They they had selections such as chives, sautéed onions, sautéed mushrooms, cheese, bacons, sour cream, gravy, brown sugar, butter, marshmallows, and chopped nuts
-
I am on Season Two of the Father Brown mysteries. is anyone else watching them? They remind me a bit of "Midsomer Murders" with at times more humor. The one i'm watching now has a bit of Rear Window meets Mapp and Lucia, a killing at a summer fete with fighting over the best cakes and pies.
elmore, I watch them. Find them pleasant enough. Prefer Midsomers.
-
Oh, my Lord in heaven. The attempts at humor are horrible - and yes, how hard is it to pronounce the name of a legendary man of theater like Oscar Hammerstein? And I'm sorry, but from the looks of it, this King and I is not a patch on the buttcheeks of the revival I recorded with Donna Murphy. They need two classy hosts, and should stop trying to be funny and just have fun and move things along. If they can't show Tommy Tune getting his award, but need to show this horribly unfunny crap between the hosts, well...
-
Wow, the prodigal Pogue returns. Now maybe I'll send him and his frau a big box o' stuff.
-
Goodnight! I'll be interested in the West Coasters' opinions on the Tony Awards.
-
At least I'm on-line.
I was for a bit, but even though my wi-fi signal was stong, I kept getting error messages that I wasn't on-line. I moved my modem/router and hopefully this will fix it. I can only hope.
-
My outfit was perfect for an episode had they also been called to the fire.
Oh, did you remove your shirt and run your hands through your hair so it stops up on end?
-
I am proud to say that I didn't give in to my anger and call the cops. Instead I focused my anger into doing something constructive. Plus, playing Bernard Herrmann pretty loud kind of gets the point across. (I did make a call to the information line at the Sheriff's office, and spoke loudly enough, just in case the walls have ears.)
-
Is anyone serving this at their Tony party? Is anyone serving this anywhere??

So last night the cats were acting weird. I thought it was because it was storming....no, it was because I had another bat in the house. AHHHHHH~~~~~!!!!! First time in years, but I shrieked and screamed and grabbed my butterfly net and got it. I took it outside and after a little while it flew away. I'm really hoping it went somewhere else. I'll call the bat proofers tomorrow
you're a better man than I, Gunga Din
-
Christian Borle for Featured Actor in a Musical.
-
I would have run screaming into the night
-
They really should bring back NPH to host.
-
Alan Cumming...those shorts...I can't even
-
Someone feed Kristin a sandwich
-
I passed by the CBS channel here, momentarily paused, didn't like what was done with the Tony program, and kept moving.
-
For me the lowlight so far was when someone in the audience wolf whistled when the King put his hand on Anna's waist. Grow up, people!
-
Ann!
-
Pogue's thoughts on the Tony's. Bring back Doogie Howser. Chenowith and Cumming, both performers I have liked in the past, are almost becoming parodies of themselves and their bits are forced and tortured. Something's Rotten's title is apt, if the number performed in any indication of the rest of the show. Mirren was fine in THE QUEEN, but I would have given it to Carey Mulligan in SKYLIGHT. Glad SKYLIGHT won best revival, loved the original production with Michael Gambon and Lia Williams, loved the revival; hard to believe that this is the first Tony awarded to any of David Hare's brilliant plays. Pleased with everything THE CURIOUS DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME won. Hated design and book writer, lyricist, and composer award happening during commercial breaks. And Tommy Tune's lifetime achievement award is done during a commercial break so we can get a tatty dance number "honouring" him instead? MGM did GIGI and AMERICAN IN PARIS better. FUN HOUSE looks like the most interesting musical in the pack. Instead of the Tonys, why don't they just do a "Highlights of This Season's Broadway Musicals", as this is nothing but a three hour commercial for them; as always straight plays get slighted once again. So many musicals numbers I feel I'm watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade again. The show was largely are real shrug and "who cares?"
-
Good to you see you back, Mr. Pogue and Ms. Ann.
-
They seat nothing but kids up in the upper balcony and I'm pretty positive there's someone up there leading them on. It's disgusting. In the old days when the awards were held in real theaters, none of those types were there.
-
I thought On the Town looked good - I have a DVD of it here and should probably watch it.
-
So, it looks like I need to stand right next to my cable modem/router to get a signal. I don't know what happened for the wi-fi to crap out on me. My dead TV shouldn't have anything to do with that.
-
And I really, REALLY cannot stand the laugh and cheering machine - it's pathetic, actually, and it's a lie and all you have to do is actually look at the audience - applauding nicely, with sound that is the opposite of what they're doing. Perhaps Alan Cumming can do another forty gay jokes before the evening is done.
-
Good night, all.
-
I thought On the Town looked good - I have a DVD of it here and should probably watch it.
[/quote
It did look good, but you also have a great composer and lyricists! And it was very well performed.
-
Got a bit of a second wind here, threw a load of laundry in, popped open a Coca-Cola Zero, and am enjoying following along with the West Coast.
-
Just glad I don't have to actually see the thing again.
-
Best director of a musical, Sam Gold for "Fun Home."

That's an interesting outfit.
-
Hello dear Bruce!
I don't understand why producers are allowed to pay for spots to promo their shows, even ones who didn't get any nominations. This whole thing is turning into a giant commercial.
Liked the On The Town number though
-
The amount they have to pay is obscene, but Harvey Weinstein would have killed people if he wasn't allowed to purchase a spot for his show. And I'm glad they're reporting grosses of over a million a week just as I'm equally glad not to believe a word of it.
-
I cannot state loud enough my loathing of the Gigi number - a choreographer, director and cast who haven't a clew as to what that song is about.
-
Page fourteen? Really?
-
"Fun Home" won best score.
-
My next pen name: Gee Gee Hammersteen.
-
You'll say a better DR has never sat a gee.
-
Why is best score done during a commercial break?
And why the #%^ is Kristn dressed as ET?
-
Marianne Elliott for best director of a play, "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time"

Love the black nail polish Jack...or did you bang your fingers with a hammer during the last set strike?

Good questions...very good questions.
-
And congratulations on your win!

:D

I would have run screaming into the night
I was too scared to run into the night...had to get it out of here. Now I learn my next door neighbor has bats. I'm kind of hoping they live in her house so when I get this one sealed up they won't come back, Just hoping one doesn't come back tonight

So why wasn't "An American in Paris" nominated for best choreography? Is it all recreated from the movie?
-
Reading everyone's posts and their comments are not surprising. Most if not all awards shows are not produced properly, seemingly by people who don't have any feelings about what the show represents. And, because of that, the wrong hosts and write-by-the-numbers writers are attached. Instead of focusing on the meat and potatoes, such producers are more concerned with adding mind-numbing musical numbers, almost as time stretchers and time fillers. Producing by following a pattern and selling said pattern with canned laughter and canned applause. I'd bet a good percentage of those in the audience won their tickets on a radio station and haven't a clue what the Tonys are.
-
The choreography for American in Paris is all original. I hate projections - I'm over them. It looked okay in its number, but I've watched the first fifteen minutes of the DVD I have and it hasn't engaged me yet and I've yet to see any example of it actually having a book.
-
I'm not a fan of the composer of Fun Home and this number didn't change that - in fact it sounded like any number of other things, including her own Violet. But I thought the young girl was terrific and I'm always happy to see Beth Malone, whom I adore. One other point of interest - two of the supporting actors in a musical appeared in Outside the Box in the same episode - Brad Oscar and Brandon Uranowitz.
-
Triple digit heat on the way according to the weatherman on CBS. Good, that might mean rain.

American In Paris...Kelly and Caron did it better and they had heat between them. These two were technical cardboard.
-
Ruthie Ann Miles for best featured actress in a musical, "The King and I," and she's the one to read her speech from her phone.
-
No one can top Gene Kelly, period.
-
They let her go on for a long time!
-
It is so lovely to see Ann and Charles posting!
-
I saw exactly nothing of the awards. Vixdad was engrossed in Columbo and I did not like to interrupt him
-

Yes! Welcome back!
-
Did NOT like the Twentieth Century staging or performance - and more PROJECTIONS - what has happened to set design.
-
I said after watching the first fifteen minutes of American in Paris that the Gene Kelly guy is like a strutting peacock, full of himself. Kelly's brashness and freshness came from an actual personality.
-
Page fifteen? Really?
-
So why wasn't "An American in Paris" nominated for best choreography? Is it all recreated from the movie?
Oh...not only WAS "An American in Paris" nominated for best choreography, it won! The ballot that I printed from Playbill.com didn't print Christopher Wheeldon's name or the show's title. Strange.
-
"The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" won best play.
-
Didn't like The Visit's number much.
-
Best revival of a play...Skylight.
-
Wow, this is phenomenally bad.
-
I like Kelsey Grammer, I like Matthew Morisson...but that number was flat out awful
-

Projections AND microphones down the sides of their faces. :P
-
Finding Neverland - one of the worst pieces of tripe I've ever seen and I've seen a LOT. Just start with that sickening microphone running down his face - um, this is a PERIOD piece - want to take me right out of your show, then be stupid like that. But the music, the lyrics - the WORST. Now I truly believe those million dollar grosses are not real.
-
And yes, more projections - probably makes Harvey feel like he's bringing the movies to the stage.
-
If they are real, it is because of the sheep who go to a show just because a "TV star" is on stage, and I have no use for that.
-
Insipid lyrics, boring melodies...ugh
-
I like Kelsey Grammer, I like Matthew Morisson...but that number was flat out awful
Over-produced, over-orchestrated, overwrought! Trying to cover up for the fact that there is no there there....or in this case, no song.
-
For some reason, my laptop says it can't connect to the Internet. And I am too stupid to know how to fix it.
-
Best revival of a musical..."The King and I"
-
I am on Season Two of the Father Brown mysteries. is anyone else watching them? They remind me a bit of "Midsomer Murders" with at times more humor. The one i'm watching now has a bit of Rear Window meets Mapp and Lucia, a killing at a summer fete with fighting over the best cakes and pies.
We didn't get the show to watch it but plan to when Netflix has it.

Let Us Forget About The Tony Awards For A MInute And Think About The Academy Awards Next Year. I Have Just Been Blown Away By A Movie That Should Win Several Awards Next Year LOVE AND MERCY. This Is The Story Of Brian Wilson(THE BEACH BOYS) and It Is The First Time(IMHO) That The Best Actor Award Will Be Shared for Playing The Same Role By Paul Dano(Young Brian) and John Cusack(Older Brian) The Two Of Them are Equally Magnificent. The Movie Is Not Your Usual Bio-Pic. It Is Something Very Special.Go See It !....And Now ...Back To The Tonys.
Thank you for suggesting the movie. We will try and go before the end of the month.
-
Nice pics DR John.
-
Glad that you seem to have found alternate accommodations, DR Jane.
Ditto. It may feel like a vacation once you have a good bed.
That's for sure.
-
Terrible song from It Should Have Been You. I do enjoy Tyne Daly because she's a pro. And I am ready to scream at the TV every time they press the "cheering" button and you see people sitting there applauding politely. Shameful and shameless and this show needs to be retired or completely put in someone else's hands.
-
Jeanne, I am sorry I missed your question. My distance vision is the best it has ever been, plus those famous vivid colors; but it will be easier to adjust to the whole thing when the left eye is also corrected.
-
I am thisclose to calling the sheriff on the idiots that live in the apartment above mine. I can't stand them at all. I've tried to be understanding, but this is out of line. I really don't like calling the police, but if this keeps up for another hour, I've had more than enough.
I am sorry it is that bad.
-
Hi Tom!
-
Best lead actor in a play...Alex Sharp for "The Curious Incident..."
-
I made it to page 13 and gave up. I can't keep up with all the posts
-
'night.
-
The In Memoriam section.
-
WTH?? You can't read some of the names.
-
Josh Groban was so necessary. Not.
-
Having all the show companies sing was really nice, but they needed to make all of the names readable.
-
Josh Groban was so necessary. Not.
I don't mind having a live singer, but don't feature them...get them started then get them out of the way.
-
I mind when that singer has nothing to do with Broadway.
-
I mind when that singer has nothing to do with Broadway.
Well, there is that.
-
Lead actor in a musical, Michael Cerveris for "Fun Home".
-
Lead actress in a musical, Kelli O'Hara for "The King and I".
-
That was the reason Josh Groban was hyped all evening???
-
I liked Kelli's speech.
-
Well, I guess I need to actually be there and see them in person to tell them if they're going to win. Sorry for Beth Malone.
-
Page sixteen? Really?
-
Best musical, "Fun Home"
-
They're playing them off! How rude!
-
And the ended with Jersey Boys.
-
The other thing I don't care for is when a winner is all choked up and emotional and looks like they're breaking down - with nary a tear in sight.
-
Three hours that seemed like six.
-
I ate a few too many Wacky Noodles - I didn't think I'd made that much but I guess I did - not nearly as much as usual, though.

Yup...I always wonder about that.
-
Oh, let's get to 500 postings, shall we?
-
Larry David was amusing.
-
Page seventeen is amusing.
-
I just realized that I could've (and should've) done some laundry today.
-
But I didn't even think about it.
-
I was too concerned about watching the Tony Awards without my hi-def TV.
-
Oh, well...there's always tomorrow.
-
Well...
-
...let's...
-
...see...
-
...if...
-
...I...
-
...can...
-
...get...
-
...to...
-
...post...
-
...500...
-
...before...
-
...it's...

GRATUITOUS POST #500!!
:D
