More vibes to Jrand's dad. Sounds like a good sign.
Here's a somewhat offbeat listing of L.A. restaurant memories and half-memories for a few of you to mull over:
First, some coffee shops whose names are unknown but I have nice memories of a few visits:
The one (Greek-owned or named?) in the same block -- and destroyed in the same fire -- as M'Goo's on Hollywood Blvd.
One on the north side of Franklin near Wilcox (early '70s).
East side of Robertson around Third or Alden or maybe up near Melrose (late '80s).
North side of Wilshire near Doheny, in the first floor of an office building, which we thought might have been a Stats (mid '70s).
South side of Wilshire in Westwood, first floor of a building between the Federal Building near the 405 and Westwood Blvd. (late '70s).
Johnny's Steak House on Hollywood Blvd., just east of the House of Pies at Whitley. I think it had a less than stellar reputation, but for me it was a part of the incredible and lively landscape of the Boulevard. Early '70s.
New York George, way east on Fountain Ave. -- I see it's now something else entirely, but I remember going down there a few times and eating a weekend breakfast on the patio whilst pursing the Calendar and View sections of the Sunday L.A. Times. So-so food, but enjoyable. Late '80s.
Nibbler's Restaurant, north side of Wilshire in the Hancock Park district, maybe near the Carnation Building (?). Again, on the first floor of a commercial building (the one at S. Hudson looks possible). Late '80s.
The Bratskellar in Westwood, which I only ate in once or twice in 1972-73. I loved it, but all I remember is that whatever I had was some kind of sweet-and-sour type of chicken or beef dish that was very yummy.

~ ~ ~ CONTINUED VIBES ~ ~ ~ for him, DR Jrand64!!!
When is the actual surgery, DR Cillaliz - Wednesday morning?
Well, DR Cillaliz, you know we are sending you all kinds of
~ ~ ~ SUPER MEDICAL AND RECOVERY VIBES!!! ~ ~ ~
Kind of like Tinkerbell.....I believe!
It just started a minute ago on the Hallmark Channel.
But it runs for 3 hours. :)
No offense to DR Ginny or anyone, but I am more interested in watching Hallmark Channel's PAW STAR GAME than the All-Star Game!
I expect Craig will be watching the game. We won't.
I really interested in the preface festivities, which I'm watching now, and in how Fox showcases Cincinnati.
I'll put it on like that's what I want to watch all night. Of course I won't leave it on long, but can't wait to see the look on his face.
Oh! is baseball on? Two of our Explorer's are playing for CanadaI expect Craig will be watching the game. We won't.
I am watching the Pan Am games.
I really interested in the preface festivities, which I'm watching now, and in how Fox showcases Cincinnati.
I'm sure that will be interesting!
Cilla - so you'll read Go Set a Watchman before journeying with Miss Hofstetter??? :)
DR Cillaliz, if you're having a general anesthetic, don't plan on being able to concentrate well for a while.
This clip picks up where the other left off. Here you can see A Countess from Hong Kong is at the Pantages - and Hotel is at the World, which means this would be 1967.

In this wonderful black-and-white clip you'll see my beloved Pickwick Books on the left and then Diamond Jim's. Playing at the Hollywood is Seven Women so this is in 1966 - and directly next to the Hollywood you'll see my beloved Coffee Dan's, home of the lettuce wedge and the Dodger burger.

I think they must be using laser lights or something to get the cats to run the bases, but I don't see the red dots, they must have edited them out.
Kevin, don't know if they are all makes. There are a few with names like Button, don't know if that's a girl or boy

"Driving Miss Daisy" with Angela Lansbury and James Earl is on some PBS stations this Friday, the 17th.
I must say it was kind of nice to have something to get all worked up about today. I had to do something with my nervous energy.
SURGERY VIBES FOR DR CILLA!!!
But it runs for 3 hours. :)
LOL, I'm going to record it and when Paul comes over tomorrow, I'll put it on like that's what I want to watch all night. Of course I won't leave it on long, but can't wait to see the look on his face.

I need to figure out how to get a grip on searching and bookmarking that collection of clips.
Just took a peek at a daytime color NYC one with 1962/63 movies up and down Times Square...
And NO STRINGS...
Thanks everyone for the thoughts and vibes. I have a very good feeling about tomorrow.
I know it's been awhile since my last post, but recovery is not as easy as I thought. I'm still on a soft/pureed diet, fighting through nausea at times. I can only dream of regular meals. I know I have lost weight. No more painkillers either. Once I get back to regular meals I'm hoping to gain some weight so I don't look so hungry. Please continue sending your good thoughts and vibes, and if you can, donations. The medical bills just never stop. Thank you!
Am listening to a cue from "Mission to Mars", one of my favorite Ennio Morricone scores.

Could I ask you for a copy, kind sir?
Apparently it's Dorothy Fields' birthday.
And here is what has become of my father's restaurant at 3474 W. 8th Street - should be a head on view of "grand opening" - at least they've cleaned it up - I may have to go down there and check it out :) If you drag the view to the right looking west you'll see a corner yellow building next to a red building - that whole thing was called Carl's Market - there's a beauty salon next to the restaurant - that was a barber shop, where my father got his haircuts once a week. If you drag to the left the corner building at the other corner was the drugstore where I bought all my paperback books.
