I hate hot weather.
Good morning. I actually got to the trailhead at 5 a.m. today. Well, I got to where the road is closed for construction or something. So I couldn't hike after all. Sigh. I haven't been able to get out early enough this summer.
Sing, I had no commute. My office was half a block from our apartment. We're on 16th between 5th and 6th and the office was at 79 Fifth Avenue between 15th and 16th Streets.
For the first time in 31 years I have to commute to the office. The next 8 years (I'll retire when I'm 70, I'm 62 now) will be quite different. The new office is all the way downtown in the Financial District. The address is 32 Old Slip. It's a block from the East River and a 5 minute walk from the end of the island.
Today I took the R to Whitehall, the last stop in Manhattan. Tomorrow I will try the 2 or 3 to Wall Street and I will also try walking. It's a 45 minute walk from my apartment and today it took 25 minutes by train.
I hate hot weather.
I am home from my doctor: good cholesterol, good blood sugar, good blood pressure, lost 2 lbs. Back in three months.
DR Ben, the commute would really piss me off. Subwats ar rush hour are no fun. What's the bus situation like?
DR JANE glad to hear that you are happy with your new home.....
Hot day here in Oakland CA yesterday.
The condo got a bit toasty before I turned on my portable A/C. Thanks goodness for A/C!
Today will be the first day in the new office. It will be a major change. We are in the trendy "open plan" layout. There will most likely be lots of fallout the first week.
Ginny, when/if you come to visit you will certainly be surprised. The library is half the size and so much more I won't go into here.
That's it for now.

Okay, here's some Hollywood Boulevard. I kept the files huge to retain detail, so rather than shrink them, here are links.
The B&Ws were taken in 1973, the color in 2004.
(In the first shot, the part of the block east of Musso & Frank's, including M'Goo's and the Greek coffee shop I've mentioned, is what burned down around 1975, and none of those places ever came back.)

And here's what had become of BK's Coffee Dan's by the time I'd moved there. It's the hamburger place. Really sad. (That's the Warner/Pacific building at the left.)

I am used to referring to our home as a house. It seems strange to say condo. Does anyone refer to a condo as a house? I've been saying home more often now.

Those are some amazing pictures, ChasSmith. I wish that there was an Olympia version of that book.
His Broadway theater career began in 1957 and included performing as M. Lindsey Woolsey opposite Angela Lansbury in the original cast of Jerry Herman’s “Mame” and as Owen O’Malley in “On The Twentieth Century.”
Whatever you call it, DR Jane, I'm glad you're happy there!
I had a friend from the 70s call me last night. He had connected on facebook. When I posted about my surgery he said he'd call. I thought oh, how nice. Then he called and wanted free legal advice an to tell me all his problems for about an hour. Good grief

Now that's a friend!
One of my best friends only calls when he wans to cry on my shoulder. we;ve been friends since college and I love him, but I could be at death's door and still not get him to focus on my problems. On the more positive side, I can always rely on him when I need someone to fetch me home from hospital, colonoscopy, whatever.
DR cillaliz, i am happy the excursion to court caused no physical problems, but stay in tomorrow.I will Dr DR Elmore. Or I'll take a little excursion to the grocery or something like where I won't be standing as much as I was today. I do need to go for my walk. I did one this morning and should do one more tonight. I went from two blocks to four blocks and today should be six blocks, I walked four this morning, I'll walk another 2 in a little while

I've said "condo" (my preferred term), "apartment" (this is what the post office prefers) and "house." Take your pick. :)
Thanks for all the vibes. Today showed me I'm doing the right thing by staying home. It's a relief to know that
I feel so good at home, but when I actually went out and was standing and walking a lot, it was a different ball game
DR Jane, so glad you are happy you made the move. When you make a decision that big, it's important to be happy about it. Also cool you seem to have your own personal pool since no one else uses it

Today a UPS package I expected on Wednesday arrived along with a check I expected tomorrow or Wednesday. Maybe i should go play the lottery?

The bus wouldn't be much better. I would need to get to Second Avenue and take the M15 and then walk. With morning traffic it is just as long or longer than the Subway.
Thanks for all the vibes. Today showed me I'm doing the right thing by staying home. It's a relief to know that
I would not have needed a trip out to confirm that fact ;)
Continued healing vibes!!!

I guess he figured you had nothing else to do ::) You should have pretended to be dopey on pain meds and said you were falling asleep.
DR Cillaliz - hope the cats are snuggling with you through all of this.
That's the best set of photos of Penn Station I've ever seen.
My neighbor's son was outside when I went out so I had him come change the water bottle on my water cooler. Very glad about that

I have been reading Jean Pierre Aumont's memoirs Sun and Shadow, which is absolutely delightful. His chapters on Vivien Leigh's mental struggles and breakdown during TOVARICH are fascinating and generous, given her treatment of him, and his tales of working with Cocteau, Jouvet and others in the Parisian theatre of the 1930s are amusing and spellbinding.
So, there's this neat little website about LA restaurants - not very complete and kind of half-assed, but with some nice photos here and there. They have Kelbo's and there are nice comments and a photo of a matchbook inside with locations. Now, as far as I and just about everyone who went to Kelbo's knew, there were two locations - TWO - the real one on Pico in West LA and the other one on Fairfax south of Beverly across from CBS. Well, batten down the hatches, me hearties, because there were other locations - I really can't believe it, actually, but they're listed so they had to be real - the THREE other locations were Brentwood on San Vicente and 26th, Manchester and - wait for it - a mile from my home on Ventura one block east of Woodman on the south side of the street. It's a kindergarten now and who knows if that was the original building or not. The question is WHEN was it there, because the menu I have and all the other stuff I've found online only list Pico and Fairfax. I love these little mysteries, don't you?
Five!Six!
I'm too tired to count.
And speaking of bed, where is Jane?
