Well, you've read the notes, the notes were not on the Mary Jane cigarettes, and now it is time for you to post until the Mary Jane cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FUMAROLE!
-
First post after BK (again).
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good to hear the news from Laura last night.
-
Good morning, all! I am back to Columbia this morning. I have about six numbers left on the Moross score to check out with the full scores.
I saw the film of A Simple Plan on video several years after it was released. The film missed the tone of the book, which I purchased the first day it was released because of a great review in New York magazine. There were two great reviews in that issue, but I no longer remember the other book. I remember several things about A Simple Plan, which I liked very much as a novel: the accuracy of the northern Ohio terrain around Toledo and State Route 75 and how much I recognized the small-town characters, farmers, and trailer trash druggies from my Ohio life.
-
Good morning, all.
I'm not sure why it's Monday, but Monday it is.

I'm not sure why either, but it is.

Monday. I do have some shopping to do.
TOD:
The Usual Suspects
And I am sure I will think of more......
-
Good morning.
-
Good morning, DR Laura. Very glad to hear your MIL good news.
-
The DH's cabaret concert yesterday was extremely well received. It was in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the local summer theatre program. The hall seats just over 500, and there were well over 300 in attendance.
-
I am off to the dentist this morning, myself. Get thee hence, DR vixmom!!!
-
Thanks for all the good vibes. It was announced a few hours ago that I have been named as a co-editor of the online journal of the Minnesota chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. It is a volunteer position, but I know I will enjoy being in that community, promoting choral excellence, and interviewing a lot of cool people. Plus I love writing and editing. So I think this is a good thing.
-
Great news, singdaw!
-
Monday morning greetings! We're expecting my cousin Perry and his wife in an hour or so for brunch. I made an egg casserole last night that I'll put in the oven soon. I've been to Central Pastry this morning for assorted sweet rolls. Perry & Pam are bringing cut-up fruit. After we eat and visit here, we'll go out to visit Mom.
-
Congratulations to DR Singdaw on the new gig!

DR George we stopped watching Falling Skies last week.

Congrats to DR SINGDAW on his new position.....lots of contacts....and it certainly could lead to a paying gig someplace doing what you enjoy!

DR CHAS SMITH your educational DVD arrived today, and I shall take a look at it this evening after rehearsal. Thank you so very much.
-
Good morning, all.
Back from an all-too-brief weekend. Many posts to catch up on.
-
I don't remember hearing about the book "A Simple Plan" before seeing the movie, which I disliked. I really don't care for Fonda and found Thorton soppy, sloppy and over the top. But surprisingly, there are images that stay with me. I wish they wouldn't.

TOD:
Titanic
Star Wars
The Last Emperor
Million Dollar Baby
Satyricon
An American in Paris
Crash
Forrest Gump
Platoon
and so many more

Another vote for
AN AMERICAN IN PARIS
And I will add:
Tootsie
Sleepless in Seattle
Any Pirates of the Caribbean movie
Any Tim Burton movie EXCEPT Ed Wood.

To go back to an earlier TOD I missed:
Both Destry and Grand Hotel were based on novels that became movies, but I believe the movie brands were what drove the musical adaptations. I never saw Destry, but I love the score; and Grand Hotel is one of my favorite musicals.
I did see Flashdance live. It followed the textbook of how to write a successful musical. It covered all the bases. But it had no heart and there was nothing remotely memorable (at least in a positive way) about it.

Good news about your MIL, DR Laura. Vibes for her continued improvement.

"Grand Hotel" was also a successful European play. I'm guessing its New York success led to the film.

My favorite of the handful of Tommy Tune-directed shows I've seen. Oh, and it had that Brent Barrett person in it. :)

Richard, Rob, and I had a nice visit with Perry and Pam. As planned, I called Mom to tell her that the cousins and I were about to leave here to visit with her. It was no surprise to me when she, tearfully, told me that she just isn't up to company today. Next time I see her, she'll probably be complaining because no one ever visits her ::)
-
Next time don't tell her, just show up.
-
No, DR Jane, that's worse...
-
I'm up, I'm up. I was up until four in the morning, finally fell asleep, and then came a knock on the door at eight-thirty - a tree worker asking me if that was my car parked in front of my house. I said, "No, all the cars in front of my house belong to the selfish people across the street so go wake them up." I went back to bed and slept another hour and a half - so maybe I got six hours of sleep. Maybe.
-
I was actually in bed and ready to sleep by two. And then my brain began to have ideas - I've been trying to write a new What If for our anniversary show in September. I had one idea I was working on but wasn't in love with, but something came to me last night that just made me laugh, so I got up and started writing it. And kept on until I was eighty-percent through. I picked an extremely complicated thing to do and as you know I have to be true to the form of the song I'm parodying and in this case it's as hard as any I've done, but I think it's pretty clever and it's certainly out there. I'll finish when I'm back from eating.
-
Hey, all! Been a long time, but I hope everyone's been well.
TOD:I don't see a lot of movies, but "Lost in Translation" bored me to tears. "Crash" was incredibly disappointing, but there was enough in the visuals to hold some of my interest.

According to IMDB, "Grand Hotel" was based on William Drake's English version of the play. The Greer Garson-Laurence Olivier version of "Pride & Prejudice" is based on Helen Jerome's Broadway play, not the Austen novel. I believe "First Impressions" is credited to Jerome's play as well.

Yeah, the play provided the framework, even if it cut the characters of Mary and Kitty Bennett. Guess that cut costs and any attempt to have to explain who they were.

Every time I see today's headling, abbreviated to "The Heady Aroma of ..." I think of that great Larry Hart lyric, "The faint aroma of performing seals."

I shall soon be on my way to the blocking rehearsal for Act One Scene Three.

Hey!

Lost in Translation

The Godfather (loved the second one, though)

I shall soon be on my way to the blocking rehearsal for Act One Scene Three.
The other day, the "Vintage New York" page on FB had a whole thread on William Gillette.
I've been going through the 2006 Archive of HHW, looking for at my posts about my dad's cancer, trips to Ohio, and the Macbeths.

Back from some bacon and eggs and then a jog, then picking up no packages. One hour until rehearsal.

Well, I'm feeling, sadly, that I'm right about the Annette Funicello home - it's empty, vandals have been spray painting graffiti on the windows - all the foliage is gone now and I just Googled and found that it sold last June for 900,000 bucks (a 1400 square foot two-bedroom house!). That may have been an auction price because there was NEVER a for sale sign on the house at any time. So, I fear the heavy equipment will be showing up and a classic and unique Studio City home will bite the dust and be replaced by a monstrosity.

Oh no. That's terrible.

We're having a heat wave...
A tropical heat wave...
The temperature's risin'
It isn't surprisin'
We'll be running the AC the rest of the week! ;)

DR George we stopped watching Falling Skies last week.
I don't think there's much left of the season, so I plan to watch it to the end.
-
Topic of the Day:
There are a lot of highly praised films that I didn't care for, but I don't think I could say that I couldn't stand them. I don't usually have very strong opinions like that with movies. There are a couple of TV shows that I've felt that way about, but not movies.
-

This is sad, and worse that you will have to live through the work.

I thought we could as well but, for us, it has just become too predictable and we knew we weren't like where it was headed.
-
Today I drove for the first time since we left Ashland. I don't enjoy driving and as you might recall we sold my car. I went the short distance to Fred Meyer's and back. I'm sure the practice is good for me.
-
Oh, no...True-crime author Ann Rule dies at age 83 (http://my.xfinity.com/articles/entertainment/20150727/US--Obit-Ann.Rule/).
-
Two of the most overrated films i can think of are 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY and APOCALYPSE NOW; I loathed them.
Yesterday, I spent six hours watching the wonderful BBC version of Dickens' The Pickwick Papers, which was a total delight. it cheered me up no end. The casting was perfection.
-
I kept waiting...and waiting...and waiting...for the payoff in "Lost in Translation".
Folks have told me I didn't get it. What's to "get"? I got it. I understood the characters and where they were and how they connected.
The only thing I didn't get or care about was what was whispered between the two characters in the last shot.
I've read endless commentaries on what might have been whispered.
To which I have always felt, "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn!"
I want my two hours wasted back.
-
Good evening!

Page 3!
-
I meant: Page 3?
-
Rain today, temps not too high. High nineties in a couple of days. Ugh!
-
Watching "As Time Goes By" on PBS. Love Judi Dench in anything!
-
Page three? Really?
-
Rehearsal is done. Went mostly very well.
-
Well, I need to be going. I have some things to do before I go home.
Be back later.
-
But before I go...Gratuitous Post #80!
-
Be back later.
You can go, but be back soon. :)
To quote Fagin.
-
Thanks, everyone, for the congrats.
-
I don't really have anything else to report at present.
-
It is very hot and humid here for the next few days.
-
Watching "As Time Goes By" on PBS. Love Judi Dench in anything!
And this series is especially delightful.
-
TOD:
The Departed - too many f-bombs, and Mark and I started laughing when the Jack Nicholson character just would die already
The Matrix - too much gratuitous violence
-
Congratulations, Singdaw.
-
Thanks, DR Laura.
-
Enough with page 3.
-
4 is more like it.
-
Although that's not saying much.
-
Dentist appointment went fine this morning.
-
I have a blood test tomorrow morning.
-
I really know how to live it up.

Good evening. Today was a very busy day at the office. I had to stop and see a judge about 830 - then I went to unload the work I had brought home. There was one client waiting in the entry way....his appointment was at 10 and this was 8:45! So I met with him early and then the next was waiting, two others dropped in, then I had a hearing in the afternoon and was pooped out by 3:00. I ended up talking to someone in the office next door for a little while then headed home.
-
I'm glad I'm back, but I did get tired and was glad I came home early
-
We had a storm at about 5 or 6 am. I managed to go back to sleep until 7. Tonight we're supposed to have a storm at 4 am. Good grief. Can't they come at reasonable hours?
-
Better get to sleep. I'm sure it will wake me up
-
Finally home after five hours of dance classes. I'm exhausted.
-
Congratulations, Singdaw.
-
Gratuitous post 102.

Yup. Another dose.

Must go to bed.
-
Good night, all.
-
Well, this is bad!
-
Congratulations to SpongeBob; and his hubby!
-
Where is there to go Billy, but up!
-
It is Hell trying to dance when you don't have a partner.
-
Actually the lack of partner is only one problem I have with dancing.
-
Poor Nicky tried to wake me up but I fell back to sleep.
-
Nick just gave up and we ended up sleeping together until 9:30
-
Boy was he hungry.
-
Boy was I tired.
-
I have actually been tired all day.
-
I didn't take a nap, but I could have easily.
-
Why are you so tired?
-
I am glad you asked.
-
FIVE
-
Well five is better than four.
-
But six is better than five.
-
But six is better than five.
Forget it!
-
I will settle for five an a half.
-
Or about that.
-
I wish I had my Dragon Speak and Spell in here.
-
I can talk for days
-
Or I can talk four days.
-
Why do I watch this American Ninja program?
-
I guess because it is mindless.
-
I can watch and type without getting confused.
-
Or more confused.
-
Health vibes to all who need them.
-
Especially Vixmom and her tooth.
-
And Cilla and her, well minus her gallbladder.
-
I see I got a new message from Dan, but I haven't read it yet.
-
But thank God, he is sending messages.
-
Oh, I think I passed up 5.5.
-
So, I can't count.
-
140
-
1 No, I won't do that.
-
I need to go take my pills and use my eye drops.

Hopefully George will get here and finish the page.
-
I don't want the whole page.
-
G'night!

But thank God, he is sending messages.
Yes.

Back from the meeting I decided to attend. Very interesting and there was a report that was very enlightening.

Be back later.

And since we're so close...

PAGE SIX DANCE!! Tonight, the Rumba!

-
So, a friend of mine posted a message on FB that REALLY seems like it should've been a private message! :o
I sent him a text and hopefully, he'll delete it. A few others have commented on it, questioning the appropriateness of the message.
We'll see what happens. :-\
-
Now, it totally could be an inside joke and he really doesn't mind that it's on FB, but it just doesn't seem like it...to me, anyway.
-
But six is better than five.
Check!
-
Well, my friend just texted me back and I told him what he posted. He'll either delete it or not.
-
It turns out that it was supposed to be a reply to a private message, but he was on his phone and didn't realize that it actually posted on FB. Oh, the trials and tribulations of modern technology.
-
Hope I can get the notes up in a bit - Time Warner has been spazzing out for the last forty minutes - very erratic.

I would prefer a DVD or Blu-ray instead of a digital download. But that's just me.
