Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of a new What If, and now it is time for you to post until the What If cows come home.

Lucky Stiff, the movie, was financed by people who didn't care if they lost their entire investment, clearly.  It's been sitting on the shelf for three years.  I wouldn't call the Times review good, but they lucked out getting a twentieth stringer as their critic.

DR CHAS SMITH I watched the DVD last night.  It was most informative.  I liked the lead actor....there didn't seem to be a lot of audience response, but that could have been the way the sound was recorded.

A couple of the performances were not so hot.....Madge and Felix.....and the women's clothes were all pretty terrible.  The handsomest man played Simon, as it should be, but his trousers were about three inches too long.....and he was placed on the wrong side of the stage for his hairline most of the time....

BUT it answered some questions for me.  Thanks so much for sending it along!

Post by: ChasSmith on July 28, 2015, 07:10:29 AM
DR Jrand64, a few people around here are in agreement with you about a couple of those performances.  And this was the second play in two seasons in which a guy's pants or suit jacket were too long.  A fine actor in THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO wore a fine suit, but it looked like he'd just taken it off the thrift shop rack.  Sets and costumes here are usually splendid, and those things stick out.

They record on opening night, so there are always some one-time flubs.  Such as the timing of the Act I blackout which completely lost its punch and was wonderful every other time.  Too bad.  I've told them many times I don't agree with ONLY recording the first performance.  Do it if you want, but capture another one or two more refined ones later.  (They do it this way so they can give the cast a copy at closing night, but they should still get other ones.  If I were President of the World...)

I've never been a big soda fan, but if I had to pick one from my youth, I'd say root beer. My favorite snacks were Cheetos (the puffy kind) and Bugles. My favorite candy bar was the 100 Grand bar. Surprisingly, all three of those snacks are still around.

Post by: Jrand74 on July 28, 2015, 07:17:11 AM
Definitely.....DR CHAS SMITH....other nights are usually so much better.  A disc only costs ten cents.  Madge knocked over and broke a wine/champagne glass, too, near the end of scene two....tight quarters in the Gillette mansion.   :D

Their stage must not be very deep....the perspective out the window (doors) was wonky.....and their thunder sounded like pots and pans rattling and nobody wore a coat in from outdoors.....in December.....

www.freesound.org has LOTS of free sound effects to download and use.....I love some of their thunder.....

But other than that, I liked the play.  Mrs. A. Lincoln

Wink, a grapefruit soda from Canada Dry, was my favorite as a kid. Love Mexican Fresca now. It's similar.

Chicken in a Biscuit was a favorite as was caramel corn among snacks. But those were for special occasions. Celery, radishes and apples were more common, and I still snack on them a lot.

Hey, all!

I only know Nehi as a crossword puzzle answer... it still exists? Good to know.

Growing up, I was a big fan of spicy chips. Deli's jalapeno chips and BBQ Dipsy Doodles were the faves, as I recall. No particular soda favorites, although I always went for the root beer when a selection was offered.

I'm sure that they also listed it on the realtor's website(s).  It's a lot easier for potential buyers and their agents to just peruse websites and then go look at the best candidates, than for the sellers to rely on signs on front lawns.

Ours did, not that we had any intention of putting a sign up.  You don't have to and we didn't want one.

Our realtor mentioned our home at her office and had numerous request to see it.  Then she mentioned it at a general monthly realtor gathering and received more requests, which is why we sold our house in 3 days before it was ever listed.

I still don't get the "hunting for sport" mentality.  There was an episode of "Northern Exposure" where John Cullum's character wanted to go hunting, and maybe his very young wife didn't want him to kill any animals (that's the part I don't remember), but he ended up putting a camera on his gun stock and was able to "shoot" his animals by taking pictures.  I do remember that it was a great episode.  That's what everyone should do...just take pictures!

Private listings are a common practice in communities where real estate prices are very high.  This prevents the realtors from dealing with "window shoppers"...folks who want to look but can't afford to buy.

I do not understand the mentality of hunting for trophies.  There are people dying the husks of elephants so the ivory hunters will leave the elephants alone.  It is sad to see them that way but at least they are alive.

The realtor we used talked about what she did to be sure anyone looking at our home was qualified to buy.  High end home or not you don't want people wasting your time or just browsing.  We were surprised to see an open house at the condo two floors above us.  You want a realtor open house but I don't believe too many people buy something at an open house.

Well, this is really cool...Oh the horror! Film shooting in southeast Olympia (http://www.theolympian.com/news/local/article28422904.html).  The female director (who also starred in it) graduated from Olympia High School and wanted to make a horror movie that could appeal to other female horror movie fans.  They just finished filming last week here in Olympia, Centralia and Tacoma, and it sounds like a movie to watch out for.

What brought me to that article was that I just read another article about someone who turned out to be one of the actors in that locally filmed horror movie:  Fugitive’s role in horror film leads to arrest in Olympia (http://www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/crime/article28713010.html)! :o

Evidently, one of the actors ("who was well-liked by the cast and crew") skipped out on his probation after being sentenced to 117 months for armed robbery.  He was recognized after the above article was in the local paper.

Yikes, DR Jane, I'm glad you're OK!  When my book group was here last week one of the ladies had that happen with an almond.  I almost had to call Paramedic Rob, but she was able to cough it up.

I was eating at my new desk and need to find a more comfortable position.  I also one of those clear floor things for my desk chair so I can glide over the carpet.

I just bought one of those at Staples so my chair can glide over the edge of an area rug onto the wood floor under my desk.  It's working beautifully!

TOD:   Canada Dry Ginger Ale, pretzels, fritos

Canada Dry sounds good right now and I wish I had some.  Fritos, as much as I enjoy them, would likely hurt.

I'm having a nice glass of Caymus Cab right now. Ready to relax and enjoy it. And maybe another after that.

DR slingshot, are you going to picket the offices of big gamer dentist Walter Palmer?  The scumbag should be in prison.

I agree, if he's guilty. And by his comments, he is.

He should be extradited to Zimbabwe, apparently they want to prosecute him

Private listings are a common practice in communities where real estate prices are very high.  This prevents the realtors from dealing with "window shoppers"...folks who want to look but can't afford to buy.

Open houses are a good way to see something without pressure. I always tell the realtor at an open house that I'm just looking and not buying. Several have said thank you and they all have stories of people who weren't interested monopolizing their time when a real potential buyer was there.  Often they say the eventual buyer was at the open house or referred to them by someone who was at the open huse  So, you never know.

So, I ordered the soundtrack to the TV show "The Librarians (http://www1.screenarchives.com/title_detail.cfm/ID/29049/THE-LIBRARIANS-TV-SERIES-FREE-AUTOGRAPHED-COMPOSER-BOOKLET/)" from Screen Archives because they have copies of the booklet autographed by the composer for no extra cost than the regular CD.  I went to their pre-order section and saw a listing for this soon-to-be-released soundtrack:  At Long Last Love (http://www1.screenarchives.com/title_detail.cfm?ID=29463)!

I also found it listed on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0114RYNE6).  Can it really be??

So, I was going to my car to go to Gelson's and I hear something and turn around and see something climbing up to the roof of the house.  I knew it wasn't a squirrel - too big - and then I saw there were three of these critters, and then three more - I told them to get the hell out but apparently they don't understand English very well because they all just stared at me.  So, rather than get into a tussle I just left.  I'll have more to say in the notes, but I just went to Google and found out what it's all about.  Unbelievable really.

I have choked many, many times in my life.  This was the first time I was scared.  Chewing soft bread will usually push whatever is lodge in there down, howver, this time I feared bread would also get stuck.  I also didn't think I had enough time to thaw a bit of bread.

I was making god awful noises alternating between trying to get it up and getting air down me.  It finally disolved and went down.
