Title: SURPRISING SAMI STAITMAN
Post by: bk on September 28, 2015, 12:06:32 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes surprised Sami Staitman, who will actually be reading them later today, and now it is time for you to post until the surprising cows come home.

I don't know how this got by me as I've been following it for the past two years - but here is a rather amazing statistic - REALLY amazing.  At some point in the past year, we passed 1,000,000 posts on this here board.  Yes, you heard that right - one MILLION posts.  I think that's pretty astonishing, don't you?  In fact, were 29,000 posts over a million.

Now, let's see if we can get to two million posts by the end of today.  Puuuuuush.

For Welcome to My World CDs - if you Indiegogo'd and are a dear reader, you must let me know if you want the title - I got all the PMs here about signed copies so John, George, Singdaw and Chas Smith are all getting the CD and signed.  TCB ordered it and asked for a signed copy, so he's getting one.  For anyone else, you MUST let me know that you want it so I can add you to the list.  This will normally not be the case, but on this particular album it is.  If you ordered it and it's not part of Indiegogo and you want it signed, just let me know.  Also, please let me know WHICH Indiegogo it is - if you donated to the Welcome to My World campaign, obviously it's a perk there.  If not, then it's a perk for the Kritzerland campaign.

I remember some of last night's dreams and they were humdingers. In one, my brother Macbeth made an appearance, along with a black and white cow, who made my life miserable in the apartment. It was friendly but ,like a huge cat, it climbed everywhere, and I remember checking the kitchen cabinets looking for something to feed it.

Last night I watched Episode 3 of season 6 of MIDSOMER MURDERS, "Painted In Blood," which was the second episode in the first six seasons to be relatively lighthearted and funny. I liked it very much, especially coming after the demented wacko killer children.

So, today's plans include a trip first thing this morning to the post office and, if I get the notes from the musical arranger-director, a look over these two charts.  i have some DVDs to put away before I leave.  I checked the week forecast for the weather: rain on Friday, which isn't my idea of fun since I may be driving to my brother's in a downpour, not to mention hobbling about in the rain with luggage and a cane.

I need to call SherpasRus.

TOD:

The most hilarious mishap I ever witnessed on stage was in a production of THE DESPERATE HOURS.

Prior to the climatic scene between the father and the lead convict (as played in the movie by Fredric March and Humphrey Bogart), another escaping convict neglected to drop his gun on stage.  Therefore, the father (March in the movie) was empty-handed in the final scene.  He had to go upstairs and "request" that the Bogart character release his son that he was holding hostage.

A total nightmare for the actors.

I had to look up who Hunter Parrish is, too.  Checked his filmography, and I know none of that.

And...  I'm sorry, but...  born in 1987?  Nobody is born in 1987.  Get outta here.

At a Reprise! performance of "I Love My Wife", Vicki Lewis came out during the second act and had forgotten to zip up the back of her dress and it was one of those long zippers that went all the way down to the top of her butt. She had to do a big dance number with Jason Alexander and Patrick Cassidy with her dress unzipped, poor thing. But it was pretty darn funny.

I was doing a play with my former wife (before we were married), THE GRASS IS GREENER.

They made a movie out if it with Cary Grant, Deborah Kerr and Robert Mitchum.  I was doing the Mitchum role.

I had a line: "I'll talk to him after everyone's gone to bed."

On this particular night, the line came out: "I'll talk to him after we've gone to bed."

That's the only time I ever broke up on stage.  It was also the last time I ever acted on stage.  I was 22.

Probably ALL of Dame Edna Everage's interactions with the audience....particularly when she examines their shoes.

But she also passed out lovely gladiolas to some members of the audience and had them beat time to the music with them.....one very tall African American gentlemen had his gladiola broke so he just had a stem....and he was always off the beat.....Dame Edna said: "Well that dismisses a couple of long held myths...."

DR Elmore, what are your departure and return dates?

FYI, a sadistic twist of fate has determined that I, too, will be in SW Ohio next week -- but getting away from family obligations for that event or even for a get-together looks to be well nigh impossible this visit.  Do these things get taped and made available for our viewing pleasure at a later date?

I leave here on Friday morning Oct 2, around 9:30, and return the evening of Oct. 9.  This morning I contacted everyone at Miami University.  I have a full day there:  Alumni Center and alumni magazine office at 10:00, library Special Collections at 11:00, lunch at 1:00, and then something with the students after that.

On Tuesday at 10, I speak to the Wright State University students on theatre orchestration history and musaical theatre reconstruction/restoration.

Wright State has asked me about taping me and I accepted; I believe the Colligan Project will so some sort of recording.

Our poor former dear readers (who now apparently include Ben, who doesn't even make a cursory post ever anymore) are all atwitter about Facebook being down.  Too bad they can't come back here to post.  Their hands are probably shaking :)

I don't think Ben's a former DR.  It's my impression that the new job location, travel time, the workload, and stress have screwed up his former schedule.

Ben has never been on Facebook.  But you know what - all of us here have busy schedules, workloads and stress, travel time, job location issues - if you want to post, you post, it's pretty simple, and his usual "I'm eating oatmeal" posts take exactly how long to make?  Three seconds?  It's comforting to see those posts but he's been gone for months now and when you do that it's doubtful there will be a return.

I don't mind saying I'M crabby in the past hour because my week-old modem/router is giving us fits.  Fortunately, it manages to reset itself, but it's just as well a technician is coming out tomorrow to check everything over thoroughly, and even replace the son of a bitch (again) if necessary.

It's like an irritating Facebook page come to life.  I don't even KNOW some of them. If you came to see my dad, go see him and leave.

They both look good and are doing well.  We found our directions needed revising as the one known for getting lost did and it was partially our fault.

Awww, Facebook has been having outages today - people are DYING because they cannot access it - they're taking to Twitter because they cannot for one second not be connected.

I didn't hang around long enough to worry about it, plenty of other things to do with my limited time on Keith's computer.  At the moment I am using his iPad.

Keith likes the first appointment in the morning to have his car worked on.  6:30 to leave after barely sleeping was too early.  At least the moon and sunrise make it worth it.  I can barely see straight right now I am so overtired.

Oh my Lord in heaven - what is it about Facebook that turns people into complete and utter morons and drooling sheep, who will share anything they see without doing the five seconds it takes to see that what they're sharing is fake.  There are TWO old, ancient Facebook memes making the rounds today and it's just mind-boggling the sharing that's going on - I shame everyone.  It's my duty.  One is the old saw that if you post this malarky about you're letting Facebook know you don't give them permission and ownership of your posts, which is completely bogus and pointless, and the even stupider one that Facebook is going to start charging you five dollars to keep your page private.  Both of these have been around for years - and today, some really intelligent people just followed the herd - there's never been anything like this that I've seen in my lifetime, although I suppose it's happened all through history, with people just becoming mindless followers who will simply jump on the bandwagon.  I have unfriended several people today because they didn't like that I and others were taking them to task.  Yes, not just me.  And they simply would not acknowledge they were wrong and stupid - so bye bye idiots.  I really do think it's time to trim the old "friends" list down to the bare minimum.

I made about four ounces of spaghetti with a tiny bit of butter and cheese.

So did I.  But it was more like eight ounces.  And instead of butter, I accidentally spilled a can of Skyline Chili and beans and a heap of freshly diced onion and a nice layer of grated cheese on top of it.  Well, accidents do happen, so what's a fellow to do?  I ate the mistake to get rid of the evidence.
