Well, you've read the notes, the notes had hysteria and were for the masses, and now it is time for you to post until the hysterical cows come home - they're currently having a bout of the herd MOOntality.
-
And the word of the day is: ANOMIA!
-
First post after BK!
-
First post after TCB!
-
Huh?
-
Wide awake again after three a.m.
-
Same here .
-
I went to sleep shortly after my post last night, didn't even read. So far I have slept far more than there previous night.
-

Happy Birthday to the Man of La Mancha. Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes was first published 400 year ago.
It was made into a "one song musical" as my father called it in 1964. I remember hearing that one song (The Impossible Dream) when it was sung by Robert Goulet (Not Hunter Parrish*) at the funeral service of Robert Kennedy. I asked my parents if the song was written for the funeral.
*See my post from yesterday.

TOD:
Don't ask me why, but the one word that comes to mind to explain the "herd mentality" on FB that you speak about is FEAR!
-
Wow! Another awesome Amazon review for MISS DINAH SHORE. This certainly makes my day.

Good morning, all! Last night's dreams are forgotten ones. However, Time Warner's television service is currently down, which is happening far too often these days, so I have no idea what's going on at "CBS This Morning," and I miss it.
-
Now that I have made the correction to the recording scores, i can photocopy everything this morning and contact the singer about getting the charts to her.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Waiting for (wait for it) the cable guy.
-
Of course the internet is working fine right now.

Much as I love HHW, when I log on to find there's been no posting in over 90 minutes or he site is down, I go right to Facebook because I know there's something to occupy my time for a bit. It's reconnected me with many missing friends from my past and I am grateful for that. I am also very blatantly using it to promote myself since I am looking for work and this morning a friend recommended an orchestration offer to me that I had to turn down because of the dates.
I find the constant irritation with Facebook here bothers me. People come and go everywhere, but I don't recall any new DRs here after DR DanM, whose absence always worries me. The last person I asked to check out HHW sadly stayed a very short time to never return.
I've asked former DR Dan(theMan) on my email and on Facebook why he left HHW, and he's never answered that question, although he's still friendly on Facebook. At times I feel the goal here is to keep the DRs who've left from coming back.

People change, moods change, times change, and Facebook could be gone tomorrow. Where is MySpace?
The new iMacs have removed the ability to play CDs or to burn them, and I think that was a really stupid decision. Like Facebook, MySpace, and other sites the next model could be different.
-
Today would be a good day for it to be Saturday.
-
And that's enough of me.
-
Some people on Facebook want to be the first to report something......so they don't investigate anything.
And some people are so certain that someone is out to get them, that they believe anything that might curtail their "rights" - even if it doesn't make any sense.
-
I do not like my avatar....I think I need to change it sometime.

I never thought it looked like the JRand65 I know!

Good morning, all.
Back to reality for me today. Flight is at 3 pm. Then home again, home again jiggity jig.
-
Everything checked out fine with our incoming signal and modem and everything. He put all new connectors on the cables and replaced the wall outlet for the modem, to be sure all connections were new and perfect. These newer modem/routers are very temperamental in getting set up initially, and in resetting or "reprovisioning" themselves for a while. Which is extremely annoying. But everything looks okay.

Tuesday morning greetings! Dreary morning here in SW Ohio - rain and a cold front moving in. I'll try to get out to visit Mom this afternoon. She probably thinks I've moved away.
-
TOD
I'm mostly a non-Facebook user, but if I had something to promote, I'd be there doing it. Even with the very small group of people I do communicate with once in a blue moon, I see the trend toward the type of thing BK is talking about.
Others have already said it, but: People want to be the first with BREAKING NEWS and DIRE WARNINGS. Especially the DIRE WARNINGS. Oh, how they love DIRE WARNINGS. And they have a tendency to blindly trust things they read, whether it's from known sources or not. They especially are ready to believe that The Man or The Government or The Aliens, or whoever the flavor of the week might be, are out to get them. I'm not saying anything new here, just noting that even on a very limited use of Facebook, I see the same trends. I can't even imagine what it must be like for those who practically live on Facebook.

Yeah, we've got the drear settling in here, the rains should be here later in the day or by tonight, and I saw this morning that the temperature is really going to drop in a couple of days.
-
I got back from Staples and the photocopier around 9:45 and the television was finally back up. I am going to meet the singer for lunch and hand over the recording charts.
-
On Saturday, after the memorial service, five different people said to me in so many words, thank goodness they had Facebook to keep them informed with what was going on with my life.
-
TOD:
I don't know what it is, but seeing something in print just gives it some kind of validity. Even with the now-common expression, "Don't believe everything you read" people still believe everything they read. I once got a hoax e-mail about how people can easily hack into your car by using some kind of device that will read whatever your remote keyless entry fob uses to unlock your car. At the end of the e-mail, it expressly said, "THIS HAS BEEN VERIFIED BY SNOPES." The person who sent it to me read that sentence and passed it on. Well, I don't believe everything I read, so I went to Snopes and that website confirmed it was FALSE. Amazing.
-
Okay, I have a luncheon date at 58th and 9th at 12:30. Excellent!
I've been doing library work on the vocal scores and parts for the recording, taping and folding, story of my life.
-
Today is National Coffee Day. I learned that on the Book of Face.
-
I like Facebook for the reason TCB posted: It helps me keep up with friends, many of whom have moved away or I don't see anymore for various reasons. I'm not always able to be my eccentric self there, unlike here, because some of those people are "friends" for business reasons. If I were to set up my account again, I'd probably do a personal and a professional one.
-
DR Jrand I like your avatar. I should change mine but I am lazy & don't feel like dealing with the squish factor. Maybe when I get my laptop back. I plan to set it up on my desk differently with a better keyboard.

I often feel that way. I had a call last week to tell me a friend had a brain tumor removed and, the non smoker, has lung cancer. Now I understand the posts I have seen on FB and can follow her more closely.

I should have done that! Now the world knows I'm a curmudgeon and nasty bitch. i thought it was a secret only the DRs know.

I'm up, I'm up, awaiting CD arrival - then I'm going back to bed.
-
The goal here is not to keep errant and truant dear readers from coming back - but after years of it, I think the assumption is they aren't coming back and I think it's for the reason that Pogue once gave me - now they've got Facebook and they think it's about them in a way I guess they never thought this board was about them, even though many of them used this board exactly the way they use Facebook. For me, Facebook is good for one thing - promotion. Oh, and guess what - Facebook goes down, too - it's been down three times in the last two weeks. It happens.
-
Wow...two hours. ::)

That's great, Druxy!
-
I only started on MySpace way back when was because I got involved with Theater Artists Olympia, and they felt that it would be easier to send information to everyone involved through MySpace instead of e-mails. When MS crapped out (essentially), the TAO people migrated to Facebook and, for the most part, it has worked well for them. Since I'm on the board now, I need to be on FB because we have a private board page. So, that's why I'm on FB.
-
As for public FB postings, I rarely post anything. I mostly "like" things, but I do comment on a few things.
-
As to why people post uncheck things that they do...I have no clew.
-
I am home from my lunch with a third of my fee in hand. it's quite humid here today and when I dry off, I will head to the bank.
-
It sure IS humid.
-
Well, it's still in the high 70s today and we got just enough of a light sprinkle to steam things up.
Sheesh.
-
A bit of rain here.....and LOTS of people milling about.
My brother and I went to see the folks at Carlisle & Branson to get things in order over there.....we are somewhat lighter in the pocketbook, in theory.....but insurance will cover the bulk of the services.
-
DR JANE when I look at my avatar, I see my older brother not me....so it is most disconcerting.....

There....that feels more like me......Tiresias.....the blind prophet.......

That's a great new avatar, Jrand!
-
Got another two hours of sleep - helpful.
-
Back from a short visit with Mom, which made my dreary day even drearier. She is really slipping mentally.
-
Did some banking.
-
Page Two Tiresias Dance.
TIRESIAS REX - that should be the title of something, or somebody, if it isn't already.
-
I'm so sorry to hear that, Ginny.
-
Sorry, DR Ginny.
-
Thanks, DRs FJL and ChasSmith. The first thing she told me was that her friend Kay might be coming to pick her up to go out for dinner.
Kay has been dead for more than 20 years...

DR Ginny, for all you know, your mother's friend has been to see her. Perhaps she's waiting for her? When my mother was on her last days, she was talking to her mother, father, and sisters.
Have you had any interesting mail?

Vibes for DR Ginny and her mom.!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I finally received Liaisons: Re-Imagining Sondheim From The Piano (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B013XBW1N6/) in the mail last night and have been listening to it! I was an Indiegogo (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/liaisons-re-imagining-sondheim-from-the-piano--2/x/5266254#/) contributor. :)
-
Of course, if I'd've waited and just gotten it from Amazon, it would've cost half as much.
;)
-
My father passed away about 45 minutes ago here at home.....so things are going about as expected.
Thanks to all for your vibes and good wishes for him. They mean a lot.

Richard's father did the same thing and I wondered about it after I saw Mom today.

Other than my Medicare card?

DR JRand, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sorry to hear about your visit, DR Ginny.
Is your mother in a graduated care facility - that is, will there be more support for her there, should that become necessary?
-
What a bummer of a way to start PAGE FOUR!
-
The weather report for the end of the week is dreadful: tropical storm Joaquin may land, and even if it does not, rain is predicted all day Friday. I hope I can get to Ohio!

Thanks, DR Singdaw.
Yes, she's in assisted living, which has 5 levels of care. I just last week received notification that she'd been reassessed up to the next level of care, which prompted me to schedule a conference with the social worker and nursing supervisor for next week. Today explained a lot...

Well, I must be going. Tonight, we're going to have a special guest in the audience. A friend who was in a TAO show several years ago, and whom most of us know, had a heart transplant a couple of months ago and he's coming tonight since he can't be around a lot of people, yet. I would assume that only he and his wife will be coming, but maybe others in their family. I know that they have a couple of adult kids. Anyway, we're getting close to opening night!
Until later. ;D
-
JRand, I am so sorry to hear about your father. Prayers and vibes of peace and comfort for your whole family.
-
Ginny, so sorry to read about your mother.

Just got home from Florida after a nice dinner at new Vietnamese place. Excellent food.

When I opened the front door tonight the house smelled delicious

Watching the Glen Campbell documentary, I'll Be Me, about his tour after being diagnosed with dementia. Really powerful stuff.

It was amazing

So sorry to hear about your dad, JRand. I will keep your family in my prayers.

Ginny, a few days ago when DH talked to his mom, she wished him a happy birthday next week. He was there with her on his birthday last month.
-
Well, we just returned from Albuquerque. We drove over yesterday to get the truck back. It took 18 days to get it fixed, but we have it now. It was covered under the warranty. Good thing -- the part alone was almost $10,000.

Earlier tonight, one of the apartment ghosts was acting up in the kitchen; there were several seconds of someone scuttling about and I would swear I heard a bouncing ball.

Ah, yes. Mom also asked me today if I'd ever met Mary Linda's parents. I said, "Yes, and you have, too." She was at the wedding, of course, and at their home the day after, and they've been to Thanksgiving here at our house twice when was here.

I was going to ask something similar. That's outrageous.

Well, our special guest is here and it's time for a show!
-
Finished the Glen Campbell movie, which was really good but very hard to watch.
Now for something a little more fun: The North Avenue Irregulars with Barbara Harris and a great Disney cast.
-
The show is going well and our one-man audience is enjoying it.
This is a good sign. :)

Hello, everyone.
-
So sorry to hear about your dad, Jack. I'm glad you were able to be with him.
-
Belated birthday greetings to DR John G. Sorry I missed your day. Glad to hear you had a good vacation.
-
The Mercury retrograde continues in spades, but today I was able to pick up 2/3 of my prescription eye drops. We're still missing one prescription. I have no idea why this has been so difficult. I'm very glad I didn't wait until the last minute. It's been a real hassle.
-
Bruce, I'm glad that your audiences are enjoying the show. It must be a real thrill for you.
-
Good night!
-
JRand so sorry to hear about your dad.
-
Belated birthday greetings to DR John G. Sorry I missed your day. Glad to hear you had a good vacation.
It was great. Thank you, Jeanne.
-
One more.

Six!

I like facebook and don't make any apologies for being there. I have re-connected with friends and relative I never would have reconnected with. I love the Welcome Sit Stay I sponsor in conjunction with a public radio where they feature a shelter dog or cat then post photos on FB. I get invited to lots of local events that I may not have been invited to because I work in a sort of bubble that most of my friends aren't in. I love seeing the photos of my grand nieces and nephews. Since most of them don't live near here, I wouldn't see those otherwise. I like getting local news updates, following my favorite baseball players, helping people reconnect with lost pets and hundreds of other things.
-
I'm sorry I missed your birthday, John. I was driving all day. I bet you had more fun!
-
I haven't been E and T because of Facebook. When I was posting the most here, I was also posting a lot on Facebook. I've just been busy outside my house. Baseball took me away from the computer for 43 nights over the summer. I have other regular activities, not to mention mowing the yard, doing other yard work and everything that goes with it and when I"m at the office right now, I need to work as much as I can as this summer trounced me financially and while I can see that there will be a light at the end of the tunnel, it's still in the distance. So, me not being here, has nothing to do with FB
-
I will add, that when I stop in here and there aren't really any posts to read, I go back to facebook rather than posting a bunch of things just so there will be posts. But.....I really care about the people here so I do come back.
-
Thus endeth my FB tirade.
-
Or my why are you blaming FB tirade
-
Hi Laura, Hi JohnG
-
BK, if I posted as many dog, cat and baseball posts here as I do on FB, you'd be begging me to go back to FB :)
-
I like Facebook in that I can control who reads my posts.
-
DR Elmore, I really do like having a professional page and a personal page on FB. I can be friends with clients on my professional page and they don't see all my family photos etc. I do like it that way
-
I like Facebook in that I can control who reads my posts.
I do that too.
-
DR Laura, I have seen some monarchs and the lavender farm that has a butterfly photo contest in August, is posting that they are arriving now. They are about a month later than usual
-
We are finding that here, too. I usually have one or more by now.
I never get very many, but I always have some.
-
I haven't been at the lake. One of the trees they really liked died so I don't think judging from my parents' yard makes any sense. There is a big push up here to plant milkweed and they had a tagging event a couple weeks ago at the prairie
-
At least people are trying.
-
To help the monarchs, that is
-
The show is going well and our one-man audience is enjoying it.
This is a good sign. :)
A captive audience.
Whatever it takes.
;)
-
Hi Cilla!
-
Jack, I am so sorry to read about your father. My payers for you and your family.
-
That reminds me -- I have some seeds to mail to you, Cillaliz.
-
Ginny, I am so sorry to read about your mother. I am glad that your mother is in a place that can continue to assist her.
-
Hi Laura. Thank goodness for warranties!
-
I am listening to MACK AND MABEL for about the 300th time this year. I love this score.
-
I have a friend who is determined to direct that show, regardless of the libretto problems.
-
I guess I'm the guilty party who posts a bunch of things just so there will be posts.
-
So, I guess I will shut up and go to bed.
-
Back from a mediocre meal at Pinot (outdoors) and then a somewhat mediocre new production of The Sound of Music.
