Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a day to themselves, almost, and now it is time for you to post until the almost cows come home.

Good morning, all!  This morning, in about another hour, I will drive to Wright State University! I want to  stop at Central Pastry for a cinnamon twist to eat before I take my meds.

Yesterday was a really great day: I arrived in Oxford around 9:30, went to Grey Gables, where the offices of the alumni magazine exist and met Donna Boen, the editor.  We walked to the alumni center for my parking pass and visited with several wonderful ladies including one of my lunch party, Heather Kogge.

I then went back to Grey Gables with Donna and visited until 10:45 or so.  Then I headed to the university library and Special Collections.

At the library, I met Bill Modrow, who's been very helpful with several issues in the past month, his staff, and two of the people cataloguing my collection.  One of them, a student named Tanner Moore, might be a distant relative; we seem to have family in the same parts of Ohio and Kentucky.

That collection of mine is huge!

Then lunch at 1:00 with former theatre dept. chair Liz Mullenix, now dean of the school of the arts; Heather of the alumni center; Janet Stuckey, the retired librarian in Special Collections, who supervised my first shipments in 2008; and Gion deFrancesco, the theatre dept. scene designer. It was great fun, and paid for by the alumni center.  Thank you, Heather!

I got to the music library around 2:45, visited with Julia Guichard, the theatre dept. chair, who said she had no idea how many students would show up.  Then I visited briefly with Barry Zaslow, the music librarian who has part of my collection, and his staff. Then at 4:00, I met with some theatre students - maybe 7-9 - and that was a great deal of fun. I liked then very much, and there were the usual questions about moving to NYC, work, etc., and I asked them questions on what they were majoring in, what were their plans after school, etc.

Today at Wright State, we'll talk about orchestration and musical theatre.

I was wondering if a play like Deathtrap could survive on Broadway with all the social media and chat boards out there. With all its twist and turns could it still work? SPOILER ALERT would probably be seen a lot. Any thoughts folks?

Good question, Michael. There are similar spoilers in It Shoulda Been You, which I've guessed based on reviews and people don't seem upset at knowing those plot twists in advance. But that's a musical, not a mystery.

TOD:
Well, since I recently lost about 23 pounds and I'm trying to keep it off, I've been shopping for snacks that are packaged in little 100-calorie packages and I take just one to work each day. Some of them are really 120 to 130 calories, which is okay. Anyway, I've been getting Gold Fish, Keebler Fudge Stripe cookies (my favorite) and Oreo crisps. And on our last trip to the grocery store, I noticed Cheeze-it has 100-calorie snack packs too, so I got some of those.

By the way, I would beg to argue with Sami that fruit is a great snack! I love fruit and always have - even when I was 14. I struggle to eat more vegetables and less fruit. I found it helpful on my diet to always have grapes or chopped up pineapple in the fridge because when I got a hunger pang, I could eat just five grapes or five pieces of pineapple, rather than having to commit to an entire apple or a pear, which I assume is more calories than five grapes. Well, it worked for me anyway.

Tuesday afternoon greetings!  Richard and I were out of here, in separate cars, by 8:30 this morning to attend "Broadway & Bagels" at Dayton's Schuster Center (Broadway house) and observe the load-in for PIPPIN, which opens tonight.  It was very interesting and made me want to see the show again.  Afterwards, Richard came home to do errands and I stayed in Dayton for lunch with the grantwriters.  That was kind of bittersweet, because we bade farewell to Genevieve, the wonderful young woman who took my job when I retired almost 7 years ago.  They're searching for a replacement and Gen's moving to Philadelphia  :'(

I did indeed get lost on my way to Wright State.  At the intersection of I-75 and 675 there is a sign telling you to leave 75 for Wright State. That was the last sign!

I drove past Wright Patterson Air force Base to Yellow Springs Road.  There, I called Joe Deer, who directed me back to Exit 17 ande the campus. Once there, he directed me to the correct parking lot.  I really enjoyed speaking to the students, and then I sat in on a song preparation class before Joe and I went to lunch. I just got in.

When I saw PIPPIN on Broadway in 1974, John Rubenstein played Pippin and Priscilla Lopez was Fastrada.  In the tour that's in Dayton this week and Cincinnati next, he's Charlemagne and she's Berthe.

And speaking of "Pippin," I saw an episode of "Who Do You Think You Are?" and they were able to trace Cindy Crawford's family directly all the way back to Charlemagne (http://www.tlc.com/tv-shows/who-do-you-think-you-are/videos/midwestern-model-cindy-crawford-finds-british-ancestors/) himself...the father of Pippin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepin_the_Hunchback#Pepin_in_fiction_and_popular_culture) (from the musical)!

Prior to taking my blood I was quoted a price for the test, something that has never been done before.  I also found out if you don't want to send it through your insurance you can pay a lower price.

Since I know medicare will not cover this test I opted to pay for the reduced rate right then.  Normally I just pay after medicare declines it.

Here's the synopsis:

Quote
Minneapolis. The day after 9/11. When Andrew arrives at Waverly’s apartment for a blind date, the two are startled to discover a bizarre string of coincidences that seems to connect them. As Waverly tries to reach her identical twin sister (who may or may not have been in one of the Towers), their evening is further complicated by visits from her crazed-musician neighbor, Ron, his oddly-silent girlfriend, Nancy, and Waverly’s great aunt, Joyce Carol Oates—played by a sock puppet. Hilarity and audacity are the hallmarks of this lively examination of fate vs. free will that serves as a welcome balm for what still ails all of us.
