Title: A WEDDING
Post by: bk on October 11, 2015, 12:33:19 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of a wedding, and now it is time for you to post until the happily wedded cows come home - they had a lovelier than lovely MOOrraige ceremony.

Congrats from here, too, but count me in with those who are less than thrilled at the prospect of attending weddings.

I have loved the small, intimate, and unique ceremonies that a few of my closest friends have come up with over the years.  Those were touching and moving, as well they should be.  Beyond that, I am happy to celebrate the happy couple's event in any way that doesn't involve my participation in the wedding (and especially reception) assembly line process.

Good morning, all! I've been up since around 7:45, I've taken down the packing materials frm the new Mac to the basement and dismantled my old one and put it in the carton for storage, and I've been playing with my new one.

I'm afraid a comment I made was misunderstood: there is no damned For Sale sign on the property! It's no wonder my idiot brothers cannot sell the land.  They do nothing.  When I drove by to toss the three pennies, I noticed the land has no sign and it really, really, really pisses me off at their lackadaisical attitude.

Today is our annual meeting, so I will be attending that.....I am not nominated for anything this year, but I have to give my report.

I also always make a board with photos and newspaper stories from the entire season.  Everyone seems to enjoy looking at it.

Then we have our regular October board meeting....and then....nothing until December, which will be nice!

I think some reasons to have a wedding Thursday at 4pm would be: 1. probably cheaper, 2. easier to book a popular venue for a Thursday, 3. maybe they waited too late to book things and all the weekends were full.

I purchased a beautiful bouquet of flowers at the growers market for only $7.00.  I purchased from the only stand that was in the shade.

I've been wanting to do this since the first time we went to the market, long before we even owned our condo, let alone moved in.

Add me to the list of people that don't like to attend wedding receptions. I am happy for the couple, certainly. And they deserve their celebration with family and friends. But it all seems so forced, usually, with all of the prescribed "traditions." And I intensely dislike having to make small talk with people I don't know. The ceremony itself I usually don't mind.

Our walk tonight was exceptionally lovely, especially the view as we walked the path back home.

Keith took a beautiful photo of the water, clouds, and Mt. Hood.

I put the photo into our group Photobucket page.  I can preview the pic but when I post it suddenly becomes too large of a file.  I'm stumped now.

Interesting, it still said the file was too large after I removed the link to the photo.

I think the real answer is number 3.  I've mellowed out about the wedding and after a good night's sleep and in a much better mood about it.  I still am not keen on weddings, but I'd rather be invited than not.  I'll have fun once I get there.

Today we had a band concert.  I haven't been really thrilled with the way things have gone since our last director left, but didn't find out until today how many other people in band feel the same way.  Going to rehearsal isn't fun anymore and it hit me today that I really don't want to make time for something that I'm not enjoying anymore.  So I told them I was going to sit out the next concert and probably won't be back until January.

Back from a fun dinner at Dan Tana's with Sami and mom.  We did our postmortem quickly - as I called it, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.  Sami knew what the bad and the ugly were and she's really working on it, but I concentrated on the good mostly and there was plenty of it to concentrate on.

The Caesar salad is no longer made at the table, at least in the front room.  But boy was it great.  However, the carbonara, which has always been the best in town, was not that hot tonight.  Something in it, flavor-wise, didn't feel right - Sami tasted it and didn't care for it, and if it had been up to snuff she absolutely would have loved it.

Hope the switch back to the flute choir works out for you, DR Cillaliz!

Thanks. I think it will. They only meet twice a month. It's on Sunday, but that's better than having it every single Wednesday night.  I've had and will have a lot of long days at the office and am looking forward at being able to come home mid week an relax.  I may go back in January. I left the door open for that, but we'll see.

The band is 100 percent volunteer, so the make up changes from concert to concert by a few people here and there.

Dan Tana's sounds wonderful (never been there) and that meal had sounded so perfect.  Sorry to hear it was just a little less than that.

I do still want to play, so I sent a message to the flute choir I used to be in and they were thrilled I want to come back.  I'm really looking forward to it.  It may turn out to be a better fit for me now that I'm more busy at the office.

Or maybe I'm not if this is better :)

I used to have a relative that lived next to an apple orchard near the base of Mt. Hood.

Nice.  We need to go to Mt. Hood one of these days.

Forgot to report on an important facet of the play last night:

A very funny scene calls for two fezzes, and they "wore" perfectly.  I need to find out where they got them.

Sami liked her shrimp scampi a lot, and her mom loved her chicken parmesan - that's what I'll have next time - it looked REALLY good.

I am really thankful for band over the past few years as it got me playing again. But, it's changed and I've gotten busier.  In the flute choir  I can play my alto flute and piccolo in addition to my c flute and the attitude is fun and supportive.  I feel very good about the decision.  And if I want to go back to band in a few months, I can.

We watched the first episode of Indian Summers.  I'm not sure I want to continue.

I don't mind going to weddings, but only if I know other people who are there.  But I do agree with forced traditions idea.  Not very ineresting to me. :-\

I've watched a couple episodes of Indian Summers, didn't watch the third one, but have it recorded.  I like Home Fires better

Tonight, there are only 10 people in the audience at "HEAD!"  And only three have paid.  The rest were comps.

We decided to do the show, mainly because one of the paying audience is a college friend of the director and he came all the way down from Seattle to see the show. :)

Better go, I have a really busy day tomorrow and a meeting tomorrow night.  Then a couple work days before heading to the wedding.  Then back home to do some more work. I haven't gotten my head back above water yet, but it's close.
