Title: FIFTEEN OPENING SENTENCES
Post by: bk on December 06, 2015, 12:19:08 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes had fifteen opening sentences to get to the one that was used, and now it is time for you to post until the fifteen opening cows come home.

TCB - Definitely will be breaking out SCROOGE, especially your numbers and moments, right after Hannukah, which is when I'll plan on starting to celebrate Christmas.

What's bizarre, though -- because there always has to be something bizarre, right? -- is that I booted the laptop and my browser wouldn't accept any keyboard or mouse input for anything except Gmail and opening new tabs.  Clicking on bookmarks and links got me nowhere.  I rebooted and thankfully all is now well...

We watched THE WIZ last night.

It was a good production, but aside from 2-3 songs in it, I've never really cared much for the show.

I saw it at the LA Music Center back in the day with Ted Ross as the Lion.  And the movie sucked.

Sunday morning afternoon greetings!  3/4 of our household stayed up late last night watching the Big Ten championship game and no one made it to church this morning.  Fortunately it's not a Lima Sunday for Fr. Richard.  Some of us may to to the community production of Handel's Messiah this afternoon.  It's at the Presbyterian church right down the street from us.

Simple Potato Latkes recipe for Beatles fans

"Eight Days of Light"
Tune of "Eight Days A Week"

Ooh, we need some latkes, really need them soon
You could make some latkes, with this simple tune
Peel them, grate them, soak them, drain them
Add some eggs and there’s latkes - Eight days of light

Try it the first day, kids, you may make a mess
But by the eighth day, kids, you’re sure to impress
Peel them, grate them, soak them, drain them
Soon like nothing there’s latkes - Eight days of light

Eight days of light, the starchier the better
Better each night, the surest way to show you care

Ooh, heat up that oil, kids, you’ve got all you need
Bring it to a boil, kids, this is guaranteed
Peel them, grate them, soak them, drain them
Soon like nothing there’s latkes - Eight days of light

Friday and Saturday were taken up with the dance competition. It went well, except I don't feel as good about my dancing as I would like. I did much better in practice. I made some really stupid mistakes on the floor and, for perhaps the first time, felt nervous about performing in public. I need to work more on being in the moment and making the most of it, I guess.

Joy and I won five first place awards in our championship dances, one second place and a second place in one of our scholarship dances. (The money was a nice win, but why my dancing was worse when the money was an issue I don't know. I guess I'm just not in it for the money.)

I just received a second birthday present (beautiful flowers arrived the other day) or a Chanukah gift.  He sent a fitbit that tracks sleep as well as walking, running, and steps climbed.

Last year I purchased a fitbit and lost it the first time I hiked.  I need to find a more secure place for this one.

Instead of going to the restaurant in Portland we went to dinner at the Heathman Lodge in Vancouver.  This was the first time we have gone for dinner.  We normally for for brunch where I have ordered the delicious french toast made from the bread pudding.  As delicious as that french toast is, the bread pudding is even better.

It's on to The Dangerous Christmas of Red Riding Hood.

I have never heard of that one.

A very young Liza Minnelli, Cyril Richard, Vic Damone and the Animals as the Wolf Pack. Some of it is very dated, but some is also very enjoyable.

I don't know how I missed that one.

Red: You're a wolf?
Wolf: Yes, I come from a literary family: Thomas, Virginia. I'm Lone. Lone T. Wolf.

We watched THE WIZ last night.

It was a good production, but aside from 2-3 songs in it, I've never really cared much for the show.

I saw it at the LA Music Center back in the day with Ted Ross as the Lion.  And the movie sucked.

I'm finally home and, appropriately, watching the TV version right now.  I set my DVR to record it before I left this morning, so now I'm watching it and cutting out the commercials.

I signed up to usher for a Sing A Long Messiah (http://www.washingtoncenter.org/upcoming-events/2015/12/21/sing-along-messiah.html) in a couple of weeks.

Just had to share. :)

Explain, please.

I didn't explain it correctly.  I had recorded "The WIZ Live!" onto my DVR when it was originally broadcast on Thursday.  Today, I set my DVD burner to record it from my DVR so that I can make a DVD of the show.  However, I actually played the version available from Comcast's OnDemand because the KING 5 broadcast had a crawl message at the bottom of the screen at about the 2-hour mark saying that starting December 4 at 8:59pm, Direct TV subscribers could lose access to NBC programming and local news, and that they should tell Direct TV to keep KING 5 and KONG TV.

Talk about annoying!  Except maybe for Direct TV subscribers.  Fortunately, the OnDemand didn't have the crawl message.  However, there were some sound issues that I don't know if those were in the broadcast.

Congrats, John and Joy

I'm glad Alicia Vikander won the award, but the LA film critics make me want to puke - they're so predictable.  I could have, without seeing it, told you Spotlight would be their choice, and for them to choose Charlotte Rampling for a film only THEY apparently have seen, over Saorise Ronan is, well, who they are.  But the most obvious example of who these rectal cavities are is choosing some Charlie Kaufman animated thing over Inside Out.  Seriously.

Very interesting day today.  We played for Bethlehem revisited.  I had no idea what that was.   It was way cool.   They had over 300 volunteers and they literally set up Bethlehem in the basement of the church.  The crowd entered and sat in the church. We were one of the groups who played while people waited.  Then the angel and shepherds appeared and spoke.

They took people down stairs in small groups and there was a huge line of people waiting to get in.   After we played we were able to go down and see Bethlehem.  They gave you a sheckel as you entered and they had all sorts of businesses you would have seen in the market, lots of live animals and lots of people in character of the townspeople.  Then they led you into a long hallway that was darkened, there were sheep, donkeys and a mother and her baby...who was crying like crazy when we went through.  Anyway, it was a very cool experience. They do it about every 5 years.  I swear the whole town was there

It really was.  The animals seemed to be very well behaved and the kids were having a blast staying in character.  At the beginning of the walk through Bethelehem you sign in with a quill pen.   At the end of the village, you have to give all you sheckels to the tax collector.  I can't imagine how many hours they spent putting it together, but they had lots and lots of people involved and the costumes were excellent

There were adults too, but you expect them to be well behaved and stay in character...and they did

I know several adult actors who don't behave and rarely stay in character.

Me too, lol

I thought he had gone into the bedroom for the night. I was turning everything off to get ready to watch the TV in the bedroom.  Something made me unlock the slider and double check.

When did brain surgery become out-patient surgery?

It isn't for my niece.

I expect it will be a long surgery.  Do you know how many days she will be in the hospital?

Unfortunately they have been at the Vet's with their dog.  Last we talked they were waiting for the results of an ultra sound.

~~~Vibes for Jane's Friends' Dog!!~~~
Thank you.  We did not hear back from them.  I hope that is due to fatigue and not bad news.
Very interesting day today.  We played for Bethlehem revisited.  I had no idea what that was.   It was way cool.   They had over 300 volunteers and they literally set up Bethlehem in the basement of the church.  The crowd entered and sat in the church. We were one of the groups who played while people waited.  Then the angel and shepherds appeared and spoke.
That sounds really cool!
It really was.  The animals seemed to be very well behaved and the kids were having a blast staying in character.  At the beginning of the walk through Bethelehem you sign in with a quill pen.   At the end of the village, you have to give all you sheckels to the tax collector.  I can't imagine how many hours they spent putting it together, but they had lots and lots of people involved and the costumes were excellent
Cool and impressive.
I guess George has signed off for the night.
Not yet.  I was setting up my DVD burner to burn a DVD of "The WIZ! Live," and I also had recorded the making-of special from OnDemand, but I got distracted and have been watching that, also.  Then, I searched YouTube for a clip of Lena Horne singing "If You Believe," which led me to Mabel King's version of "No Bad News," which is actually my favorite song from the movie.
Yes, he was in the very bloody "Titus Andronicus" that TAO did three and  half years ago.  He also directed a couple of the one-acts this year for "An Improbable Peck of Plays IV."
