Well, you've read the notes, the notes jumped the gun then gunned the jump, and now it is time for you to post until the jumping cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VALEDICTION!
-
First post after BK!
-
First post after BK!
First post after TCB!
-
In the morning, I'm going down to The Midnight Sun to help clean up and help reconfigure the main platform stage, expanding and lowering it. I don't know what all that will take, but it should only last from 10 am until about 1 pm.
-
Then at 3:30 pm, I'm ushering for one of the two different local productions of "The Nutcracker." It's funny that two different local ballet companies are putting on two different versions of the same ballet at the same time.
-
And on that note (B-flat), I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
For some reason, I can't fall asleep. I don't even feel tired. And it is getting close to three o'clock in the morning.
-
That last post should have been three posts!
-
That just goes to show how frazzled I am feeling!
-
Around two weeks from now (more or less), I will be hitting a major millstone.
-
Page one? Really?
-
What to do? What to do?
-
It seems very strange to be online on this site after George has gone to bed.
-
And once again I was sleeping when I wAnted to be awake and am now awake when I wanted to be sleeping
-
I seemed to have picked up a cold yesterday.
-
I was drinking tea with honey and using zinc am and sambucol in an effort to head it off at the pass
-
Zicam
-
First after vixmom!
-
That just goes to show how frazzled I am feeling!
But it sounds like your shopping is in order for the holiday, so that's something.
-
Good morning, all! I slept well until 5:00AM or so, then it all went to hell.
-
At one point, around 7:15, I decided to get up and dress, but it was so much nicer buried under a pile of blankets. After an hour nodding and dozing, the fun of lying there got old really fast. So, I'm dressed and on my first cup of coffee.
-
I've got this SATB arrangement to work on, some backuo CD-roms to dig through, and some Christmas gift decisions to make. I must take care of Randy and Jo and my super before Dec. 25, but since i have absolutely no money at this time, everyone else on my list will find that Christmas, like spring, may be a little late this year.
-
I'm still reeling over the McGlinnventory landfill situation. There are some shorts in our leader's system that I can only go into in the memoirs.
-
More coffee!
Tonight is the opening of the new Fiddler on the Roof. I understand that even though Sheldon Harnick dislikes it, the production is keeping its misguided framework. I'm with Sheldon because i think it's trying to make more explicit what is already clearly in the show.
-
IU hope the show is a success for Danny Burstein and my friends on the production.
-
More coffee!
Enough of me.
-
Good morning, all.
Had almost enough sleep but it certainly could have been of better quality. My fault, though, for burning the midnight oil. Or burning it too late. Or running out of midnight oil. Or something.
-
Sorry, i have limited time to use the wifi so i will not be able to read the posts. This ship and the crew are fantastic!
Good vibes to all of you!
-
December 20!
-
After we recorded Dearest Enemy in 2012, my leading man James Cleverton played the White Rabbit in an opera production of Lewis Carroll. It's on CD now and he made the cover!

I want a copy of GYPSY done by London cats. Or would it be the same as the Bernadette Peters version?

December 20!
I hope that is good news, DR Jrand65.

Sunday morning greetings! 3/4 of our household is going to church, but I'm staying home to continue on my baking and wrapping. I'm a little behind due to our unplanned 22-hour trip to Lima, but nothing I can't work around.

Controversy in the neighborhood of DR CHAS SMITH.

-
Yes! An incredible series of events over the last couple of weeks, which fortunately is resolved. The guilty director/designer resigned, and the production has reopened with a new design and new direction.
-
Yes. Did Russo direct THE GAME'S AFOOT?
-
No, he had nothing to do with that one, or with anything I've done.
-
Happy Sunny Sunday!
-
I've accomplished a good deal about the apartment and i am ready for a nap.
-
I'm up, I'm up. Didn't fall asleep till after three, so getting up at eight was not in the cards. I got up at nine-thirty but fell right back asleep until about fifteen minutes ago - so nine hours of sleep.
-
Interesting article, but not sure why this is just being talked about now, when it's been happening for decades, especially at the big musical houses around the country - we have four here in LA and environs who do it all the time, then win awards for copying the work of others. Sometimes they actually have purchased the sets from the tours rather than being creative and doing their own thing - and they wholesale recreate the staging and choreography of other productions without giving the original creators credit. That's my big problem, the chutzpah and the lack of credit. It's why they don't hire me to direct anything - I think they know I would never ape any other production in that kind of wholesale way.
-
BK, I was thinking about this case in relation to any potential copying of your LI'L ABNER production, since you had expressed some concern about that possibility.
This blew up in their faces because they copied a pair of professional in-state productions only 30 or 40 miles away. It was blatant, was noticed all too easily, and those original people cared enough to respond.
-
Oh, you can be sure if these yokels who are doing the staged concert of it next year use ANYTHING of mine I will be trumpeting that fact loud and clear everywhere.
-
The good news is that unless they were sitting there taking notes, I'm not sure they'd know how I did what I did with the script and score or WHAT I did with it. The bad news is that I wouldn't put it past these people (in fact I'm expecting it) to cast Maddy and John Massey and then ask them how we did certain things. I will be having a conversation with both of them before the end of the year making sure they know that even if they're asked they may not tell anything about what we did and how we did it. It's why, despite having a complete video of the show, I've never released any clips online.
-
I spoke to my friend for maybe 30 minutes. He sounds tired but he's full of good spirits. They are giving him some sort of radiation treatment to kill the tumors in his liver and his next one is in late January. I think his friends' biggest responsibility, beyond praying for him, is to keep him in good spirits and not depressed about his situation.
-
And that's that!
-
Good afternoon, all.
I have some catching up to do.
-
More prayers for Elmore's friend.
-
Three!
-
Elmore, I have not seen Under the Greenwood Tree. I barely remember the book. Should I look out for it?
-
Horrible story about the fate of those scores, Elmore.
-
Cillaliz, I hope you're feeling better today.
-
Yesterday was amazingly long. It started out with helping the folks at the studio get ready for the Christmas party (and of course some dancing).
Then I helped a friend Gail and her church distribute a barbecue dinner to the homeless.
After that, Gail and I changed and went to the office party. Train was the headliner. I have no memory of their music, though Soul Sister sounded familiar. It was a fun show anyway.
Then it was on to the dance party, which was supposed to have ended at midnight, but there were so many people that they kept the music going until 1 a.m.
-
It made getting to church this morning by 8 very difficult. And teaching Sunday school after that was a challenge.
-
Horrible story about the fate of those scores, Elmore.
The worst part of it is that five or more LaCie Hard drives containing God knows what material that John McGlinn worked on for the past twenty or so years was irrevocably lost.

If this had been artwork, it could be considered a criminal act.
-
...and then I fell asleep in my chair.
But only after baking 3 cinnamon pecan coffee cakes - 1 for my friend Becky and her husband, 1 for Rob and Mary Linda to take to Michigan tomorrow, and one for our freezer to keep for Christmas morning breakfast. I slept while they cooled and have now wrapped each suitable to its purpose.
-
I'm into the first hour of A Nun's Story. Audrey Hepburn is wonderful, but the pacing is of a different time. It seems overly long and there's still an hour and a half to go.
-
And then there is the story of the theater that was showing The Nun's Story to be followed by The Tingler.....and one manager decided to try out the seat jigglers during Audrey's prayer.......

Ha!
-
That's like the percussionist dropping the triangle on the orchestra bells during the slow movement...
-
Or the eighteen-wheeler blowing his horn at the peak of "Some Enchanted Evening" when he passed the new outdoor concert venue next to Interstate 70 north of Dayton...
-
I just saw the weather for this Thursday. It is supposed to be 15C (which is around 60F+). I know some people want a white christmas. But i am so happy. The bizarre thing is that today was around 0C (32F). So the weather keeps going up and down. But still no snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I don't go to the mall that much. But as I was leaving to go home I walked thru Sears. And they were handing out $10 gift cards. My sister didn't want hers. So now i have 2. OMG the line at Santa was so huge. I can't believe how long those people were waiting there!
-
Trucks and Bells - the title of my new collection of music.
-
And I just finished baking about 3 dozen cut-out shortbread Christmas cookies. We'll ice and decorate them on Tuesday.
-
Good evening!

Page 3!!???

More vibes for DR elmore's friend.
-
I'm back from Fredericksburg, VA (about 45-50 miles from me). I saw our own Sandy Bainum in Mame!
-
Sandy was really wonderful. She's performing with her right wrist bandaged --she fell backstage the day before opening and had to be replaced for several performances.
-
Sandy gave me a nice greeting, as she always does, and introduced me to her husband and son.
-
We did take a photo but I never could figure out how to post a photo here.

Are you absolutely sure that it went to the dump? Is there any way to find out who actually cleaned out the place? I'm sure it would be a miracle, but what if someone cleaning kept some of the stuff?
-
Miracles happen

Prayers for Elmore's friend

I'm feeling a bit better today. I decided not to go to the open house to give myself one more day at home. I'm feeling better tonight than I have
-
Thanks for asking John G
-
I did get quite a bit done around the house today. I still need to do a little work for the office before tomorrow, but that shouldn't be a problem.
-
Page 4
-
I am really looking forward to having some time at home in the next two weeks to get a lot of projects done.
-
I'm not going to see my family until Christmas Day, so I haven't decided exactly how much I'll work this week. I have a few projects I'd really like to get done, so I may work most of the week and take off next week.....we'll see.
-
How can we only be on page 4?
-
and I am here all alone
-
Today I did all my laundry
-
I also washed some windows upstairs
-
I frosted the cookies I made
-
and I spent a lot of time worrying about Callie. I think she may be sick again. If she isn't acting better tomorrow, I'll take her in to see the vet
-
Actually, I should go check on her
-
Hello Cillaliz!
-
I forgot to mention that Sally Struthers plays Agnes Gooch in Mame. She was very funny, as one would expect.
-
Been relaxing and watching a rather riveting 10-part Netflix documentary called Making a Murderer.
-
I'm watching the singalong Sound of Music. I would have liked to have seen the live performance in the UK tonight. Julian Ovenden was to play Captain von Trapp.
-
Now watching an oddity called Kitty with Paulette Goddard and Ray Milland. It's very much like Pygmalion, down to Goddard's guttersnipe being incapable of pronouncing her h's. It's a fun costume comedy drama, if a bit rickety.
-

Office management crew cleaned out the space. It was six months ago now, and if the Man from Philadelphia wants to pursue it, it's his problem.
-
I'm going to read a bit more of Robert Lewis' wonderful memoir Slings and Arrows and go to bed. Tomorrow morning I have to relearn my way down to Scott Lehrer's studio. I think the exit is Prince Street.
-
The ship had a nice show tonight performing music from Broadway shows. The dancer were very good and the two lead singers were excellent.
-
Sounds like you are having a grand vacation, Jane!
-
Another great story, Laura.
Perhaps they could have offered her leftover macaroni banana salad instead.
-
DR Laura's church folks should be on a sitcom.
-
Did you get the tablecloths,Laura?
-
Callie didn't look so good when I went upstairs, so I carried her down and tried to hold her (she isn't into being held). So I offered her some food. She gobbled it up. Now she is sitting by me purring and her nose is cold again, I think she's fine, but I'm going to keep an eye on her

It was just a thought, seems a tragedy they are all gone
-
No. We had more, but I had washed and pressed those. They also spilled something orange on my tablecloth I brought from home for the buffet table.
-
I looked all over for those tablecloths. I was positive I had left them on the table with the centerpiece materials.
-

I've been listening to her Christmas album while I knit. It's very nice.

Five!

Page 5? Really?
-
We need to all pitch in and get through this page!!
-
It was a sunny day in Tacoma today. Cold, but no rain!
-
I don't really know that for sure. I never left the apartment.
-
I need to get a timer for the outside lights, but since I was getting by on no sleep, I didn't think I should drive anywhere.
-
Tomorrow is another day!
-
I am still not in the mood for the Big Day!
-
I guess nobody else feels like posting.
-
Maybe I need to Sandy Bainum's Christmas CD tomorrow.
-
It worked for me last year.
-
Where did you go, TCB?
-
Hello, 4 guests.
-
It has been a good lazy day. Watching Peter Lorre in Crime and Punishment. It was his first American acting job. Not a great script, but really good acting from Lorre, Edward Arnold and direction from Josef von Sternberg.
Mrs. Patrick Campbell even has a short role as the pawnbroker who gets murdered.
-
Around two weeks from now (more or less), I will be hitting a major millstone.
PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!

These are so cool!

This reminds me of a book that I got last year called Star Trek: The Art of Juan Ortiz (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1781166706?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage), where Juan Ortiz made a 1960s style movie poster for every episode of "Star Trek: The Original Series."
-
They were originally released in 20 groups of four limited edition posters, but they all were compiled and published as a book for about the price of one set of the posters.

The Vixter spent about five hours yesterday fixing the lights on the tree

Ooh, what'd you buy me? :)

Please don't send those to me. Please.
-
I wrapped and froze two...trimmed the other three I used the trimmings in chicken quesadillas for lunch for Vixdad and myself..
-
The trimmed cutlets were flattened and then marinated in fresh lemon juice and some Marsala while I dragged the ornaments put of the crawl space, decorated the tree and put the boxes back in the crawl space
-
That took about 5 hours
-
Then I made dinner....

He's back!
-
Good evening, Vixmom, my friend!
-
Hello, John G.!
-
Top of the evening, George!
-
I have been watching football this evening.
-
And tomorrow night I will be watching........... football! Yeaah!
-
I need to run my lines before I go to bed tonight.
-
I have driven everyone away!
-
Except for our 2 Guests!
-
Welcome, Guests. Tell us about yourself.
-
I need to sign off of my laptop, get ready for bed, and sign in to my iPad.
-
Later!
-
I guess I didn't need to hurry back.
-
Still no one else here.
-
Even our 2 Guests have gone.
-
Top of the evening, George!
Hello, Tom...and then I left.
-
But now, I'm back...again.
-
And since we're so close...
-
PAGE SEVEN DANCE!!
-
Today, I went down to The Midnight Sun and helped the set designer and the technical director get the platforms ready for the next production. They had taken apart the little stage that we'd had there for the last year or so, and reconfigured the shape and height of the stage. The stage will then stay that way for the next couple of shows. I was only there for a couple of hours.
-
I then left and got me something to eat, went home and took a short nap, and then changed into my usher garb (white shirt and black pants). I had signed up to usher for "The Nutcracker" at the Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts (which is managed by the Washington Center for the Performing Arts) but during intermission, I worked concessions because it was full house. The KJM stage holds about 500 seats and is a very nice stage.
-
After leaving the show, I went shopping at the local Trader Joe's and got a new canvas bag and a few non-essentials. Then, I walked over to Barnes & Noble (just a couple of shops down from Trader Joe's) and bought my dad his Christmas gift. Our family exchanged names and I got his...and coincidentally, he got mine! He ALWAYS wants a B&N gift card. :)
-
And just so he has something else to unwrap, I got him a Leg Lamp Crate Mug (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RM0YW6Y/) that Tacoma Little Theatre was selling when I saw our very own TCB in his one-man-show-reading. My only concern is that it specifies that it's "Not microwave or dishwasher safe." I hope that he can remember that. :-\
-
Back from Star Wars, about which more in the notes.
-
Can't wait to read what you thought about it.
