Well, you're read the notes, the notes had body and showed off, and now it is time for you to post until the show off cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: UNDULANT!
-
First post after BK!
-
I did not expect to be the fist post after DR TCB.
-
Maybe I can go back to sleep.
-
Good morning, all! Where are the East Coast denizens?
-
Today is the 1776 sitzprobe. I will keave here around 10:00 for a leisurely bus trip to 57th Street to catch the crosstown bus to 11th Avenue.
-
DR Jeanne, I'm sorry to hear about your bank situation. This is happening way too often. My first memory of having a credit card is around 1986, and I once left it behind in a CD store. On my next statement, someone purchased in Italy over $2000 of clothing and shoes. That was my firsy enocunter with fraud. It was over 20 years later before another situation occurred. Now it seems to happen every six months or so.
-
Last night I downloaded a photo from Google images and a "Virus Alert" sign flashed on and off, accompanied by sirens and whistles. I don't know if i actually did download a virus but it scared the crap out of me.
I've been running virus checks, spyware checks, you name it checks all night.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Agree, about the abominable frequency of these credit card frauds and the like. And it's impossible to believe that the banks can't make the recovery process more responsive and efficient.
-
Looking forward to a full report, DR Elmore!
-
Good morning to all
-
Depsite a massive rainstorm and a tornado watch the reading of Harvey Fierstein's Safe Sex went very well
-
And I met the actor who I was doing the play with 90 minutes before curtain. We ran lines before it was time we had to do it.
-
And I won't be around this week I am off to Tampa
-
Friday morning greetings! I'll be E & T during the middle of the day because Becky and I are trying a new (to us) restaurant - Cozy's Cottage (http://cozyscottage.com/). Richard and I drove by there the other day and he saw their sign that says "A Quaint Bistro." He said any place that describes itself as "quaint" is not for husbands!
-
Shocking news from DR JEANNE.....fix it vibes.....on the way.
I think opening the second act with Born Too Late is a great idea!!! Disco lets you know exactly where you are and makes you remember.....well....disco.
-
Quaint!!!!
-
It's Friday-- and a good one that!
-
Well, the reviews for BRIGHT STAR were much poorer than I expected, but the TIMES gave it a very positive review. I wish it a good run.
-
And I am off to Carroll Studios.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I did not expect to be the fist post after DR TCB.
A fist post? Sounds painful.
-
Well, the reviews for BRIGHT STAR were much poorer than I expected, but the YIMES gave it a very positive review. I wish it a good run.
Who's the YIMES critic these days?
-
BK, will you be able to post a link to this radio interview when it's ready?
Also, I'll be interesting in reading what you think of Sophie Scholl. I saw the movie several years ago after my mother recommended it.
-
Well, John G., we can at least say that the "typo" police are vigilant this morning.
-
Did I forget to say "Good Morning"?
-
"Good Morning, Y'all"!
-
Glad y'all could stop by!
-
Well, the reviews for BRIGHT STAR were much poorer than I expected, but the YIMES gave it a very positive review. I wish it a good run.
Weird set of reviews, indeed.
-
Y'all come back now.
-
Two!

Well, John G., we can at least say that the "typo" police are vigilant this morning.
Yup. (Scratch, spit.)

RIP Earl Hamner, creator (and narrator) of THE WALTONS, based on his own childhood experiences. The character of John-Boy Walton was based on Hamner. Amongst his many other writing credits were eight episodes of THE TWILIGHT ZONE. He was 92.

I think I'm up, but may not be. I don't think I slept two hours. Just too much in the cranium.

Good Morning All:
Today is Good Friday. It is the most solemn Holy Day for Christians.
By this we know love,

Last night, one of the set-ups I wrote was for a song Paul Gordon wrote called The 1962 Dodgers. Very pretty and touching, but when we did the read-through it just didn't work and I was ready to cut it, along with the other two songs that weren't working. One of those two I wasn't willing to go to bat for because it was just too diffuse, didn't make its points clearly and was seven minutes long - at seven minutes you'd better be writing a three-act play - my seven-minute song, which is the final song in the show, is just that - a three-act play. I was able to get the author of the second song to tell me why she wrote it, because the title of the song is more of a metaphor than literal, but because our show is about LA the audience would immediately think it was literal - so I was able to write a set-up based on her personal experience that caused her to write it, and now it works fine.
So I asked Paul how his song functioned in the unproduced musical it was written for. When he explained it, then it made sense to me, especially two lines toward the end that no one could understand the meaning of. So, again I wrote a set-up based on the ideas in the original set-up, but making it different for our purposes, and taking out the entire reason the song functions in the show. But the two lines that no one understood were specifically about how the song functions in the show, i.e. a writer trying to come up with the hook to a story he's trying to write. So, I asked Paul if he'd rewrite those two lines and this morning he did and now the song really works well.

I'm a Jew and I hope it will still be a good Friday :)

And I won't be around this week I am off to Tampa
I'm glad your evening went well. Enjoy your week in Tampa.

;D. Looking at the photos I think he can handle the "quaint" part if you like the food.

I did not expect to be the fist post after DR TCB.
A fist post? Sounds painful.
It does, but then posting from bed using my Nook is painful, but for my shouler, not my fist ;D

I doubled checked my posts to confirm I had posted the news yesterday.
-
I did not list his credits which was a nice addition :)

Before The Walton's there was Spencers Mountain.

Not a fraud situation, but corporate and institutional
fu mix-ups, of which I've suffered a few in my day, continue to thrive.
I just opened an envelope from the Connecticut DMV. It contained a bill for $52.50 for a registration renewal of my motorboat.
The only niggling problem is that I don't own, and have never owned, any such thing. I have dutifully mailed the whole thing back to them with a little love note scribbled on it in red Sharpie.
What really REALLY gets me about this kind of mistake is that it's for a RENEWAL, not somebody's new purchase. How in the name of all that is holy, in this holy week, does this crap happen?
-
This is my second such experience. A long while back, probably a good fifteen years ago, I started getting late notices for the property taxes on a car that wasn't mine. After a few notes sent to them did nothing to alleviate the situation (which means today's note might not, either), I had to drive to a town some sixty miles away to tell the county clerk or some such, in person, that I wasn't their guy. They finally fixed it right there on the spot, explaining that when they can't locate a person who has probably moved or whatever, they
(get ready for it)
start Googling names and send the notices out to anyone who "might" be their man.

Oh, I'm sure that they can, but it's probably not in their (financial) interest to do so. :P

That's great, Michael!

DR CHAS SMITH I'm done with your motorboat - should I send it back to you?

I have been slightly obsessed with adult coloring books. I have a large calendar and a daily calendar that I had been coloring every day. But it was aggravating my shoulder/neck muscle that was hurting. So i had to stop for 3 weeks. I have done 10 minutes a day for the past 2 days and it didn't hurt. So hopefully I will be able to color more soon.
-
So, I got to the UPS Store to get my books. Three boxes are there even though there are four tracking numbers they sent me - so the softcovers of the new books were there - you know, they're free and I don't care about them - my four books that I ordered on top of the new one are there - but the hardcovers of the new book are not there. So, home I come and I cannot get anyone to call me about this horror show. I can see in the e-mail they sent me that two of the four tracking numbers are identical. I call the actual book shipping people and am on hold for forty-five minutes - they actually never answer the phone. My book person doesn't call back. My book order person doesn't call back. So, I finally call the general line, get some doofus on the phone who sees there's a problem but can't help, so he puts me through to a supervisor - a really sweet gal. She sees what's happened - they didn't ship the hardcovers the same day - they went two days later and won't arrive till Tuesday (hopefully!). Of course, the helper is gone by then, off to get married for a week. She sends me the tracking numbers but acknowledges that something got screwed up somewhere because all the books were supposed to ship at the same damn time and didn't. I think they sat on them for two days without realizing they should have gone out. Then she drops another interesting factoid on me - they could have sent this to a branch of their printer in - California instead of Pennsylvania, and I would have had them a week ago. She was very apologetic and told me she'd speak to everyone involved and she gave me twenty-five free books for the annoyance. If only everyone were like her. So, now it's Tuesday morning. What I'm going to have the helper do is pre-address all the priority envelopes and postage them and then I can just insert the book and ship them out on Tuesday, because I certainly am not going to wait until she gets back.

We had a potluck farewell for two employees who are retiring. We had a nice turnout and there was quite a bit of food, including my potato salad and my green beans (both of which are staples at our potlucks and which people specifically ask me to bring).
That said, I'm taking home more than half of each dish. And I made a lot. I'll be eating potato salad and green beans until hell won't have me.

It's a gloriously beautiful day here in Oakland. It sings of Spring! Spring! Spring!
Things are supposed to be a bit cooler this weekend with rain possible Sunday into Monday.

(If I've said this before, I heave a heavy sigh)
I recently installed a new region-free, zone-free Blu-ray player made by Sony. It differs from the LG I have by virtue of the fact that it will play some discs the LG won't play without some mysterious adjustment I have been unable to figure out how to make. (I made inquiries about this at Home Theater Forum in a special section on equipment. My only respondent was a fellow who has the same unit, but had no ability whatever to tell me in plain terms -- so simple that there could be no misunderstanding -- what I needed to do. Instead, he was just "snippy" with me).
At any rate, the LG is several years old and has been much-used, so buying a new one with more facile operations was a step in the right direction.
One of my European discs that I could not play on the LG has now played for me twice on the Sony -- it's Stanley Donen's "Two for the Road" starring Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney, William Daniels and Eleanor Bronn.
It's absolutely gorgeous. Love this film. Have loved it since I first saw it at the Carolina Theater back in late 1960s. One of Henry Mancini's most exquisite scores adorns this film.
It was worth the expense of buying the new machine JUST to see this film in this manner!

I am home from a long day, but a really fun one. The sitzprobe went well and the orchestra sounded great. I like the cast quite a lot. John Larroquette will be a fine Franklin, I think. It was great to see the lovely Christiane Noll, who has a 7 year-old daughter! I think when I last saw her, she was expecting. She'll be a wonderful Abigail, and Santino will be a good Adams. I liked Bryce Pinkham in "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder," and he's heading "Cool, Considerate Men." Alexander Gemignani, whom I last saw when we did the "Merry widow" concert at Trinity Church" is doing "Molasses To Rum," and it''s really good.

DR Ron what are the ingredients for your potato salad?
-
Hello, everyone.
-
My acupuncturist was able to take me early today, so I left there an hour earlier than usual and headed to the bank. I was there over an hour, but I think all has been taken care of: new account set up, new checks ordered, cashier's check to pay the rent since I may not have the new checks by then. Now I must recall all the sites where my account number is embedded. Oy. But it should all be settled soon.
-
I agree that banks could--and should--do more. US Bank's fraud department takes calls seven days a week, which surprised me. But I didn't sense any urgency from them. I'd like to see them let customers know what they're doing to protect their customers and what customers should do when something like this happens. Be more proactive and make a bigger deal about it.

I understand how errors occur. What I don't understand is why they aren't fixed promptly. I have to think it's due to apathy on the part of the employees. And the problem seems to be getting worse.

Good evening!

I'm ready for a little nap.

Speaking of Blu-rays, my friend from the Netherlands gave me a DVD of Andre Rieu, when I met him in Germany. I tried to play it on my Blu-ray but it wouldn't play. I then tried my smaller TV with the built-in DVD player and it worked. It's a Polaroid TV.

Where has March gone?
-
DR Kate's and my niece will turn 38 tomorrow. How is that possible?
-
Such a headache from that whole book deal. Got another chart from the chart guy and we did all our fixes and that now goes to Lanny. With the addition of Born Too Late I think I have nine songs in the show out of the twenty-one or so we're using.
-
Well, I must be going. One of my staff (Pam) is turning 70 on Sunday! Her daughter and son have planned a surprise birthday party for her at the local restaurant, Falls Terrace (http://www.fallsterrace.com/). I told the stage manager for "The Credeaux Canvas" that I might be late, but someone was able to fill in (the director will do it if I don't get there in time). As for that, tonight is opening night! I will get there, just not at regular call time.
Until later!
-
What a nice surprise. I'm glad you can be late for the theater. Have a good evening.
-
I did something I rarely do. I returned an unfinished book to the library. I am now, finally, reading "Murder at the Hollywood Division".

Is anybody home??

Where has March gone?
I think this is one of the longest Marches I can remember.

opening night vibes for George and company.

Hello, 6 guests.
-
I would say hello, TCB, but he seems to have left the building.
-
Along with everyone else.
-
But 6 guests.
-
I have little to write.

It was a fairly light day, thanks to San Antonio all but closing down because of Good Friday.

Even the schools were closed.

Gratuitous post No. 100!

Just finishing up the Irwin Shaw stories. The last, "The Man Who Married a French Wife," is really sad and touching.

Coloring vibes for DR Jennifer. I haven't done that yet, but I keep seeing them and they look like fun. I haven't colored something (other than doodling) in decades.
-
DR Ron what are the ingredients for your potato salad?
Yes, please share the recipe.
-
Well, I drove away the six guests.
-
Good evening!
-
Everybody must see me coming.
-
They are gone by the time I sign in.
-
I have been watching the Sweet Sixteen.
-
AS usual, it was not too sweet for Gonzaga.
-
They lead almost the entire game.
-
But they lost it in the final eleven seconds.
-
But they have still managed to go to the big dance for the past seventeen years in a row.
-
I never watch college basketball until it gets to the March Madness.
-
But once it starts, I love it.
-
And I never watch the NBA any longer.
-
One more post.
-
Five
-
But, at least, Gonzaga managed to lose before the start of GRIMM.
-
I still enjoy the series, although I guess I am in the minority.
-
I know elmore said he stopped watching it.
-
And someone else said they stopped watching it.
-
Was it Ron who said he used to watch GRIMM?
-
Oh well, I don't remember now.
-
Just too tired to watch anything. Finally got the monologues for the musical number I've been waiting for - despite being very clear, of course they're way too long so I've made suggested cuts and also found better places for the song itself to be used.
-
But GRIMM is a lot better than watching SHARK TANK.
-
I'm so overtired and I'm seriously concerned about my voice, which, because of so little sleep this week, is weak and pretty trashed. I've basically just got to get some decent sleep and then keep my mouth shut.
-
I agree that March has flown by.
-
In fact, I think I mentioned that yesterday or the day before.
-
But April is almost here.
-

Well, I'm finally at the theater. I was told that the first act went well. There are about 20 or so people and they really seem to be enjoying it. :)
-
Pam was COMPLETELY surprised at her surprise birthday party and was very touched. For her gift, her daughter had everyone decorate a square for a quilt and it was so cool. Pam said she almost lost it when she saw the square that had a picture of her with her brother who just died last month. The food was very good, the conversation was nice, and the cake that her daughter brought (not from Costco) was delish! A good time was had by all!
-
What a nice surprise. I'm glad you can be late for the theater. Have a good evening.
Thanks, Jane! It was a good evening...so far. It's not over yet.
-
opening night vibes for George and company.
Thanks, John! They're working!

The weather bureau is saying that after a semi-rainy Sunday and Monday, we are going to have an entire week of really nice weather.
-
Blue skies and temps in the high 60's!!

The gift with the quilt squares choked me up a bit when I read about the one with her brother.

I have no doubt it was fun :)

We watched Castle tonight and as usual guessed early on who the killer was.
We then watched Elementary.
The we watched an episode of Fury follwed by Burns and Allen.
-
Well, the show is over!
-
We had a very successful opening night!

Like Bruce I need sleep. My voice is fine though.

Hopefully, this will be an indicator for the rest of the run. :)

Well, I'm home now.

I'm back!
-
George! How was your opening night?
-
Was anyone shocked by the nudity?
-
Are the nude actors attractive?
-
It is so quiet here tonight.
-
You would think it was a Friday evening.
-
I remember when Fiday night was a big night on television.
-
Way back when JackPaar used to have a Friday night talk show. I think it was on at 10:00 pm.
-
He had such amazing guests. Judy Garland, Buddy Hackett, Oscar Levant, Gore Vidal. What an amazing mixture of different guests
-
It was all pretty fascinating to a twelve year old theater geek.
-
Then later, Friday night meant SANFORD AND SON, CHICO AND THE MAN, etc.
-
George! How was your opening night?
I got there just before the intermission, so I didn't see the first act, but the second act went really well. Overall, the audience loved it.
-
Was anyone shocked by the nudity?
I don't know. The nude scene is at the end of the first act, which I missed. I didn't think to ask about it, but I didn't hear anyone say anything about it at the end of the show.
-
Are the nude actors attractive?
Yes...both.
-
In my humble opinion.
;)
-
Then finally there was the classic television sitcom, THE FLINTSTONES. Friday night at 8:00 pm. Prime time cartoons!
-
In my humble opinion.
;)
That is the only opinion that matters at the moment.
-
I almost forgot, THE X FILES started out on Friday nights.
-
In my humble opinion.
;)
That is the only opinion that matters at the moment.
You are correct.
-
I guess I had better turn in for the night.
-
Good night, George.
-
Good night, George.
Good night, Tom.
