Well, you've read the notes, the notes were lazy, hazy, and crazy, and now it is time for you to post until the lazy, hazy, crazy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SUPEREROGATORY!
-
First after bk?
-
Yea, verily
-
Where be Elmore?
-
Well I am up and showered. Going to kick them kids out of bed and go downstairs for the FREE breakfast
-
Then there is another 800+ miles of driving in my future
-
Wow where is everybody? We enter and had breakfast are are about to leave and no one has posted in an hour?
-
TOD:
I've picked up some nice autographs off of Ebay. Kept some; sold the others for a nice profit.
-
This afternoon, I will be at the Austin Public Library, hosting a screening of one of my favorite films, WHITE HEAT with Jimmy Cagney.
-
Good morning, all!
-
DR vixmom, elmore be here!
-
DR Matthew, sounds as though you have real sibling rivalry problems. I'm so sorry.
-
First thing this morning, I need to call my barber and book some time tomorrow morning and call the pharmacy for the next month's meds.
-
More and more safe travels to the vixfamily!
-
My friend Eric Dietz is coming over around 4:00 after the Broadway League baseball game. He's on the BRIGHT STAR team. He wants to see more episodes of MIRANDA, We should have a lot of laughs over it.
-
Dennis Leary is on CBS THIS MORNING. We used to be really friendly at the Drama Book Shop in the late 1980s. I haven't seen him in at least 25 years.
-
To paraphrase our beloved vixmom: where is DR ChasSmith this morning?
I cannot believe he's on Facebook and never sent me a friend request!
-
Good morning, all.
-
See? Just ask and ye shall receive.
-
Oh my God, the dreams this week have to have established a new record in both frequency and insanity.
This morning's (I was able to sleep in for a bit and that's usually when the brain goes crazy making this sh stuff up) are still -- right now, even as I peck this -- coming back to me.
-
To paraphrase our beloved vixmom: where is DR ChasSmith this morning?
I cannot believe he's on Facebook and never sent me a friend request!
Please don't think anything of that, DR Elmore. I've had a Facebook account for several years without friending anyone or taking part except for following along here and there and dropping the occasional comment or question. People are always after me about it, and I actually only know two or three folks who are anything like me in this regard.
This might change, if I ever decide to just relax and have some fun with it one of these days. But my real activity in the online world is enjoying the real communities of HHW and just a couple of other dedicated forums.
-
When vixmom said she's got 800 miles ahead of her, I checked back on where they stopped for the night.
Oy. Not even as far as Richmond -- and as I recall, if I leave Danbury at nine in the morning, Richmond is one tank of gas and can be my first stop at three in the afternoon, and even with a couple of other stops I will make Lumberton NC (everybody's favorite stop) by eight.
But my trips have almost certainly not been on heavy traffic days, and getting past NYC on the Jersey side, even with traffic, is nothing like actually crossing through it like they have to from the Guyland. I say again: Oy.
So I guess there will be another stop tonight? Vibes for smoother sailing the rest of the way!
-
Today is my first in three days without a doctor or dentist appointment, and it feels like a vacation. I'm a major wimp when it comes to that stuff.
-
Congrats to DR JOHNG on his promote.
-
Travel vibes for DR VIXMOM & Co. and DR GINNY and RICHARD.
-
Sorry that MR BK didn't win his wanted item.
-
I want to see a picture of the George Askington Bridge.
-
Patience, DR Jrand65. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
-
I mostly use Buy It Now on Ebay..... When I first joined the inner web back in 1998, I used to be a frequent bidder on things.
I won several NICE photos of Allison Hayes and Frances Farmer....all at reasonable prices. And it was through EBAY that I met former Dear Readers MBARNUM and JMK....
-
I was thinking how vixmom and I seem to be the two real road-trippers in this here jernt, and I just looked at the numbers on my standard jaunt to Cincinnati. Holy moley, Bing Maps says 715 miles -- which I usually do in one day, in 12 to 13 hours. I somehow didn't know it was that many miles.
-
My answer to the TOD would be a fairly lengthy and interesting one...to myself, if no one else. I "discovered" eBay in early 1998 and was quite active buying things for the next several years. A whole variety of things. Too much stuff, probably, but I lived and learned. And I did come up with a few treasures along the way.
But you know what I remember most about it? The community. There was no Buy It Now at first, and they didn't disguise bidders' handles -- so you actually got a feel for who the major players were in your area of interest, and you could often make an educated guess how successful or unsuccessful you might be in winning a given item. And when new, you soon learned about waiting and sniping at the last minute. But there were no automated systems, so you had to do it manually -- and it was fun. There were items I'd set my alarm and get up at all hours for, and thus just a whole spirit of adventure about the whole thing.
Now of course there are still collectible and fascinating things to look for, but the game has changed -- for the better, in online improvements and convenience (remember mailing a check or going out to buy a money order??), and unfortunately for the worst in so many other aspects I couldn't even count them.

DR Matthew, sounds as though you have real sibling rivalry problems. I'm so sorry.
You know... this will pass. And I will be sure of it. Ben just doesn't want anything to do with Leo... YET. He's not mean, he doesn't "charge" at him, he gets pesky when Leo gets in his business, but I'm sure he will come around.
Ben has never really "played" with other dogs, he's been around other dogs and has reacted the same way he reacts to Leo - like "I don't have time for you - go away" type attitude. However, as I type this, Leo is playing with a toy in his pen and Ben is laying down watching... not ready to attack or anything.... just watching
-
And with that, I wish you all a good morning. Puppy's get Papa out of bed early now, and I think I'm ok with that!!
-
The "just watching" is good, DR Matthew. I say that as a cat owner with more than one experience at bringing a new one into the household.
-
REMINDER to anyone planning to watch it LIVE tonight -- She Loves Me on BroadwayHD at 8 p.m.
-
I'm up, I'm up - barely. Probably under seven hours of sleep.
-
In solidarity with yesterday's little Camelot brouhaha, I am listening to BK's OLC album of same.
-
This afternoon, I will be at the Austin Public Library, hosting a screening of one of my favorite films, WHITE HEAT with Jimmy Cagney.
Have a good time.
-
So, now that we've got a date, we ain't got no cast! I've suggested three men who are all interested in being involved, but we've lost several crucial former cast members to other jobs. I hope we can find good replacements.
-

Well, send him one.

Harvey's good, but Elizabeth Larner is no Julie Andrews! I wish they'd recorded Morgan le Fey's number with Mordred. Morgan le Fey in the London cast was played by Moyra Fraser who played Judi Dench's annoying sister-in-law Penny in the TV series As Time Goes By.

Keith doesn't have a facebook account, he hacks mine instead ;D
I like that he hacks me, he makes my page much more interesting, especially when he chronicles our travels.
-

They are soooo time consuming too.

FINDING THE PERFECT CAST VIBES!!!
-
I have the windows in my office open as I'm trying to air it out. I finally got a little console table for the wall across from my desk. My mistake was leaving the 3 little drawers in it open to get rid of the smell. I think the chemicals triggered an allergy attack. At least my head doesn't hurt which is the reaction I expected.
The cottonwood blowing all over the place isn't helping.

I really do not miss working in midtown any longer. The people are crazy there!

-
Did some banking and am back home now. I should probably jog now, but it's already too hot and so I'll probably wait until seven-thirty again, when it's still light out but much more pleasant.
-
Today is my last workday of the week. Taking a four-day weekend.
Hallelujah!
-
I've been buying off eBay for as many years as they've been in existence, I think.
Can't rightly say what my best finds are as there are many good ones.
One prize is a registration receipt signed by Alfred Newman for a stay at the Beverly Hills Hotel in the late 1930s.
I also have a few signed contracts -- Alfred Newman's for "Wuthering Heights", Hugo Friedhofer's for "The Bishop's Wife" and Jerome Moross's for "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn".
I managed to acquire one of the MGM mirrors (featruing the studio logo "in" the glass mirror) that were sold in the early 1970s.
There are other treasures, to be sure. But those come to mind.

Chas is on the verge of his 14,000th post, for those who like milestones.
-
And I just passed 24000. When did that happen?
-
I rarely pay attention to the number of posts unless someone else mentions it.

Congrats to DR FJL on his millstone.

Congrats to DR FJL on his millstone.
Freudian slip ;)

DR TCB & DR George, has it been cool up there? I'm trying to decide to take shorts or not.
-
Chas is on the verge of his 14,000th post, for those who like milestones.
Yikes! I rarely notice them myself. So is this it?? :)
-
And here it is!
-
Thank you for the very timely heads up, DR FJL.
-
Working on the heart attack scene again tonight.....hopefully I will be able to be properly stoic.
-
Good morning.
-
I used to buy on ebay years ago. It was fun. My daughter and I used to buy vintage postcards of the characters in Ragtime. Then the dealers got involved, and the prices went up too high.
-
It was a beautiful morning -- only in the 80's at 5 a.m.
-
And here it is!

Congrats, ChasSmith! Now, on to 15000! :D

Thursday afternoon greetings from Knoxville, TN! We had a smooth drive that included some lovely mountain scenery in western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee. It was fun driving the winding I-40. We went through a tunnel and crossed the Appalachian Trail, but Richard missed both because he was asleep.

And here's Fred's millstone!

DR TCB & DR George, has it been cool up there? I'm trying to decide to take shorts or not.
According to the weather app on my phone, the high is expected to be 75°F and the low is 52°F. I would assume that the temperature at 10:00 am will be somewhere in between those numbers. :)
-
Gawd Amighty, two (count 'em) millstones on one page!
-
Well, they can't say we don't keep on the move here.
-
Oy... it's been a day already!

By the way, I was driving...
-
...and we've been moved from room 326 to 323, because the AC in 326 did not work.
-
Good AC is so important.
That drive sounds beautiful. I haven't been anywhere around those parts since the family trips when I was a kid.
-
And on a happy note, the Encores! cast recording of Paint Your Wagon (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Paint-Your-Wagon-2015-Concert-Cast/29257) has FINALLY arrived! And it's most definitely a CD-R, not a pressed CD.

Good News, Bad News:
First, the Bad News -- I have been busting my hump the past two days preparing, formatting, scanning, cross-cataloguing and finalizing two letters to our Board of Supervisors to extend leases at a certain building in a neighboring city for another five years. Today is the day to get those letters submitted for signaturem and they must be delivered completed (both get three separate signatures) by Noon, Tuesday. Because I'm taking tomorrow off, I needed everything done and ready to go by close of business today. All of that said, I was making some finishing touches to present the letters for signature...and an e-mail comes in announcing that the Board meeting I was trying to meet has been cancelled. That gives us one and only one Board session until mid-September and that is on August 2. Deadline for that: Two weeks from today. All documents have to be corrected for date.
The Good News: I don't have a Tuesday noon deadline. To hell with it all, I'm taking that day off, too!
-
A five-day weekend LOOMS!
-
What WILL I do with it?
-
It remains to be seen, but I plan on making good use of it!
-
Tonight, if I get home in time, I plan on seeing "She Loves Me" live. If not, I'll catch it on another date.
-
I'm looking forward to the cast recording of "She Loves Me"!
-
Yes, ChasSmith, we're still on the move.
-
No BMs, though, please.
-
One more, I think.
-
Page 4
-
And...moving along....NEXT!
-
Eric has left. We finished the first season and we'll begin Season 2 next week. I'm having fruit and cheese for dinner.
-
Working on the heart attack scene again tonight.....hopefully I will be able to be properly stoic.
"Properly stoic". I like the sound of that :)

Thanks. I was looking at a cooler temp. It is about the same here and very comfortable once I get moving. I will dress a bit warmer for the trip up as we will be leaving early. I think I'll take shorts for Saturday afternoon and Sunday.
-
DR TCB did you see on FB that Sharry said she changed her hair color? I guess the red it gone. I only know her as a redhead.

Too bad for Richard. The drive sounds lovely, except for the winding road part.

Howdy Folks! I haven't checked ebay in ages. I suppose I should one of these days. Not that I really need anything, but you never know what reassure you might find that can't live without!
-
Had a very nice two-hour meeting, then I did the jog, then I had the first of my two cheeseburgers (that may sound excessive, but they are literally 400 calories each WITH the bun). Now I'm back watching the auction because our very own Nick Redman wants an item - he's doing a phone bid, but should something go wrong and they don't connect, I'm here as his back-up.
-
Well, it's time for me to leave work now. The building is empty and I need to make sure that everyone is really gone and all the doors are locked. Then, I get to set the alarm. It's just one button to push, the you have 60 seconds to get out of the building. Easy. :)
Until later.
-
"She Loves Me" just ended. I enjoyed it VERY much. Would I rather have seen the original cast? Of course, but this one acquitted itself extremely well.
I was especially impressed with Zachary Levi. I knew the talent of the other cast members, but had no idea!
Am extremely happy to have seen the first "live" streaming telecast of a running Broadway show!
-
The intermission made a huge deal out of upcoming HD presentations. Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miserables and Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miserables and Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miserables and Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miserables, and on and on. Three shows being done "concert" style, apparently. I wish it were three shows I wanted to see concert style, but perhaps something else at another time.
-
I'm going to listen to BK's "She Loves Me" CD recording over the next 24 hours.
-
Good evening, all.
-
Glad to read your review of She Loves Me, Ron.
-
I would like to see it one of these days.
-
I saw the revival that BK recorded. I just wish the recording had had Judy Kuhn on it.
-
Congratulations to ChasSmith and Fred for their milestones.
-
TOD:
I found a King Kamehameha Hawaiian shirt that I wanted at a decent price and a poster for the musical Nowhere to Go But Up at an almost decent price. But I haven't done a lot on eBay.
-
Dennis Leary is on CBS THIS MORNING. We used to be really friendly at the Drama Book Shop in the late 1980s. I haven't seen him in at least 25 years.
Star of one of the greatest Christmas movies ever, The Ref.

Greetings from Savannah GA

Congratulations to ChasSmith and Fred for their milestones.
I was reading from a distance and thought that said Congratulations to ChasSmith and Fred for their intestines.

Watching "The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer." I don't think I've ever seen this before. It's kinda like a screwball comedy meets Son of Flubber. The parts with Myrna Loy and Cary Grant work. The parts with Shirley Temple are dated, even though she's not bad. (I know it's the film that ended her career.)
-
"Future Shock" author Alvin Toffler has died.

The auction JUST finished its second session - yesterday's was one of the most endless and longest auctions I've ever had to be a party to, and today's exceeded that by two-and-a-half HOURS. It was unbelievable. But in the good news department, Nick got the two things he wanted at their opening bid prices.
-
Had my second cheeseburger and am now listening to some Ned Rorem music.
-
Page five? Really?
-
The LA show CDs arrived today and have all shipped, including the Indiegogo copies. I gave the helper the opt-in list from the Kritzerland Indiegogo and over half that list includes people who are done with their perks. So, we had to tell them so (again, she always sends out e-mails when people have used up their perks), and hopefully they'll go buy it, but so far not a one of them has.

I do to.

Good evening!

Sorry that I am late. I had friends over for dinner. With fava beans and a nice Chianti.
-
Jane, you needn't worry about Sharry's hair color. When she says it is back to her natural hair color, she means red. The only person that remembers Sharry's natural hair color is Mary Magdalene.
-
Continued travel vibes to Ginny & Richard and the Vix Family Robinson!
-
Millstone congrats to FJL and Chas.

T.O.D.
I got a lot of interesting theater memorabilia on eBay, mostly as gifts for friends. For myself, mostly autographed photos. Now days, you need a GPS unit to find your way through that site.
-
I am too wide awake to go to sleep.
-
Topic of the Day: I mentioned this just last week when the topic was hidden treasures:
One of the other treasures that I have is one of the first things that I bought on eBay: a set of 36 slides (actual photographic slides) of The Manhattan Transfer performing in NYC in (I think) 1975, taken by Gorman Bechard (http://www.gormanbechard.com/main.html). It was the original line-up, so it's Tim Hauser (who formed the group and died a couple of years ago), Laurel Massé, Janis Siegel, and Alan Paul (the original Teen Angel in Grease on Broadway). I remember the listing said that the sale included the copyright, but I don't have a print-out or anything with them, anymore. They're buried in a box somewhere, so I haven't seen them in quite a while...but I KNOW that I still have them.
:)
-
Speaking of autographs, I once bought an autographed CD of Mandy Patinkin from Broadway Cares. When I finally located the signature, it was this ridiculous little scribble. It looked like the squiggle you make when you try out a new pen. I realized I could have made it myself, and saved myself $10.00.
-
I can't remember very many autographs I got for myself off of eBay. The nicest was probably the Angela Lansbury photo.
-
We need to get off this page.
-
Before it is too late.
-
It may be too late already.
-
It is after midnight.
-
Just one more post.

-
Gratuitous Post #151!
;)
-
I'm watching Wednesday's episode of "Royal Pains."
-
It's a musical episode. They're original songs and I like them, so far. I'm sure that they're all doing their own singing.
-
I have never seen that show.
-
I like it. This is the last season, though.
