Well, you've read the notes, the notes championed Gower, and now it is time for you to post until the champion cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: HOMILY!
-
First post after BK!
-
Travel vibes for DR Kevin!
-
Rehearsal vibes for DR Elmore!
-
Pearl Bailey and the all-black cast of HELLO, DOLLY! Was earth-shattering in its day. It was also the very first show I ever saw on Broadway. The show was magical and the St. James Theater remains my favorite Broadway theater.
-
DR Kevin, I believe my flight gets into Las Vegas at 2:15 p.m on Sunday afternoon
-
I ate too much and the food was too rich for this senior citizen.
-
Now I can't sleep.
-
It might also be the virgin tiramisu. He soaked the lady fingers in espresso so perhaps I have too much caffeine in my system.
-
Perhaps I should read the latest TV Guide. That should put me to sleep.
-
It might also be the virgin tiramisu. He soaked the lady fingers in espresso so perhaps I have too much caffeine in my system.
He should have used decalf.
-
Yes, sigh, I am still awake.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Our rain date this evening will most likely be rained out, but we shall see.
-
Whatever else happens or doesn't happen, I need to check train schedules and just generally plan my day in the city tomorrow.
-
I can't believe tomorrow is August 1st. Where is this year going?
-
The notes made me want to get out my Pearl Bailey cast recording which I haven't listened to in a hundred years. I wonder what shape it's in. And my Mary Martin one. Should be good, but let's make sure.
-
BK
I got a better one for you with the "reimagining" by a director.
Someone posted on Facebook a page from a program "The Director's Notes" for a production of the musical TITANIC.
He MOVED THE TIME FROM 1912 to the late 20's!! I kid you not. He gave his reasons for doing so. It's starts in the 3rd paragraph.
The person who posted this was kind because he removed the director's name from the image

Good morning from Washington National Airport!
-
Thanks to all for the travel vibes!
-
I'm happy to say that I'm now on a non-stop flight on Alaska Airlines!
-
Last night I checked for frequent flyer awards on Alaska and only first class seats for 60,000 miles were available. No coach seats.
-
So this morning I just thought I'd check and was happy to see they had a first class seat for 25,000 miles. I grabbed it. I now arrive at 11:45 am.
-
TCB: I'll be in touch.
-
Oh, yes. I'll lose my 12,500 Delta miles, but it's worth it.
-
My first time to NYC was in 1969. My mother, brother, and sister and I went for a weekend. We already had tickets for Mame with Ann Miller, which I loved. I remember seeing the marquee for Hello, Dolly! with Pearl Bailey. I wish I had seen the show !
-
"When I was a child I was never allowed to watch the hit film Titanic..."
The director was a child in 1997.
There's our first of many problems.
-
Good morning, all! This is my first day ijn a week that hasn't been filled with things to be accomplished.
-
I was out of the apartment at 8:00 this morning for a market run. I am home, no plans to leave the remainder of the day. I have everything I need t make chicken soup, and I will shortly begin that.
I plan to chill out in the AC and work on the Act One edits for GUYS & DOLLS.
-
I love HELLO, DOLLY! In 1965, I saw the national tour wth Mary Martin. Since then, I have seen Ginger Rogers in Dec. 1966 (I was underwhelmed) and Carol Channing several times.
-
!! 2 !!
-
I was saddened to learn this morning that Darrell Brown, one of my alternating Charlie Browns in 1976(?) has died. He was a really wonderful man, and my heart goes out to his family. He was a true mensch.
-
Condolences to DR ELMORE.
-
DR MICHAEL - that 'note' make me wants to punch that director in the nose.
-
Continued travel vibes for DR KEVIN H - perhaps he will soon make it out of the airport.
-
I have said it before - here and elsewhere - there is NO play, NO musical so great that it cannot be absolutely ruined by a stupid director with a "vision."
If you don't understand or trust the material - don't DIRECT THE DAMNED SHOW!!!!
Of course something interesting can be achieved by tweaking here and there.....but......it's not YOUR show....you didn't create it....so stop trying to make it YOURS!
-
Especially something like HELLO, DOLLY!
-
Especially something like HELLO, DOLLY!
This announced revival with Bette Midler terrifies me. I think she will be great but God knows about the "concept" or the direction.
-
Ah yes.
-
But
Mr. Adams DR Kerry ..... Didn't you have to get up to post that?
-
So this morning I just thought I'd check and was happy to see they had a first class seat for 25,000 miles. I grabbed it. I now arrive at 11:45 am.
:)

My condolences. DR Ginny do you need these as well?
-
Ah yes.
I just did this 😊
-
The only thing I read about the Dolly revival is that the choreography will honor Mr. Champion, probably in the same way the Pippin revival honored Mr. Fosse "in the style of".
-
Sunday afternoon greetings! We are back from Trinity Reformed Episcopal Church in Mason, OH, where Mary Linda was the altar guild and Fr. Richard was the visiting priest. I was the chauffeur.

I had not kept in touch with Darrell, but was saddened to read of his passing in this morning's paper. Here he is as Charlie Brown, during the opening number:

I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of sleep, thank goodness. I'll jog in a little while.
-
Larry and Ginny - I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend and co-star.
-
Larry and Ginny - I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend and co-star.
Thanks, DR FJL. This is the second person we've lost from that photo...
-
Thanks for sharing the photo DR GINNY.
-
Yes, very nice photo. Condolences to DRs Ginny and Elmore on the loss of a long ago friend.
-
Larry and Ginny - I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend and co-star.
Thanks, DR FJL. This is the second person we've lost from that photo...
Second?
-
The soup is finished. As soon as it cools down, i can freeze a lot of it and clean up the stove. My apartment smells wonderful, just like my grandmother's kitchen.
-
Larry and Ginny - I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend and co-star.
Thanks, DR FJL. This is the second person we've lost from that photo...
Second?
Tom Howard...
-
We went for a 6.5 mile walk. I dressed for summer when it isn't summer. I was rather chilly for the first few miles. By the end of the walk I was glad I had not taken a sweater.
-
Larry and Ginny - I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend and co-star.
Thanks, DR FJL. This is the second person we've lost from that photo...
Second?
Tom Howard...
Of course.
-
The kitchen is clean and everything put away. I am tired.
-
I shall now be on my way to The Federal.
-
Is tonight a Kritzerland show?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Successful Vibes for tonight! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
I'm here! The flight went off without a hitch and I must say that First Class seating is something I could get used to.
-
Continued travel vibes for DR KEVIN H - perhaps he will soon make it out of the airport.
Thanks, DR Jrand65! They worked!
-
Page 3!
Tonight I'm seeing Grey Gardens at the Ahmanson Theatre. I was disappointed to hear that Rachel York doesn't perform on Sunday evenings. Oh, well!
-
Tonight I'm seeing Grey Gardens at the Ahmanson Theatre. I was disappointed to hear that Rachel York doesn't perform on Sunday evenings. Oh, well!
Did they tell you that before or after you paid?
-
Our rain date is officially rained out. :)
-
Going down there in a bit to bring my instrument home for the next few days. They're going to try for an extra performance on Thursday, and if the weather gods permit, maybe add one next Sunday.
-
Well, I am now entering my pre=performance jitters. I will be fine in 24 hours.
-
Well understood. Jitter vibes for DR Elmore. Looking forward to tomorrow.
-
Back. Loaded my stuff into the car just in time. It's cats and dogs out there now.
-
I'm here! The flight went off without a hitch and I must say that First Class seating is something I could get used to.
I'm sure :)
Hollywood Reporter's obituary for Gloria De Haven, who passed away at 91.
-
I always liked her.
-
Today Keith wanted to see "Captain Fantastic". I knew absolutely noting about this, and being that it is summer and the title sounds like a comic book hero I expected to see such a movie. My first inkling that we were seeing something very different was from the previews shown ;D
Has anyone see this?
-
I hear Captain Fantastic and my brain fills in "and the brown dirt cowboy"
-
Break a leg. Vibes for Elmore and the whole moonshine and mistletoe team
-
I am glad you were able to rescue your instruments from the elements, Chas. I look forward to your report on moonshine and mistletoe
I'm watching TCM and during a coupke of the movies, they showed a short with Carol Burnett talking about her love and appreciation of Lucille Ball. They showed a clip of Lucy and Carol singing a song from a special that they did together, and the song, appropriate to your post, is called "Chutzpah." ;)
My condolences to Ginny, as well.
Today was just going to be a day of me watching TV and doing not much else, but my dad called, asking if my mom had called to invite me to come over. She hadn't, so he said to come over. I did, had dinner, and we played Phase 10. I didn't win...yet, again.
-
And now I'm home, and about to put a load of laundry in the dryer.
-
What other shows has used this casting ploy? I remember it being done to I Love My Wife. Any others?
I shall have to dig up Seventh Heaven with her. And maybe a Ben Bagley album or two that she performed on.
-
I did not like the previews at all.
-
Well, I am now entering my pre=performance jitters. I will be fine in 24 hours.
Vibes for a great performance.
-
DR MICHAEL - that 'note' make me wants to punch that director in the nose.
Bitch slap that director once for me, too, JRand.
-
On TCM tonight and last Sunday, they're showing some of the movies from the newly released Pioneers of African American Cinema (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EME1XLE/). I was a Kickstarter campaign contributer, so I have these movies on the Blu-ray release, and my name is in the booklet! :)
-
Especially something like HELLO, DOLLY!
This announced revival with Bette Midler terrifies me. I think she will be great but God knows about the "concept" or the direction.
What terrifies is the reaction from the New York Times. They reviewed a production at Goodspeed or somewhere like that recently and marveled that the show worked when staged as a farce. What was Gower C's concept but a farce? No, the movie was not, but is that all these people know about?
Oy.
-
Let's move on.
-
Four!
I have that CD somewhere, too.
-
Larry and Ginny - I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend and co-star.
My condolences, too.
-
Page four? Really?
-
It's been a long day.
-
After church and a productive dance class, I went to a fundraiser for a chef who had been injured in a horrible accident.
Far too much food and booze.
-
Followed by an impromptu birthday get-together with far better vino.
-
Then I went to Barnes and Noble and picked up far too many more titles on the last of the Criterion Collection sale.
-
Oh, for the time to watch these movies. I may have to take some to Louisville with me.
-
Good evening!
-
Page four? Really?
-
Really? Really?
-
Cats is back.
-
Why?
-
Another beautiful summer day today.
-
I think I finally fell asleep about 4:30.
-
And Nicky got me up for breakfast at 6:30.
-
I then went back to bed for another hour.
-
So, I didn't get much sleep.
-
I think this morning I was still full from last night's dinner.
-
But I did come home with a doggie bag, so I had lasagna and garlic bread for dinner tonight.
-
Now I am full all over again.
-
And I still have enough lasagna for a small lunch entrée tomorrow.
-
I wonder if you could make a lasagna sandwich.
-
This weekend I watched a Norwegian disaster movie.
-
Not a Norwegian film that was a disaster.
-
But a disaster movie from Norway.
-
It was called THE WAVE.
-
It was actually pretty entertaining.
-
Although it is hard to read subtitles while watching special effects.
-
Five
-
Good evening, John!
-
Watching a Jessie Matthews movie called It's Love Again. These movies are just about all the same, but I love her anyway. And yet, she's an odd one.
-
Good evening, John!
How are you, sir?
-
I'm off to bed.
-
Good night, all.
-
Still the movie was very exciting.
-
Good night, John.
-
I had to drive around town in my car so I could listen to L.A. NOW AND THEN.
-
I listened to the first CD.
-
I really love what I have heard.
-
My compliments, BK.
-
My condolences to elmore on the loss of your friend.
-
My condolences to DR Ginny, as well.
-
Break a leg vibes to DR elmore!
-
Chas I am expecting a full report on M and M tomorrow.
-
I certainly wish I could be there.
-
It was called THE WAVE.
I've heard of that. I wanted to see it at the Olympia Film Society, but I couldn't go when they had it scheduled.
-
A week from today I will be in Lost Wages.
-
I am afraid to check the weather report for Vegas.
-
I guess I can skip bringing a coat.
-
Back from a wonderful Sterling anniversary show for his ten years in cabaret booking. The gals were superb - I gave them both really detailed notes over the weekend and they incorporated them so brilliantly - these gals are the berries. The band was great, the house was full, and I think Sterling was very pleased.
-
Tomorrow hopefully I will receive my new phone.
-
My current phone is getting worse my the day.
-
This afternoon my phone beeped that I had a voice mail from my friend Sharry.
-
When I listened to the message, it was from a company back east returning my call.
-
Why it listed Sharry's name and phone number, I have no idea?
-
That's great, BK!
Very strange!
-
It also told me that my sister called me, three days ago.
-
Six
-
Congratulations, BK, for another successful show.
-
How was your day, George?
-
How was your day, George?
Pretty easy going. I just went to my parents' for dinner and card playing with the family, then came back home and did some laundry and have been watching TV.
-
Sounds like a good day. And you didn't even have to make your own dinner.
-
Sounds like a good day. And you didn't even have to make your own dinner.
Yup. Simple but good.
-
Have some really fun photos for the notes.
-
I hear Captain Fantastic and my brain fills in "and the brown dirt cowboy"
:D
-
Although it is hard to read subtitles while watching special effects.
I agree.
-
Still the movie was very exciting.
I will ask Keith if he wants to watch it. It sounds like something he would enjoy.
-
When I listened to the message, it was from a company back east returning my call.
Very strange!
Sure is.
-
Tonight we watched Batman vs Superman. It was better than I expected and we were warned it is confusing at times. I commented on a few bits that didn'the seem accurate to the original stories.
-
Bruce, I'm glad your evening went well.
-
'night
-
Good night, Jane.
-
I certainly miss Cilla posting here.
-
I miss her, too, but she's in her political mode and knows that won't work here.
-
I hate that politics are hurting relationships and destroying friendships.
-
I hate that politics are hurting relationships and destroying friendships.
I tend to stay out of political discussions, unless I'm just agreeing with people who share similar views.
;)
-
Well, I need to go to bed, now. I need to get to work early because I have a new staff member starting tomorrow and I should be there when she gets there. We'll start training, but it's not going to happen all in one day.
Good night, Tom, and have a good day, all.
-
Good night, George.
