Well, you've read the notes, the notes pondered, and now it is time for you to post until the pondering cows come home.

Well, the first night (of two) of TAO's "Words, Words, Words: Contemporary Horror" went really well last night!  We had 17 or 18 people in the audience, which might not seem like a lot, but it was a good night for us and our WWW series. :D

Post by: George on August 20, 2016, 01:32:46 AM
The readers were all really good and the pieces were well chosen.  My only...comment ::) ...would be thaat it was a long night.  In the curtain speech, the director announced that the evening would be about two hours with a 15-minute intermission, but the whole thing was 2 hours and 45 minutes! :o However, I heard nothing but compliments from audience members after the show.  No one (that I noticed) mentioned the that it was too long.

The one actual negative was that it was quite warm in our little theater.  We have one little portable A/C unit, but it doesn't keep things cool very well one we get an audience in there.  There's not much else that we can do, except that we did have cold bottles of water for sale.

After the show, seven of us went to the closest Shari's and dined and chatted and unwound after the show.  And now I'm home and almost ready to go to sleep.  I just want to ketchup on yesterday's posts, then I'm off.

Have a good day, all!

Set the alarm for eight-thirty but was up at six, at which point the backup was about three quarters or more.  I think the slowness is all about Time Warner and maybe the fact that my Time Machine is five years old - the newer ones are much faster.  So you watch the speed change constantly - when it's at 10 or 11 mb/s it moves along, but then suddenly it will slow down to like 3 or 4 for awhile (currently at five and crawling).  I did a two-and-a-half mile jog then went and got some detergent.  At 5 mb/s it will take another thirty-four minutes.  If it goes lower, longer, if it goes up (the hope), shorter.  In the last twenty minutes it's hardly budged - so frustratingly slow.  Just noticed that it's out of transferring programs and documents and into what I guess is the final stuff - right now it's doing the Applications folder.

Just jumped to 7 and twenty-five minutes remaining.  Hopefully it will go back up to 10 or 11 and will finish by nine-fifteen, otherwise I have to leave and I won't know what's what until noon.

7 mb/s and twenty-five minutes - it has not budged for the last thirty minutes - yes, it's said twenty-five minutes for the past thirty minutes.  Don't know whether to stay or go, to call Apple, or what.

I turned off the lights around 10:00.  I had been feeling yucky all day, and around 12:30 my stomach pains were really bad.  The more I lay there, wondering if I would be around today, I became convinced that there was a leak somewhere in my abdomen and that it was filling with fluid, like an aquarium tank.  I'm not svelte, but I was convinced that my waist, which is the broadest part of my body - I think I'm rather pear-shaped - and that my upper torso was now the broadest part of my body.  My former Drama Book Shop employer had died from an aortic aneurism, and I thought, is this what I have?  Jonathan Larsen had gone to several ER's before the aneurism killed him, so I thought, okay, get dressed and grab a taxi.

So, I got to the ER around 1:00am, saw a nurse for blood work, a doctor for a discussion, and another nurse who gave me an EKG.  That went on until around 2:30.  When I got to the ER I texted Joshie, in case they admitted me or I died, and he called me back.  He's in Vermont with his family this weekend.

After all the exams, I had nothing to do but wait.  I couldn't sleep with all the bustle, so I watched the activity.  Around 4:30 a very pregnant doctor spoke to me and told me they would shortly have my test results so I could be dismissed.  At 5:45, the lab results came in.  I got my paperwork and headed home.

Title: Re: HARD PONDERING

Have to leave.  It hasn't budged and the mb/s should be fluctuating but hasn't budged either.  I called Apple and they said to give it a couple more hours - he said he's seen it happen repeatedly that sometimes it will get to a point and actually be done but just not give you the done screen.  When you restart then you're suddenly up and running.  But if something is just frozen and it's not done, then you start from scratch and that's just disgusting to me.  And we may have to do it manually at that point.
Title: Re: HARD PONDERING
Post by: bk on August 20, 2016, 09:33:50 AM
Just as I typed that the blue task bar went all the way to the end - the about twenty-five minutes and 7 mb/s is still there, but it now says it's transferring files and folders and that shouldn't take all that long.  So I don't know whether to hang around or leave.

I'm having fun on this very fast computer.  Did my five updates that were waiting to be done and that was very speedy, too.  The ONLY tiny problem I've had is with dragging stuff with the trackpad.  My old trackpad did that effortlessly - this one takes a couple of times before it will actually drag.  I'm sure I'll get used to it and it does ultimately drag so that's good.

There are some good ones around. The Apple stores get sooo crowded and sometimes service isn't the best. Apple set the gold standard in this field, but a little mom-and-pop where they really know Macs can be very helpful, especially once your machine is out of warranty.

Vixmom's Linner sounds lovely.

Makes me think about The Magic Pan and how I've missed it so.

It made me think of the Grand Finale in Glendale, one of my favorite restaurants anywhere.

The latest Bobby Short CD I didn't have arrived in the mail today. Nice mix of Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart, Coward and Kern. The sole Cole Porter selection is a beaut, Dream Dancing.

Made dinner for the folks tonight: herb-stuffed salmon with a beurre blanc, lentils, buttered rice and some leftover coleslaw. Good stuff.

Except the lentils were enough for six or eight, so plenty of leftovers there.

We have a problem finishing off leftovers. Dad got a lamb hot pot from the Chinese place up the street last night. He's had two meals on it and isn't even halfway through the order.

I am loving all the food reports from today!!

Tonight Mr John Adams brought a box of fresh produce from the Farmer's Market near his home......I got some nice tomatoes, a summer squash, and an egg plant....along with some mild red peppers.

Something may be cooking at my house tomorrow.

Our audience for our final show was probably our best one.  They enjoyed the show from beginning to end....lots of responses and some very nice applause for all the musical numbers.

I got BIG laughs with my wig bit......and some nice comments on my "teary" scene at the end.....  Most excellent.  Set is struck and The Odd Couple is next to close the season.
