Well, you've read the notes, the notes were new-fangled, and now it is time for you to post until the new-fangled cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: LUCIDA!
-
First post after BK!
-
We are on the plane waiting to take-off to Newark.
-
DR TCB, most of all writing should be fun. I am glad you are enjoying the experience.

Travel vibes to jane and Keith!

It's feeling like the September 15th deadline (for businesses) may be under control at the tax office.
That's unusual and somehow I think we'll find something that was left out, just to make the last days hectic. :)
-
Then comes the October 15th deadline (for individuals who are on extension, mainly the people with really involved returns, it seems) - which from this vantage point looks a lot calmer than the Sept. 15th deadline.
-
The really involved tax returns are not necessarily the rich people. They are more often the very small sole practitioners and self-employed folks who have lots of paperwork to get together and find that this works most efficiently (for them) if they do that collecting of paperwork under a stressful deadline.
Most often, they don't have any staff to get their paper work together, so they have to do it themselves, to find the receipts and get the stuff together in time for us to do it under the wire for Oct. 15th.
-
good morning to all
-
BK,
Although I agree with you that some of the casting was rather odd, my wife and I enjoyed THE PEOPLE VS. O.J. SIMPSON when it aired. Overall, we thought it was quite good.
Sometimes the story itself is enough to sustain one's interest.
I also agree that there are far too many choices these days on TV. I don't care how good the shows are supposed to be, I'm not going to get into Hulu or Amazon or any of the other streaming services. There are just so many hours in the day and I have many more important things to do.
-
We watched GENIUS last night, a film about book editor Max Perkins and his relationship with Thomas Wolfe.
The picture was well written and acted and, because I was unfamiliar with the story, I'm glad I saw it...once. However, movies about writers writing are certainly not the most engrossing.
-
Good morning, all.
-
One weird dream about having to install some kind of vented kitchen window curtains having to do with the proper viewing/listening of a recording or film or hologram of a past production of THE FANTASTICKS. Oy! Don't ask.
-
This four-day week went by faster than any I can recall from when I had a regular day job.
Saturday and weekend vibes to all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I have the TV on for company. The 9/11 memoriam has begun, and it's as devastating as ever.
-
Now that I've called my doctor about another hip injection, my left leg has decided to be as quixotic as possible: at 2:30 this morning I couldn't sleep for the pain. At the moment, I'm walking quite well on it.
-
I have company tomorrow, so today I must tidy up the apartment, I also need to put together a birthday gift for my friend Steve Young whose birthday is a week from today.
-
Saturday....
I only saw a few previews for that OJ Simpson thing, and it looked like a bad Saturday Night Live sketch, so I skipped it.....I vas dere, Charley!
-
TOD:
Compulsion, book, play, and movie
-
TOD:
Most of the true crime stories that interest me, I've written books, plays and/or stories about.
William Desmond Taylor
John Dillinger
The murder of "Bugsy" Siegel
The Lana Turner/Johnny Stompanato affair & killing
Jack the Ripper (and his encounter with Dracula) ;D
And, though it was more of a scandal than a crime:
The Franchot Tone/Barbara Payton/Tom Neal affair
-
I need Dial-A-Sherpa. Now.

Saturday! It's here!
-
Saturday morning greetings! We had a lovely evening with Sharon and Tom and enjoyed Human Race Theatre's SWEENEY TODD. They used their space and turntable stage quite effectively and the cast was strong. My favorites were Rebecca Watson as Mrs. Lovett, Aaron Vega as The Beadle, David McDonald as Judge Turpin, and DJ Plunkett as Tobias. Jamie Cordes' Sweeney Todd was OK, but he's too much of a boy-next-door to be believable as the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Some make-up would have helped - dark circles, etc. It was opening night, so there were a few stumbles - literally by Mrs. Lovett who fell on the curtain call - and some balance problems during scenes on the upper level of the turntable when it was in motion. They run through October 2 and I hope there's enough interest in Dayton, OH, to keep the house as full as it was last night.
-
Now I'm all suited up for Michigan's noon kick-off against Central Florida and Cincinnati's against Purdue. Channel flipping, anyone?

8 - Drums/percussion, Trumpet/flugelhorn, Conductor/keyboard I, Reeds, Bass, Bassoon, Keyboard II, French horn.
And they were hidden.
-
Three pieces - piano, stool, and cover.
-
At first I thought they were using recorded music...

I'm up, I'm up - not quite eight hours of sleep and why the HELL are we on page one?

And why the HELL are we on page two?

Greetings from Western New York!
-
Yes, I shuffled off to Buffalo this morning.

Travel vibes for DR Jane and Keith !

I saw that!
-
We are on the I4 in Florida
-
We have had an uneventful drive down
-
I am pleased to say
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Larry, thanks for you reply about THIS LIFE. I was hoping it was available from one of my sources. I'll watch for it, though, as Acorn (the most likely source) often brings in new shows.
-
Travel vibes to Vixmom and Vixdad. I hope the trip continues to be relaxing and uneventful.
-
Travel vibes to Jane and Keith, too.
-
And why the HELL are we on page two?
Well I for one have been driving for 2 days and the po leece take a dim view of posting while driving

Vixdad is driving now

Re 9/11:
I'll never forgive the networks for their incessant airing of the collapse of the towers. It seems like every time 9/11 is mentioned, they feel compelled to show that footage again. Was it not enough that we lived through it, that we were traumatized first-hand? I find it insensitive journalism. I understand the need to review significant events on their anniversary, but I wish to stay away as much as possible. For me, it's still a bit raw.
-
Hi, Vixmom. Can you tell us just where you're going or would you then have to kill us?
(We will assume a visit with the Vixter will be included.)
-
Re the news in my 'hood:
We have been given a new mail carrier, a seasoned woman who knows the route. It is hoped that she will clean up the mail mess. Or so we were told. Last February I complained (in writing) because we had had NO mail delivery for FIVE straight days. The following day our mail suddenly appeared. More recently, the carriers had stopped picking up any outgoing mail. My neighbor David corralled one of the carriers and asked about it. Her response: the outgoing mail truck leaves at 4 pm. Since we rarely receive mail before 6 pm there was nothing they could do. REALLY? Snail mail may seem rather archaic, but I, for one, still want my mail. And still want outgoing mail to be picked up. Daily.
End of rant. I think.
-
So, lots of aggravation.
I'm ready to move to another planet. I'm not sure I want it to be populated by humans, however.

For me, the stressful deadline is NOT a help. It's that there are tons of receipts, as you mentioned, and no one to help. Also, my documents seldom arrive on time, despite laws requiring them to do so. The booklet my accountant sends out was designed by accountants, for accountants. I'm not an accountant. It could be friendlier. I have legitimate deductions, but often don't know where they're supposed to go.
-
Speaking of tax accountants, does anyone have any ideas for how to find a good one? This person needs to be licensed to practice in California. I don't like large firms; I'd prefer a small firm or sole practitioner. I need someone who's patient with clients' questions. ??
-
And yes, I've been working on taxes.
-
Back to the to-do list.
TTFN.
-
Mail vibes for DR JEANNE.
-
In other news, the belt I purchased last fall is now TOO BIG and I had to go back to the smaller belt I used to use.....I am also wearing a pair of jeans that I could NOT button about two months ago....
The struggle is real.
I am going with my three sisters to see THE ODD COUPLE this evening. I hope it is funny....or at least I hope I have a chance to laugh a few times.....
-
I shall have an in-audience report when I return.
-
Travel vibes to Vixmom and Vixdad. I hope the trip continues to be relaxing and uneventful.
Thanks!
Travel vibes from us, too!
-
This has been a strange day. I've accomplished a few things, but I cannot get motivated to do much more.
-
Jeanne, doing it the way you are on Sept. 10th is early and more than on time in my opinion (as long as enough tax was paid in by April 15th so there will be no interest and penalties, of course).
But some clients routinely seem to like doing the info-gathering as late as possible and as quickly as possible, get it to the tax office on Oct. 5 or even later. Yes, they spend less time on it that way, but they almost always miss things that we have to get back to them on while preparing, and I don't think it works out well for either the client or the CPA.
-
Now that I've called my doctor about another hip injection, my left leg has decided to be as quixotic as possible: at 2:30 this morning I couldn't sleep for the pain. At the moment, I'm walking quite well on it.

Randy and Jo have been talking abot selling their home and getting something smaller. Here's what they've been looking at. It's two minutes from their current house.

Well, last night's WORDS went well...for the performers. It was a long evening, about 2 hours and 45 minutes. :P Unfortunately, it won't get much storter at tonight's (last) performance.
-
Otherwise, everyone did well (even me), but besides our house manager, we only had three other people in the audience. :-\ They enjoyed it, however. Hopefully, we'll have more people tonight. I know my sister and her boyfriend are going, so that's at least two.
-
After the show, I called my friend Margo and we went to a local restaurant a couple of blocks from the theater. We ate and chatted for a couple of hours. When I finally got home, I was too tired for anything, so I went right to bed. I got a good long sleep (for once), but my sister called and woke me up. I hate it when that happens.
-
My dad asked me to record a movie that was on on TCM this morning so that I could make a DVD for him. The movie? ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN. :D I'm now watching it as it records to my DVD burner.
-
I've never seen it all the way through.
-
Finished watching a wonderful documentary on the Flix of Net and now if I'm to jog I must jog otherwise I shan't jog and I must so I shall and now get me off this damn page.

Wow, think what a small place that amount of money would get in New York City.

Love it! It kind of looks like a newer version of our house from the front.
-
That's a very nice looking house, Larry.
-
However, that is one HUGE yard! I'm glad I don't have anything like that.
-
And now, I must be off. I have to get ready for tonight's final "WORDS, WORDS, WORDS: Science Fiction" performance. We can only hope for an audience to show up. We don't sell on-line tickets for this series, so we have no idea what it'll be like. Pray for Rosemary's Baby!
Be back later.
-
Back from a shorter jog - tomorrow the full jog and maybe even longer.
-
However, that is one HUGE yard! I'm glad I don't have anything like that.
I believe it's smaller than the yard they have now, though.
-
Just finished watching a documentary on Harold Lloyd that I'd recorded off of TCM.
Funny!
-
Page three? This is NAUSEATING!
-
Good evening. A very long but good day.
-
Good evening!
-
Page 3 at almost 11:00 p.m.?
-
There is nothing much I can do about this now.
-
I had to go to the Gala at Tacoma Little Theatre tonight.
-
I should still be out at the celebration, but I came home to take a pain pill.
-
Might have been more fun if I had.
-
Goodness, where do I begin.
-
One more post.
-
4our!
-
Four at 11:00 p.m.??
-
Not good.
-
Today I spent about two hours working on the book.
-
But I am not sure how much I have accomplished.
-
I gave birth to two more characters today.
-
That sounded better in my head than it does on
paper computer.
-
Still they are almost three-dimensional, which is a plus.
-
Greetings, 2 Guests!
-
What is your favorite bar snack?
-
What the hell is a bar snack?
-
Oh well, figure it out.
-
Anyway, I have been discussing my first book.
-
No, not the first book I ever read, but the first I ever wrote.
-
I have not written it yet, but I have started it.
-
I am finding I have a lot of dialog in my early chapters.
-
I say the early chapters, because Chapter 2 is going to be split into two chapters, and chapter one may be split into two chapters, as well.
-
So, I could be on chapter three, or I may be on chapter five or six.
-
It is all so confusing.
-
I guess my writing style is not as organized as Bruce's writing style.
-
But he has had more practice than I have.
-
I hope that dialog is not a no-no, because I have a bundle.
-
I like the dialog I have written so far.
-
I stopped working on the book, because I was afraid I would lose track of time again; and miss the Gala.
-
Oh well, tomorrow is another day.
-
Oh well, tomorrow is another day.
I like it! I wonder if I can put it at the end of my book.
-
Anyway, tonight was the Gala and the season preview.
-
The first show of the season is Steve Martin's UNDERPANTS.
-
I don't mean his actual underpants, but the play with that name.
-
Former reader Jed is in the production, and was in the scene presented tonight
-
5ive!
-
Jed has apparently lost a great deal of weight.
-
The play looked rather amusing to some people.
-

I will probably see the show two weeks from now.

-
Travel vibes to DR vixmom, and DH vixdad.
-
So, I could be on chapter three, or I may be on chapter five or six.
😄
-
The next play on the slate was DRACULA.
-
The play looked rather amusing to some people.
To "some". Are you hinting it did not look amusing to you?
-
This is being directed by George's friend pug.
-
Instead of doing a scene from the show, the director had the actor playing Renfield come out in character and explain the life of Bram Stocker. It was a clever idea.
-
For MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET they did a sweet scene between Kris Kringle and Susan, where he teaches her to use her imagination.
-
If the two actors that did the scene tonight, don't do it in the regular production, there is something terribly wrong. They were both delightful.
-
Then they did the opening scene from OF MICE AND MEN.
-
I disliked the book when I had to read it, and I really dislike the play.
-
It is like watching a fatal car accident in slow motion.
-
I must switch computers, I am very tired right now.
-
I am back.

'night
-
The next play on the slate was DRACULA.
I definitely want to see this.

Several friends of mine are in it, too!
-
I'm home.
-
Tonight, we had six, count 'em, SIX people in the audience!
-
'night
Night? I didn't even know you were here!
-
This has been probably the most advertised, but the least attended WORDS in the series. :-\
-
Do you know Brian Wayne Jensen?
-
Tonight, we had six, count 'em, SIX people in the audience!
How many did you have last night?
-
Tonight was about 15 minutes shorter than last night, but that was because one of our actors came down with a stomach bug and couldn't be there at all and we cut his two stories. They were good ones, too.
-
SIX!!
-
Do you know Brian Wayne Jensen?
I do know Brian. We've never acted together, but I've worked tech on several TAO shows that he's been in. He's a very good actor.
-
Tonight, we had six, count 'em, SIX people in the audience!
How many did you have last night?
Three who paid, and pug as house manager.

The unexpected highlight of the evening was the scene from EXIT LAUGHING.
The scene was hysterical. It is the story of four ladies of a certain age, who do everything together. When the play opens, one of the foursome has just died.
-
That doesn't sound funny, but the audience wouldn't stop laughing.

Yup...but at least it doesn't cost us anything to put on. It's not much, but it's all profit.
-
George, who would I write to regarding doing WRECKS at TAO?
-
Welcome home, Jane!
-
George, who would I write to regarding doing WRECKS at TAO?
TAO has a Facebook page and a FB group (but I don't remember which is preferred), or send me an e-mail and I can bring it up at our next board meeting, which will be Tuesday, September 20.
-
The unexpected highlight of the evening was the scene from EXIT LAUGHING.
It could be real fun if they did EXIT LAUGHING and ENTER LAUGHING (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003T8BWYI/) in the same season! :D

I told Sharry that she needed to do the play. The first non-musical she ever did at TLT was ENTER LAUGHTING back in 74 or 75. I think the last she should do is EXIT LAUGHING. She did the scene tonight.

TCB, there are no rules at this point - if you like dialogue, write dialogue. But remember, the joy in writing fiction is description - what are people wearing, what are the surroundings, what are the details. That's what I didn't understand at first, when I began Benjamin Kritzer - but my muse Margaret kept asking what people were wearing, what did this look like or that look like and that became my favorite thing - to write that stuff and evoke and make that interesting. All my books are dialogue heavy, but I take some pride in the chapters that have little to no dialogue or where I go pages without any. Just keep writing - even if you haven't found the form or style at some point you will and as I always say, the book will start writing you. With Benjamin Kritzer, I had no idea of the form until halfway through part one, when I wrote an anecdote about this girl I'd liked in the fourth grade. It was as it had happened in life - brief. But when I read it the next day I knew I'd just found the form of the book and its plot - and I just moved that to part two and it became the entire point and purpose of the book. I had no way of knowing that until it presented itself.
-
Back home from a late night visit to the Coral Cafe - joined some friends who'd seen Doug Haverty's play and then we all convened and ate - I probably ate too much, but all I'd eaten was the bacon and eggs and I jogged so I don't think it will hurt me.

Thank you for the advice, Bruce. I will take it to heart. There are moments when it feels like I am on to something, but other times, not so much. I will keep plugging along. Your writing is an inspiration to me. I will try for more description in my writing.
