Well, you've read the notes, the notes were so 2017, and now it is time for you to post until the 2017 cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: REJUVENATE!
-
First post after BK!
-
Welcome forty-four GUESTS! Come on in, the water's fine.
-
I was almost the first post after BK.
-
Page one? Really?
-
I think I'll go to bed early rather than stay up until three as I do most nights.
-
WOW! I don't think I could come up with any resolutions to top BK's.
-
WOW! I don't think I could come up with any resolutions to top BK's.
I know I couldn't.
-
And now, I'm off to bed. 8)
-
Good night!
-
TOD: I'm trying a resolution I may have a reasonable chance of keeping, at least for a few months. Instead of letting mail and packages pile up and get out of hand, i'm going to open it as it comes in and try to deal with it as quickly as possible.
-
I think I've said it before, BK, but maybe not on HHW - What a wonderful thing it is that you connected with Mr. Sherman, both for what it's brought to keeping the Sherman Brothers' and Mr. Sherman's work alive, and also for what it seems to have brought to your own work.
-
Good morning to all
-
I'm glad I'm here posting these notes. I narrowly missed killing myself, sister, brother-in-law and nephew last night.
This was due to an a-hole driver last night. The 1-95 towards Miami has express toll lanes which I was using. They are divided by pylons. There was an accident on the regular side and the a-hole driver to avoid the traffic backup drove through the pylons right in front of me. To avoid hitting him full on I swerved into the next lane (Luckily there was a second lane at this part) and side swiped another car. We pulled over. Very dangerous. We exchanged phone numbers. Got a picture of his license plate and moved on.
I looked at my car when I got home and there are minor scratches. I won't put in a claim. Will have to wait and see what the other person will do.
After the accident I continued to drive my nephew to Miami and we were in the car when the new year turned. Took me a hour to drop him off from the exit to the adress where he was going which it should have been 10 to 15 minutes at the most.
I turned around and drove home with all those crazy drivers. Which is why I don't go out on New Years Eve.
-
Good morning, all!
And Happy New Year!
-
There are moments I think that whatever struck me hard in 2013 is over, and more times than I'd like I'm reminded that it will be with me until I croak. So, I am grateful that 2016 was a turn for the better in both work and my health and I am even more grateful for the friends who helped me though the worst of the past three years. I can only hope that this positive move increases in 2017.

-
I need to run to a market first thing this morning, and then I will be indoors for today and tomorrow, cooking and working on two projects.
-
vixmom - What an interesting supermarket story last night!
Maybe you should write it up and submit it to the Times' Metropolitan Diary.
-
Happy new year, all!
-
Very scary story, Michael. Glad you're OK.
-
TOD:
I'd like to finish up Proust now that I've started it. I'm almost halfway through Vol. 4. The last three volumes are much shorter, so if I can just find some time tucked away somewhere, then here's hoping ...
-
TOD 2:
Finding time seems to be the big item on the list. I'd love to find the time to
Visit my folks.
Clean my house.
Play more with the bird, who is yelling at me right now to come play with him.
Travel.
-
TOD 3:
I'd love to find a way to make it to New York in March for The New Yorkers and in spring to visit my friend, Mickey, in Colorado.
-
While we're talking about the March HHW get-together -
Could anyone who's trying to make it to Manhattan for the April get-together (while Dr Matthew is in town) let me know which day works for them, Tuesday April 18, Wednesday April 19, or if either of those would be OK?
-
Good morning and Happy New Year!
-
That is a very frightening story, Michael. I'm so glad you are ok.
I think your new policy should be that you don't drive on New Year's Eve (unless you really want to).
Luckily the church is around the corner. The only reason I drive on NYE is because I have stuff I am bringing home.
-
PSA: If you make a cherpumple, frost it with lightly sweetened whipped cream. It cuts down on the sweetness. It is overwhelming with the cream cheese frosting.

Happy New Year !

Page 2!

I walked up to the market for some beef bones, and the stock is now boiling away. The apartment smells quite delicious!
-
DR Ginny, did your recording of Bach's Christmas Oratorio arrive?
-
New Year's morning greetings! Fr. Richard was asked Friday evening to perform today's service at the church in Dayton, due to a tragedy in the associate pastor's family. He should be about halfway through it now and I hope it's going well.
-
DR Ginny, did your recording of Bach's Christmas Oratorio arrive?
It was waiting for me when we returned from the surgery center on Thursday. It's on my listening agenda for the next several days of lying low.
Thank You!!!

Remember I said earlier in the week that there'd been a Carrie Fisher/Debbie Reynolds type of event in a family we know?
Here's the dual obituary that appeared in the local paper for Joe and Eric Heidler (http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/hamilton/obituary.aspx?n=joseph-william-and-eric-alan-heidler-joe&pid=183254342&fhid=15950).
-
Good morning, all.
-
And a Happy New Year to all of yez.
-
I am now officially halfway through this cold that came back.. This time it's leaving the building in the time honored but slower way, step by step, which is probably a good thing.
-
FJL - I, too, will put whichever date it is on my calendar.
-
Happy New Year!
-
We missed the ball drop last night. I went to bed around 10:30.
-
From Bruce:
That was kind of amazing what just happened. I'm listening to the Sibelius fifth, the final movement begins, which has one of my favorite moments in all music and that moment, which I love in the version I'm playing, occurred exactly at midnight - it swelled right into that moment and it was magical.
Perfect! Happy New Year!
-
Starting work on a new play in THE HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS collection today.
It will be multiple characters. Not sure yet how many...but BIG names.
-
DR George, nice and thanks.

DR Michael I am very grateful you are still with us in 2017.

This morning I began my first book of the year, "The Girl from The Savoy" by Hazel Gaynor.
-
I just signed up for the Goodreads book challenge, fewer books than I have previously challenged myself to but more than I read the last couple of years. The challenge lets you know if you are on track to reaching your goal, so far....
0
books completed
You’re on track!
At least for now I am on track ;D
-
thanks for sharing the link DR GINNY ... sad....
DR MICHAEL glad you are home safe and survived the driving of OTHERS.
-
Beginning the novel vibes for MR BK.....and of course success vibes for the rest of his projects for 2017!

I'm up, I'm up - I think I got eight hours of sleep. The sun looks like it's out.
-
The sun is out here and it is a very mild day
-
They started their January can can sale at the local market today. All store brand canned vegetables only 34 cents a can if bought by the case (12 cans). I was able to get 6 cases for the church food pantry for just over $28.
-
Then I went to church where we had a lovely service
-
Cleared up the communion linens and came on home
-
Then I made brunch for Vixdad and myself, eggs Benedict and mimosas and hot tea
-
Having a second mimosa now while my breakfast settles
-
Last night we watched noises off
-
And we just finished watching zulu

I played Tim Allgood in a local production more than 20 years ago. It was FUN!

Happy 2017 to one and all. Make sure to check out the new Broadway Radio Show as I countdown my favorite recordings of 2016!

This was from my second story window:
Not a lot, but it's something. :)
-
DR Michael that is a terrible story. Glad that you and your family are okay. Did you get the crazy driver's license plate?
-
I've been writing away - six pages in so far and having fun. But of course, as I wrote I began to think I'd made the wrong decision setting it in the first person - I felt that while it worked for the opening two paragraphs, even by page two it had become limiting and I was beginning to not like it. So, I called Muse Margaret and after explaining it she completely agreed that third person would open it up more and be more fun. So, I then spent an hour rewriting everything and adjusting it to the third person and it's much better now and certainly much easier because it feels more right. I think I'll go do a jog, then maybe write another page or two. If I get to page eight by the end of the evening I will feel VERY good about today's work.
-
Happy New Year!
-
And I've been cooking away! My original pot of stock and beef is now four cauldrons on every burner on my stove. I just put in the carrots and potatoes. The cabbage and cauliflower went in about 90 minutes ago. In another thirty minutes or so I'll add the corn, peas, green beans and lima beans. It smells quite deelish.
-
I've been listening to the 1950 Decca-London recording of Die Fledermaus conducted by Clemens Hrauss, and now I;m nearly finished with Hänsel und Gretel with Anna Moffo and Crista Ludwig as the Gobbling Witch.
-
Last night we watched noises off
That's a fun movie.
I enjoyed it, too.
-
Found out that a friend of mine, a chef, has been diagnosed with Parkinson's. He's only in his 40s.
-
I need a nap.
-
I some how missed replying to Michael 's car story. How scary! I am so,glad you are ok. But what a shame about the damage to your car. I expect the guy who was the cause just drove off unscathed
-
Found out that a friend of mine, a chef, has been diagnosed with Parkinson's. He's only in his 40s.
Oh, no. :(
-
Did a two-and-a-half mile jog, then rewrote much of what I'd written this morning, wrote two new pages and will definitely finish eight by the end of this evening, although I may just go on and get to ten pages, which feels right. It took a lot of cutting and pasting to get the flow right - I kept getting ahead of myself, and then I'm trying to cover a lot of character history in two or three pages, and that was hard to get right, but as I finished page seven just now, it all felt really good, so onward we go. I'll now start to get ready for the little get-together with friends.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Don't get ahead of yourself.
-
I'm watching a motion picture simply called Simon. I missed it back in the day and I'm not sure I missed much. But I love the cast: Alan Arkin, Madeline Kahn, Wallace Shawn, Austin Pendleton, Louise Lassar, Adolph Green, Fred Gwynne, Max Wright and more.

DR Jennifer if you are more than half way through a book do you count it for 2016 or 2017?
Well I finished my book yesterday so I did not have that problem. I personally would have marked it as done yesterday. Or I would go back and add yesterday's date as the finished date. Otherwise it screws up the goodreads challenge. I want to start fresh on the new challenge starting today.

Since I'm not halfway through my book, it's part of the 2017 list.
-
Wacky Noodles- both with wide egg noodles and bow tie pasta, is ready, Tuna pasta salad is out and ready. And yet no one is here. I could have used a little more milk for the two pounds of egg noodles - a bit dry they are but too late.
-
Sounds like my party last night, BK. I hope many people come.
-
Found out that a friend of mine, a chef, has been diagnosed with Parkinson's. He's only in his 40s.
That is a shame, especially for a chef. Vibes the newer treatments can keep it under control for a long time.

I feel the same way. I marked my, more than half read, book last night for last year though I still had a bit to finish this morning.

That is what I'm hopeful for. I lost a friend at church, Bruce, to the disease about 18 months ago. Some of the treatments they have are revolutionary, but they just weren't in time for Bruce.

Four!

I figure the year that I read the majority of the book should get the credit so I pushed myself last night to get past the half book mark before falling asleep.

Vibes for the friend of DR JOHN G.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
I caught up on last night's posts! Whew!
-
Vibes to John G's friend.
-
My hairdresser in Ashland, and her sister, were both diagnosed with MS around the same times. I went to her for 18 years before we moved and they were both doing fantastic. Granted they had the kind that goes into remission vs the progressive one. Newer medications and treatments made a big difference to them.
-
I caught up on last night's posts! Whew!
"Whew" Yup ;D
-
I like to spend a little time on New Year's Day getting organized for the new year. I did that and am glad it's done.
-
Vibes to DR Michael. I'm glad no one was hurt, but I imagine you're feeling rather rattled. I would be.
-
TCB, NY resolutions are when you promise yourself that you WILL get back to New York for a visit this year.
-
But I like Vixmom's explanation better.
-
Time for the third Brokenwood mystery. Too bad there are only four of these.
-

My feelings, too.

Today we saw "Manchester By the Sea" and to my surprise I was disappointed with it. I won't go into my reasons and they are spoilers. I think Keith liked it less than I did. We both did not care for the music. At one point Keith leaned over and said they needed to turn it down. Affleck & Williams both gave excellent performances.
-
John G, have you ever considered making a cherpumple? I imagine one could be quite imaginative with it. It's imaginative to start with.
-
Cherpumple cupcakes might be interesting.
-
TTFN.
Have a good rest of the year, everyone.

My aunt, the nun, was diagnosed with Parkinson's several years ago. I guess it's slowly progressing with her and the medications have been helping, so she's not in a horrible position...but still. :-\

Cherpumple cupcakes might be interesting.
Actually, that sounds like fun.
I don't know that I have cake pans big enough to make cherpumple.
And until I get back all these holiday baked goods, I don't have low enough blood sugar to contemplate such a feast.

But instead the second mimosa led me to an unexpected three hour nap

Thanks, Vixmom.
-
Instead of a proper dinner we snacked on little barbecued weiners, cold shrimp with lemon and cocktail sauce and cheese and crackers
-
But instead the second mimosa led me to an unexpected three hour nap
Amazing how well those work.
:)
-
Five!
-
I was hungry today and ate too much. We barely walked and I am sure I gained weight, not the best way to begin the new year ;D
-
Today was a good day for a nap.....I was watching Alfred Hitchcock movies on TCM and fell asleep during Marnie and woke up during The Birds.....Vertigo just ended.
I am getting ready to watch Ginger Rogers on The Merv Griffin Show....is it really 2017?

My third feature of the day was an ancient Bing Crosby escape called We're Not Dressing. Carole Lombard, Ethel Merman, Burns and Allen and a cast of great character actors made it very enjoyable. And it all ended in 75 minutes. Highly enjoyable.
-
I'm now listening to Ravel. As I try to write about distillation without getting too technical.
-
The little get-together was perfect, and just what I would have hoped for on the first day of a new month and New Year - happy conversation with some absolutely wonderful friends - Kay Cole and her ever-lovin' Michael, Shelly Markham, the Havertys, Marshall Harvey, the Shermans, and me. It was cozy and fun, everyone liked the Wacky Noodles, most of which were eaten, although it's a dish that does dry out very quickly, and I just loved every minute of it. It lasted exactly the four hours I allowed for it. And now, back to writing.

The party sounds like fun.
-
I've been writing about a party I went a couple of months on vacation. Getting back into the writing habit will take some time. And I need to make it this year.
-
Good night, all.
-
Finished a couple more pages for a total of slightly over ten - that feels like a very good first day's work.
-
Tonight we watched "Island in the Sky". John Wayne really could act.
-
Good evening!
-
Happy New Year
-
Michael, what a horrible experience. Thank goodness everyone was unhurt. I am so glad that things didn't turn out worse.
-
TCB, NY resolutions are when you promise yourself that you WILL get back to New York for a visit this year.
Jeanne, NYC is my favorite city on earth, but I am just not sure that it is that great a spot for those in wheelchairs or scooters.
I would love to visit again and to meet all the HHW's that I haven't met, plus rekindle my friendship with Skip and Fred. I will keep giving it some thought.
-
Unlike Bruce, I did not work on my book today. I should have, but I was just too
tired lazy.
-
I was awake until 3:30 or so and up again by 8:30.
-
Surprisingly, I am not tired tonight.
-
Of course, I didn't do anything to wear me out today either.
-
Funny stuff. This morning I was sure my instincts about first person/third person were completely wrong, for the reasons I posted earlier. So, I rewrote everything into the third person. But funnily, as I continued writing it got harder and harder to make it compelling in the third person and by page 11 I was really regretting my decision. I called Muse Margaret, but she'd already gone to bed. So, we'll talk at noon, but I already did a save as and did another complete rewrite back into first person and I think my original instinct was absolutely right and shame on me for not trusting it - but better to go back and forth at this early stage than figure it out later. Everything in the first person version seems to have a better flow and everything becomes more personal, which is really important in this book. I was concerned that it would limit my ability to comment on things later in the story, but that's just me being me. It's just as easy for the first person character to comment and it will probably work better anyway. So, that's what I've been doing. At noon, I will read Muse Margaret the first page of each version, but I already know she'll like the first person better because we'd discussed it and she felt as I did that it was the way to go. When I told her I was changing it and the reasons, she was fine with it, but I still think she preferred it the way I'd thought about doing it in the first place.

The Seahawks won their last game of the regular season today.
-
Next Saturday they play their first playoff game of the season.
-
Unfortunately, they aren't playing their best football at the moment, so I don't hold out too much hope.
-
I guess George left without posting.
-
I hope he is feeling okay.
-
I know he gets the holiday off tomorrow.
-
No mail or banking tomorrow.
-
Page six.
-
Last night's over 500 posts was fun.
-
It won't be long till we get to Oscar night.

I guess George left without posting.
I haven't really left. I've been ketchuping on my TV watching.

I've watched an episode of "Modern Family," two episodes each of " The Great Indoors" and "Black-ish," and three episodes so far of "Designated Survivor," and I still have the last episode of "Designated Survivor" to watch.

I think I need to make some soup or some stew this week.

Elmore's soup sounds yummy.
