Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a pattern, and now it is time for you to post until the patterned cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FRONDESCENCE!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
First post after BK's first three!
-
I was hoping that today would be a day of doing nothing, but nothing doing. I've got a union board meeting to go to. I don't think it'll last too long, so that's good.
-
And now, to bed
Have a good day, all.
-
Loved the big picture of vixmom last night!
-
Thanks, JohnG, for the Bing Crosby report!
-
More healthy vibes to DR Kerry!!!
-
TCB - glad to hear you have no hesitation about doing the other eye.
-
Good morning, all.
-
One weather site reports FOUR degrees. Another reports NINE degrees.
So who should I believe? I ask you!
-
I hope vixmom can post the other picture today.
Maybe I'll take one or two later. I haven't done that in a long time.
-
For now, I'm just basking in the recliner with my first cup of coffee. I am not ready to bundle up and brave the outdoors yet.
The neighbor plowed the driveway last night but there's plenty of edge cleanup and other work to be done with the snowblower this morning. I'm not looking forward to rushing into that.
-
Crazy dreams, man, all week, most on familiar themes. This morning's covered overnight stays in movie theaters and doughnuts. Yesterday's were doozies, covering odd preparations for a musical -- first in an office, then at a summer vacation type of place with people I haven't seen in thirty years. Earlier in the week, discovering huge southwestern mountain landscapes around the corner from where I was living or working. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Still drowsy from the 1/2 Benedryl. But I have to be up. Busy day today.
-
Thanks, JohnG, for the Bing Crosby report!
Got this six-movie box set of early Bing for Christmas. Looking forward to getting into the rest of it. One of the movies, Mississippi, has a Rodgers and Hart score.
-
Great photos from Vixmom and Elmore!
-
Time to skedaddle.
-
TODAY, ladies and gentlemen, is No Pants Day on the NYC subway.
-
Please read and follow instructions carefully. (https://improveverywhere.com/2017/01/03/no-pants-subway-ride-2017-details-for-new-york/)
-
Don't leave that senior metrocard at home.
-
Loved the big picture of vixmom last night!
Et moi aussi!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I was up early, but it was chilly, I was feeling lazy, and I went back to bed at 7:30, listening to the sounds of shovels scraping the concrete.
I had some dream about visiting Stephen Sondheim, a shrimp buffet, a bowl of piranhas, and some event in something like an airplane hanger or warehouse.
-
Back to midtown in another hour. I hope I do not have to wait too long for a bus.
-
Here's the other photo from my smackerel with Kathy and John yesterday. In the early 1980s John worked for my dad's company while he was finishing school.
-
Kathy says she will see if she has any photos from The Apple Tree of 1978. I hope so, since i have only one. Even the ever-reliable DR Ginny failed me on this one!
-
Sunday morning greetings! Today is my last day of lying low, so I'm home while the rest of the household attends church.
-
Kathy says she will see if she has any photos from The Apple Tree of 1978. I hope so, since i have only one. Even the ever-reliable DR Ginny failed me on this one!
Sorry, DR Elmore! I hope Kathy has some photos. I've enjoyed hearing about your visit with her and John. Did I know him?
-

No. He and Kathy dated after I moved to Manhattan. I didn't meet him until they came to New York to visit.
-
The batteries in both of my watches are dead. On my way back from City Cente this afternoon, I will stop at the 86th Street jeweler and take care of this. I hope the jeweler's open today.
If not, I'll check their hours, go to the market, and stop back tomorrow.
-
DR Vixmom your delightful photo put a bright smile on my face this morning.
-
TCB - glad to hear you have no hesitation about doing the other eye.
As am I.
-

Very nice.
-
Another fine Elmore photo.
-
It supposedly has gone up to 32 degrees here, but I don't believe it. I feel more like Cratchit wanting another coal for the fire.
-
Snow: BLOWN.
Chas: DONE.
-
I'm up, I'm up - a little over seven hours of sleep.
-

LOL. It is 31 degrees here before the wind chill factor. We are staying in. I just left a message at my dentist saying we are iced in. I think attempting to get to an 8:30 appointment is not wise.

:)
-
I loved DR VIXMOM's photo from last night.....and DR ELMORE's photo from today! I love photos of the denizens of HHW going about their various businesses.....
-
I tried out the new shower head today - and it is excellent. However I didn't get any ideas for a new book.....yet
-
Futzed and finessed and made a ton of little changes and added quite a bit - three pages of additions, so I've written three pages today, and will now print out all the pages up to that point for Muse Margaret. I'll get them Xeroxed and to her, then I'll eat, come home and write another five pages or so, then the rest this evening.
-

LOL :)
-
It made it to 49. But the wind is less kind.
-
I stopped at the jeweler's on my way home: closed. So, tomorrow.
-
It has been convenient having a jewelry department in our local market, Fred Meyer. They have been great for repairs and batteries. The jeweler did a beautiful job of making Keith's wedding ring smaller, without messing up the engraving. Now he wears his ring again :)
-
Rob and Mary Linda's wedding rings are from Fred Meyer, which is in a Kroger Marketplace in suburban Cincinnati. Rob felt funny going to a grocery store for that major purchase, but they've been very pleased with the products and the service.
-
I realized it was a Kroger store when I noticed all the Kroger products.
-
Our friends from L.A. were amazed at the size of our Fred Meyer. Having lived on the east coast I guess I am use to large supermarkets. I still remember shopping at Pathmark in New Jersey. I needed a couple of hours if I went there.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Happy to say that I'm much better today. Admittedly, a bit weak, but much better. I'm even doing the load of laundry that I wasn't able to do yesterday.
-
Thanks to all who sent condolences and healthy vibes.
-
After weeks of ferreting out my East Coast clothes from the depths of my closets--wool sweaters, Polartec pullovers, warm socks, boots, scarves--it is now 75 degrees. WHAT? I know many of you would love that right now, but the weather roller-coaster is a bit difficult on the old bod.
Speaking of the roller-coaster, I see that Texas has had quite a ride weatherwise. John G, do you get temps in the 30s very often?
-
A lovely photo of VixSNOWmom!
-
Please read and follow instructions carefully. (https://improveverywhere.com/2017/01/03/no-pants-subway-ride-2017-details-for-new-york/)
thanks for the explanation. One wondered...
-

What sort of shower head is it? I was thinking of buying one that filters out chlorine. I had one in Alexandria and liked it.

No. I moved south to avoid this cold nonsense as much as possible. I really dislike it.
-
TCB, thanks for your explanation last night. When people I know tell me about their surgeries and such, especially when there wasn't much discomfort, it gives courage to this scaredycat. It helps to know someone who's been through it. And I'm pleased that you had minimal discomfort.
-
Right now, I'm wearing a new J. Crew cardigan I bought after Christmas. It's outrageously warm, probably only good for a few days a year here.
-
How are you feeling, DR Jeanne?

But you now have a lovely new jacket.
-
How are you feeling, DR Jeanne?
I'm much better, thanks.
And your allergies?
-
And cardigan.
-
Some people say there's no such thing as bad weather--only bad clothes. I can't say I agree, but having the right clothes and gear does make a big difference.
-
Happy writing to BK.
TTFN.
-
Had eggs benedict at Four and Twenty Pies - couldn't get into Jerry's - thank goodness these horrid people who only go there during holiday periods (because kids are not back in school until tomorrow, this entire time has been one) will be gone and Jerry's will be back to normal, meaning very few people at the times I enjoy going there.
-
I am hungry cold and tired
-
I Xeroxed pages and then brought them to Muse Margaret who will now read them. Hopeful that she will enjoy them - I should hear at some point this evening.
-
Meanwhile, I'll write another few pages.
-
Happy to say that I'm much better today. Admittedly, a bit weak, but much better. I'm even doing the load of laundry that I wasn't able to do yesterday.
Excellent news DR Jeanne!
VIBES YOU CONTINUE TO IMPROVE WITHOUT ANYMORE SETBACKS!!!!
-
I am hungry cold and tired
Sounds familiar - Give me your hungry, your cold, your tired
-
I woke up for church this morning knowing that the driveway would need to be cleared again as we had about 4 inches ore since. I had last cleared it
-

Extreme temperature changes aren't great, something in-between would have been better. Still, I would rather have 75 degrees than our current cold temps.
-
Vixdad said to wake him so he could snowblower forme but he has been having a terrible time sleeping because if his carpal tunnel issues
-
It is a good day to clean drawers.

I was surprised how cold it does get there.
-
And this morning he was sleeping soundly so I didn't want to wake him
-

Growing up I always got sick when we went to the mountains to play in the snow. After moving to the East Coast I finally learned how to dress for the weather.
-
I had both cars cleared off and the pathway and about a third of the driveway done when he appeared in the scene ordered me back in the house while he finished the driveway
-
Instead of my usual 9 am service I went to the 10:30 service
-
I expect his carpal tunnel thanks you ;)
-
After the service the associate Pastor's husband and I started "degreening" the narthex while the Misa service was going on in the sanctuary
-
Then after Misa was finished a handful of other parishioners joined us in degreening the rest of the church
-
Pine needles everywhere
-
We were finally done around three and I got in the car to head home and the tire warning light came on
-
I stopped home where Vixdad had a hot cup of tea ready for me
-
I told him about the light and we decided I should take the car up to BJs tire repair
-
When I got there there was only one guy working and he was replacing all 4 tires on a car
-
Good afternoon.
-
Jane, here's the recipe I got from Christopher Ware, the bar genius at Paramour:
She might have had the Barrel Aged Cognac Old Fashioned. I took Camus VSOP and aged it for 1 year and 1 month in a 20 liter barrel. The recipe is roughly 2 oz. Choice of Spirit, 4-5 dashes Angostura, a sugar cube, ice and a orange zest if she wants to make it now and not wait a year!
-
He suggested I make an appointment and come back but I was nervous that I would be stuck with a flat so opted to wait It took well over an hour before he was done and the waiting room had no discernible heat source
-
He took my car in and checjed all four if the tires, said he found of damage but that two of them were low. He topped them all up and then said it was no charge
-
I'm an hour into Torn Curtain and I'm enjoying it thoroughly. Is it great Hitchcock? Nope. And who cares? It's got suspense. It's got Paul Newman. Even Julie Andrews seems to fit well into the Hitchcock woman mold. It's highly entertaining.
-
I tipped him the $10 I hoped to pay if it was a simple repair.
-

Very nice. We never know when we'll meet angels of all sorts.
-
Came home and just missed Vixdad who had plans for tonight
-
I still haven't eaten but right now there is a ham casserole in the oven so u hope to rectify that situation soon
-
Had eggs benedict at Four and Twenty Pies - couldn't get into Jerry's - thank goodness these horrid people who only go there during holiday periods (because kids are not back in school until tomorrow, this entire time has been one) will be gone and Jerry's will be back to normal, meaning very few people at the times I enjoy going there.
I think I could eat four and twenty pies.
-
Health vibes for Jeanne and Jack
-
Eye vibes for TCB and Ginny
-
Wrote three more pages - six so far. Will do another three after a break, and then two after that.
-
This ham casserole is so good
-
Why don't I have a ham casserole??
-
After the service the associate Pastor's husband and I started "degreening" the narthex while the Misa service was going on in the sanctuary
I had to look up both narthex and Misa.
-
I think I may need a second helping
-
Why don't I have a ham casserole??
if you get in your car. Right niw there is a tent tiny chance there will be some left when you get here
-
Is anyone planning to,watch the Golden gGlobes?
-
I wish I could eat ham casserole.
-
Poor whiny me.
-
Eye vibes for TCB and Ginny
Thanks, DR Vixmom! My eyes have watched a lot of football this weekend and I suspect DR TCB's have, too.
-
I don't think I can stand the self-congratulatory GG Awards tonight....I watched a moment of the arrivals and everyone was being very obnoxiously political in their comments.....so I may skip this show....

Thank you for asking, and please thank Christopher for sharing. I had the one on the menu. I don't recall it was made with aged Cognac. WOW, what a recipe. The recipe is almost identical to Craig's which I love. It must have been the aged cognac that made it extra special.
2 0z. bourbon
3-4 dashes Angostura bitters
1 tsp. simple syrup or finely ground sugar (with just a bit of water)
Orange peel for garnish
Next time I am at a proper bar I will ask them to make me an old fashioned with cognac. Without the aging it won't be the same but I am curious to try it. I don't have all the ingredients to make it at home. When Craig lived with us he would make one for himself and a half drink for me. The funny thing was all that time I had no idea what I was drinking, just that it was Good.
Again, THANK YOU :)

Is anyone planning to,watch the Golden gGlobes?
I should have recorded the red carpet. Apparently my niece will be walking it. I doubt the cameras will focus on her and I saw the nice photo she put up on facebook.
-
I'm going to drive tomorrow for the first time since I can't remember when. My car's been parked on the street since before Christmas, so Richard went out to clean the snow off and to make sure it would start. It did, so I'm good to go tomorrow afternoon.
-
It will be interesting to hear how the world looked on your first drive after the surgery.
-
Sitting here like so much fish - I don't want to continue writing until the Muse Margaret call comes. The longer that goes on the more worried I get, but still hoping she likes it.
-
She did read the first paragraph while I was sitting there - out loud - and loved it. It is literally a paragraph consisting of one sentence, my longest opening sentence ever and one I'm very happy with.
-
Listening to music by French composer Albert Roussel - I like some of it very much, but some leaves me a bit cold.
-
It will be interesting to hear how the world looked on your first drive after the surgery.
Well, I'm only going about 5 minutes from here, so there probably won't be much to tell...
-
;D

Yeah, it looks good. The wood will give it a little extra oomph, but you could age it in a good glass jar. Just keep it out of sunlight.

I think that was one of Kierkegaard's essential questions, right?

Interesting. I have cognac in the house. Maybe I will try aging a little of it.

It appears my niece had fun on the red carpet.
-
Is the Golden Globe show on tape delay on the West coast?
-
I've done eight pages so far. Muse Margaret called and she is very happy and loving this book. That, of course, made me very happy. She loves the lead character, loves the new character I just introduced twenty pages ago, and she thinks the story is working really well. In fact, she only had one tiny comment, and that was to explain what some initials meant - that was an easy fix that took all of ten seconds. So, my favorite kind of call to get.
-
Great news, BK.
-
Good night, all.
-
I was hoping that today would be a day of doing nothing, but nothing doing. I've got a union board meeting to go to. I don't think it'll last too long, so that's good.
Well, the union meeting only lasted about 50 minutes and we got some good work done...a few decisions were decided and other stuff was discussed, then we all left. I was going to go home, but I called my friend Margo to see if she wanted to get something to eat because I was starving (almost), and she lived fairly close to where the union meeting was held, so it wouldn't be a long drive for either of us.
-
We decided to go to Olive Garden. We both had the create your own Italian dinner (http://www.olivegarden.com/specials/create-your-own-italian-dinner/) for only $10.99 each. I got the angel hair pasta with Asiago Garlic Alfredo sauce. We both had the salad and breadsticks for the first course, and the Dark Chocolate Caramel Cream for dessert. My diet Coke was extra, and I added grilled chicken to my pasta (which wasn't worth the price). But otherwise the main course wasn't too bad. I don't know if I'll have the angel pasta again, but I took half of it home, so I'm looking forward to that. :)
-
Then, I came home and started to balance my checkbook. It's been almost three, count 'em, THREE months since I did it! :o What was I waiting for?? I would check my balance on-line to make sure I'm not spending too much, but I really also need to make sure that there aren't any charges that shouldn't be there. At this point, I'm still entering the receipt amounts into my Excel spreadsheet check register, so it's slow going. We'll see what happens when I'm done with that and compare it to what my on-line account shows. ::)
;)

Is anyone planning to,watch the Golden gGlobes?
I'm recording them because I'm down on my old computer balancing my checkbook. I was planning on recording them anyway, because Margo wanted a DVD copy to watch.
-
Is the Golden Globe show on tape delay on the West coast?
It's live across the country. It's being rebroadcast at 8:00 pm, so it'll be on twice in a row.
-

Nice!
-
And now that I've caught up on all the posts, it's back to the checkbook register entering.
-
I've done ten pages, started a new chapter and will try to get one more page done, which would make eleven.
-
I've finally finished entering all my (known) purchases into my checkbook register.
-
Now, I need to make sure that everything is correct with what's been charged in my actual account on-line. That'll take some time, too. HOPEFULLY, there won't be any unexpected anomalies.
-
Listening to a little Mussorgsky - very exotic and I like this a lot better than Rimsky-Korsakov.
-
WHEW!! My checkbook balanced exactly!
-
I would've thought that I might have made some typos or other assorted mistakes because of how much I had to enter in this one session or because it was a long time since I had balanced it the last time, but when I finished entering everything (and saving my file) and then deleting the items that haven't cleared yet, it was exactly correct! :D
-
Listening to a little Mussorgsky - very exotic and I like this a lot better than Rimsky-Korsakov.
While balancing my checkbook, I listened to a couple of classical CDs that I got from the library: Durufle: Requiem, Mass-Con Jubilo, Motets (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B000031X3K/), and Mennin: Moby Dick; Symphonies Nos. 3 & 7 (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0000006ZM/).
-
"Moby Dick" was recorded with the Seattle Symphony, conducted by Gerard Schwartz. He was pretty famous around these parts. Both CDs were very good...in my opinion of limited knowledge.
-
Well, since we're so close...
-
PAGE SIX MOBY DICK DANCE!!

-
When I was a senior in high school, I was selected to go to the All-State Choir. One of the pieces that we sang was "Ubi Caritas" by Duruflé, which is on the CD that I just listened to.
-
And when I was going to Western Washington University, I'm pretty sure that we sang the Duruflé Requiem.
-
I'm not religious in any way, but I love the music to that requiem.
