Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a Boy Friend, and now it is time for you to post until the sparkling cows come home.

George, Brewery City Pizza says they have cashews for their pizzas, also. What is it with the South Sound and their nuts?

I don't know him well, but we did get him to reconcile with Twiggy and do Room in Bloomsbury on her CD - I was trying to gently give him some direction and he was kind of just looking at me, and Twiggs piped up instantly, "You listen to Bruce, he's brilliant."  Then he listened.

Yesterday in the mail, I received a couple of CDs from Dresscircle.com: a CBC Radio Production of Hey Marilyn (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Hey-Marilyn-1978-Radio-Cast/20620), and a demo recording of a musical version of The Fly (http://www.dresscircle.com/stage-musicals/3711-the-fly-the-musical-cd-5026107054963.html).  What's cool about my purchase of The Fly is that I got it just when it was on sale for only £2.16 (about $2.69...it's normally £4.16).  HOWEVER, if you want to get it on Amazon.co.uk right now (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003HJH61W/), it'll cost you a whopping £86.23, which is $107.42...AND the one seller who has it, won't or can't send it to the US!

:o WTH??

CD ordered.

The first time I saw THE BOY FRIEND was on the CBS Late Night Movie - which I think had the record for the number of commercial breaks and commercials in the breaks....it was of course hard to follow.

I liked it better when I saw it on DVD and most recently on TCM.  Barbara Windsor - a friend of the Kray Brothers - is not much of an actress in anything, and I'm not sure she was in on the joke....but she is entertaining.

And Twiggy is a delight to be sure - her CD produced by MR BK is one of my all time favorites.

THE MYSTERIOUS MAN has assured me that he wants to produce a serious Allison Hayes documentary [insert DR ELMORE laughing here] and not a sensational one.

They may send someone out to interview me, which would be fine.....he said he has Roger Corman and Mara Corday and a couple of performers he can't mention yet lined up....so we shall see what we shall see.   I will do my best MR BK impression if I get on camera.....

Sorry, BK:

I hated the overblown movie version of THE BOY FRIEND.

I'd seen it done on stage several times.  Loved it.  It was fun.

But, the film...

Yesterday I ended up spending much more time with the sounds of Mr. McGlinn than expected, and then I got the request for recording that song, and now I'm a whole day behind on everything.  Fortunately, a day behind doesn't really affect anything at this point, but it's just amazing how easily that can happen.

I slept quite poorly/  I aswoke around 1:30 and got back to sleep some time after 3:00am.  Par of it was anxiety, part was working out an orchestration problem, and part of it was anger aq person making my life needlessly difficult at the moment.

Ten years ago today, around 1:00am, my father William E. Moore died at the age of 85.  He was a kind, decent man with a love for his family and a great work ethic.  I miss him daily.

I had been posting from Ohio daily reports to HHW on his health and decline. I posted this ten years ago around 2:00am:
My father, William Edgar Moore, born Fallsburg, KY, Dec. 14, 1921, passed away around 1:00 AM EST today, about 55 minutes ago.

I will miss him.

I want the new edition of The Boy Friend!

I loved working on Twiggy's "London Pride"album; she and I have the same birthday. when we finished the recording, I rented in VHS every film that she was in, just to spend more time with her.  The strangest? The Doctor and the Devils.

Well, I must get me into a POSITOOVITY frame of mind, and get that project done and out of the building.

Then, back to La Cage, entering performance notes just received from the MD and making sure I know what the hell I'm doing when I sit down to play it.  Looks like we have a band of about eight, which is nicer than I'd expected.

God, this Samuel French website is a pain in my arse.  (Not that any of them win any awards in my book.)  But it looks like that number is, in fact, the whole revival orchestration.  Which I sort of remember now from seeing it.

JRand, I remember those nights of watching movies on the CBS late show. The commercial breaks were more frequent than those on a PBS fund drive.

But they were also the only place to see some movies like Robert Altman's HEALTH or Night Moves with Gene Hackman.

OMG.  Done.  Now to edit nine (count 'em) passages together in Audacity.  Without having another couple of days at my disposal to work this thing into -- shall we say -- more "honest" shape (which is totally unnecessary, anyway), it just had to be broken down into pieces.  I think I can do this well enough that not a single edit will be detectable.  We shall see.

I know I'm talking apples and oranges here, but there is often great psychological benefit, in learning to play something, to start at the end and work at it in sections moving back toward the beginning.  I just did it with this very song.

I believe some of the musical numbers were trimmed. Watching it on TCM and in One of the first musical numbers it had a couple of jumps as frames were missing where the footage was put back. One would think that they had access to the European version

There is nothing missing in this Blu-ray, nor was there anything missing in the Warner Archive DVD of 2011.  My only tiny wish is that they'd included the cut down version for the folks who originally saw it that way - because that's the way we fell in love with the movie.

Time to finish up Cromwell. The king has been beheaded. But we still have a little pontificating to go before the credits.

Starting to watch a movie called Don't Think Twice that every critic seemed to fawn over last year. I think I'm too old.

Druxy, I would have expected nothing less. :)

As Mervyn LeRoy once said to me: "The problem with Hollywood is that they take a hit Broadway play or musical and improve it into a flop."

They were so controversial, or at least the language was, back in the day.

I wonder if they would seem tame now.

Even if they were tame, they would probably still be funny.

Sadly, I won't get to find out how this movie ends. The library copy is terrible. Somebody must have dunked the disc on coffee thinking it was a doughnut.

Listening to music.  First I listened to two SACD Sibelius - Colin Davis doing the fifth (and second) symphony - didn't like it when I first heard it mostly because I hated the muffled sound - here the sound is MUCH better but I still don't care for the much-lauded performance, which kind of bugs me.  Then a fifth symphony conducted by Ole Schmidt, which I'd listened to on regular CD.  Again, sound is much better on the SACD, and the performance is certainly decent but not exceptional.  Then I began to listen to the third symphony conducted by Mravansky - interesting, with weird sound (live performance from the early 1960s - it gets better as it goes and I like the performance - I'm saving the rest).

TCB, if you have a sore throat, drink hot ginger tea or even heat up ginger ale. Ginger will help.

Thanks John, I will keep that in mind.  Today the sore throat is gone.

I got home about 45 minutes ago.  I had to feed my face, take my meds, and check out a DVD that I was burning on my computer...and I played a few games of solitaire, too. ;)

We had a good rehearsal tonight.  The sound is pretty much set, and the lights just had to be tweaked a couple of times, so they're good now.  The actresses are all very solid in their roles.  Everyone really knows their part and the show is going to very well.
