Title: FIXING THE FLUTE AND VIOLIN
Post by: bk on December 17, 2017, 12:04:30 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were accompanied by fixed flute and violin, and now it is time for you to post until the fixed cows come home.

BK, I wonder if the the lack of audio samples is hindering the sales of LEVI!, and that they'll pick up once you add them.  Just a thought.

Yesterday, Jane asked, "DR George do you have a favorite animal I might find in Africa?"

Jane, no, I don't have a favorite animal, but my sister collects elephants.  If you can find a really nice elephant keychain and wouldn't mind that it's for my sister (and I definitely will pay you for it, so if you can find something special, that would be great), I'm sure that she would love getting one that's actually from Africa. :)

Yes, and yes!

Today, I'm ushering for the other local production of "The Nutcracker" ballet.  I have to find (and probably wash) my black pants first, though.  I couldn't find them yesterday, so I wore some dark gray slacks, which is allowed when working concessions.  For ushering, it has to be black pants (or whatever on the lower half) and white on top.  I have a couple of clean white shirts, so I'm set there.

Not sure about the audio samples - it's the Sherman Brothers so there should be some level of comfort there - but we'll have them up just as quickly as we can get them up.

I too love elephants.  On the 20th we are going to an elephant park.  Maybe I will get lucky there and find a good one.  If not there should be other opportunities going forward.

I did not get to bed until some time between 12:30 and 1:00.  At 7:30 Annabelle let me know it was breakfast time, so I got up, put on my underclothes, fed the babies and the birds, and went back to bed.  Around 9:30 Annabelle began jumping into bed with me.  I don't think she was afraid I was dead or worried about my health, but she kept coming back, chatting a bit, then leaving.  I suspect she was complaining that Thatch ate her food as well as hers.

So, at 10, I figured it was time to get up and ponder the day's events.

Post by: elmore3003 on December 17, 2017, 07:30:38 AM
Thatch is getting friendlier to me, but it's still passive aggressive.  Oe minute he lets me pet him, or hold him, and five minutes later he hides when he sees me coming.

This makes me happy, because I'd like to see us bond as well as Annabelle and I have.  I've been torturing her with meds twice a day for a month now, and she's as affectionate as ever.  I consider Thatch her property and friend, since he was adopted for her, and they now get along quite well.  Still, I do love the little bugger.

I had to fire Annabelle again. She insisted on being my sous chef this morning. So, I thought, this might be a good career move. Instead, she sat in the kitchen sink, played with an egg shell, ate a cockroach, and ignored all my instructions. I was really embarrassed for her.

The hippos were very cute and since it was their sleep time they left us alone.  The boat tour was great, lots of pods (family groups) of hippos, a baby and an adult croc, along with beautiful birds including African Sea Eagles.  Keith is compiling photos to create a video for Facebook.  I haven't a clue how to share it here.

As I was sitting at the computer tonight, Thatch actually walked past me several times brushing against my leg and letting me pat his body. Then, later when I passed him in the kitchen, he ran in terror.

While I have no urge to see the musical version of A Christmas Story, I remain a huge fan of the film, which captures much of my memories of midwestern winters and Christmas in the late 1940s.

A person on Cast Recording List just put down the film, along with the musical, because his superior literate East Coast adolescence was nothing like the events in the film.

Same.  I had it on while DVRing it, and except for a couple of songs I thought reasonably clever or inspired, I was uninterested in the music.

But — a thousand times yes to the film as DR Elmore observes.  Not only the midwestern memories and the feel that were so perfectly captured, but my beloved Cleveland and Higbee’s and other settings blow me away.  We didn’t know how good we had it, and how soon it would all begin disappearing.

Not a problem, DR KevinH!  Thanks!

My grandfather died when I had just turned three, and I remember leaving the visitation at the McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home with my parents around 8:00pm on a cold December night.  The Christmas lights and decorations on Broad Street sparkled in the crisp frozen air, reflected in the ice on the streets.  Whenever I see the film of "A Christmas Story" the film's reality of that period of time seems frozen to that night on Broad Street as if I could step back into my childhood of nearly seventy years ago.

And now, I'm off to usher for "The Nutcracker."

Be back later.

The test of a good production is how they handle the growing Christmas tree.

I didn't go in to watch, so I don't know how either production handled it. ::)

I'm not a fan of the new opening number sung during the opening credits. :P Completely different from the rest of everything.

John, the biggest idiot and bag of wind on Cast Recording List, just put down the film, along with the musical, because the Miss Crabapple's girls' finishing school he attended was nothing like the events in the film.

I had a bootleg of the original cast in New York. Didn't care for it at all. Not because it was or wasn't the movie. It was just a lousy show. But sometimes another medium can make some material seem better. From the catty Facebook comments, I doubt this is the case, still I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Went out to dinner with friends tonight. Nice and quiet. She had quadruple bypass surgery earlier this year. He has been rather housebound taking care of her. She's now almost totally in the clear, so it was nice to get her out and let him have a chance to talk. He used to be much higher up at the same company that I work for and it still means a great deal to him. So, I let him go on. And they both enjoyed the Italian place I picked out.

There is nothing other than a large check that would make me watch A Christmas Story the Live Musical - I know exactly what it will be and everything I've read thus far supports that.  I'm sure everyone will LOVE it and rave and they'll either lie about the ratings or spin it in a way that will make them look like a hit.

Well, I don't love it...but I don't hate it, either.  I like it.  I do still love the original movie, though.

AARRGGHH!!  As I was recording the broadcast, I was also recording it onto my DVD burner.  But, I set something down on my DVR remote and it screwed up the display of the show.  Fortunately, not the recording.  So, I'll need to rerecord the program onto my DVD burner.  I'll set it up do that when I go to sleep.

Marge Champion was the model for the Disney dancing hippos.

The elevator crew has been here every other day now for a week: it runs for a brief shining moment and dies.  It was dead last night when I went out at 7:30 and it's still dead, so I'm going nowhere at present.  i cannot navigate stairs and several bags of groceries.  Val tells me the new elevator installation will begin in January.

A new elevator is great, but January is certainly not soon enough! :-\

I agree!
