Today, the family is getting together for our annual Christmas Eve do at our parents' house.  We exchange names for gifts, so we each only need to get one person a gift.  I got my mom's name, so I got her one gift certificate to her favorite Chinese buffet restaurant, two new decks of Phase 10 cards, and three bags of Ghirardelli chocolates.

Coincidentally, my mom got my name.  I'm sure that I'll love whatever she gets me...probably an Amazon gift card, which would be fine.

While they're playing, I'm listening to Elisabeth Schwarzkopf's wonderful Christmas album for EMI,  She just sang a cafrnce to a Ferman carol that sounded exactly like "the world is mine" from Cabaret's "Tomorrow Belongs to Me."

I have much tidying this morning.  I need to take a big bite out of Me and My Girl,  Joshie's back in three days and I want to give him an invoice!  When he's back, he may have work for me on this first Encores! show, Hey Look Me Over.

When Thatch comes off his breakfast energy, I will treat his eyes,  I have the litter box, washing up their breakfast dishes, taking the Amazon carton and other trash to the basement, vacuuming, and feeding myself when that's all accomplished.

Well, maybe.  I was getting soft focus and blurred ones much more with my previous phone than with this new iPhone.  But still, it’s really tricky.

Just received the new one of Thatch.  He’s the cutest little thing!

I’ll try.  Let me move to the computer first.  I don’t know how to do it from the iPad.
Title: Re: THE DAY OF THE DO REDUX
Post by: ChasSmith on December 24, 2017, 07:43:38 AM
Here it is.  This one isn't blurred, it's just out of focus.  The phone either has trouble focusing at these close distances, or you need to try telling it where to focus; i.e., getting the picture framed and tapping the point to focus on (or whatever the process is on your phone), then take the picture.  But like I said, it's tricky.  I've been through much trial and error on this.

Edit:  I never know if, or how well, this is going to work on the site, but click to enlarge.  This one opens a separate window for me, and it's quite a bit larger.  And yet the file is no larger than anything else we post here.  Go figure.
Title: Re: THE DAY OF THE DO REDUX

Looking back at DR Ginny's from yesterday, those ARE a bit blurred, but still definitely out of focus.
Title: Re: THE DAY OF THE DO REDUX
Post by: ChasSmith on December 24, 2017, 07:55:36 AM
So, the way I posted it is probably way too complicated, but it's the one way I know that will get the job done:

In the text message, tap on the picture to "open" it.  Then tap the little "share" thingie and email it to myself.  Go to computer, open the email, and save the image.  Post it as an attachment the usual way.

I think that was it.  This would surely be a simpler process using the third party hosting method, like what we were doing with Photobucket.  I think.  I'm not the whiz on these things that I seem to be.

Every year when BK talks about the Do, and when I see the daily subject title containing the word Do, I always think:

What did the Duke do?

(When the Doge did his duty and the Duke didn't, that's when the Duchess did the dirt to the Duke with the Doge...)

If we all got on a plane right now, we could comfortably be there in time for the Do.

Wouldn't that be a lovely surprise?

It would, of course, put BK over his planned total attendance, causing all HELL to break loose...

The Spanish speaking congregation being more liturgically correct have been celebrating according to the church calendar their service was at 11:30 tiday. So I nipped up to church around 1 and changed the hangings from blue to white, refilled all the candles ( we use oil candles not wax) and set up for the 1st evening service.

You must have some kind of fish, Elmore. If you were Italian, you would be having the Feast of the Seven Fishes.

Last year I had the Feast of Approximately Seven Fishes, because I don't know what all was in that bag of frozen fish stuffs. I only liked the shrimp.

Tonight I am having the Feast of the One Fish. Just shrimp. And since I live in the desert, it is frozen.

John, yesterday's produce box contained about two or three pounds of garlic. I took a dozen heads to the next door neighbor. He was about to smoke a brisket, he said, and was just about to go to the store to get garlic.

Go figure.

Watched a little of Wonder Woman - I'll see how it progresses, but right now I'm not finding much to enjoy - it's just a typical one of these things that starts with portentous and DEEP-voiced narration, then goes to a history lesson filled with all the usual CGI crap we see in every one of these movies.  So, did this get the raves it did simply because it's a female superhero and the direction is by a woman (directing exactly as a man would)?  Because if that's the case there is something seriously wrong with people today.  But then I haven't liked any of these so-called joyless superhero movies of the past two decades.  And it's not like there haven't been other female superheroes within those movies.  Hopefully this will become enjoyable at some point.

We are back from a nice Christmas Eve service at the Dayton church that Richard likes.  The snow had really picked up while we were there, which made our drive through the luminaria at David’s Cemetery especially beautiful.

BroadwayWorld did an article the other day about the three-show TRU Voices musicals series which includes VIVA MAX! written by Skip, DR-emeritus Julie, and me, based on Jim Lehrer's novel, directed by Evan Pappas:

Oh!  I missed this earlier this morning - congratulations, all!

Thanks, Ginny!

We spent most of the day Christmas Eve getting the show materials together, and have now stopped working on the show for the holiday.  Or at least i think we have.   (Since it's kind of enjoyable to work on with a goal, I may be tempted back to it tomorrow.)  We've let our Christmas gift list know we start Christmas shopping on Tuesday.

I'm home and the drive was not too bad.  It's still snowing a little, but it was only sticking in my condo complex driveway.

I am back from a beautiful Christmas Eve service

preservice music was the brass choir, followed by the bell choir, followed by the string choir

After that we who were serving  and the Pastors processed in, and then after opening prayers the traditional choir processed in

The various choirs kept rotating throughout the service, we ended with the singing of Silent Night by candlelight

Sauce is simmering away.  This stove is fantastic - different burners for different thing - so sauce is on the small simmer burner and when I do the pasta there's the big-boy burner for "quick boil."

You may find that you enjoy cooking!

Earlier this afternoon a group of us sprang a surprise Christmas party on a friend who’s stuck in the hospital after skin graft surgery. I think he was touched.

What a nice thing to do.

It's snowing in Tumwater! :D

that's enough snow to have the effect, but not enough to be inconvenient. "Conversational snow," as some people call it.

Do is done.  So much for downsizing the Do - I think we had thirty or more people here.  It was all fine and mostly we had little spillage - but then again I kept walking around saying, "No spillage."  And the Shermans did indeed come and Richard did our annual little musical soiree towards the end.  A good time was had by all and I have to tell you that almost the entire five pounds of pasta is gone and there was so little sauce left I was gobsmacked.  Everyone thought the sauce was the best it's ever been and I attribute some of that to this amazing stove.

So, George, what did you get for Christmas?

Well, at my family's Christmas Eve do and gift exchange, I got gift certificates for Subway, Red Robin and Amazon.  My niece owed me some money for a couple of thing that she had me buy for her on eBay, so she paid me with a gift card for Best Buy.  My aunt sent us some very random gifts.  They're marked "For a Male" or "For a Lady."  I picked a gift that turned out to be a ratchet set. ;D
