Yesterday, I had lunch with Margo and Marsha at The Rock Pizza and Spirits.  I had the Peppercorn Chop salad.  I didn't love it, but it was good.  After that, Margo and I went to see "The Greatest Showman."  Again, I didn't love it, but Margo really liked it.

After the movie, we went our separate ways, and I went to my parents' house.  My sister and niece stayed home, so it was just me and mom and dad.  We played three games of Phase 10, and I won all three games!!  I don't think I've ever won two games in a row, so this was a record for me! ;D

Then, my dad decided to go to bed, so that's when my mom and I watched "The Shawshank Redemption."  I hate to admit it, but I've never sen this movie.  My mom loves it and has seen it at least five times.  I actually bought it a few years ago, on Blu-ray even, but I never watched it.  What was wrong with me?  It's really a great movie!

The finally, I left to come home but didn't get here before midnight.  I was still driving in my car at the moment.  I was listening to a local radio station, and I didn't even hear any "Happy New Year," at all.  What's that all about?? :o

Last night, the kitties and I watched the BBC Shakespeare production of Measure for Measure.  Shakespeare sure sprawls in this one.  Its final scene goes on way too long, and John McEnery's Lucio goes on way too long as comedy relief. As to the production, it's very beautiful with wonderful sets and costumes, and very well cast.  Kate Nelligan is wonderful as Isabella, and a young Alun Armstrong plays the kindly Provost.  Adrienne Corri was a prettier Mistress Overdone than I expected, but I've loved her since she played the clan leader in Vampire Circus.

Today is a most welcome day of rest.

Some friends are hoping I’ll go down to Brooklyn for their annual New Year’s Day partay this afternoon.  It’s a nice tradition which I have not participated in in a very long time, it only lasts from four to seven, and of course I should go.  But... but... but... for me, it also kills the entire second half of the day.

So, we shall see.  Oh yes.  See, we shall.

On our sunset drive, beginning at 3:30, we returned to the same spot.  To our delighted surprise the lions were still there.  This time they were sleeping and only one cub paid us any attention.

It was just the two of us for the evening ride giving us the opportunity to ask lots of questions.  We talked about how unnerving it was when the big cats stared at us and why they left us alone.  She said they saw the 4x4 as a unit but if any of us had gotten out of the vehicle we would have been eaten.

I don't believe I have ever even read MEASURE FOR MEASURE.

It's a very dark play of lechery and hypocrisy set in a Vienna where fornication is punishable by death.  The Duke claims to go off on a mission and gives full reign to rule Vienna to his friend Angelo; instead, the Duke disguises himself as a priest Friar Lodowick to see what's going on.  Angelo closes the brothels, locks up the  pimps and whores, and condemns young Claudio to death for fornication.  His sister Isabella, a novitiate nun, pleads for his life but Angelo promises to save Claudio on the condition that Isabella sleep with him.  She, Friar Lodowick, and Mariana, the woman once betrothed to Angelo, plan to replace Mariana in Isabella's bed.  The next day, Angelo breaks his word and orders Claudio's immediate execution, forcing the Duke's return from his journey.  Before it's over, Isabella is forced to believe her brother dead, the kindly jailer Provost is in jeopardy for declaring the head of another prisoner as Claudio's, Mariana has to plead for Angelo's life, and it goes on too long.

1. I finished the first draft of the new THE HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS play, so today I will do the final touch-ups before I send it off to get my proof copy tomorrow.

2. Assuming we are not snowed or iced in, I will be taking wife Sandy out to her birthday dinner.

A Very Happy Birthday to DW Sandy!

Tonight, I believe he kitties and I will watch the BBC Shakespeare Love's Labours Lost.  I'm getting through the plays I do not know well. After this, another play with a bed switch, All's Well That Ends Well.

Is Annabelle likely to audition for some Shakespeare in the new year?

Desperate Measures, in contrast, is very funny and it was over all too soon

Thank God, no.  You do not want to hear her mangle the Bird of Avon. She's pissed that she wasn't seen for CATS, and she's seeing what musicals are being revived.  Today she and Thatch were superheroes all day: Wonder Woman and The Flash.

Elmore, see if you can find one of those dumb Elf things that are all the rage with kids now. I found a mini one yesterday while trying to find something for Queenie (one of the Night Cats) to play with (he was pouncing on a piece of wood). I tossed it out to him, and he grabbed it and ran into the bushes. I'm sure he tore it apart with much glee. I remember that one of our house cats carried one around for a while -- I don't remember who, though.

Annabelle and Thatch may like one to play with.

I decided to call some folks last-minute so we will have at least six people come between six and eight.  Went to K's Donuts (also open) and got me a peanut butter chocolate donut thing prior to knowing I was going to do the little get-together - I ate that all up, of course, but I went to Ralph's and got cupcakes of various varieties and a Black Forest cake.  Mostly I just thought it was nice last year when we did it so it will be nice this year.  And I'm pretty much done with today's writing, almost eleven complete pages, which is really good for a first day and especially because there's literally only two lines of dialogue in those pages - dialogue makes the pages go faster - but this is all prose, mostly.  I enjoyed writing Thrill Ride in the first person, but it's also fun to be back in the third person for this one.

The huge decision I have a head of me is this: The book is in two parts, rather like the Kritzer books.  But I'm not sure I actually want to break them up into chapters, or I may want to do the small numbers rather than actual chapters or maybe even *** between time lapses.  We'll see.
