Well, you've read the notes, the notes were neither sorry nor Sari, and now it is time for you to post until the sorry cows come home - they're currently singing that great song MOO's Sorry Now.
-
And the word of the day is: PETRICHOR!
-
I remember reading that in the past, writers of shows that were adapted from other sources specifically would not give their show the same name as the original movie or book. That made it more about being their (the writers') show and not just a musicalization of a property. That also (it seemed to me) allowed the show writers to have more leeway to take things in different directions and not exactly copy the original source (even if that's what they did).
Just my 2¢.

Good morning to all
-
Marc Shaiman did post this I guess because of the backlash.
SOME LIKE IT HOT! I am so happy that Scott & I can finally talk about this! We are having a great time creating a brand new musical of "SOME LIKE IT HOT" with playwright Matthew Lopez and director/choreographer Casey Nicholaw, which is being produced by Craig Zadan & Neil Meron and The Shuberts. I can't share any info about how we all are approaching it, but if we do what we intend to, I believe it will earn it's right to exist as the second - an alternate, if you will - musical of this film to be written. No one else can ever be Jule Styne & Bob Merrill, so we are heading in different (and exciting!) directions. And I can't wait for you all to see our version of this classic story.
-
How much "different" can two musicals based on the SAME movie be? Where would the difference come in? Crazy.....
I HATE the NEW Broadway....I'm not saying these shows are bad...but all of the Disney cartoons that are onstage.....and the other movie shows.....Shrek, Little Mermaid, Lion King, Aladdin, Mean Girls, Sponge Bob Square Pants, The Hunchback of Notre Dame.... I hate that most of these shows are filtering down to community theatre now - and everyone wants to do them...ugh....
And looking at the theatre boards - which I don't do regularly - and talking to high school kids.....nothing before 1990 exists for them...except GREASE....and that's because of the movie version....whose songs are now in the stage show....
Oh well.....it is what it is....it's now, baby, and it's hot.
-
"If this room were on fire, you wouldn't be hot...."
THE SUNSHINE BOYS
-
The Vegas Golden Knights tied up the series last night 1 game to 1 game.....next game on Wednesday.
The director changed THE ENTIRE SCHEDULE around....so we are NOT doing run thrus this week, we are working on songs and scenes, which is a good thing.
At 6:30, Annie and I get to work with THE DOG!
-
Good morning, all!
-
Another bad night, a combo of leg, diabetes, neuroses, and the weather. I let the cats drag me out of bed for breakfast at 6:30 and went back to bed till 8:45.
-
Last night at 7:45, as I was settling in for Little Women, Part 1, at 8:00, I tried to put a score back onto a shelf and knocked everything off the shelf onto the floor along with a full glass of water from my nightstand. It took me 30 minutes to clean up most of the mess. I lost a couple of unread magazines and my copy of Chekhob's plays was too wet to keep. Most of the books were slightly damp and patted dry.
-
So, what are your thoughts on Little Women?
-
Good morning, all.
-
Slow start here, but it's what I wanted.
-
Feel better vibes for DR Elmore.

T.O.D.
I didn't see the announcement about the new musical version of SOME LIKE IT HOT, so I can't really comment on that.
I did see SUGAR when it played the Dorothy Chandler back in the (I believe) 1970s. My publicity client, Gale Gordon, played the Joe E. Brown role, and as I recall, Robert Morse did the Jack Lemmon part.
-
Agree re the odious Hollywood-Broadway syndrome.
But Hollywood is eating itself now, as well. Not that any of it has to affect me at all. I mean, I don't have to pay attention to it, or see anything I don't want to see, etc. But having these things, and so much else that could be so much better, implode all around me for no good reason at all, is just disheartening.

Annabelle and I did our patrol. All she wanted to do was lounge like Cleopatra on the steps, on the floor, on the windowsill. I knew giving her that Claudette Colbert DVD set would come back to haunt me.
So, once I realized she wasn't interested in exploring this morning I dragged her home after 15 minutes of artistic posing in public. Thatch was glad to have her home for a fame of tag.
-
You don't happen to have any agents living in the building, so you? -- any one of whom might just happen by at an opportune moment of posing?
-
More coffee!
Looks like a three-cup morning.
-
So, what are your thoughts on Little Women?
We watched the 1st part last night. It was ok. I hope part 2 is more enjoyable..
Did anyone else have trouble understanding what was being said? When Keith also has trouble I know it is the show and not just me. Since the caption for the hearing impaired was out or syn he set it for replay only. We had to go back a number of times.
-
I like Big Women.....
-
A coincidence: Jule Styne wrote the music (Leo Robin's lyrics) for an entirely different musical of MY SISTER EILEEN for the musical film which starred Betty Garrett and Janet Leigh. (It says on wikipedia for the film that there were lawyers keeping track that WONDERFUL TOWN was not being copied in any way.)

Just my 2¢.
The first musical i can recall that kept the same title as the film it was based on was SHENANDOAH.
By the time of WOMAN OF THE YEAR, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, and LA CAGE AUX FOLLES. it seemed that in general, musicals no longer bothered to find a different title.
(I wonder if "8-1/2" became NINE for reasons that might not be proper for a family site.)
-

No. We've had an opera singer, an ASCAP employee, a soap opera director, and Ricky Martin in the past 38 years
-
Good morning, all.
-
Off-site meeting this morning. Lots of healthy discussion. Nice.
-
There have been multiple musical versions of different stories before. How many versions of Twelfth Night are there? (Music Is, Your Own Thing Are but two.) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is another and the Shaiman version was an unnecessary flop.

As I recall, it wan't a very good show.

As I recall, one of the Condos brothers did the George Raft part.
I think Larry Kert did the Tony Curtis part.
No memory of who did the Marilyn Monroe role.

It may not have been, but I love the score, especially the songs that were on the first side of the album. Beauty That Drives a Man Mad, Two Penniless Bums and the melody for Sun on My Face are all excellent.

Good morning.
-
Yesterday I watched the movie, BAYWATCH. It might have been better as a musical.
-
I just realized it's 80 DEGREES out there, and we're on our way to 85 this afternoon. And it's muggy as all hell.
No wonder they're calling for severe thunderstorms later.
Tomorrow, of course, will top out at 63.
Of course.

Healthy discussion, a step in the right direction :)

;D We also watched it.
-
I'm up, I'm up - seven and a half hours of sleep.

I had a very good time seeing Sugar - so good I saw it twice at the Chandler. Robert Morse was great, Larry Kert was fun but a little too winky-winky, Steve Condos was a great tapper, Gale Gordon was funny, and Leland Palmer was very good but not really right as Sugar. Gower Champion's staging was really clever. Sugar has always been the problem with Sugar in the stage musical. Marilyn Monroe was one-of-a-kind and she's kind of brilliant in the movie. Hard to get that magic OR hold your own against two males who have all the laughs.
I'm sure Mr. Shaiman was asked or told to make that post. He reads all those boards and they needed to do some serious damage control and get the earned negativity off them.

Didn't Kritzerland come out with a CD of SUGAR?
If so, I think I have it somewhere.

I just assumed that it changed because "nine" is easier to rhyme than "eight-and-a-half."

For the London production (and cast recording), the song "Beauty That Drives a Man Mad" was revised (I don't know about any other songs). The song now actually has an ending and I think is a much better version.
-
I like Pitiful Penniless Bums especially as sung by MR BK & that other guy.
-
HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihgXWxIOSJk) is a live performance of (mostly) the original version of BTDaMM. Jump to 1:20 to start at the song proper.
THIS (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tGyTavnLQs) is the version on the London cast recording.

I just got back from the ultrasound with The Kids that shows that I will have a grandson in October.

Awww, you got to go with them and share in the happy event. Congratulations!

Yes, the first.
Rex is hanging on. I take him in every few days for subcutaneous fluids. He eats a little. He's very thin. He was very angry after yesterday's vet visit and blood draw. He is still angry.
-
We are in for a huge storm. It's really dark outside.
-
What a loony day. Working on the song, picked up a package, made some pasta with butter, cheese, mushrooms and onions - I have three cups of pasta, which is six ounces but I didn't like it - I ate barely half and threw the rest out, so pretty good, calorie-wise. Not sure why it was so gross but it was. Then I had to hunt down some music in the garage - it's infuriating the way the old helper packed up stuff - I really need someone to come and get things on the shelves so I can find them all in one place.
-
I never read any of his books, but I just found out that Tom Wolfe, Pyrotechnic ‘New Journalist’ and Novelist, Dies at 88 (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/15/obituaries/tom-wolfe-pyrotechnic-nonfiction-writer-and-novelist-dies-at-88.html). I work with several people who were fans of his.

I like it, very much, also.

I saw "Sugar" in Sacramento a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Jason Graae and "that other guy" were the stars and Elizabeth Stanley played Sugar. Alix Korey and Lenny Wolpe were terrific as Sweet Sue and Osgood.

I had a number of personal business things to take care of today, then stopped on the way home at the Carving Board for a sandwich. I'm not a big chip eater, but in honor of DR Jane I tried their made-on-premises potato chips. They were good, but next time I'll have my usual salad.
-
When I read the article about the new "Some Like it Hot" musical I kept wondering when it was going to mention "Sugar."
-
So, Jane, I'd have to say it's not worth a special trip just for the chips. ;)

Has anyone heard from DR Ron? Do you know how is mother is doing?

Unfortunately that is the case with most homemade chips. Did you ever eat the ones at the Santa Monica Pier?
-
Congrats to DR Laura and her expanding family.
Any names in mind yet?

Exciting news!

No. The ones at Falafel King in Westwood Village are quite tasty, but greasy.

Since he has not updated news on his facebook page I am guessing she is still in the very nice rehab center getting her strength back.

Good. I'm glad to hear she's out of the hospital and found a nice place with good care.

Is the Falafel King still there? I remembered it moved and we did not like the outside seating area as much. Yes, they had excellent chips, more like the ones at the pier than most places.
Knowing you like these chips, and the ones you had today were not as good, gives me a comparison of the two.

Yes, the Falafel King moved. It's now on Broxton (is that the name of the street?), not far from Stan's Donuts. And I KNOW that many HHW DRs know Stan's. It's a much smaller place. I haven't been there in several years. I used to stop there after the dentist, but I changed dentists and haven't been back.
-
No falafels near the new dentist, but there is the bakery. Actually, there are a number of restaurants on the next street over, but I haven't explored them. I often feel rather shell-shocked after leaving the dentist. I really should check them out one day. You sometimes find little gems in the most unlikely places.

I received a text from our DR ChasSmith. The tornados have ripped through Connecticut and they've had some damage to the house. Everyone is okay and they are on generator power. He has no idea when he'll have internet or access to the news.
The thunder here scared the hell out of Annabelle. Her eyes were big as saucers.
-
Major vibes for ChasSmith.

Great news, DR Laura.

I never read his two big books, The Right Stuff and The Electric kool Aid Acid Test, but I did read the rest. And I didn’t care for them. Loathed Bonfire of the Vanities, in fact. Man in Full, I Am Charlotte Simmons and the book set in Miami were all irritating by the ending.

A Ravel evening.
-
OH no, I am so sorry to hear about Chas. I hope the damage is minor and covered by insurance

Well, it's time for me to leave work and feed Margo's cats. Then, I'll go home. Excitin', ain't it?

Yes, Broxton closer to Stan's, not that is was far from Stan's to begin with. We certainly never had any problems walking to Stan's for dessert.

Four!

Page four? Really?
-
I'm supposed to summarize a few chapters of a Trollope novel I haven't read in years for a Facebook group. Haven't had time to start it. Haven't the energy to pick it up tonight. I have two or three more days. I hope I get energized somehow.

Back to THE HUSH by John Hart.
-
I'm home watching the second episode of Rise.
-
I think tonight's episode was the season finale.
-
I'd also read that the show has been cancelled, which means that tonight's episode is also the series finale.
-
Good evening.

Episode 2 is the season finale?

Congratulations to Laura and family!

Damge control to DR Chas.

Dreary day in Tacoma. Temperature was in the mid-sixties.
-
Tomorrow is old actors lunch.
-
We are going to the Cloverleaf Tavern, famous for it’s pizza.
-
It was Linda Evans favorite pizza when she lived here.
-
But it is one of those that you either love the pizza or you hate it.
-
Personally, I love it.
-
Half a pizza for lunch, and the other half for breakfast on Thursday.
-
If I don’t snack on it tomorrow night.
-
I think tonight's episode was the season finale.

Season 1 finale?
-
Oh darn, I have a breakfast date on Thursday.

Episode 2 is the season finale?
I didn't specify. Tonight, I watched episode #2 which was recorded on my DVR, but tonight's broadcast episode was episode #10.
-
Does anyone else here watch NCIS NEW ORLEANS?
-
There are 9 episodes lusted on IMDB but the dates are mixed up.
-
Good season finale.
-
But I knew what the cliffhanger was going to be.
-
I meant 10 episodes.

Actually Thursday is actually brunch rather than breakfast.

Actually Thursday is actually brunch rather than breakfast.
Do you have a toaster oven? I've frozen leftover pizza and reheated it my toaster oven with a little extra cheese, and it's always been quite delish. I only suggest the toaster oven because it probably uses less energy than my regular full-sized oven.
-
And reheating pizza in a toaster oven is a LOT better than reheating it in a microwave oven.
-
And on that note (D#), I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
