Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Gershwin and were magic, and now it is time for you to post until the magic cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: OPPORTUNE!

~~~Break Legs Vibes for BK and the Gershwin Kritzerland Cast!!~~~
Today is the final performance of, then strike for, Olympia Family Theater's production of Cinder Edna! It's been a lot of fun!
-
Before today's performance, however, I'm going to the combined "Long Hundred" Birthday party for my friends Rick and Scott! They are both turning 60 within a few weeks of each other (this adds up to 120, or the aforementioned "Long Hundred") and they've been together for about half of their lives (and legally married almost five years)! Their party starts at noon, so I can go for the first 45 minutes or so, then head out to Cinder Edna.
-
After the show will be the strike, which shouldn't be too difficult. I think the set is being left up for their summer theater camp, so us actors will just have to deal with costumes and props. :)
-
I have never eaten an enchilada . To the best of my knowledge I have never even seen one
It is 4:23 am
I should be sleeping
And now, I'm going to sleep.
Have a good day, all!
I have my usual morning duties. At 1100, I will meet my friend Ella Martin and her husband Tim for brunch at Nizza on 9th Avenue. When I return, I will begin the second edit of How To Succeed . . . Act One.
-
Vibes for MR BK & his cast as they perform the music of George Gershwin and his lovely wife Ira.
-
Good morning!
-
I know it's not like fresh, but Amy's frozen product line has a cheese enchilada dinner that's really good!
-
Closing day vibes for DR GEORGE.
We are having our Season Kick Off Open House during which some songs from ANNIE will be performed....but not in costume the director says....so we will be standing around in our T-shirts singing....
But first a program committee wherein we will choose a season that makes sense....then we will go to a board meeting where everyone else will say they don't like our shows....and then someone will say: "We did 'Beans for Breakfast' in the 3rd grade and everyone loved it." And then everyone will say "Oh I love 'Beans for Breakfast' let's do that!" And we will end up with 'Beans for Breakfast' on the schedule three times.....
-
Break leg vibes for BK and company!
-
Maybe I will take some ANNIE photos today....if I get time.
-
...backstage....
-
What is that I hear about DR FJL staying in a brothel while he is out west....I think I read it right HERE on HHW.
-
BK: Your senior "senile" moment is not unique.
Welcome to the club.
-
I just cancelled our morning newspaper.
I'm fed up with having:
1. No papers
2. Late papers
3. Papers left at the bottom of our steep driveway.
4. Incomplete papers.
5. Having to call the circulation department 1-2 per week to complain.
I've had a morning paper delivered to my house my entire life. Let's see how long I can survive without one.
>:( :(
-
Thanks DR TCB. The diagram on the website doesn't show the risers but I did see empty spots on the first row. If you request wheelchair or handicap seating I gather they would automatically give that to you.
-
I understood the risers better than I understood what I accidentally did to get the double quote:D
I will try to intentionally do it later when I am at my computer.
Sadly, I hear that from far too many people these days. My first paying job was as a newspaper boy. I remember delivering papers after a 17-inch snowfall that crippled the city and caused mail delivery to be canceled. Somehow the papers got out to me and I got the papers out.
I know it's not Wednesday, but I've a question for BK.
On the Bagley albums, will you be fixing some of the vocal performances? Two examples, both from Cole Porter Revisiteds:
1. Karen Morrow's voice seems to crack on a word somewhere in Vol. 2, I think it's on "I Now It's Not Meant for Me."
2. Bobby Short misses his cue for the last word on "Red, Hot and Blue" and seems to whisper it as a question at the last second. Vol. 1
In ways, they're part of the charm of the series and a sign of how much Bagley did on a budget.
Yup. Times have changed.
We cancelled our local paper in Ashland, not because we didn't get the paper but that they kept delivering it when we put a hold on it while we traveled. We actually had to remove our rural paper box because they then continued to deliver the paper to get their money for the ads.
Fun photo DR John :)
I just visited Second Story Repertory's website regarding THE LAST STARFIGHTER. Looking at the cast list, they are apparently doing the show without a Centauri. Also, you really have to hunt to find the name of the director of the production.
-
The cast does include Eric Hartley, who is one of the busiest Seattle actors.
This should have been, at least, three posts!
It is supposed to be raining here today, but there is no sign of it yet.
Last show vibes to DR George. I am sorry that I missed your show.
John G., I love the photo.
Nicky wanted breakfast at 6:00 a.m. He woke me up three times. By the third time I realized I was already awake, so I got up and fed him. I kept thinking I would go back to bed, but so far, I haven't done it.
I am very confused regarding the day of the week. I had to go to my online calendar to convince myself that today was Sunday.
The brunch was quite wonderful; Ella went off to a rehearsal and Tim went off to Frozen, where he keeps an eye on the show.
Hello, my friend!
-
Also, you really have to hunt to find the name of the director of the production.
I'm sure Kate Swenson's name as director been on the main Mainstage page, which lists the whole 2017-18 season's shows, for a long time. She was definitely on the audition announcement in February.
It was a lovely Scranton wedding. It was outdoors, and the weather last night was a little muggy, but people took off jackets and ties and many seemed to be pleased at the excuse to do that once the ceremony ended and the reception and dinner started. The evening never cooled down, and I noticed that a few of the men were even in shorts before dinner was served, so I'm assuming (?) they had gone to their cars and changed. (In case that old Joan Rivers joke about her husband being underdressed for dinner comes to mind, they all did keep their shirts on.)
-
It was a buffet, so maybe "Dinner was served" is technically wrong. I only noticed some of the clothing shifts because my cousins (my cousin the groom Karl and my brand new cousin his bride Maria) were very nice about seating me at a table close to the food. :)
-
George, i sent you a photo of the cake. Is there any chance you could post it.
-
I'm up, I'm up - about nine hours of needed sleep, but I must do the jog very soon.
-
Re the Bagley fixes - we're not remixing anything, just remastering and making the overall sound more pleasing, sometimes in a major way.
-
TCB, from what I've seen, they tend to post bios from the next production as the previous production ends. (PROOF ends this weekend.) At least six (more?) bios seem to be missing; I'd thought the web person was being considerate to the "on time" people, in not hold up posting the bios of the people who got them in on the original schedule until all the bios are in.
-
The Joan Rivers joke was something like: My husband came to dinner in a T-shirt. I said “No! No, no, no! At least go put on some underpants. If not for my sake, then for your mother's. Or we'll never be allowed in this restaurant again."
-
I think the actual classic joke had Joan Rivers saying "shorts" but I thought "underpants" might be a good substitution for telling it on HHW. :)
Sunday afternoon greetings! Fr. Richard preached and celebrated this morning for a very small congregation that meets in the home of the deacon and his wife. She is an organist/pianist and played both for us this morning. After the service we were taken to lunch at Old Hickory, one of the famous Owensboro barbecue joints. I think I went there with my uncle to pick up a carry out order in 1974.
You know, of all the things people have been posting over the last twenty-four hours...
The one thing that stands out the most disturbingly...?
Well, I’ll tell you.
It’s vixmom and the enchiladas. Or lack of same. It’s like a major disruption in the Force or something.
YES. No question.
I was trying to remember what my first Mexican food was. No idea, really. But it almost certainly had to be on the order of Taco Bell and the like. And when I was finally taken to a “real” Mexican restaurant? Bliss.
-
Anyhoo... It seems there’s been a lot of talk about Porgy and Bess lately, in Facebook groups and whatnot, which kind of puts me in the spirit of today’s topic. I do believe a good dose of Gershwin is in order.
-
...said good dose of which will happen tomorrow, as I am completely wiped out for the rest of today. But a good one it shall be, trust me on that.
DR Elmore, there’s also El Centro at 54th and 9th. We ate with you there after that rehearsal at the Plaza Hotel several years ago.
-
I have come to the conclusion that I do not care for mole sauce on my enchiladas. I prefer Salsa verde but the standard ranchera will do.
I always order whole beans instead of refried, unless it is black friend beans. There was a restaurant in Ashland, that sadly closed, and the owner prepared them for me for a special treat. I was pleasantly surprised.
DR FJK I am pleased the wedding was lovely. What is that cake?
Delicious Chocolate Something or Other. It was so good that everyone seemed to have forgotten that a part had to be saved for the first anniversary. Since our table was close to the food, it was clear no one thought about that. Before it got completely devoured, I found Maria and told her it was going fast, and she got right on saving two pieces to freeze for next year.
-
It was helpful fro f\uture reference to note at some point that Maria's twin sister is 2 inches taller than Maria. They look so alike. Last night, of course, Maria was the one in the bridal dress, but in general, they are hard to tell apart.
I think mine was either Taco Bell or Chi-Chi's, which wasn't any more Mexican than Taco Bell. Then, in Florida, even the Mexican food was more Cuban than anything. I don't think I had really good Mexican until I moved here. That was almost 20 years ago. I think that has changed somewhat. Still, San Antonio's version is light years better than Austin and elsewhere.
The worst I've had was in Ireland.
We had the best Indian food in Dublin.
I just found out my friend was outside when the ash was falling. She doesn't feel great but nothing bad. She was unable, so far, to clean up the mess in her little courtyard and said it is difficult to take her dogs out there. Hopefully it will be easier to clean once it dries. Someone told her it would turn to cement. I sure hope not.
Watching some weird experimental films from Hollis Frampton. No relation to Peter. Or to sanity. The one I'm watching now is a silent, 7-minute film called Lemon. It's of a lemon. The lighting changes over time. So, it goes from dark to light and back again. It's still 7 minutes of a lemon.
Apparently this was big on the museum circuit. Right.
I think I've had enough of it for tonight.
Oh, good. I cleaned up that Morgan Freeman reference earlier so that posterity reading HHW for a look at cultural highlights of the 2010's won't be upset by it.
-
Good night, all.
-
I am looking forward to TCB's reaction to that dance photo, though.
-
I have never eaten an enchilada . To the best of my knowledge I have never even seen one
You're missing out! Get thee to a Mexican restaurant!
I am afraid my tastes run more to Taco Bell than authentic
Perhaps when we see Desperate Measures in July, we should have a Mexican dinner after?
YES. No question.
I was trying to remember what my first Mexican food was. No idea, really. But it almost certainly had to be on the order of Taco Bell and the like. And when I was finally taken to a “real” Mexican restaurant? Bliss.
I'm sure that my first Mexican food was Taco Bell. I've gone to and have enjoyed more authentic Mexican food, but I'm not a purist...I still like Taco Bell.
;)
You know, of all the things people have been posting over the last twenty-four hours...
The one thing that stands out the most disturbingly...?
Well, I’ll tell you.
It’s vixmom and the enchiladas. Or lack of same. It’s like a major disruption in the Force or something.
I'm remembering the misheard Rupert Holmes lyric "If you like bean enchiladas and getting caught in the rain."
:))
Congrats George on a successful Cinder Edna run!
Thanks, Fred! We ended with a sold out house and a great performance. ;D
-
Nathan Lane said in accepting his Drama desk award for playing Roy Cohn:
"Roy Cohn is rotting in hell and posting anonymously on All That Chat."
That's funny!!
-
Interesting to hear that Woody Harrelson and Mike Pence were classmates when Woody was in school on a presbyterian scholarship!
??? Small world.
I just found out my friend was outside when the ash was falling. She doesn't feel great but nothing bad. She was unable, so far, to clean up the mess in her little courtyard and said it is difficult to take her dogs out there. Hopefully it will be easier to clean once it dries. Someone told her it would turn to cement. I sure hope not.
Yikes!
-
Is there a way to change my login email for my HHW account?
Click on PROFILE, then hover your cursor over MODIFY PROFILE, then click on Account Settings.
-
You can't change your actual Username, but you can change what is displayed...which is weird. :-\
-
Well, since we're so close...
6!!!
I just realized that a Cinder Edna cast photo was posted on FB. Here it is (not linked from FB, though):
I almost missed you with the crown covering half your face ;)
How's this, Jane? It was taken in the lobby after today's show:
-
The brunch was quite wonderful; Ella went off to a rehearsal and Tim went off to Frozen, where he keeps an eye on the show.
You know if Tim needs someone to hold his briefcase one day, I am sure I could make myself available... ;) :D
-
The Joan Rivers joke was something like: My husband came to dinner in a T-shirt. I said “No! No, no, no! At least go put on some underpants. If not for my sake, then for your mother's. Or we'll never be allowed in this restaurant again."
;D :o
-
George, i sent you a photo of the cake. Is there any chance you could post it.
Here it is!
Very nice cake
Well apparently my dinner selection for that evening has been made. I am sure photographic evidence will be required
Mine was probably Jack in the Box tacos....those frozen monstrosities that they would deep fry and give to you dripping oil
-
Oh how I loved them
I've got the place!
I'll be having the enchiladas Rojas por favor
-
Oh how I loved them
I still do!
-
I have come to the conclusion that I do not care for mole sauce on my enchiladas.
Well that's hardly surprising seeing as you're a vegetarian .
-
However even as a card carrying carnivore I have never been tempted to eat a mole
-
Trying to clean out the freezer. I had duck breast, peas with mint and butter, and mushrooms for dinner.
Dang! When I have leftovers from the freezer I have hotdogs, some old broccoli and a freezer burned carrot or two
That reminds me of someone I once knew who insisted the lyric was
Yes I like pina coladas and taking walks in the rain, I am not into yoga , I am into cocaine
Back from an absolutely great show.
Yup. She is able to take them out for quick potty breaks but of course they are taking ash and mud back inside.
I need to think about packing.
When are you leaving?
I suggest trying 2 different fillings in the enchiladas since you don't know which you prefer.
I have seen, and eaten it, served over cheese enchiladas. Often it is too spicy for me.
Now I get the joke 😀
-
It is traditionally served over meat ;)
Bruce I forgot to thank you for the laugh over your funny senile moment.
I love Jack In The Box tacos!
Hi, George.
-
Can we take page 6 and 7 and use them to start tomorrow’s posts?
-
I watched JURASSIC WORLD on NBC tonight. I hated all the commercials, but at least, I didn’t have to see the people being eaten.
-
When I was growing up, we didn’t have Taco Bell in Washington. I think my first Mexican(?) food was Taco Time. It is still a step up from Taco Bell, but for fast food it is not cheap.
-
Whoops! I forgot to clean Nick’s litter box.
Tom, do you go to Costco? I've gotten Taco Time gift cards for myself at Costco (and for Meconi's Subs, and Mercato's). You can get $50 in gift cards for only $40! That's a 20% savings, and over time, that savings adds up! AND the gift cards never expire!
I may have to join Costco again. I let my membership lapse when I was just using a wheelchair. I would get worn out just going thru the parking lot. Now that I have the scooter is isn’t quite so daunting.
The gift cards are definitely worth it. :)
The gift cards, toilet paper, paper towels, and gas!
-
Fred, have you been looking at motels in Bellevue? That would be a lot better than staying by the airport. Trivago had a (I think it was) Ramada Inn for $120.00 a night, and it was five miles from Redmond.
-
Maybe it was the Red Lion?
-
Good night, George.
