Well, you've read the notes, the notes were Independent, and now it is time for you to post until the Independent cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FIZGIG!
-
First after Bk
-
It is the 4th ofJly and I can sleep in!!!
-
So of course I have been up since 4:48
-
I finally gave up trying to sleep
-
Yesterday was crazy busy
-
I had to leave by 6 to get to a dr's appointment
-
I needed to renew my thyroid meds and I was told I had to be seen before it could be done
-
I left with my renewal but also instructions to get a pneumonia vaccine, a shingles vaccine and the dreaded procedure I've been avoiding for 5 years
-
We have no plans for today but I have lots of chores that need doing
-
Good morning!
-
Happy Independence Day!
-
It is the 4th ofJly and I can sleep in!!!
Enjoy sleeping in.
-
So of course I have been up since 4:48
I just noticed the time stamp. At this point I am hoping for a short nap.
-

I understand the dreaded procedure which I am now 8 months overdo. As for the pneumonia and shingles I thought you were too young.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I do not do more than one vaccination at a time even though it supposedly is ok. I have known too many people who have reactions that way.
-
Never ever would I do 2 shots in one arm.
-
I have seen some extremes swollen arms.
-
When I was a kid, America was basking in post-World War 2 glory, and the Fourth was a great day: a parade, a huge family picnic, and then fireworks at Barnitz Field. Thanks to the current Trump administration, I'm rather embarrassed to be an American citizen and I find no glory in this day, That's very sad.
-
Good morning, all!
Good morning.
-
I need to make a market trip this morning.
-
If we were in Ashland we possibly would go to the parade and then the craft show. Here we will start walking and decide if we want to go to Ft Vancouver, chech out the park downtown, or just walk along the river.
-
Good morning to all
-
Everyone have a great day
-
Good morning, all.
-
Got to sleep in a little bit.
I mean, if you call 7:30 sleeping in.
-
I can almost remember the days when I would have called noon sleeping in.
In more distant days, two o’clock, even.
-
Ah, but we were young then.
-
So, we’re looking at only 85 or 86 degrees today? But the heat index is still going to be high nineties? Thanks for the help.
-
They say the break comes on Friday. Damn them.
-

If I make it to 8:00 that is late.

So, backyard fireworks this evening (real ones, not as big as public displays, but it's the real thing), and Danbury Mall fireworks (actually on the adjacent airport) fFriday evening.
Something I still notice these days is the fact that towns and other organizations will have their fireworks on any day that's convenient, when "back in my day", it was on the 4th and nothing but the 4th, regardless of which day of the week it was, or any other factor. In my experience, the relaxations of that tradition have occurred over the last 25 years. Of course it could also be regional, since I've been here some 29 years.
We had the official town fireworks on the lake last Saturday night, June 30th (and since I was coming home from somewhere I could see several different displays going on that evening), lots of groups are of course having them today, and the "other" town fireworks put on by the Mall are Friday the 6th. I guess it's nice that the big ones cooperate that way, which means more for all of us.
Maybe this is just me. And maybe it can be a TOD. Is this different where you live? Have you seen a change over the years?
-
I just remembered my favorite ever fireworks. It was the year I lived in Schaumburg (Chicago 'burbs), and friends and I attended one of the fireworks displays at a town park. I think the park was in neighboring Arlington Heights. I had just lived 14 years in L.A. and had done any number of great fun things on the Fourths there, from viewing them from boats moored offshore to renting a plane and flying over all of them. But now I was in the Midwest and I thought this gathering of people, and the locale, went together to form the most magical thing ever. It almost had that innocent and joyful Music Man quality -- which is stretching it, but I think it illustrates what I mean.
-
And, oh yes, those were held precisely on the 4th. Or the Fourth, with a capital F. :)
-
Well, that's my nostalgia for the day. Like DR Elmore, I don't feel in the least celebratory of anything today.
-
My town always has its fireworks on July 4 --- if they are high enough, I can see them over the trees.....
-
thanks to all for the vibes....they are much appreciated.
My sisters and I did the thank you notes yesterday....
I am very fortunate to have someplace I MUST be every night (except tonight) for the next couple of weeks. I am already making plans to move some rooms around - the sewing room will become by new computer room and I will move into the master bedroom....all over the next few months....
So then we shall move on....
-
Vibes for all on this Fourth of July....have a lot of safe fun....and be happy!
-
Correction: That would be Rolling Meadows, IL, not Arlington Heights.
DR Jrand67, I can well imagine both you and DR Ginny getting that kind of fireworks ambiance in the towns where the two of you live.
-
Good morning.
-
I was up at 6:00 a.m., per Nick's request.
-
I was just going to feed him, and then go back to sleep.
-
Instead, I made myself a cup of Joe, and then turned on the computer.
-
I believe it is going to be a warm one, by Northwest standards.
-
I just had a nice July 4 surprise. Since Monday I've sent fourteen agent submissions for the Annabelle & Thatch stories. Most of the responses were "thank you; if interested we'll get back to you in 8-10 weeks." This morning, an agency asked to see them.
-
Last night they said the temperature would get into the high 80's, but an increasing cloud cover this afternoon and evening may make for an unusually humid evening.
-
We shall see.
-
The Weather Channel says that it is currently 61 degrees with humidity at 80%.
-
I do not believe that is correct.

Wow! That is fantastic.
-
During my working years, I always wished that they would do the fireworks on July 3, when most people did not have to be at work the next morning.
-
Now, I really don't care.
-

I have been told that moving things around and making changes helps. I am glad you also have someplace to be every night.
-
Congrats DR elmore.
-
Good morning, all. Happy Fourth of July!
-
Congratulations, Elmore!
-
From BK’s notes:
My goodness, was there ever a better marriage of singer and songwriters than Dionne and Burt and Hal?
I would posit Liza and Kander and Ebb. And Ethel and your choice of Porter or Berlin. All three different. All three great.
-
I am back from our closest Big Supermarket and very unhappy. I was pushing my cart around, thinking, Wow! They've really cleaned out for the Fourth. Nope. The store is closing on Saturday. Now there is no supermarket on Broadway between 96th and 74th Street. That's ridiculous.

Independence Day greetings! We're taking sort of a day off today. Took the bus to Sarabeth's Kitchen for a lovely brunch and are back in time for Richard to attend the noon services at St. Mary's while I ice my very sore knee. We have a 5:30 reservation for supper at 54 Below, followed by a 7pm performance there of 1776.

Yes, DR ChasSmith, apparently there was a great fireworks display in Smith Park last night and today there's a parade from Woodside Cemetery to Smith Park. We're not there...
-
DR Elmore, sorry to hear about your supermarket, but glad to hear about the interest in the stories.

It is, and may that or other responses lead to something wonderful. These episodes strike me as a perfect form of fantastical animal storytelling, and it seems to have come very naturally to you.

This is incredible.
Do you suspect the usual rent increase as the reason, or some other culprit?

I would hate for the market near us to close.

The rent is my suspicion. when the Barnes & Noble opened at 82nd and Broadway, a lot of small businesses folded because the landlords hiked the rents.
-
Started watching Wait for Your Laugh, a documentary about Rose Marie. Wonderful career and great anecdotes from meeting "Uncle Al" Capone to life on the road.
-
There's also a great clip of Durante singing one of his songs that was included in "The New Yorkers."
-
They lied. Again. They're such liars.
I do believe today's temperature is indeed equaling that of the last couple of days, and I think tomorrow's will as well.
Lying liars.
-
I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep.
-
Yes DR JANE....that is what I heard as well...and so I am putting it to the test....one step at a time.
-
Continued vibes for MR BK on SHERMAN'S MARCH TO THE C....or The Event as the case may be....
-
DR ELMORE - great news in one post....not so great news in the other....
91 degrees here....July!!!
-
I'm up...finally.
-
Last night, I took my niece to the local(ish) drive-in and saw Adrift (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6306064/reference) and Ocean's Eight (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5164214/reference). I got home after 2:00 a.m., and after feeding my cat, I went straight to bed.
-
Both movies were pretty good...very different from each other, but I didn't care for Ocean's Eight as much as I though I would. Oh, well. My niece enjoyed them.
-
Have a Happy (and safe!) 4th of July, everyone!

That's great, Larry! Congrats and good luck!

That's terrible. :( How much farther is the next closest supermarket?

There's Broadway Farms, a smaller grocery with good produce, but not close to the scale of the Gristedes that's closing only three blocks away, but they don't have the good prices of the Gristedes chain. There's a nice Gristedes at Columbus Avenue and Columbus but that's a schlep for me as a walker.

We have been having a lazy day
-
Breakfast at IHOP
-
A nap in the recliner
-
A float in the pool
-
Nice hot shower
-
And I have just called for call ahead seating at the Texas Roadhouse
-
((()Hugs ))) for Jack
-
Knee vibes for Ginny
-
Have fun at 54 Below. Enjoy your dinner.
I saw that they were doing the songs from 1776 today and would have liked to go,but Vixdad had no wish to schelp to the city in his day off
-
I am thrilled about the news of an interested agent, Elmore!
-
I am very sorry about your market though
-
Took a chance and went to In 'n' Out - wasn't too too terrible, so I got a couple of cheeseburgers and fries, brought 'em home, and ate 'em all up - perfect meal.
-
Otherwise I've been relaxing and listening to music and doing NO work whatsoever.
-
Today's cover of the NY Daily News:
-
Thanks DR VIXMOM.....don't you mean IHOB?
-
Trip to the bank and the insurance office tomorrow....closing in on getting things done....others are not so pressing and can be done as the bill comes in this month.
-
Yes DR JANE....that is what I heard as well...and so I am putting it to the test....one step at a time.
All you can do is one step at a time. In my opinion the greater the pain at the loss the luckier you were when you had the person in your life. It is a double edge sword.
-
Both movies were pretty good...very different from each other, but I didn't care for Ocean's Eight as much as I though I would. Oh, well. My niece enjoyed them.
I was hoping Ocean's Eight would be more entertaining even if the reviews aren't great.
-
We have been having a lazy day
Same here, if you call walking almost 8 miles a lazy day.
-
We stopped on the way home at Savona's. Keith had iced tea and I had a chocolate ice cream cone.
-
Once home I suggested we sit on the patio and have a glass of wine. To my shock Keith agreed.
-
Knee vibes for Ginny
Ditto!
-

Are you handling everything?
-
Watching Dishonored but thinking about a treat of a sweet and what that might be exactly.
-
I was unable to connect for awhile.
-
July 4th.
-
This morning I put out two loads of laundry to do in the afternoon. Having a glass of delicious Pinot Grigio was far more enjoyable.
-
Thanks DR VIXMOM.....don't you mean IHOB?
Silly me, of course!
I had the blueberry pancakes but substituted strawberries for the topping and had a dab of whipped cream for a patriotic red, white and blue breakfast
-
Vixdad had Benedict Arnold Eggs
-
We are just back from a lovely meal at the Texas Roadhouse
-
they are celebrating their 5 year anniversary as well as the 4th of July. If you wore something thematic they gave you a free cactus blossom (think outback's blooming onion)
-
Vixdad wore his tricorn hat and I wore blue jeans, a white shirt and a stars and stripes baseball cap
-
When we visted in June we were given sealed envelopes to bring back during the anniversary celebration. When they opened ours we received 2 coupons each good for a free entree and one for a free appetizer
-
It has been relatively quiet in the neighborhood today , normally on the 4th it sounds like you are in the middle of a firefight but today there was just the occasional boom
-
It is dusk now so the skies will soon be filled with illegal fireworks
-
Perhaps well go for a walk down the block and watch them
-
We can see them from our front stoop but there are trees that partially block all but the highest soaring ones
-

Did your meal cost you anything?

Yes the coupons were for future visits and you can only use one at a time

We had a great time! It was our first visit to 54 Below, but won't be our last. We even got a complimentary appetizer because they had to move us after we were seated. We ended up at the base of the stage left steps and got to chat quite a bit with the drummer.
-
Knee vibes for Ginny
Ditto!
Thank you both - today has been very therapeutic.
-
We are in for the evening, ready to watch the fireworks on TV that we'll probably be able to hear outside our windows.
-
Went to K's Donuts for my treat of a sweet - they are open 365 days a year. Unfortunately the morons pretty much bought out the store so they could have their donuts at the barbecue and at the park - very annoying. I had to get stuff I normally wouldn't because they only had a handful of stuff left.
-
Finished Dishonored and will now watch Shanghai Express.
-

Congrats, Vixmom!

It is dusk now so the skies will soon be filled with illegal fireworks
Lasy year (or maybe the year before), the city of Tumwater outlawed most fireworks. There was a special election a couple of months ago trying to repeal the ban, but that was voted down, so the ban stands. So far, it's been very quiet today. :)
-
I am also watching the fireworks on TV....they start any time...then I will go outside and watch the fireworks in the park.....like DR JANE, I can see the HIGHEST ones over the trees, but that's enough for me...
And yes you are right DR JANE.....I was very lucky to have my mom for all of my nearly 68 years....and pretty much to myself every day for the last few years!
My sister is being a big help....all of my sisters...and my oldest brother as well.
-
The Ones That Were Left - A Saga of the Donuts by MR BK.....
-
It started raining here in Tumwater. I wonder if it'll last or if it'll affect the fireworks that my mom is going to see at the Red Wind Casino (https://redwindcasino.com/promotions/4th-of-july-celebration/).
-
Yes the coupons were for future visits and you can only use one at a time
You go often enough you won't mind saving them :)

The loud popping noises have begun here. On our way back from a lovely, very comfortable weather wise, walk I picked up an empty box of firecrackers that was tossed at the property line.

Here is Magnificat Cat Rescue's 9:00 report on little Mego:
Oh dear God, what a roller coaster of a day.
First things first:
Mego is alive. Mego is still fighting. Mego is going to get all the help he needs.
This afternoon, after his blood pressure rose and then fell again, the critical care veterinarian called and had a long, sober conversation with us. Mego's blood pressure, the main concern all along, rose to a very promising 95 after the vasopressin was administered, until to fall again within an hour to 70. They simply could not sustain his blood pressure, even on three vasopressors. By 4 p.m. today, in less than 48 hours, Mego's vet bill, with emergency surgery and ICU charges, was up to $7,519.87. Even if we did proceed with a plasma transfusion and a nasal tube to provide nutrition, his prognosis was poor ... and the vet bill would now ascend to over $11,000 in the next two days.
We asked for a couple of hours to think about it.
We agonized. We finally decided that even if Mego was not going to make it, he deserved one last chance. And we called the vet to let her know we wanted to proceed with the plasma transfusion, which is a four-hour-long procedure. Even before we finished saying that, the vet interrupted us. " I have some surprising news," she began. In the last two hours, Mego's blood pressure had started to inch upward and was now 78 systolic. Even more incredibly, the cat who had been laterally recumbent and had been getting flipped to a different side every hour by the ICU nurses had somehow managed to get on his feet.
That did it. "We are all in," we told the vet.
This picture was taken 20 minutes ago. Mego is now responsive and alert. We do not know what will happen in the next 24 hours, because he remains critical. But he has very clearly told us he wants to live. Mego, baby, if you keep fighting, we'll fight with you.
People, the huge bill we were anticipating is now astronomical. We have set up a fundraiser with a copy of the estimate, because we want full transparency here. We have already raised about $2,600, thank to your generous donations. Please share this post and the fundraiser and ask your friends to share, too.
Mego needs your help.

Wow Mego. May you survive and have a healthy long life.
-
Back from a wonderful dinner of barbecued lamb and pork ribs.
-
The rain storms here were scary. So much rain fell and so quickly I had to change clothes after every trip to the car to take out stuff. Or to pick up one of the cucumber plants, which got knocked over.
-
Watching the extras on Wait for Your Laugh. Didn't make the Bye, Bye Birdie connection to Rose Marie until now. Dick Van Dyke played the role originally. Peter Marshall played it, too. Both with big roles in Rose Marie's life.
-
Wow Mego. May you survive and have a healthy long life.
~~~Super Ditto!!~~~
Tritto! What a nice kitty.
-
My backdoor cat isn't in the neighborhood anymore. He was there for about 10 years. I miss him.
-
I think J.B. does, too.
-
Good evening.
-
Fireworks in Arizona is the stupidest thing ever. It is SO dry here. I don't think we've really had measurable rain since February or March. Home fireworks were illegal here for decades. Then one year they legalized them. Very stupid.
-
Finished with my viewing - two motion pictures - and back to listening to music. Had to finally turn on the air conditioning - it was 78 in the house and I could barely breathe.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
The fireworks are just starting here now.
-
I keep jumping.
-
Joke of the Day:
What sort of martial arts do cow do?
Moo-jitsu.
I think that's quite appropriate for HHW.
-
Today I saw SIX people riding Bird scooters. I rarely see anyone. Perhaps they suddenly became popular.
-
Continued coping vibes to Jrand and family.
Jack, I think you're quite right to keep busy. I'm glad you have siblings who are helping out.
-
Very glad to hear the news about the interested agent, Larry. I hope this proceeds.
-
Very good news about Mego.
-
Vibes to all.
Good night.
Well, it's time for the...
-
Gratuitous Post #160!
-
;)
-
I can hear fireworks but I walked outside and there are none to be seen.
-
Good evening.
Cute quote today.
-
Evidently, there is a LOUD fireworks display going on pretty close to where I live. I would guess down in Tumwater Valley, which is too far for me to see from my place (even on the third floor), but not too far to hear it. :P
-
The noise must be driving my niece crazy! My cat's not reacting to the noise much at all. I guess that that's a good thing.
-
From our place we watched some of the fireworks across the river in various parts of Portland.
Hopefully, they don't learn the error of their ways the hard way. :-\
-
The fireworks noise has stopped.
-
Listening to Lalo Schifrin: A Life in Music four-CD box set - wonderful stuff. Lalo lives next door to Richard Sherman.
-
Good evening.
-
Greetings from downtown Beirut!
-
Actually, that’s not true. I imagine it is quieter in Beirut tonight than here in Tacoma.
-
The fireworks started slowly around 8:00 p.m.
-
By 9:00 p.m. they were in full force.
-
The fireworks noise has stopped.
It is still going on in Portland,
-
At exactly 11:00, the north end grew really quiet.
-
I imagine the stillness had more to do with an appearance by Tacoma cops, rather than the kindness by any of these neighborhood goons.
-
Nicky hasn’t been too concerned by the noise.
Literally, at the exact moment that I read this post, a police siren sounded! Spooooky!! :o
Hi, Tom.
I'm now balancing my checkbook.
Page seven - that hasn't happened for a while!
Maybe I need to balance my checkbook more often.
