Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke trippingly on the tongue, and now it is time for you to post until the trippy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: LODESTAR!
-
First after BK
-
2 more days at work and then we're off to Canada for a few days
-
Have a safe trip. Wishing the family comfort.
-
Good morning, all!
-
The cats let me sleep until 7:00! They are fed, and I need coffee.
-
I am working at home today. I won't finish Act One of How To Succeed . . . today but I'm aup to "Paris Original," leaving me the incidentals, "Rosemary," and Act One Finale.

T.O.D.
Love HAMLET, particularly the Olivier version.
When I was a freshman in the Drama Department at the UW in Seattle, I played "Osric" in a one-hour TV production of the play.
Marian Hailey, who later did films (LOVERS AND OTHER STRANGERS, etc.) and Broadway (the HARVEY revival w/Jimmy Stewart and Helen Hayes), was "Ophelia," and the play was adapted/directed by Rod Whitiker, who later wrote THE EIGER SANCTION for Clint Eastwood. "Claudius" was played by David Seidler, who won an Oscar a few years ago for writing THE KING'S SPEECH.
John Gilbert played "Hamlet". He went on to become a member of the Seattle Rep.
Sadly, no tapes of that production of HAMLET still exist.
Also, during my Freshman year, I played "Grumio" in a stage production of THE TAMING OF THE SHREW.

Good morning, all.

We've got a couple of good days for doing things at home. Actual temperatures will be around 93 today and tomorrow, with the heat index well above that.

What I ran down to the city for on more or less the spur of the moment yesterday morning:
I decided to see '2001' in 70mm IMAX at the AMC Lincoln Square. I'd seen it many times over beginning with its first release on Cinerama screens, but I'd been away from it for many years. I'm not even sure I ever did more than watch a few scenes of it since the advent of DVDs, let alone Blu-ray. So, come what may, and I knew there would be both pros and cons, I wanted to take advantage of seeing it projected on what I believe is the largest screen in the country (80 feet high, 100 feet across).
Actually, I just remembered that the last time I went to it was in the 1980s during one of its many revivals at the Cinerama Dome. I totally missed going out to it during its year-2001 revival. It was fun reconnecting with it, and watching it with -- well, after 30 years, practically a different set of eyes.

We are sitting in our cabin, while I elevate my arm to reduce swelling, enjoying the view as the ship navigates through a field of icebergs..

I forgot to mention it is snowing.

I'd wanted to respond to yesterday's TOD about Porgy and Bess, so here it is:
Being taken to see the film in 1959 or 1960 is what blew me away and opened my ears (and eyes) to the world of Gershwin. A few years later I became enamored of the 3-LP "complete" (not) Lehman Engel recording on Columbia. I then branched out to the "original cast" one on Decca, and finally got the movie soundtrack. I liked different aspects of all of these, but it was in discovering the RCA recording with Price and Warfield that I became obsessed. Finally, here were some truly great voices with truly competent conducting -- not that Previn was any slouch on the film in that regard, but here was Skitch Henderson of all people knocking it out of the park. My obsession resulting from that eye-opening 1960s recording remains alive and well to this day.
That was it for quite a while. I still have my beautiful first issue of the Mel Torme version, but I never really connected with it (I always think I should give it a new chance). I enjoyed the Lena Horne and Belafonte recording. I love the Gershwin-played and conducted excerpts. In the 1970s the Cleveland Orchestra released the first truly complete recording. It was musically stiff and bland, but I couldn't get enough of hearing all of that heretofore missing music. Then along came the Houston Grand Opera version which I think is still really wonderful.
I was never on the right coast at the right time to see the Met's production. (I might still have my rough off-the-air recording from around 1984 when KFAC in L.A. was transmitting the Saturday broadcasts. Ironically, that highly anticipated one suffered long dropouts -- which I called the station about as they were happening, and they were as distressed as the listeners were. You could do that in those days, dial a station and have your call picked up by the person at the controls and get immediate information.)
I had no interest in the recent notorious re-conceived Broadway version.

We did a u-turn back out of the icebergs giving us, once again, a change in our itinery and a day at sea.

Stay away from them icebergs DR JANE!

Act One run thru went well.....we do it again to night. The crew seems to have the idea of what they need to do so we shall see....
I have an appt. today with my oncologist to go over the results of my scan which seem to be okay if I am reading them right on line....but I ain't no doctor.
Only thing that seems amiss is a low white blood cell count....we shall see.

Our problem with overflowing turned out to be a blockage in the plumbing -- so it was a plumber who fixed the problem.

You might want to give Richard a copy of the book about Doorkins?

My husband had a dream the other night: a sky-writing plane was writing out pro-Trump messages. I opened the window, attached all my vacuum extension tubes, and sucked the smoky messages out of the sky.
-
I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep.
-
Great news for Jrand.

How do you make that rhyme work on the page, I wonder.

Hello!

Great news, DR Jrand68!
-
Hilarious dream, DR Laura!
-
Your dreams are much more fun than mine, Laura! (at least that one)
-
Difficult day in certain ways and in other ways it was fine, although no action on Indiegogo, but more reservations for Kritzerland.
-
Bk is inching up on 96000. A pretty round-looking number.
-
(at least that one)
Is saying "that one" too political?
-
Well, my mom hasn't heard from her brother yet about when he might be getting back from Seattle, so we're all just going to go to my parents' house and wait for them. :)
Be back later. But before I go...
-
PAGE THREE DANCE!!!

LOL, DR Jane, the photo of the iceberg on Facebook is beautiful, but I meant we need to see a photo of the super-cute captain!

So, this evening Richard and I bought a new washer and dryer that won't be delivered until a week from tomorrow.

The repair guy said it would cost too much to fix ours. We're not sure, but we think we've had it more than 10 years and for the past 4 it's been serving 2 households.

Watching The Hospital. Great cameo from Stockard Channing as a nurse.

I've had mine for about 18 years and it's been serving only me.
-
77%! That's what I'M talkin' about.
-
I don't do but a couple of loads a week.
-
And thanks to the person who jumped us - you know who you are.
-
The Hospital was better than I remembered it being, thanks in large part to the great cast and, of course, Chayefsky's dialogue. What a script.
-
The air here is still rotten. And I think it'll stay that way until it rains, whenever that will be.
-
As a result, I have a headache.
-
And may turn in soon.
-
Where is everyone tonight?
-
I somehow don't think they're starting Deathstalker II.
-
Yes, I have started this overripe piece of cheese.
-
It looks entirely different from the first film, which paid about four cents to look medieval. This one is so modern, it isn't even funny.
-
Which is worse in a medieval tale?
--The leading actresses all-too-visible teeth fillings?
--The shoes that look like they're from a Ross Dress for Less sale?
--The makeup on the women wearing Frederick's finest?
--The hero's leather pants with the back pocket?
It's all so choice.
-
And sadly none of it is entertaining.
-
"Come on! Come on! The back door! Let's go!"
With dialogue like that, who needs the volume on?
-
Page three! Really?
-
What is this page three malarkey?
-
What is this malarkey malarkey?

Most unseemly.

Maybe Virtual Kit Kats count as virtual cookies.

Prayers and safe travel to vixmom and vixdad.
-
Today I met my friend at the Red Wind Casino.
-
The idea was to have the buffet for lunch.
-
But, before we ate, we decided to gamble for a while, first.
-
Neither of us play any table games.
-
So, we played the slot machines.
-
My friend goes there enough to know which machines you can play and have fun without breaking the bank.
-
Lady Luck must have known we were celebrating my birthday.
-
I didn’t win any jackpots, but then I have never won a jackpot.
-
Still, I did very well - for me.
-
I left, at the end of the afternoon, up by a couple of hundred dollars.
-
And the lunch buffet was free for me, because it was my birthday.
-
I had fried clams, sautéed shrimp, Mac and cheese, and a Mongolian curry chicken over white rice.
-
I am really not a curry eater.
-
I try it, but it just isn’t my thing.
-
My friend had a made-to-order fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp.
-
I should have ordered the fettuccine or the made-to-order tacos.
-
However , by the time i thought abut it, I had already dished up my plate of food.
-
I suppose I could have just ditched the full plate and ordered the tacos or the fettuccine, but I couldn’t bring myself to waste food.
-
Anyway, it was a nice afternoon.
-
Nick was a little miffed that I was gone so long, but he got over it
-
Give him his dinner and some cookies and he can be very forgiving.
-
Crazy local news story tonight.
-
They found an old WWII-era mine floating in Puget Sound this afternoon.
-
Navy divers managed to attach some lines to it
-
One more post.
-
Page 5
-
Anyway, the authorities evacuated residents on the shore near the mine.
-
Then the Navy towed the mine out into the middle of the Sound.
-
And then they blew it up.
-
There was no secondary explosion, which showed the mine was inert.
-
I think that is the word they used for it being a dud.
-
They found an old WWII-era mine floating in Puget Sound this afternoon.
:o
-
Now they have to try and figure out where it came from.
-
There was no secondary explosion, which showed the mine was inert.
Whew! I was with my family all evening, so I didn't see any news.
-
I left, at the end of the afternoon, up by a couple of hundred dollars.
Congrats, Tom! I've never won that much.
-
The air here is still rotten. And I think it'll stay that way until it rains, whenever that will be.

John (and anyone else interested), have you ever tried or heard of these ChocZero Keto Bark, Milk Chocolate [with] Hazelnuts (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XKWR97N/)? Only 3 net grams of carbs, and no actual sugar. They're a little pricey, but I really like them!

So, today my newly discovered uncle (my mom's half-brother) and his family who are visiting from Germany spent the day in Seattle. They went to Pike Place Market and the Seattle Center. They thought about going up to the observation level of the Space Needle, but it would've cost $140 for the four of them! :o
