Well, you've read the notes, the notes were angry and written, and now it is time for you to post until the angry cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: QUIDDITY!
-
Congrats to TCB on the millstone.

Wow...that Angry Playwright sure is full of himself. ::)
-
There's more and if he continues to write I shall also continue - it's worse than you can imagine, this guy's sheer chutzpah.

I think we would expect nothing less from you, BK! ;D
-
And on that note (B-flat), I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
12 hour day yesterday then I collected vixdad from the train station and we went right to IHOP for dinner
-
I had something new on their menu...fettuccini with Alfredo sauce and mixed with sliced smoked sausage, chicken breast and bacon
-
They were out of fettuccine so asked if they could substitute penne
-
It was delish
-
Good morning, all!
-
It was also the only thing I ate all day
-
Then we came home and I went right to bed
-
I am home today and I intend to finish Act One of How to Succeed . . .
-
I have had a shower and a cup of coffee and now must dry my hair
-
I hope that Annabelle cooperates and stays off my work table so I can work.
-
Vixdad's Elantra still held by the incompetent Hyundai hostage holders ( they obviously are not mechSnics because three weeks in they'd ever still not discovered why the check engine light s on)
-
See yez latah
-
Good morning, all.

TOD:
Usually the pie before me.
I love cherry, lime chess, green chile apple, key lime, peach-blackberry, rhubarb, grapefruit merengue, coconut cream, icebox, grasshopper, buttermilk, derby, pecan (with or without chocolate) ... I could go on and on.
-
BK,
Love the story about the angry playwright.
I tend to ignore reviews: "Different strokes for different strokes," as they say.
However, what does annoy me is when the publication sends an "cub" reporter to do the review.
It wasn't a terrible review, but I can never forget the person who reviewed my initial production of JOLSON, who referred to one character as "a Mafia leader".
That "Mafia leader" was clearly Al Capone.
Reviewers do have a certain responsibility to know what they are talking about, or editors shouldn't send them to review.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Got to move forward (I was going to say "finish up", but it's never finished) on some outdoor work this morning before a thunderstorm moves in later and brings an end to these latest heat wave-ish temperatures.

Work and car relief for vixmom!
I don't understand (well, duh, who does?) about the check engine light. They connect their computer and it gives the reason code that the light came on. So is that "reason" not checking out to be any problem, and the light stays on, or it comes back on after they turn it off? Is the car at a Hyundai dealer?
A couple of years ago mine was coming on intermittently, with the reason code pointing to the catalytic converter. I'd been taking the car to my nearby Firestone for a while, and they told me it was time to replace the CC (I think they quoted $1300), but that it could be put off for a while, at least until time for an emissions test. And of course I put it off. Then a while later I was at the dealer for something unrelated that I wanted them to handle, and one of the "small" things they replaced was a hose clamp or some such on the exhaust system. Guess what? No more engine light, and the car passed its emissions check months later. Which it thankfully has always done anyway, but this time it was an extra special relief.
On the other hand (unfortunately, there's always an other hand), it took that dealer... how many visits to find the air conditioner leak a few months back? Oy!
So, not that any of this helps vixdad's Elantra!

Whoa. The meat lover's Fettucine Alfredo! Bring it on!

DR Vixmom, go to a higher authority in the franchise than this auto dealer and complain. They need to fix the issue or explain why they cannot and return your car.
-
Thank you for both vibes DR TCB.

It's still unfolding, DR Elmore, but sounds pretty serious. Right on Fountain Square...

It's really shocking.
Not that they aren't all shocking. We're just still not used to having this stuff happen in our own back yards.

Never saw that on stage, but I went crazy over the movie when it came out while I was in Cleveland. Went back to it a few times, dragging friends along.

Vincent Gardenia and Elizabeth Wilson immediately became two of my favorite character actors, thanks to that movie.

TOD:
Chocolate cream pie, mud pie, cherry, and apple. Peach and lemon meringue are very nice too. When I was growing up, we used to spend Thanksgiving with another family and their mom would make something called chocolate black bottom pie, which was absolute heaven. I've tried to find a recipe for it, and I've found something close, and I've made it, but it was never quite the same. Years later, that mom told me she got the recipe from my own mom who never made it at all - I'm sure it was too much trouble for her, so she delegated it to the other mom, ha!

-
the last load of wash i had time to do is in the dryer. fingers crossed it won't be long before i am up to finishing the piles sitting out. i know i will not have as much mobility or use of my fingers after the surgery, at least not for 11 days when i return for my post-op check.

Been dealing with crazy computer problems. Got a senior tech on the phone. Was getting pop-ups like crazy about keychain not remembering passwords and all kinds of junk - we finally reset everything (thankfully the cloud keychain is always on so all that was protected) - he didn't know why it was happening, but thinks it could be Word mucking up the works because the new OS doesn't support my version of Word, which is 2011. I knew that, but this is the first time there's ever been a problem. He's saying I will probably have to get the new version - very expensive - and annoying, frankly. It's not Apple - Word did this to force people into the new version. Right now I have Word closed and Dropbox off because it was trying to sink like 8,000 files. I'll turn it on overnight and let it do that. But everything seems okay for now.

Burt Reynolds will always be Michael Arthur Pritchard in At Long Last Love. Say what you will, it was the movie that introduced me to Cole Porter. And it changed my life.
-
I once interviewed Charles Strouse. He told me he had to write a score for Burt Reynolds and didn’t even know if Burt Reynolds could sing. I gave him a copy of the album he did that Bobby Goldsboro produced. Reynolds did sing Strouse in All Dogs Go to Heaven.

It didn't change my life, but I really like the movie, too. And I love Mildred Natwick and Madeline Kahn and Eileen Brennan, and even Cybill Shepherd! :D

Unless something unforeseen or grisly occurs, I am hopefully finished with Act One of How To Succeed . . . and can proceed to Act Two,
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Jane, I hope that at this moment you've completed a very successful surgery and you can relax and have a restful, but speedy recovery.
-
Setting keys in forty minutes or so.
-
I've had two more e-mails from the Angry Playwright so there WILL be a part two in the notes. Amusingly, I responded to the one that just arrived, telling him it looked like he'd be sending e-mails to a different reviewer now - because I'd just found another total pan of his show, the link of which I included to make it easy for him to find it.
-
My friend Brian from the sandwich shop came by yesterday after his shift. I told him I'd like him to clean like I would do if I still could. He was very thorough, which was exactly what I wanted. He has a good work ethic, a good attitude, and likes to help out. As he cleaned, I assembled the printer cart I purchased from Amazon. I knew I might need a bit of help. Sure enough. Brian supplied the muscle needed and we got the cart set up in my mini home office. It occurred to me this morning that the new, not-yet-purchased printer might be too far from the router when on the cart, but I'll deal with that later.
Brian gets off work at 4pm some days and lives in Orange County. During rush hour it's a 2 1/2 hour drive. Ugh. He can be at my house in 5 minutes and help me out until the traffic clears.
I have a number of projects for him. They didn't faze him. I've had male housecleaners before and in some ways prefer them. They can lift things that I can't and don't mind doing so. I truly hope this continues.
-
Regarding cars and dealerships:
I've come to really loathe the dealerships. There may be some ethical ones out there, but so many are not. I had my beloved Volvo for 13 years. I had problems with the dealer in Virginia, then far more problems with the dealers here. I took the Volvo to one dealer repeatedly for the same problem. At least four times they told me they didn't know what the problem was, but each time they found something else that needed repair to the tune of approximately $200. Really? When I suggested it might be the transmission, they said, "We don't think so." An independent diagnosed it as a transmission issue and I had it rebuilt.
I was so upset with the dealer that I phoned Volvo USA headquarters. I was told that they couldn't do anything about the problem UNTIL A VOLVO DEALER DIAGNOSED IT AS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. The Headquarters person was very skilled at representing the company's interest and completely tuning out the customer's concerns. I was now even more disgusted.
I'd always planned to, when the time came for another car, buy another Volvo. But when the time came I could not bring myself to do business with any of the Volvo dealers here. I chose an Audi instead and take it to a very good independent mechanic.
-
Since I don't drive much I now buy my cars used, very clean and with low miles. My independent mechanic will check out any car for $100 or so. I trust their judgement. With the money I save by buying used if there is a problem I can afford to fix it and still come out ahead.
The independents have a different business model than the dealers. Service is all they do. If their customers aren't satisfied they won't return. Dealers, on the other hand, have you locked in due to warranties. Warranties sound great, but don't always pan out. I now do all I can to avoid the dealers for service. I will buy from a dealer, but I take my cars elsewhere for service.
-
That said, vibes to Vixmom and Vixdad that their car gets fixed properly and promptly.

Well, I need to leave work now and go to my sister's for a little bit. After that, I'm off to Costco to get some money back. I bought some protein shakes just last week, and yesterday...just YESTERDAY they went on sale for $5 off EACH!
-
Since Costco has a very liberal returns policy, I expect that they'll just give me the money back instead of needing me to actually return the items and then turn around and buy them again at the sale price. At least, that's what I'm hoping for. :)
-
But before I go...

One of my very favorites of his novels. And I loved that adaptation.

I want some pie.

Please.

Starting to watch Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams. Never have seen it.
Sylvia Sidney is wonderful. I haven't figured out Joanne Woodward's character yet.
-
I'm up, I'm up - oh, wait...

Set keys for the past two hours. Very simple - most stuff was fine, some stuff came down a half-step or whole step, and the only bigger drop was Little Miracles, which I wrote in Eb, which is where it sat perfectly in my voice, but it was clearly too high for our gal so down it came to C, where it sits well in her voice.
-
I had an Islands cheeseburger for the meal o' the day - and a few fries. Now listening to the soundtrack of Matango (Attack of the Mushroom People) I like these Toho scores - and have tons of them. So, that's tonight's entertainment, I think.

Do you think you could get this "Anonymous" guy to write a guest column for HHW?

No one seems to know who "Anonymous" is?

Can we dedicate "Who Can It Be Now" to Anonymous?

I think Anonymous in this case is actually more than one person.

Moved on to Rodan, and now The Mysterians.

A plate is what you put pie on, not something you insert in an elbow.
-
Did I say I wanted pie?
-
Peaceful dreams, Jane.
-
A Plate and Screws in My Elbow - that's the title of my next novel.
-
Went to Gelson's and got three tiny snacks for tonight.
-
Have now heard The H-Man, The Human Vapor, and up now is Secret of the Telegian. The clear winner so far is: The Human Vapor. Really fun and weird.
-
Do you think you could get this "Anonymous" guy to write a guest column for HHW?
Fred, "Anonymous" could be a woman. ;)
-
I think Anonymous in this case is actually more than one person.
I was actually wondering that myself.
