Well, you've read the notes, the notes were satirical, and now it is time for you to post until the satirical cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SIPPET!

Can one of you fine people please record the Harold Prince documentary on PBS Friday night and make me a DVD?

Can one of you fine people please record the Harold Prince documentary on PBS Friday night and make me a DVD?
I can do that. It won't be hi-def though, just a standard-def DVD.
-
That's fine.

Tonight is our last rehearsal before the preview.

Tonight is our last rehearsal before the preview.
Break Legs, Tom!
-
Thank you, George.
-
I kicked butt last night.
-
To continue my Kindle conversation from last night...Fortunately, Amazon keeps a list of everything I downloaded through them, even OverDrive library titles, so if I want to start collecting again (like The Expanse series), I can find out what they are.

I kicked butt last night.
That's great!

T.O.D.
i first saw 2001 in 1968 when i reviewed it for the radio station where I worked.
-
I saw it at the Seattle Cinerama Theater.
-
Goodnight, George.
-
Goodnight, BK.
-
Good night, Tom.
-
I'm off to bed, now.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!

I kicked butt last night.
I never doubted you would.
-
BK, where's Kerry's name on the poster?
-
After our patrol this morning, I am yaking Annabelle to City Vet for her booster shot. That's my only responsibility today.
-
I do hope to finish the second edit on the Act Two full scores of How To Succeed . . . as well. It all depends on Annabelle's urge to interfere.
-
Good morning to all
-
I saw it after its initial Cinerama run. My father took me.
I have seen many movies over the years and I can't remember what cinema I saw them in, but I do remember which cinema I saw 2001 in.
I was a young lad and was so impressed with visuals and the music. I had never seen anything like it in my short moviegoing career. I did not understand what the story was about and was very confused. My father couldn't explain it to me either.
He did buy me the soundtrack and the liner notes had an explanation of the story and it was then I understood what the film was about.
-
I saw it again a few months ago in an IMAX theater in its roadshow version and what an amazing feat for the eyes and ears it was. After seeing it I thought that there was no way I could ever enjoy it again watching it on TV despite having a large screen Hi-def TV.
-
Good morning, all.

I think you mean: to help?
Is she involved in proofreading, or is it more her job to keep the desk neat and organized?
-
Whoa. Is that TCB, at five o’ the clock in the a.m. left coast time?
-
Yes, indeed it is. Good day, Chas.

She would claim to do both as well as being my muse.

This morning, on our patrol, she insisted on playing tag. I chased her up several floors while she laughed and remained out of reach. I finally caught her on the landing to the fourth floor and dragged her home.
-
]T.O.D.
I first saw 2001 when it went into wide release.
Certainly I was impressed with the visuals, but the story and its ending left me cold.
Not really my kind of movie.

Rehearsal vibes for DR TCB!! Opening Night Approaches.
Rehearsal vibes for MR BK & Co.

Condolences to DR GEORGE on his loss.....
-
I saw 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY for the first time at a drive in theatre - and subsequently on VHS and DVD and BluRay and TV.....so of course I have never really seen the movie.
I do like it! HAL is one of my favorite movie villains....

TOD
I'm not sure exactly when it opened in Cleveland (BK: I think Michael Coates did a history on this one), but I didn't even know about it at first. A friend did, and said we definitely needed to see it. One evening just after the end of the school year, we saw it at Loew's State in downtown Cleveland, the movie palace configured for Cinerama in those years.
We were mightily blown away and confused and yakked about it for hours, as "everyone" was doing then. A few days later I was ready for my second viewing, and went back by myself. Midway through the second act, I came to terms with what I was seeing and felt at peace with it. Shortly thereafter we were off to the Meadowbrook School of Music. At some point there, my friend and I, and a few others who hadn't seen it, went into town and saw it at the Summit in downtown Detroit, another magnificent movie palace configured for Cinerama.
Back in Cleveland in the fall, I can't swear I returned to Loew's State, but I probably did. When it closed there (and Ice Station Zebra replaced it), it went to the Fox Cedar Center, an absolutely marvelous modern suburban theater. All of this was in the original 70mm. In the next couple of years it began getting around town and I saw it once or twice in 35mm. Went to it again on a Christmas break, on the west side of Cincinnati. Living in L.A., I saw it in "Dimension 150" at the Egyptian, and, over the years, a few times in 70mm at the Cinerama Dome. Last time was in the early 1980s.
I never watched it on TV, with one very special exception. I somehow missed knowing that they were going to do this (and this was during my TV Guide years, go figure), but I was at the Del Amo mall one evening to pick up something, and getting back into my car I heard on KFAC (the classical music station) ... silence. And then breathing. Very quickly I recognized it as '2001'. These were the glory days of TV-and-FM simulcasting, and I quickly figured out that I was indeed hearing the film soundtrack and that KCET (PBS) must be playing it. At home a few minutes later, I was watching on my then-new 25" (wow) Mitsubishi monitor and hearing it in glorious stereo. That was a magical evening. Can you even imagine an FM station broadcasting something like that now? I'll answer that: No.
I never went to it during the re-release in 2001. My next time to jump back in was this very year - 70mm IMAX in NYC, digital IMAX in Danbury, and the most recent time in 70mm IMAX at the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk.
-
I haven't found a picture of it playing in Cleveland, but here you can see Loew's State showing Ice Station Zebra which immediately followed 2001 (click on this one to enlarge). And here's an ad for the Summit in Detroit.

DR George re: your dead kindle
Have you tried contacting amazon customer service? There are usually a few tricks that they suggest. Plugging it in and charging is one. And a hard reboot is another. They also usually let you send back your dead kindle for credit towards your new one (if you buy from amazon). My guess is that they will have some good sales this Friday.
-
I kicked butt last night.
It was bound to happen and I am very happy for you.

While my tablet didn't die, my Ashland library card finally expired. Unfortunately I have an unusually large number of books in my account, either checked out, on hold, or in the wish list. Odd is that books are still being automatically checked out.
-
I can't open either, Keith's or mine, account on my computer. I can get into the account I had open on my tablet and even download the loans that came in. I can see all the books in this account.
-
Now that I finally finished reading my book I will attempt to find out what the rest of the books are before completely losing the accounts. If I remember correctly a few of them are not available through the Vancouver library.
-
Annabelle and I are home from the vet. She complained all the way down and back. The only time she was quiet was when we were at City Vet and the lobby was filled with barking dogs. She was the only cat in the room, observing them from the safety of her carrier.
-
There was an older couple there with a coal-black poodle clipped and coiffed in classic "poodle cut." I really think it's the most humiliating and ugly look for such a pretty dog.

I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep.

Condolences to DR GEORGE on his loss.....
Thanks, Jrand. :'(

Tuesday afternoon greetings! It’s pie-making day for me and I just did the most boneheaded thing I’ve ever done in the kitchen. My pumpkin pie recipe calls for mixing the sugar and spices in a small bowl, setting that aside while you mix the eggs, pumpkin, and evaporated milk, then adding the dry ingredients before filling the pie shells and baking. Yep, you guessed it - I put the pies in the oven without adding the sugar and spices. Fortunately they’d been in less than 5 minutes and I had more crusts, so we were able to salvage the filling and start over.
Assembly of the pecan pie went much more smoothly and the house is beginning to smell good!
-
I shall now be on my way to rehearsal.
-
Kerry O'Malley did the poster, so not sure why she didn't include her name. She's also doing two little numbers, but we didn't know that until yesterday, as she's also doing a TV series.

Jennifer, I did try plugging it in to try and charge it. Nothing happened at all. :P And I can't send it back to Amazon because I bought it used for only $10. So, I'm not really that sad about it...more annoyed than anything else. :)

Good afternoon!

I'm back from my semi-annual ophthalmologist appointment.

Great news, TCB!

Glad your check finally arrived, BK!

It's a sunny, if windy and cool, day in Northern Virginia.

One more...

I received my line notes from last night's performance.

My definition of kicking butt, and that of our stage manager, are apparently two different things.

I record dog shows so I can speed through these dogs. I get shivers just looking at them.

DR TCB did you find any comments from the stage manager of value?
-
More foolishness from DR TCB's production staff....now I am not sure - but my first guess would be that some if not all of them have recently been through theatre classes at some kind of learning institution and know exactly how EVERYTHING should be done.
-
My last experience of this is from a young man - recently married to one of the worst stage managers I ever worked with, and who both graduated in the last year from a Theatah Prograhm at a local college NOT DePauw....
She is working in a newly formed "professional" company in a town a couple of counties over. He was talking to me during the intermission of BAREFOOT IN THE PARK saying dismissively that he could never work at my theatre because we don't do serious stuff.....and all we do is "toy" theatre.
I asked him what he was doing next. His family owns what is left of a restaurant somewhere in the middle of the woods somewhere, and he is doing - or wants to do - WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? - and set it at the restaurant where George and Martha are vacationing.....
I said the setting of the university is pretty endemic to the plot, and he didn't seem to think it would make any difference, and that his idea is the best and smartest ever to have come around...I think he is playing George as well....he is 24, I think....
I asked his wife what she thinks of the idea, and in her own dim way all she said was: Where will I find a gun that shoots an umbrella?
I almost want to go see it....ALMOST....

Well, nobody said that stage managers were perfect. :))

I can still read the e-books that are already on it, but as far as I know, I can't reregister it as the "Kindle #2" that it was before and continue to download e-books onto it. I could reregister it as a new Kindle to my account, but that would make all the library books go away, and I don't want to do that.

True...very true. But it's especially nice to be able to collect books in a series and not have to wait until I've read them to be able to get the next ones.

Back from a fun rehearsal. I got everything up on its feet and did the final bit of staging on the last two group numbers, so tomorrow we can assemble everything and then run it straight through. It feels long to me. One medley is really long and I think I got the writer to agree to some cuts, including one whole number in the medley - that will help. And Kerry and I feel two other numbers could go without hurting anything.
-
Stopped at Taco Bell and came home and ate that all up.

I don't know that they care where you got the kindle from. I thought it was just a way to send in old kindles that didn't work and to exchange for a new one. I would still contact customer service.
At least it was only $10. But I agree it is super annoying. Although I would be very upset. I probably should have a back-up because I use my kindle every day and would be very inconvenienced.

TOD:
I saw 2001 as the second half of a double bill with Ridley Scott's The Duellists, a movie based on a Conrad short story. Let's see, 19th century-set fiction or a sci-fi epic? Well, I loved The Duellists, it almost goes without saying, and I was initially not overwhelmed with 2001. Through the years, though, the tables have turned. While I still love The Duellists, I realize it wasn't the mindblower that 2001 has proven to be. 2001 has stayed with me -- images have appeared in dreams -- even if it's not a movie I've warmed up to.
-
Tonight's noir has the delicious title of Kiss the Blood Off My Hands.
A topless Burt Lancaster is about to be whipped with a cat o' nine tails.
-
Weird day at work. Plenty of work to do, but no one was in to get it done. So, I left at 1 p.m.
-
Got five emails after leaving. I can handle them tomorrow.
-
Thankfully, I'm working from home tomorrow.
-
Went to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods looking for duck fat, which Bonnie wants me to bring to help with Thanksgiving dinner.
Got the duck fat, but the crowds were too hard to deal with.
-
then went home and napped for a little while.
-
let's move on ...

Four!
-
After dance practice, I went with Joy to a Chinese buffet for a quick dinner. It was strange. Some of the food was beautifully prepared. The clams in black bean sauce was really good. The mushrooms were perfectly prepared with beef. The fried squid was light and delicious. But the drawback was that nothing was hot. You'd look at the buffet tables and see steam rising. And the heat lamps were in full order, but nothing was more than warm by the time you got your plate to the table.
-
That doesn't seem surprising to me.
-
The ice cream was cold. Thank goodness.

I hadn't heard about trading in a Kindle for a credit. I'll have to look into that.

Or the first! I saw the movie to Crazy Rich Asians and was going to request it, but the first book of the trilogy has 211 holds! Book two has 38 holds and book three has 35 holds. Before my Kindle died, I was actually able to get book two (and turn it right back in), but I'm number 12 for book three, and number 51 for book one! :o
-
I had to place another hold on book two and I'm back to hold #38 of 38. :(

Well, I need to leave work now. I'm going to my sister's to make a cheesecake for Thanksgiving, and to also help her put up some shelves, or something like that.
Be back later.

Next up: Netflix sent me a Fritz Lang I hadn't heard of: The Woman in the Moon, a silent film dating back to 1929. It's close to 3 hours long, so I don't know how much I'll watch tonight.

Great art deco sets in this Lang movie.

I would have said that you were making that whole story up, except I know a theater genius who would have loved to be part of that production of Virginia Woolf.

Hi, George.
-
How many hours is Bruce giving us to get off of page five?
-
I don’t think we will make it by midnight.
-
We are half way there.
-
For dinner tonight, I went to Five Guys Burgers. Is that a national chain?
-
I stopped because I thought it said Five Gays.
-
Kidding. Just kidding.
-
Lordy, they sure can’t call that place fast food.
-
It took me 30 minutes to get a cheeseburger and a small fry.
-
Lordy, they sure can’t call that place fast food.
And it ain't that cheap.
-
Apparently, everybody else knew they were in for a wait, because they all helped themselves to the free unshelled peanuts.
-
There's one on the west side of Olympia.
-
I've been a few times.
-
Also, I didn’t realize that I needed to stop by the credit union to get a personal loan to pay for my food.
-
The burger was good, the fries, not so much.
-
It took me 30 minutes to get a cheeseburger and a small fry.
Yikes! It never took that long for me.
-
Yes, we both mentioned the price.
-
Next time I will try Pizza Studio.

Hi, jan.
-
Next time I will try Pizza Studio.
I've never heard of that.
-
In case anyone was interested in knowing, I paid $12.79 for a cheeseburger and a small fry.
-
Michael Douglas is on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
-
Next time I will try Pizza Studio.
I've never heard of that.
It is next door to Five Guys in the Lakewood Towne Center. The people at the theater really like it.
-
Michael just said that Kirk Douglas will turn 102 years old in December! That's amazing!
-
I didn’t go there today, because (get this) I didn’t want to spend much money on dinner.
-
$12.79 for a burger and fries? Yikes! I mighta guessed I was in for a long wait if they're giving free peanuts.

There are a couple of places around here where I can pay too much, but they're good.
-
How are you feeling today, friend Tom?
-
You too, friend George?
-
I only watch the monologue of Stephen Colbert, and then turn it off.
-
You too, friend George?
Doing well...except for my dead Kindle. ;)
-
How are you feeling today, friend Tom?
Today was not a great day or great evening. How are you feeing, jan?
-
Did you slap the kindle to make sure its dead. they like to play possum, you know.

I did kind of throw it down on a table not so gently.
-
I just realized that Thanksgiving this year falls on the 55th anniversary of the JFK assassination.
-
Tom, sorry not a great day. Hope its better tomorrow. I'm freaking out about thanksgiving dinner. For years I did the full on turkey dinner until my sister-in-law finally told me she doesn't like turkey and she is avoiding red meat.

Oh, no! Do you like turkey?
-
My s-i-l is from Thailand so our meal is going to be rather eclectic. My nephew is taking on the cooking from them and I decided to do a pork roast. Haven't found one yet so it's back to the markets again tomorrow.
-
Personally, I love a good turkey dinner. My sister dislikes turkey.

I don't really like turkey, either.
-
I love turkey. I may wait until after the holiday and get a small turkey or just a breast for just me. I'm making a quinoa salad. cinnamon apples, butternut squash and garlic bread as requested.
-
Actually stuffing/dressing is my favorite part of the dinner.

Actually stuffing/dressing is my favorite part of the dinner.
My sister makes what she calls "Scarborough Fair Stuffing." It actually has parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme.
-
It is a good thing that Stovetop Stuffing isn’t very good, or I would be eating it three or four times a week.
-
What do you put in your quinoa salad?
-
I make killer dressing but it doesn't really go with this meal. what are you guys doing for t-day?
-

Do you ever make your own?
-
PAGE SIX DANCE!!
-
Quinoa (obviously) tomatoes, carrot, celery, cilantro, sliced olives, cucumber, dressed with olive oil and lemon juice. I may add some cashews this time.

Only when I cook a turkey or a turkey breast.
-
I have made it to serve with other meats, like a pork roast.
-
George you have your pages wrong.
-
Maybe I will make some dressing. If no one else wants it, I'll save for me. Cooking for one sucks.
