Well, you've read the notes, the notes went out on a limb, and now it is time for you to post until the out on a limb cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: HOOPLA!
-
First post after BK.

Kurt Weill Revisited (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Kurt-Weill-Revisited-1981-Various-Artists/7057#63069) has been added to CastAlbums.org (http://castalbums.org/). ;D

Good morning, all!

DR vixmom, check your email!

Annabelle is risking total extinction this morning. It began last night when she decided it was fun to watch cans of Fancy Feast drop into Thatch's water bowl and see water splash everywhere. This morning she's tossed things off the computer table and tried to take apart the printer.
-
DR JohnG, I never could listen to Wozzeck until I saw the Met production.
-
Another try this morning for a haircut. I'll leave here around 8:45.
-
The only Kurt Weill I cannot warm up to are his early compositions in which he's still a "modern composer" of the 1920s, and they're a hard go for me. From 1928, with The Threepenny Opera on, there's little I dislike. I am quite fond of these musicals and operas:
The Threepenny Opera
The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny
Happy End
Marie Galante
The Seven Deadly Sins
Knickerbocker Holiday
Lady in the Dark
One Touch of Venus
Street Scene
Down in the Valley
Lost in the Stars
-
DR TCB, Knickerbocker Holiday was the first musical I ever saw. It was a junior high school production, and I was twelve or thirteen.
-
I had a long dream last night. I was in Oxford, Ohio, and I was staying in a house (dormitory?) with a lot of university students, and I befriended a young man and woman living there who were theatre students. The next day we were all dispersing. The young man was off to Europe (Greece? Sicily?) for the summer and the young lady was either going home or to some summer theatre work. There was a big theatre showcase that night and at the party after the show, I was trying to track them down to get their home addresses to keep in touch. In the cast and party were my old friends Karla Burns and Chris Weikel.

Another goddamned bathroom ceiling leak. I hope this doesn't screw up my morning.
-
Good morning, all.

CD ordered. To my knowledge I've never heard this Bagley album, and to say I'm especially looking forward to this one is an understatement.

DR Elmore, of course, is light years ahead of me. Many of these, I'd only be familiar with certain songs. I see this list as a homework assignment! :)

I just cancelled today's barber appointment. I have no idea whenb the hell the super will arrive to check out the problem with the leak. which seems to be a perpetual; issue since 1980 when I moved in.

I think the only shows I omitted were The Eternal Road and Johnny Johnson. I like several of the songs and music in each and I have seen both works staged, but I can't warm up to either.

Can any of us even imagine a junior high or high school doing anything like Weill these days? I can't, though I'd like to be proven wrong.

So, this afternoon I load up the car with keyboard & amp, etc., and head up to the Hello, Dolly! place.
The orchestra plays in a room behind the stage and gets miked into the house. Since I only switch between piano and celeste in this show, I'm taking the lighter, simpler keyboard in the hope that it will sound okay over the system. If not, I'll have to swap for the heavier one, but I'll really hate schlepping that thing up there just for that. For my taste it'll mainly depend on the piano sound. I actually prefer the celeste on the cheaper one.
-
Looking forward to hearing everyone. We've got the full orchestra.
-
Good morning!
-
DR Elmore - is it water leaking into YOUR bathroom or into the one below?
And the building has had this problem all along?
-
Good morning, all.

TOD
To Elmore’s list I’ll add Love Life. Here I’ll Stay is such a beautiful song.
-
Thanks George,
After a while I found a position that eased the pain and was able to fall asleep.
-
DR TCB it is difficult purchasing in a sellers market and more expensive. Yes scary indeed and worse if the market drops after you buy something.

Since 1980 my bathroom ceiling has fallen in at least four times from plumbing problems provoked by bad plumbing and incompetent plumbers. The leak was from the apartment above me: clogged and overflowed. Our super is nice, but he's no Val. I called him at 7:45 and he showed up at 10:15.

Thursday morning greetings! Richard and I are going to do some midday errands soon and then this evening I'm meeting with my book group to discuss Being Mortal by Dr. Atul Gawande.

I forgot both The Firebrand of Florence and Love Life and I love both of them.

And, yes, "Here I'll Stay" is glorious, but "My Name is Samuel Cooper" really moves me to tears. Neither of the two live recordings of Love Life nor The Firebrand of Florence (lot of bad casting) move me as much as John McGlinn's recording of excerpts from each.

DR Elmore, I just asked Richard if he was in that production and he doesn't remember it. Was it here in Middletown?

Roosevelt Jr. High; Rick Ashton played Pieter Stuyvesant, and I suspect Richard played timpani in the orchestra. We would have been in eighth grade.
-
I am embarrassed to say I am NOT the one who discovered the wrong chord (accidentals missing) in "Ribbons Down My Back"... after all of these years. Always heard it right and played it right, but never saw it.
But I just found another one in the Tams-Witmark piano part, so maybe that makes us even. (Same song!)
-
That said, I think I'd be a pretty good proofreader, if that's literally what I was sitting down to do.

I loved that book. What did you think of it, Ginny?

That's what happened to me when I bought my condo 12 1/2 years ago. But , I knew I wasn't going anywhere EVER, so it didn't realy matter.

No....wait....that's what happened to DR VIXMOM.

Oh, no. Peter Tork, endearingly offbeat bassist and singer in the Monkees, dies at 77 (https://www.msn.com/en-us/music/news/peter-tork-endearingly-offbeat-bassist-and-singer-in-the-monkees-dies-at-77/ar-BBTUevx?OCID=ansmsnnews11). :(

And the second edit of the How to Succeed . . . piano-conductor is finished! That's one big pain off my schedule and one step closer to closing this project. Tomorrow I'll be at the I Married an Angel reading, so on Saturday I can begin the second choral arrangement for the Golden Gate Men's Chorus.

Did you like it? I had heard good things about it but passed on reading it. From what I can tell it is similar to a book Bryan had us read when he was in medical school.

Page two?

One of those brain-fried Thursdays.
-
I forgot to transfer my fitbit before walking 4 miles. I am not sure which is more annoying, my forgetfulness or not getting credit for the miles.
-
In my head I know that I have walked a total of 9 miles.
-
Our neighbor/friend from Ashland left this morning after breakfast. It was a nice visit. Bruce she noticed your books and the blogs by Chuck. I am not sure if she knows him through work or through Larry Drake or both.

Sad...and a smiley face?? That's a different kind of autocorrect than what we've had before. ;)

PAGE THREE DANCE!!
-
Work has followed me to dance class. Not happy.

Finished listening to Stephen King’s Apt Pupil. Good premise and some great stuff, but really overwritten. I had forgotten the ending. I also find i can’t take cruelty to animals at all.

And that one I corrected. It might help if I put my reading glasses on or enlarged the print on my computer.

We are about to watch something. Our guest recommended THE RIVER. Did anyone watch it? It was a one season show in 2012.
-
Hi am home from another paint night
-
Thus time the instructor showed up
-
I can't make the picture show up here but if some clever clogs can get it off FB for me I'd appreciate itmuchly

Back from saying hello to Dolly.
A good orchestra rehearsal, with a smidgen of sitzprobing. Full sitz on Saturday.
-
Ladies and gentleman, Mambo No. 5.
-
No, wait! That's Mahler No. 5.
-
I always get those two confused.
-
Mahler, Mambo.
-
Mambo, Mahler.
-
Haven't listened to this recording of Bernstein's in ages. He takes it slow, as he was wont to do in later years. Yet there's still a majesty to it that I really enjoy.
-
Tomorrow night, I usher for the Symphony's Tchaikovsky and Schumann program. But what works of either are scheduled, I dunno.
-
I got several emails from work after I left. I was not amused.
-
Off to bed soon and we haven't gotten near page four.
-
Where is everyone tonight?
-
I hope you all are having wild and wonderful sex.
-
Since I'm here by myself.
-
Hello, 0 guests!
-
Are you off having sex, too?
-
Well, somebody should be.
-
Maybe it's the Mahler.
-
And maybe it should be the mambo.
-
What am I saying?
-
I wish I knew.
-
Let's move on ...
-
Four!
-
And I must bow out for a little while.
-
Coaching session was fun, corrections were made with Grant, and dinner was eaten at Hugo's.
-
Good night, all.
-
I'm at home, and I'm watching last week's The Orville.
-
This week's The Orville is recording, so I'll probably watch that when I'm done with last week's episode.

Did you get company?

I will have to see if we can get it on demand

It's in the second season now. If you're interested, I'd recommend starting at the beginning. It doesn't start out great, but it gets better as it goes on.
-
Well it's 1:20 tomorrow so I guess I should go to bed

Good night

Yes, you need to begin at the beginning.

I am reading WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING.
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
And it's late already.
-
Which means why are we on page four?
-
Really?
-
And I must write notes in about thirty minutes.
-
Oh, no! The Orville is in trouble...and the episode ends in a cliff-hanger! :o
-
Fortunately, the second part will be shown next week, and not next season.

Ben Platt is going to perform on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, tonight.

Original movies? I know that you could buy feature films, or get a code to download movies for free when you bought certain DVDs or Blu-rays.

George, did you see LOVE, SIMON?
-
Who is Ben Platt?
He won the Tony Award for his lead performance in Dear Evan Hansen. He was also in one of BK's early Kritzerland shows.
-
George, did you see LOVE, SIMON?
I haven't seen it...yet. I bought it, so I will, eventually.
-
It got a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes (https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/love_simon)!

I”ll be interested in your opinion. I was not terribly impressed. It was sweet, but hardly the groundbreaking film I had heard it was.
