Well, you've read the notes, you know when the fat lady's next concert is, you know what she'll be singing, and now it is time to post until the fat lady cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: LUMBAR!
-
ah ha!
First post huzzah!
-
Lumbar is a good word.
Isnt' that where Abner's friend gets his drinks?
-
Welcome six GUESTS. We're talkin' about amusement park rides.
-
LUMBAR!
-
Well well well.
I liked the merry go round that used to come to the county fair, and a ride called the tilt a whirl. Sometimes I got sick riding the t a w - but it spun you around in such a neat fashion, I couldn't resist it.
As an adult - I love THE RACER a plain old wooden roller coaster in Paramount's King's Island - and the basket ferris wheel also at KI.
My favorite ride I NEVER got to take is 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea at Walt Disney World which was never in operation the times I was there.
Worst ride - the Teacups at Disneyland.
-
Carousel is one of my favourite musicals. That is as close as I get to fun fair rides.
-
Oh and the Drop Zone and The Beast roller coaster at KI.
Drop Zone is one of those tower drops....whew 3 seconds or so of free fall from about 300 feet.
-
I'm dancing the PACHANGA!
And might I just add - LUMBAR!
-
We've got a quorum on the forum. Now, if only the quorum would stop staring at their various and sundried toenails and post.
-
Welcome seven GUESTS. We're talkin' about LUMBAR and we're dancing the PACHANGA.
-
Who among us has eaten HERRING?
I don't like any kind of rollercoaster ride.
-
I've been on several rollercoasters over the years, but I've never been on one that's gone upside-down. I don't think that I've specifically avoided rollercoasters that go upside-down, it's probably just that whenever I've decided to go on a rollercoaster, the one(s) available didn't go upside-down.
-
Here's a fascinating factoid for your mental delectation: Three minutes ago George was replying to a post. His post never showed up. What does this mean? He wrote a post then thought better of posting it?
-
Was the post about the FAT LADY?
-
The only amusement park my family ever went to was Disneyland. One of my earliest memories, in fact, is from the year they opened, on the Snow White dark ride. The witch scared the bejezus out of me.
I always loved the Teacups.
The Jungle Riverboat never impressed me that much.
I do fondly remember the old version of the mine train, which took a leisurely ride through the Frontierland back country. That's a roller-coaster now, of course, which says something about what people enjoy these days.
-
Was the post a LUMBAR post?
-
Or was it a post about the PACHANGA?
-
I, too, loved the teacups, although I used to over do it and get quite nauseous.
-
I must say that it is amusing that since they did some fixing of the roof so that the leak thing can't happen anymore, there has been no rain. Go know. Other parts of the city have had plenty, but here, nope.
-
We like to call that irony.
-
Truth to tell, I enjoy a good roller-coaster ride. My first lover, Jason, couldn't stand 'em, thought they should be banned. Of course, the one time we went to Six Flags Magic Mountain, the group we were with dared him to ride each and every one. (This was shortly after the Colossus opened.) Fortunately for Jason, there were places where he could get a beer to steady his nerves both before and after the rides.
-
We've got a lot of people and only two of us are posting. I see the dashing and dapper Marc Chapeaux, I see Iris, I see Ann, I see George of the Disappearing Post, I see Jrand, I see lots of people.
-
Dinner was a replay of a combination I'd tried before: venison loin chops, beets, and doctored-up oatmeal. Or, at least that's how I'd planned it. Twice I had to shift gears.
First, I discovered very late in the game that we were out of oatmeal! Yes, out! I instead cooked a pot of barley, which I doctored with dried cranberries, chopped pecans, and sage. The end result was all right, but it would have been better with oatmeal; barley is a little too bland.
The second shift was when I discovered that what I'd thought were venison loin chops were instead venison tenderloins. This was no problem at all; I simply had to watch them as they grilled, to make sure I didn't overcook them.
The beets, which I'd roasted earlier, were easy to prepare: I diced them, added some white onion that I'd also diced, and cooked them in some apple cider. Apple cider is one of my favorite poaching mediums for veg. Dressed with a little parsley and a couple tablespoons of sour cream at the very end, and it was quite presentable and tasty.
Der Brucer enjoyed it all. But I've got oatmeal on my shopping list.
-
I'd post faster, but it takes a few minutes to type up these longer posts.
-
And we see you.
-
Five minutes ago George was previewing a post. That post never arrived. George, may we suggest to you that you have LOST YOUR SANITY.
-
I was busily searching EBAY for things I cannot afford to buy.
MR BK - you can go to www.epinions.com and put in your model of television set and read opinions of civilians who have bought and are using said model.
-
Does anyone want to see a Joan Crawford megamix disco type video?
-
And George has now left the room. Maybe he's gone to The LUMBAR Zone.
-
Holy moley on rye - page two!
-
And now George has returned. Is he trying to give us the GASLIGHT treatment?
-
Never liked rollercoasters. They make me want to vomit on the ground.
I like the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland.
Bruce, isn't the Pachanga an Indian Gambling Casino?
-
Is there any truth to the rumor that Guy Lumbardo invented the limbo?
-
Well here it is - if you want to look. :o

Nausea is my word for the teacups.

Five minutes ago George was previewing a post. That post never arrived. George, may we suggest to you that you have LOST YOUR SANITY.
NO! I got distracted...I had to go to the bathroom, and while I was there, I decided to brush my teeth and ... do other things one does while getting ready to go to sleep. ::)
-
Nausea is my word for the teacups.
That's the whole idea!!!
-
I also love the original Shall We Dance--such a touching and charming movie.
Americans should never try to remake a foreign film.
-
I think George got some 'splainin' to do.
And now Marc Chapeaux has left the room with nary a peep. If we can't have a peep then I say poop.
-
I also had to put the mini-cheesecakes in the fridge so that they will be chilled for tomorrow's bake sale at work.
-
Rod Serling had The Twilight Zone. haineshisway.com has The Lumbar Zone.
-
'Splain what? I don't think it takes much imagination to imagine what one has to do to get ready for bed...does it? ;)
-
Or was there something else that you wanted me to 'splain?
-
To 'splain the strain will plainly drain the brain. ;D
-
bed time bedtime for bonzo
-
Since the word for the day is LUMBAR, I think it should be 'spleen, not 'splain. As in "Lucy, I think you got some 'spleenin' to do."
-
'Splain why you wrote two posts that never appeared. You 'splained one of them away in a nebulous fashion (spandex pants and angora sweater).
-
Ahh. I changed my mind. I do that...unfortunately all too often. So, here's a post where I didn't change my mind:
-
Who the heck is Marc Chapeaux? Did I miss something? :-\
-
'Splain why you wrote two posts that never appeared. You 'splained one of them away in a nebulous fashion (spandex pants and angora sweater).
I never wear spandex. And angora...only on stage. ;)
-
And with fabulous lighting...and a paying audience!
-
I think if you search Mark Chapeaux you'll find what you're looking for. I changed the "K" to "C" as it seemed more French.
-
Well, I was hoping that the phone would be fully charged before I toddled off to the bedroom environment, but it isn't, so I think I must have a beauty sleep now.
-
Sounds like a plan. Good night, BK.
-
Goodnight, everyone else!
-
Hey, it's almost Page 3!
-
I guess I'll just stick around until it changes.
-
Could it possible be??
-
PAGE THREE!!
-
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]PAGE THREE DANCE !![/move]
-
My job here is done (for the night). ;D
-
I outlasted BK, and I'm three hours ahead of him.
I shall make note of this.
-
Good morning, all! Today I begin the Act Two proof of THE KING & I, which will be fun. It's always been one of my favorite scores, and getting a chance to delve into its mechanics has been quite fascinating.
My favorite amusement park ride was always the roller coaster. I haven't been on one for probably twenty-five years or more, but the ride up the first incline with the anticipation of the drop and then the turn downward is a vivid memory.
-
Yesterday I wrote:
I think David's friend Judd Harris will probably make it through on Wednesday. The judges comments greatly influence the votes. Which is why I think David, Travis, and guy #11.
DR TCB wrote:
Jennifer, I kept waiting for you to finish that last sentence (or did I miss it?).
Sorry I meant I thought those 3 would be bottom 3.
-
MattH wrote this about American Idol:
I thought Anwar was one of the worst tonight. "Moon River" never sounded so butchered.
The judges are very strange. Often, they are right on the money - saying that Bo outsang Constantine (the two rockers) but that Constantine has more charisma. Absolutely right.
And then they posed the question which will america prefer. I think charisma will win out here. That is what the AI fans seem to go for.
Then, they overpriase Anwar and Mario to the point of lunacy. (Randy did say he wasn't sure about the start of "Moon River," and he was right; it began very, very badly; improved some by the end, but as a whole, I found it very lacking.)
There are certain people like Anwar and Mario who have huge stage presence and huge fan bases already.
My favorites were Anthony and Joseph.
I think Anthony will be popular. If you go to the message boards i think it will become pretty clear who will stay (haven't gone yet). But I don't think joseph will be staying long.
I think it was quite unfair that some of the contestants got huge airtime during the lead-up rounds. And i wonder if any of the ones we haven't seen can overcome this fact.
I really think mario/constantine/anwar/anthony will breeze through the final 6 men.
Scott reminded me of Ruben. A lumbering, uncharismatic presence with no connection to the audience. No chance. I think he'll be eliminated on Wednesday. I thought Travis had the worst vocals of the night.
I'm not sure, but i think some of the audience will like scott. I don't really care for him. But he is very different with a nice voice.
I really think the judges comments will play a big part in who is in the bottom 3.

Page 3 at 8:30 in the morning (EST) wow!
Got to go to work, but will be back later in the day.
Thanks BK for the corrections. So much for reference books with their information!!!

Hello all. didn't get on the computer at all Sunday and yesterday. Busy spending quality time with the family and friends. Working 8 - 6 & having a 30 mile commute in each direction, M - F doesn't leave a heck of a lot of time durimg the week, so we grab it when we can!!
Yesterday, the Vixter, her friend Emily & I went to see "Because of Winn-Dixie". It was very sweet but very slow moving. The girls kept getting bored. Both of them have read the book several times and complained that the book was better. They said inportnant things in the book were left out and that "the movie makers just completely made stuff up , that didn't happen in the book!!"
I enjoyed it, but my two purist 11 year old critics think the movie makers have some 'splainin' to do!
-
My lumbar region has been giving me some pain the past few days so that I had to sleep on the recliner because the bed hurt my back. Right now I have a lumbar pillow on my chair at work to try to stop the pain.
Oh it is hard to grow old.... (yet preferable to the alternative)
-
I am going to try and do some catching up!!
-
BK, glad you enjoyed SHALL WE DANCE...such a fun movie...even my "we hate movies with subtitles" friends enjoyed it!
-
Jose, my "Jose day" went fairly well...I cleaned and scrubbed the living room, and rearranged the furniture...but I did not get to the kitchen or the bedroom for cleaning purposes...since the weather was so nice I worked outdoors the rest of the weekend, and now my front and back yard look very nice! Planted a lot of flowers, edged and mowed the lawns, pulled weeds, and got everything ready for spring.
Speaking of spring it will be sunny and 63 degrees here today! Wow!
-
My car has LUMBAR support on both front seats.

Have always loved roller coasters from the Wild Mouse at Myrtle Beach to the Cyclone at Coney Island. Modern roller coasters are terrific fun too. I love Space Mountain and that upside down coaster at Busch Gardens.
But the ride that mesmerized me as a kid was the Peter Pan ride at Disneyland. Oh, as we soared over London and then came into view of Never Never Land, I really can't describe in words the thrill that I experienced as a 12 year old in that ride! When we went to Disney World three years ago, I knew it wouldn't be the same, and it wasn't, but it still was a nostalgic memory of that magic moment back in the 1960s when I first got on that ship and sailed away (Noel Coward reference).

Reading the summaries of others' reactions to the AMERICAN IDOL singers is always frustrating for me. I hear things others don't hear, and they hear things that didn't register with me.
I'm at something of a disadvantage because not being into most pop music, many of these songs are unknown to me. I'm hearing them for either the first time or for the only times when others have performed them on IDOL in the past.
Yes, those rabid fans who line up behind the guys do keep some less talented folks around longer than they should be while more deserving singers get axed. Jon Peter Lewis and John Stephens from last year were both around a lot longer than their singing qualified them to be.
This is so different from previous years of IDOL since there will be no wild card round this year. But I'm not sure I like this male/female division. I say, if the 12 men are more talented than the twelve women, it should be an all male show. (That would never happen), but last year, there were far more talented women than men and people who complained there were too many women were people-watching and not going by singing talent. I want to hear the best 12 singers in the finals, and I don't care whether the majority are male or female. That shouldn't matter at all.
-
Judging from what we heard in the audition rounds, I think the women tonight will be far more prone to embellish the melodies with melisma than the men did last night, and for that reason, I'm very wary of tonight's show. I hope we'll get some pure singing, but I'm not confident of that.

TOD: I have always been partial to Space Mountain. So much fun! There is also a roller-coaster in Santa Rosa (it is Santa Rosa, isn't it?...the one right by the water), which was fun, and also had a terrific view. Ironically, even though Brooklyn born and bred, I have never been on the Cyclone, though I know my brother, DR Jay, has, several times. There happens to be a coaster called the Jack Rabbit here in Rochester in an old, family-run amusement park, that is kind of neat. As you come hurtling down the last "big" drop, you think you are going to crash into the ground. You sort of do, in fact, because the tracks are laid in a pit that is carved out of the ground. The first time I saw that, I thought I would lay an egg.
I also like flume rides (especially Splash Mountain, going from "Place" to "Place," thinking nothing "treacherous" would happen....which it does, and then that lovely, lit-up showboat....). With absolutely no sarcasm, I will also say that I love "It's a Small World." It's not a thrilling ride, or a challenging ride, but I love it for its sheer campiness. I have also been known not to pass up a tilt-a-whirl. But I can ALWAYS resist teacups, or anything similar. Nauseating, in a word.
And thanks, DR Jose, for your comments yesterday.
-
TOD: My new favorite ride is MissionSpace at EPCOT, we rode this in previews before the ride was officially opened, a couple of years ago. (July 2003 I believe....)
There are also some slides at "Splish Splash", a water park on here on Long Island that I quite enjoy now
Growing up on Long Island, we had (well still have actually) a local amusment park, Adventureland, which has a fun rollercoaster, in fact its the one that Alan Alda and Michael Caine are riding on in "Sweet Liberty". Some of my friends filmed a student film on this rollercoaster several years before "Sweet Liberty" ws filmed and they have always maintained that they had stolen thier idea!
The flume ride at Six Flags Great Adventure
of New Jersey was always fun,
and the Popeye Raft Ride and the Dudley DoRight Flume ride at Islands of Adventure at Universal Orlando are also favorites
The family of Mann (DH, the Vixter & myself) are actually big fans of the Teacups and ours is always the spinningest teacup there
I rode "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" many times before it was dismantled to make room for Ariel's Grotto, and while I still consider the dismantling of the ride as sacrilege, I must admit, it really was a little on the lame side.....
-
DR Jane... Sorry when I was typing the other night my fingers went a walking without first connecting to the brain... the message about sorry to hear you were under the weather and the query as to whether you needed a bagel refill were meant for you, although I typed Ann instead of Jane....
although Dear Ann, be sure I am continuing to wish you better health, a wonderful job opportunity and will be happy to supply to you with bagels should you so desire!!

Re: Joan Crawford Megamix. That has been all the talk on the Yahoo Joan Crawford group for the past few weeks. Why, you ask, would I be a member of that group? Because I noticed a month or so ago that I was getting tons of hits on my FF article from said group, so I joined to find out--turns out they had been discussing FF behind my back, can you imagine? :) You probably could have guessed that.
TOD: Salt Lake City has its own pretty wonderful amusement park, called Lagoon. My favorite attraction there was the decidedly low-tech "Tilt Room," which was exactly what you might think: a severely tilted room that you had to walk through. I still remember the walls were carpeted so that when you bumped into them it didn't hurt. I can tell you what my least favorite ride of all time was: Mission:Space at Walt Disney World. Oy. I have never been so sick in my life. It took me literally three hours after that ride to be able to function normally again. Betsy and I had been worried about the kids' reactions to it (there are warning signs a-plenty before you board), but of course they jumped right off and wanted to do it again whilst I could barely move from nausea. I'm too old for that sort of thing, I guess.
And speaking of TOD. Has it occurred to anyone that if our word of the day were "Verklarung" we could have a mini-Strauss fest and have Tod und Verklarung? Sorry.
-
Still catching up on the past three days posts.....
Happy belated birthday to Matthew!!
DR Joey...you and your family are in my prayers
-
You are tetched, Vixmom, tetched. :)

DH had pretty much the same reaction as you, he actually said he thought he was going to have a heart attack, I on the other hand loved it!!

because I loved Mission Space.. or just generally? :D

Oy. I do not care for this; care for this I do not. Not this, or any other "simulator" ride. I find them more nausea-inducing than the teacups. We even tried the "kiddie" version at Universal a few years ago....I forget what it was called, but I think it was a "Flintsones Meets the Jetsons" type thing. Even that was not good......
Oy.
So, you may have my place in line, Vixmom!
-
There was actually a passle of us 40-somethings literally lying on the floor in that jungle-gym play area when you come out of the ride, all of us moaning. I think most, if not all, of us were guys. Maybe it's a gender thing. It was easily the sickest I've ever been after a ride. Even after lying down in that play area for a good half hour, I could barely move and I lay down again on a bench in the Imaginarium while Betsy took the kids around that place. Unbelievable.
-
I also loved a ride that would show up when ever one of the traveling carnivals came around (and which is now one of the Vixter's favorites as well) it would be advertised under different names, but basically would be the same ride, you would stand against a padded wall in a giant wheel and it would spin veru fast so that the centrifigual force would plaster you against the wall and then it would spin sidewides and upside down, ...
-
I'm just looking back here on all my favorites and it seems they all involve spinning around very fast... wonder if that makes me a dizzy blonde?

Didn't you love the whole concept of the ride though? Didn't you feel like you really were in a space capsule rocketing through the clouds and out of the atmosphere?

Good morning...a rather early good morning, for me. I was awakened by a dream at 8 am, and I gave up trying to go back to sleep. It was a rather disturbing dream at that. I had died, apparently, but I couldn't fully leave yet. I'd left my body somewhere, but everyone could still see me. It seemed that I had to pack up everything in order to leave. I had this pick-up truck (I've never driven a pick-up truck in my life) full of my earthly posessions. My father was there, and was trying to delay things by insisting that my clothes were still in the dryer and couldn't yet be packed. My HS choir teacher was around too, but I didn't see her. My father told me to avoid her because she didn't know I was still walking around as a ghost, and I would scare her. I remember balking when I learned I was supposed to carry my body with me, in a casket on top of the truck. I drew the line there, I think. The dream was also muddled with packing for a trip with the two-year-old I take care of, or some baby that was vaguely representative of him. Someone had packed stuff on top of the babyseat in the back of the truck, and I was quite annoyed because I had to shift things around so I could hook it up properly to put the baby in it.
The last thing I remember is sitting on the couch in my parents' house, knowing that I had to leave soon, and my sister and some nameless person coming over and saying that they wanted to sing me a song before I left. (note - my sister does not sing) For some reason they chose Somewhere, from West Side Story. It was still ringing in my ears when I awoke with a start.
Bizarre, no? Sorry that was so long...I had to get it out in writing so it would stop bothering my brain.

American Idol: THE BEST singer last night in the best performance last night was Bo Bice.
The last singer last night was the WORST singer last night...he was flat half the time...I thought him disturbingly inept compared to the others.
And wouldn't you know the three judges just fawned over him and praised him to the skies.
It's the end of the world....

Moment of Theater Department: I played the big regional cattle-call auditions last night that all of the Northwest theater companies come to to check out talent. There's always one unforgettable moment every year, and last night's was this:
An elderly (relatively speaking, most of these people were still in high school or just out of college) woman traipsed in wearing a kind of belly-dancer flowing gown sort of thing. Behind her was a man carrying an accordion. I knew we were in for something good (a Richard Rodgers reference). So, she gets up on stage, and begins to speak, and it gets better: she has a very heavy eastern European accent. I can't remember her name but she announces she will be performing Granada whilst her husband accompanies her on accordion. So in she launches on a delightful rendition (she actually had a nice, semi-operatic soprano), replete with beautiful (?) dance moves. She clicked her fingers together as if she were holding castanets, which she was not. Then, as an encore, she began to sing Memory. Now here's the hilarious part (at least to me): as I'm sure y'all know, the song is sung "Mem-ry, blah, blah, blah," but because of her heavy accent, she sang all three syllables of the title: "Mem-o-ry, blah, blah, blah," whilst her husband provided lilting accordion accompaniment. Ready for the punch line? I was talking about this with some of the theater staff after the auditions (all of the audtioners had left, obviously) and it turns out this lady was the Gymnastics coach for the East German Olympic team in the 70s.

Thank you for sharing this dream, although it may have been understandably disturbing to you (after all you were dead in it!) I found it highly entertaining! DH has actually warned me that I better not die first because he isn't going to deal with all my "crap" as he so rudely calls my treasures ;D . he would love the idea that I would HAVE to take it with me!!
-

This is what I consider Tilt-a-Whirl. Am I incorrect in my nomenclature? (But, yes, I thoroughly enjoy these things!)
-
LOL JMK - that woman MUST play MAME!
DR STUART we always called it a Centrifruge - but what did we know?
-
The 3-D attractions at Disney World are loads and loads of fun. Don't know if they qualify as rides exactly, but I loved them.
-
A new word everyday - I feel like I am in Mr Margolis' class.
-
I enjoyed Bo's performance very much. I feel sure he'll end up among the finalists, and I'm going to be interested to see how he fits his rocker voice around some of those theme shows that are surely to come. It will be entertaining.
As a pure singer, I think Anthony is leagues in front of the others, but I'm not sure what his appeal will be. Possibly the same folks who supported John Stephens last year.
-
Oh, great scott! I am back from my New Jersey vacation and finally caught up on all the rampant posting that's been going on around here.
Ann, I want to buy the rights to your dream for a script!
A tilt-a-whirl is more like these little domed cars you and a couple friends can sit in and they rotate you around and around. There are mayby 8 of these cars, each independently spinning on its own axis. Then the apparatus that the cars are on is itself spinning. The cars are usually red and blue.
-
ONE DAY AT A TIME - reunion show.....why?
-
All I saw last night was a guy singing "Never Can Say Goodbye" and he was quite flat, and I wondered why the judges couldn't just say, "You were flat." They basically complemented him and told him to "up his game".
-
That's the way I remember them DR RODZINSKI.

My copy of THE DAYDREAMER arrived today. Don't know when I'll find time to watch it with all this sensational TV still running this month, but it'll go to the top of the stack of to-be-watched DVDs.
Also got ON A CLEAR DAY, MY SISTER EILEEN, 20th CENTURY, and several others. So many DVDs, so little time!
-
Yes, I always liked the Til-a-Whirl and the Scrambler. I haven't ridden either in many decades.
-
Vixmom- I am with you on Mission Space. Fun. But it is very scary and nervewracking because the whole time you are in line, you don't know what the ride does or is exactly, and there are constant warnings that you could get sick and so forth. The buildup to the ride itself is very intense. The Gal refused to go on with me so I went alone, and this made it even more scary.

Re: American Idol
Maybe Anthony will appeal to those who liked Clay?
As for Bo, he needed the judges praise. I really don't see him being a fan favorite. And unless he is amazing from now on, I don't really see him as contending to win.
As for Mario Vasquez. He could have stood there and recited the phone book, and he would be one of the top 2 vote getters last night. For some reason the teeny boppers have chosen them as their favorite.
I'm telling you, I suspect Anwar, Constantine, and Mario can just stand there and they will make it to the final 6 men.
-
You can't beat the Scrambler for a good-time fairgrounds kind of ride. Unlike, say the Zipper, which is physically abusive!
My faves at Walt Disney World are the boat rides in Mexico and especially Norway. The Norwegian one is really atmospheric and, if you let yourself, at one point you will really feel like you are out on the seas.
I also love the ride that takes you inside the sphere at Epcot. "Spaceship Earth". I just appreciate that dated sense of teaching people the wonders of communication and how great man is. You couldn't pull this off as sincerely today, and you couldn't have a ride that called for as much passive listening anymore, as it would be deemed too boring for the kids.
-
ONE DAY AT A TIME - reunion show.....why?
Pat Harrington's legion of fans has demanded it be so.
-
I guess I don't have a favorite ride. The merry-go-round is about as far as I usually go! LOL!
Tom Wopat's new CD (Tom Wopat Sings Harold Arlen) comes out today. I am going to buy it! I love his voice (among other things).
-
I enjoyed Bo's performance very much.
Ummm...how about the folks who supported Clay Aiken?
John Stephens could not sing.
Fedorov is on the same level, performance-wise, as Fantasia.
-
I have a million things coming in the mail (Amazon.com, Ebay, IndiaPlaza, etc.)...I do hope some of the arrive today!
-
I'm up, I'm up. My phone is fully charged and now I must program some of its functions, especially voice mail.
-
Everybody, LUMBAR!
Sounds like one of our dances to me.
-
I also love the ride that takes you inside the sphere at Epcot. "Spaceship Earth".
Ditto. Also "Imagination," or whatever it's called, with that cuddly dragon, Figment.
-
Hard to say what kind of day it will be, weather-wise. It rained through half the night, but there seems to be a really light drizzle going on now, but there is a patch of blue peeking through so we shall see.
-
We have patches of blue, too....and I'm stringin' beads....yes I am!
-
When is Oliver Stone's ALEXANDER coming out on DVD? May? June?
-
Alexander the Great Page Five - stare. :D

I vote that wee bring these styles back...let the streets be full of goodlooking men in short skirts!!
-
LOL.....yes please, only the good-looking ones.
-
I look fine in a mini skirt and stiletto heels.
The blue has disappeared, and the rain, while not heavy, is still falling. Damn them, damn them all to hell.

Get a load of THOSE gams, Miss Grable!
-
Both of Pat's fans wrote in - huh - DR RODZINSKI.
I don't know why but Bonnie Franklin got on my last nerve and I couldn't watch the show without wishing she would just go away. Her voice and her actions AND reactions just seemed so false to me. Just my opinion, of course - I am sure she has fans. I just always wanted to imagine her as the lady on AIRPLANE sitting in the seat with a line of people waiting to slap her.
-
The horse seems indifferent.
-
The Horse Seems Indifferent - that's the title of my next novel.

Good Afternoon!
WOW! It's only 1:45pm here on the East Coast, and we're already on Page 5! Must be BK's new phone.
As for amusement parks and rides...
I've been to Disneyland once - when I was about eight years old. But I've been to Disneyworld about every two to three years since I was 10.
I did ride "20,000 Leauges". Actually, if my memory is correct, we also got stuck on it for a bit. But since I was only eight or nine years old, I enjoyed looking out all the portholes.
Was it "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride" that got replaced with the new Winnie the Pooh attraction? I like(d) both.
I also like the "update" to Space Mountain in Disneyworld. Although, the original - slower - ride was fun too.
And then there's that stand-up "ride" that's hosted by Robin Williams as a robot. Fun, and a good way to get out of the sun and heat for a little bit.
Favorite ride, hands down - or hands up - is "Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror". And since those Disney Imagineers change up the rider every couple of years, it's always something new. And it has one of the best "pre-shows" in the parks.
I used to be able to handle the 3-D simulators, but not so much lately. Even the Star Wars ride had me a bit woozy. Oh, and then there was Body Wars... WHOA!!!
I had a chance to ride "Mission: Space" before it opened, but since I had heard reports of the test dummies coming out with broken necks in the initial testings...
I've been wanting to ride the "Rock n Roll Roller Coaster"- the Aerosmith one - but each time I've been down there, the ride has been closed for maintenance.
And I do enjoy those "4-D" movies: The Muppet One, and, "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience".
-And the Shrek 4-D at Universal is very well done too.
Locally, there's Paramount's King Dominion. Lots of great coasters - who's names escape me right now. Although "The Volcano" is pretty fun - one of those "blast coasters" that shoots you straight up in the air for so many feet in so few seconds at so fast a speed. WHEEEEEEE!!!!!!
And when I was on that audition tour with Universal Studios two summers ago, I did ride all the coasters in the Orlando park in less than two hours - the park attendance was low, and since I was an "employee" I also had a Fast Pass. Needless to say, just because you can, doesn't mean you should. It took me a few hours to get my feet - and head - back to normal. "The Hulk", "Fire and Ice", the Drop Zone one, etc.
-
I've been to the desert on an indifferent horse
It felt good to get out of the rain
-
DR JMK - Just how much time do they give the auditionees at those regionals?
I'll be playing the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) auditions in Greensboro, NC, next week, and I'm sure I'll have a memorable audition or two to report on. In fact, I wonder if your memorable auditionee will be in Greensboro next week. -Maybe I'll ask to waive the 90 second time limit if I see them in line.
;)
-
Jose, my "Jose day" went fairly well...I cleaned and scrubbed the living room, and rearranged the furniture...but I did not get to the kitchen or the bedroom for cleaning purposes...since the weather was so nice I worked outdoors the rest of the weekend, and now my front and back yard look very nice! Planted a lot of flowers, edged and mowed the lawns, pulled weeds, and got everything ready for spring.
Speaking of spring it will be sunny and 63 degrees here today! Wow!
Good for you! Well, it took me another day or two to get to my kitchen floor, so...
I wish I had more of a green thumb. I tend to buy so-called indestructible plants since I am usually not here to tend to them daily. It is amazing how long a Golden Pothos can go without being watered.
:P
My parents are big gardeners, and used to keep quite the vegetable garden when we were younger. Nowadays, they're more into landscaping. Myself, it still takes a bit of prodding to get me to help mow the lawn. Gotta watch my hands, ya' know.
;)
-
King's Island in Cincy, as a kid, that was probably as close as I came to feeling like I was walking around inside my TV set. Back then, it was Hanna Barbera everything and there was even a ride that literally was a gigantic, building-sized TV set and you rode into it on a boat and tons of Hanna Barbera stuff was projected on the walls. I met the Banana Splits, which was quite a celebrity coup for me at that young age.
King's Dominion I also went to once and the thing that stands out was a house that was sideways, supposedly built by Yogi Bear, and you had to practically walk sideways to get through it.
These are now part of the Paramount empire with the Great Americas in Chicago and Santa Clara, which used to use Warner Brothers cartoon characters.
-
LOL.....yes please, only the good-looking ones.
For instance this man, not really a skirt kinda guy IMHO
(though featured on a "men in skirts" site...)
-
I assume that this is from a more reliable source than my last post regarding John Raitt's death several days before it happened.
At long last, the Eisner company will be releasing an authorized DVD release (VHS too I assume) of SONG OF THE SOUTH in the fall of 2006 for the film's 60th anniversary. There will be many extras and they are going to hire an African-American celebrity to introduce and host the film, explaining the film in the context of the time it was released. It's about time.
-
I've been to the desert on an indifferent horse
It felt good to get out of the rain
well that's an indifferent horse of an indiifferent color

RE: "One Day At A Time" Reunion show... Well, some of the review blurbs I've been coming across actually seem to like this one, so...
I liked the show. And I still remember having a crush on Boyd Gaines. -Glen Scarpelli never did anything for me. ;) And there was a time when I did know the whole theme song by heart.
I worked with Bonnie Franklin a few years ago. She was fun, and handled her whole "One Day At A Time" notoriety very well.
*A team of DC "shock jocks" used to have a sort of running gag with Bonnie Franklin - well, Bonnie Franklin's mouth. They always wondered just how many tennis balls could be fit in there. So, whenever they wanted to call someone a "big mouth", they would invoke Ms. Franklin's name.
;D
-
OK - I have to get some errands and work done this afternoon...
It's been swell, It's been great...
Laters...
-
OH!!!.....
LUMBAR
-And mine doesn't feel too bad today. :)
-
Thanks for the news WEL!
-
I don't do roller coasters or those Tower of Terror things or anything else that makes you want to puke.
The last time I went to Disneyland, my Star Wars junkie friend Ariel and I went on Star Tours about seven times in a row. That was fun. We were at Disneyland with our high school orchestra at a competition. We practiced really hard and we were really good. We really wowed the judges with our practice session, but when we started to play the one they were going to judge, one of our cello players who will remain *nameless* started playing way too fast and got his whole section confused. That messed up the rest of us, and we ended up coming in dead last in the competition. We are still bitter.
-
Nice to hear about Bonnie, dRJOSE. Then she must have been acting when she was playing an annoying bullying pill. She is a GREAT actress!
-
Yes, DR RODZINSKI - King's Island used to be Hanna Barbera Land. It was interesting. Now it's a LOT of Star Trek characters, etc.
-
Oh my, DRSANDRA. That of course reminds me of the review that Oscar Levant quoted about one of his early performances:
Last night Oscar Levant left his contemporaries and his conductor far behind.
-
Hey, Vixmom, I keep looking for your reviews but have not seen them. Not that I'm excoriating you or anything.
-
New phone is nice. Same brand (Panasonic) as I had. Very easy to program, and putting names and numbers into it is a breeze.
-
I used to watch ONE DAY AT A TIME regularly as a kid. I really don't know why, however. I did always think Valerie Bertinelli was a pretty good actress.
GOOD TIMES is another one I just can't explain to myself!
-
Hey, Jrand54, on the EZ Boards (used for Scarlet Street and ClassicHorror film boards) how in tarnation do you put an avatar on your profile? I have looked and looked and looked for a way (I seem to be the only one without).
-
Hmmmmmmm......I will see if I can find the link. It has been awhile since I did it.
-
DR VIXMOM - that man in that exact skirt is exactly what I was talking about...LOL.

On the opening page - where your name is under logged in.....click underneath where it says ezInBox and then go to Edit Profile and you can upload a picture.

PAGE SIX!!!

Today I received in the mail:
INSIDE DARK SHADOWS dvd - finally ordered this DRDANISE. Looking forward to it!
3 - count them - 3 ROCKY JONES dvd's. I have three, now I have six. I think I have them all. And I only had one of them on VHS.
-
My neighbor down the street is getting a new puppy. A few minutes ago, he brought me the last of the litter -- a shy blonde female with flop-over ears. I sadly declined her, as Sasha, Tumbly, and Joshie informed me "We are not amused."
-
DRLAURA - a difficult choice.
-
Thanks JRand54! I will try to do edit my profile tonight!
And 3 Rocky Jones DVDs! Holy cow...I know what you will be doing for the rest of the day! Let me know if Pamela Duncan shows up in any of them...I think she was on that show a few times...or am I thinking of a different space show?
-
Well, I went to EZBoard and added my photo by linking to the one I have here....but it is all streched out!!! I will have to fix it when I get home.
-
I'm going to try and write another page or two, then go out and pick up any packages which may have arrived.
The rain has stopped and it looks much brighter out. No sun, but white instead of gray skies.
-
LUMBAR!

Hey, Vixmom, I keep looking for your reviews but have not seen them. Not that I'm excoriating you or anything.
Uuummm, the dog ate my reviews, I mean, I think I left it in my locker...oh wait! Maybe I left in on the schoolbus... IS this going to effect my final grade?

This morning I went for a walk, and this is what I saw:

This morning I went for a walk, and this is what I saw:
OOOH, DR Laura, that is beautiful!! Are you sure you live in the desert?
-
A brief respite in work before I head home.
We had a great time on LI this weekend even if we did wake up on Monday to snow which made getting back to the city a little more difficult than anticipated. I didn't believe the weatherman so I thought on Sunday evening we would wake up Monday morning to nada. Oh, well.
We ended up watching the extras on Broadway: The American Musical over the weekend. I must say I think the extra material was better than the program. I enjoyed the program when it was broadcast but enjoyed more the stuff that was left out. Again, Oh, well.
Last night we watched (again) I Could Go On Singing, a favorite Judy movie of mine. We found it at BJs this weekend for $9 and I couldn't pass it up. The picture looks great but the sound was not good and we ended up turning on the subtitles! I feel so old. Judy singing Hello Bluebird and the title song still gives me goosebumps.
I'm seeing the revival of La Cage this evening. I'm seeing Spamalot next Tuesday and All Shook Up next Wednesday.
Well, I must finish up before I leave for the day.
Later.
-
OOOH, DR Laura, that is beautiful!! Are you sure you live in the desert?
It's very beautiful now -- but wait until the July photos!
-
DR Laura, that photo looks like a beautiful painting!
-
Just visited www.oldies.com (http://www.oldies.com) and ordered DVDs of the old TV shows FEDERAL MEN, NORTHWEST PASSAGE (starring Keith Larsen....yum!), and LOCK-UP! Plus the all midget cast 1930s B-western TERROR OF TINY TOWN! LOL!
-
Don't make me excoriate you, vixmom. Get to work!
All right, the white has once again been replaced by the gray, and it's sprinkling. I'm going out now before it gets any worse. I'll be back shortly, however.
-
I'm seeing the revival of La Cage this evening. I'm seeing Spamalot next Tuesday and All Shook Up next Wednesday.
Oh! To be your shadow. I envy you all your play watching... I look forward to lots of reviews!
I loved the original La Cage -- I saw it October 14, 1987 (just knew that off the top of my head!!) and have been wondering how the revivial would stand up
Tomorrow I come from the Island of Long to "THE CITY". I am driving in with the Vixter and her friend Jen , and their American Girl dolls to visit "The American Girl Place" over on 49th & 5th... hopefully I will be able to get over to the Virgina Theatre and pick up a couple of tickets for "Little Women" for the March break... based on your review we are going to try it....
and then hopefully I can also make it over to the Hikton Theatre and try to pickup tickets for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang....
-
Don't make me excoriate you, vixmom. Get to work!
Mercy!! Mercy!!! (Oh, A Rocky Horror Picture Show reference)
-
DR Ben, if you wait outside the Spamalot stage door lookout for Tim Curry, he stepped on poor WFO's foot after a performance of "Amadeus".
-
I think GOOD TIMES was hilarious, and the audience's participation in the play going on before them was often part of my enjoyment. They really, really GOT that show!
I couldn't stand ONE DAY AT A TIME. It just never made me laugh. Had nothing against any of the participants.
-
Great news about SONG OF THE SOUTH (though that year's wait is pretty unfuriating. I will enjoy the one many of us bought until the "official" release comes around.
-
I loved the original La Cage -- I saw it October 14, 1987 (just knew that off the top of my head!!)
Do you remember this for a good reason, or bad? I mean, I used to remember the date that Patty Hearst was kidnapped (it was either Feb 4 or 5), but to pinpoint a night that you saw a show! That's impressive!
Dare I ask, but what seats?
-
Oh, my gosh! Tower of Terror! Thank you for mentioning it. We rode it four times when we were at Disney-MGM three years ago. What a marvel!
-

It was the Wednesday matinee before DH & my wedding. His sister and her husband were in from Grande Praire, Canada. It was their first trip to NY and they wanted to see a real Broadway musical. As to seats, I couldn't tell you the exact row and number, but DH had gone to the theatre and managed to score front seat center mezzine seats....

Well, it was so many years ago I figured it was public domain by now!! ;D Besidesz, it was a public health warning ;D

The Vixter and I went on this , I loved it, she didn't...but not because of the drop...she was freaked out by the ghosts, specifically the little girl ghost... she said, "What kind of place makes you think of dead children? That doesn't seem very Disney like to me!!" She was all for writing a letter to Michael Eisner to chastise him , but of course forgot about it by time we got home!

It took several years, but the Dear Partner and I figured out that we were at the same performance of CHU CHEM (don't ask!) together, before we started dating.
Since we were intro-fo-duced (oooh, a MOST HAPPY FELLA reference!) by a mutual friend, and said friend was associate company manager of the show, and we both remember a horrific windstorm that practically tore down the marquee of the Ritz (now Walter Kerr) Theatre, we just had one last place to confirm it: our ticket stubs! And indeed it was true.....
-
Well, releasing SONG OF THE SOUTH makes sense. Disney, with the release of CINDERELLA at the end of this year, will have exhausted its supply of classics, at least for a first go-round. With the hype and the fact that the movie has been unseen by the general public for decades, they should make a mint on its release.
-
Actually, now that you bring up SONG OF THE SOUTH, Splash Mountain is probably one of the best rides I've ever been on. It lasts a long time, has a great buildup with the music from SOTS, has a couple good hills before you get to the top of the really steep hill for the big splash. It is satisfactual.
-
Hello? When is Disney releasing THE BOATNIKS on DVD? And why does Leonard Maltin refuse to acknoledge the existence of this film?
-
George - I got the SONG OF THE SOUTH info from an "unofficial" Disney site that has contacts within the company... Jim Hill Media.
-
My mom turned down a puppy? She's going to be whining about that when I get home.
So what's going to happen to the puppy, mom? Maybe she can be Sugar's little sister.
-
Hello? When is Disney releasing THE BOATNIKS on DVD? And why does Leonard Maltin refuse to acknoledge the existence of this film?
Don't be ridiculous, there is no such film
-
Well, guess what? I had one tiny package - a CD from Germany. No DVDs. Although, everything wasn't put out yet, so there's a chance something might show up later.
Well, guess what? It is now pouring (and I mean pouring) once again. It's supposed to be completely over by tomorrow night, and I'm hoping that that is true because I have HAD IT with this fershluganah rain.
LUMBAR!

Awesome, vixmom!

Rhetorics class is about to start, and we are going to do an "activity." I am very excited. *Grumble, grumble*
-
It will be fun to see SONG OF THE SOUTH after so many years. I saw it in rerelease back in the early 70s, I guess it was. I seem to remember liking it.
The only Disney movie I am awaiting (since Bambi will be out in a few weeks) is A TIGER WALKS. I really like that movie, and it has Brian Keith in it.

I have a Japanese VHS Release, its in English with Japanese subtitles. I have had it for years, and I bought it froma dealer at one of the Stony Brook ICON's many many moons ago....
-
Well it's time to toddle off to the LIE and the dreaded commute home....tomorrow is my American Girl Place Day, so send me vibes of survival and non-bankruptcy!!!
Talk to you on Thursday!!
-
I do not do roller coasters or ferris wheels, teacups make me nauseous...I'm very prone to motion sickness. My speed is Pirates of the Carribean. I aways like the dodge'em cars. The Universal tram ride is fun.
BK my friend Roger called me from Kentucky yesterday. He said he had read the first of the Kritzer books and quite enjoyed it.
-
Not much of an amusement park ride rider myself, but I have fond memories of a beautiful carousel at Great Falls of the Potomac, where we visited when I was about 6.
In 1996, when our son was 10, we took a 3 and a half week driving trip west, spending a long weekend in the LA area. Spent a magical Friday at Disneyland, riding Star Tours twice and singing at the top of our lungs from the front car of It's a Small World (Rob was so embarrassed - what are parents for?). The following Monday, we went to Universal Studios and rode the then-new Jurassic Park flume (front row again - we got drenched) and ET's bicycles. My favorite there, though, was that L-O-N-G escalator down to the movie lots - I got chills thinking about all the movie history.
-
George - I got the SONG OF THE SOUTH info from an "unofficial" Disney site that has contacts within the company... Jim Hill Media.
Thanks for the info. I found the website and read the article (http://www.jimhillmedia.com/mb/articles/showarticle.php?ID=1313). Very interesting.
-
Re: Song of the South. I'm pretty sure I posted here many moons ago that Leonard Maltin had told me it was definitely coming out (maybe it was another forum I post to--I am such a posting sl*t, you know :) ). (Mr. Maltin had been in touch with me about my Frances Farmer article and we somehow got onto the subject of PC-ness and I asked him about SOTS).
Re: Chu Chem. I actually have several charts from the original Broadway run. The frightening thing is, I can't for the life of me remember how I got them.
Jose, the auditioners have 3 minutes to do any combo of songs and/or monologues.
-
Glad Roger liked Benjamin Kritzer.
Still miserable and rainy outside. No more packages, so at least I can stay in. I've finished writing for the day, I think - did a good number of pages, so I feel fine.
-
It must be siesta time all of a sudden. Or have we entered The LUMBAR Zone.

Does anyone want to see a Joan Crawford megamix disco type video?
SURE, WHY NOT?
-
Thank you. The vibes are working and I still have plenty of bagels left . I don't eat much at a time. Just now I had a quarter of a rye bagel.
-
DR KERRY email me you pic and I will fix it for you.
-
DRBEN - re: I COULD GO ON SINGING - I have had the VHS for quite awhile, and I was hoping the DVD would be an improvement on the sound. No such luck. It's TERRIBLE! There is one line that Dirk Bogarde says that I have never understood - but I never thought of turning on the subtitles....maybe I will read it! Judy does such a fine job - and I think she looks and sounds great. I like the songs - and since Dirk is one of my favorites it's fun to see them together.
Just Sunday I won the bid on a 4-CD set of Judy in a blue box with a diamond tear.....does anyone else have this? It has a video with it. Paid much BELOW what the Amazon and other internet sites are listing it as, so I hope it's worth it.

Hi all. We had a very nice day at work today. A lot of laughter which is just the tonic I needed.
I gave up on Wi-Fi. Clearly it is one of “Great ideas in theory but the reality is that it doesn’t work” technologies. I won’t waste any more time/energy on it. I am only angry that they can sell that junk knowing that it doesn’t work and that the person has to be a rocket scientist to even try it.
I’m sorry to hear about all of the rain you guys are still having in California. The pictures we are seeing are just horrible. That poor little girl who was killed sitting at her computer—in her own room--by that boulder. Many good vibes and prayers to those who need them.
We had it pretty bad with the hurricanes but this is at least equal to that.
It’s been years since I’ve been to Disney or any theme park for that matter. I am trying to talk my Mom into going to Sea World when I get back from NY. Now that we have Bonnie, there is no reason we can’t go to Orlando for a nice day trip.
I like roller coasters but have notice that I can’t ride as many of them one right after the other as I used to. Tower of Terror was fun but not as much as the first time when you didn’t really know what was going to happen.
When I went to the Empire State Building, I did the NY ride that was really just a movie and found myself closing my eyes a couple of times—not that I was scared but it was making me rather ill. Of course, as I have said before, I wasn’t feeling well to start with so that may have been a factor.
I’m looking forward to the annual Ren Fest that is coming up soon. It’s held almost every weekend in March and part of April so I will be able to go like always. Does anyone here like the hammered dulcimer? I always make it a point to listen to several of the musicians. There is one group called “Empty Hats” that are quite good and I look forward to hearing them every year.
DR Ann, this must be the week for weird dreams. I dreamed that my Dad stopped by for pizza. Deep dish pizza and my Mom was fighting with him because she wanted thin crust. I remember saying something like, “I’ll order BOTH kinds. Dad doesn’t get to stop by that often. “
Last night I dreamed about getting on a airplane to California. I was sobbing because I didn’t want to go. (Sorry to you people in California). I don’t remember it all but at some point I went into the cabin where the pilot was and looked at way the plane was made. It looked like plaster of paris and it had HOLES in it! I remember thinking, “How can this thing fly with those holes?”
Dreams are wild. I still wish someone would invent a video recorder for them. :)

I don't think I have been on that. At first I thought you meant the ride where the floor drops out from under you. I love that ride except for one problem, I slide down the wall. The last time I was on that was at Hershey Park and I was wearing a skirt. As I went down the skirt went up. The ride stopped just before I was about to be very embarrassed.
Sliding down the wall was terrifying as a child. As an adult it was only annoying. I found it interesting Bryan stayed up with everyone else but Craig was sliding down with me. I wonder if he would have that problem today since he is much bigger now than he was at ten.

Does that about cover it?

Rain has stopped for the moment, but skies are gray and nasty-looking.

I guess I don't have a favorite ride. The merry-go-round is about as far as I usually go! LOL!
Tom Wopat's new CD (Tom Wopat Sings Harold Arlen) comes out today. I am going to buy it! I love his voice (among other things).
Michael Barnum you are such a fibber. You wouldn't care if Tom Wopat was a mute. You are only buying the CD so you can stare at his picture on the cover.

DR DANISE - yes that about covers it.

Vixmom-good lumbar vibes!
Ann, bizzare dream, yes. No wonder you couldn’t go back to sleep.

Vixmom, you are so much fun. :D
DRLaura thank you for the beautiful photo.

Well it's time to toddle off to the LIE and the dreaded commute home....tomorrow is my American Girl Place Day, so send me vibes of survival and non-bankruptcy!!!
Talk to you on Thursday!!
Wish I could join you.
-
Watching The Motorcycle Diaries, which I'm finding both tough and slow going. It's also two hours and seven minutes long.
-
I just received a message from Danise saying she is having internet problems and was cut off before she could read yesterdays posts.
Hopefully she will return tomorrow.

Space Mountain is my all time favorite ride.
I think roller coasters are great (except for the one at Pacific Ocean Park I would have fallen out of if Keith hadn’t pulled me back in and held on to me.) are great. I even like the ones that go upside down.
The Carousel is another favorite, especially the one at Santa Monica Pier. My dream is to own an original carousel horse.
I liked just about anything that spins.
JRand-I loved the Teacups at Disneyland.
Pirates of the Caribbean and the Matterhorn are other Disneyland favorites.
Tower of Doom is great fun too but I thought it was called something else.

Charles I agree with you about Ferris Wheels, except for a different reason-heights bother me, especially when I’m rocking.
My dream was to go on a romantic ride on the Ferris Wheel at Pacific Ocean Park. The entire time in line I kept telling Keith “I hope we stop at the top and can kiss, just like in the movies”. Well stop we did, kiss we did not do. I sat there clinging to Keith in terror. ;D
Years later at the park in Niagara Falls I was going to brave the Ferris Wheel again to make Bryan and Craig happy. Keith said no way and took them for me. LOL
-
Jane, Heights bother me as well and rocking with only a simple bar between me and plummeting doom is not my idea of a good time. I remember going on them when I was young but no more.

I'm back from a three-hour visit with DR Rodzinski, who now is the happy owner of the Classic Images DRMBarnum sent me. We met at Starbucks, 81st and Broadway, and the time flew by. I thought he'd grab the magazine and run, but he stayed for a very enjoyable visit, during which we tweaked the tails of the cosmos and solved the riddles of the human condition. I had a decaf caffe latte and he drank some very rich chocolate concoction. DRRodzinski is one smart cookie, as his posts already show, and I look forward to our next bit of socializing.
I just heard, too, that Trude Rittman died today around noon. She was a beautiful lady I adored for both her charm and enormous talent: Trude was the unsung heroine of a great many musicals, from dance music to songs in Mary Martin's version of PETER PAN. Her dance music for CAROUSEL, ALLEGRO, BRIGADOON, and a ton of other shows were brilliant examples of taking another's tune and turning it into rhapsodies for orchestra and dancer. Her choral arrangements for THE SOUND OF MUSIC are absolutely right.
I don't know when she came to America, but I know she was a Cologne Conservatory student of Walter Braunfels, a late romantic composer banned by the Nazis, and her musical gifts were enormous. While my admiration for her is boundless, I would say that my two favorite pieces of her arranging work are the Hornpipe in CAROUSEL, where she makes magic out of "Blow high, Blow Low" and the "when I worked in the mill" music, and the gorgeous music for the "Come to Me, Bend to Me" ballet in BRIGADOON.
-
I do not like ferris wheels either.
-
ONE DAY AT A TIME - reunion show.....why?
So they can keep up their SAG insurance.
-
Anyone who can work with music makes magic as far as I am concerned.

My fav new rollercoaster

Sorry MBARNUM no Pamela Duncan on any of the Rocky Jones DVD's.

LOL DR MS.

Hmmmmm....according to the IMDB, Pamela Duncan was in the episode(s) that were used to create "The Magnetic Moon" whch hasn't been released yet.

Talking of Glenn Scarpelli. He left One Day At a Time before the last season to do the worst Broadway musical I ever saw called Street Heat. (Starmites was better) The only musical/play on Broadway I ever walked out during intermission. And Scarpelli hasn't done much since.
-
Well, I've been scooped! But it is true, I have met my very first in-person HHW'er (not counting IRIS, who it turned out I had met well before I had posted on here). The great Elmore3003, who looks precisely like his picture, for those who may have had doubts. A GFO (Gentleman First Order) and graduate of Miami University in Ohio, rival of my grad school Bowling Green Falcons. So of course we spent the whole time talking about the great football clashes between our schools... Don't believe that. But DO believe that if Elmore's bookcases ever fall on him again, he has an HHW pal who can go dig him out of the rubble.
-
Here is a picture of Glen Scarpelli today. This is what years of not acting does to you.

Whew! Patsy Parsons who played the evil Suzaraine of Oficious named Cleolanta is the widow of William Powell Jr and was President of the Agouras Hills Chamber of Commerce in 2000, although she is no longer listed as an officer.
-
For the Pat Harrington fans out there, both of you, as JRand would say, he gives a fine performance in THE PRESIDENT'S ANALYST, one of the great movies ever.
-
Pat Harrington and Bonnie Franklin....for me that's a double whammy! :P
The only thing that would make me run faster would be guest appearances by Beverly Garland and Bernadette Peters. :P :P

Good Evening!
Whew! What a nice number of posts to come back to!.
Whew! I did this, I did that. I picked up this, I picked up that. I drove here, I drove there. Quite a nice couple of semi-productive hours for me today
And I also managed to get a two mile run in - well, two one-mile runs. Lacrosse practice was starting at the track, so they asked all the joggers to leave, then I drove over to the park to run the second mile.
And I made dinner tonight too. Mexican - Chicken Molé. Good, not spectacular. I just always forget how "subtle" molé can be - and should be - at times. I guess I was looking for a bit of a kick tonight. I'll probably spice up the leftovers tomorrow with some habanero hot sauce.
Whew! And I even did some laundry.
Whew!
LUMBAR!

As for tonight's "American Idol"...
Tomorrow night is going to VERY interesting.
-
As for the "One Day At A Time: Reunion Special"...
I liked it.
Michael Lembeck looks great.
Glen Scarpelli looks... OK.
;)
But I thought it was a good reunion show. They even acknowledged MacKenzie Phillips drug abuse problem and her subsequent "hiatus" from the show.
-
Now I'm watching that PBS Frontline show that has been distributed to the affiliates in both a "dirty" and "clean" version - four-letter words.
I find it very sad that PBS had to state that they could not help out the local affiliates if someone chooses to bring obscenity charges against them for the use of the four-letter words in tonight's show.
As one commentator stated, it's about war. It's real.
-
RE: tonight's American Idol.
I really feel like those who didn't get much air time until now got shafted.
My favs are: Nadia (is that the name of the rocker girl with the big poofy hair), Carrie (blonde country girl who the judges raved about), Amanda (las vegas showgirl). And I sometimes like the loud girl (mikala sp?). And I think I might like Lindsey.
There were a bunch of girls who are in big trouble. Sarah is one.
Anyhow, more tomorrow.
-
OK, folks...
I'm afraid I must depart for now... Not sure if I'll be back later "today". I need to take care of a bunch of things here before heading to bed, and they may take a bit of time - and a lot of attention.
Laters...
Goodnight.
-
Elmore you gave a very nice tribute.
Rodzinski, what chocolate concoction did you have? I don’t drink coffee, don’t care for the sweets at Starbucks and I’m hoping you will solve my problem of what to order the next time I’m forced to go there.

Did she talk about the time she spent going to schools and talking to teens, urging them not to use drugs?

Jane- I don't drink coffee either, so I am happy with this new thing they have which they seem to be under strict orders to refer to as CHANTICO DRINKING CHOCOLATE, as if "Chantico" was not pretentious enough as it is!
It is really rather incredible, if you are a chocolate fan. It is just incredibly rich and thick hot chocolate. I mean, as close as you could come to drinking a melted chocolate bar. It is so rich, they serve it only in tiny little cups.

But I had a big decaf caffe latte! And I brought home a slice of banana nut cake for breakfast. Yum! The penultimate episode of NYPD BLUE was quite wonderful tonight. It's going out with a bang. I hope I do!

When I rode Splash Mountain, I wondered how kids today would even know who these characters are since the movie has been out of general circulation for so long. I guess "The Laughin' Place" is on one of the Disney CDs of song hits, but I still think those Br'er Rabbit stories in SOTS are exceptional examples of animation, and the framing live action story is no more demeaning to the various races than JEZEBEL, GONE WITH THE WIND, or THE LITTLE COLONEL.
-
Love Ferris Wheels, and in the old days, there used to be double and triple decker ferris wheels which were really fun!
-
Trude Rittman - oh, that name brings back such memories. Lots of piano music I learned as a kid was arranged for piano by Trude.
-
Got 2 of my zillion packages that are coming to me via USPS/UPS/FedEx...2 Allison Hayes photos (one that I think I might already have..oops!), and a DVD of SKULL AND CROWN which is an old 1930s Rin Tin Tin movie...my first, which I just finished watching...and it was sort of fun!
-
AMERICAN IDOL tonight.
I thought it was as close to a total disaster as a show could be. I found NONE of the women exceptional, and a couple were verging on tone deafness. Maybe not quite as bad as Leah LaBelle last year but very close. A couple were so terrified they couldn't move and couldn't get their voices to cooperate with what they were trying to do vocally.
And the girls who the judges raved over were at best mediocre. One of the ones they gave a fairly hard time to that I liked the best was Celena. She started low and quietly and built to a peak of power. All of the other girls kind of started off blasting and had nowhere to go.
But there was NOT ONE FEMALE tonight who could carry the shoes of Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson, or LaToya London from last year.
Though there were some fine singers over the two nights, I truly did not see a star in the rough. But perhaps some will catch fire in the coming weeks. It took Kelly Clarkson several weeks to build up her courage and turn on the charisma. It could happen with one of these 24 as well.
-
Scott Foley was the guest star on HOUSE tonight playing a baseball star with unusual, life-threatening illnesses.
Can I simply ask this: was Jennifer Garner crazy? That is one fine man!
-
SWW I suggest you change Fletcher’s diet. ;D
You mean, regarding his "toot"-elage?
Today, we took him to see the woman in charge of the local Dalmatian Rescue group. She was thrilled to see him again, as always. She also told us that he's always had the toots (she took care of him for several months before he joined us), as do about half of the Dals in her care. It's just one of those breed things.
We're already careful about what he eats. Beef and beef by-products aren't good for Dals, as they can develop kidney problems. As a result, we've switched the whole pack to a lamb/rice mixture, and everyone is happy.
-
If you can believe it, the rain is STILL pouring down.
-
I've been very good, food-wise (and have been for the last week), but I am REALLY craving something sweet. I've considerably under 1500 calories for the day, so I think I could do something. We'll see if the rain lets up so I can go to the store and see what's what.
-
Here's some very exciting news. In a mere 1000 postings we shall achieve our new posting plateau and it's a pretty amazing one and will require a huge celebration. Yes, in a mere 1000 postings we shall achieve to new grand total of 100,000 posts.

House was a very good reason to miss the ODAAT reunion. Not that many good reasons were needed, of course, but House is a very good reason for missing most everything that's on the tube these days. (With the exception of Good Eats, of course.)
I particularly love how the show gives Hugh Laurey different, eccentric spins and interests for his character. This week: monster truck rallys! Whooda thunk!

Dear BK: Try finding some fruit.

Der Brucer was in his room tonight, watching/listening to American Yodel so that I wouldn't have to pay it any bother. Problem was, he had the volume set just loud enough that I could still hear much of the show. It sounded to me, most of the time, like someone was pulling a bow back and forth on the ol' cat gut. Unfortunately, the poor cat was still attached.

[move=up,scroll,6,transparent,100%][size=20]Page Ten Square Dance!!![/size][/move]
-
Let's see - the Page Ten dance occurred at 8:55. It is now 10:24. What is wrong with this photograph. I'll tell you what's wrong with this photograph - it's the ATTACK OF THE WUSSBURGERS, that's what's wrong with this photograph.
-
I was busy checking out some other stuff.
-
Besides, we had hamburgers, not wussburgers.
With grilled onions, cheese, bacon, tomatoes, avocado...
Oh, and baked beans.
Now I'll be able to keep up with Fletcher! ::)
-
Oh the things I learned about DARK SHADOWS - oh the humanity. Very interesting. I am glad I finally purchased this DVD which will satisfy my DS curiosity for quite awhile.
It is cold here AGAIN. So we get a dusting of snow.
-
I haven't seen derBrucer's posts lately.
-
What are the Allison photos of, MBARNUM?
-
I am about the scan the Allison Hayes Picture of the Week - even though it is late in the day, and no one asked about it.
-
Der Brucer has been busy with other areas of his life. He still has strong connections to Southern California and the political people he used to work with. I keep him up to date about the goings-on around here.
-
Other areas of his life? What is haineshisway.com - chopped liver?
We saw a couple of Allison Hayes Mexican lobby cards at the Courts show, although I can't remember what movies they were from.
-
"I was cuttin' up chicken for dinner one night and my husband comes in and starts screaming - 'You been screwin' the milkman...you been screwin' the milkman!' And he just kept screaming....."

People come, people go, like Grand Hotel.
-
Thanks for the update DR SWW.
And you didn't BUY them?

MR BK do you have an account at Itunes?

Other areas of his life? What is haineshisway.com - chopped liver?
Pate de foie gras avec truffles noir, I'm sure. ;D
-
DR CHARLES POGUE after perusing the DARK SHADOWS dvd tonight, I have come to the conclusion that you have a resemblance to Mr John Karlin.
-
That would be Mr Willie Loomis aka John Karlen. ;D
(http://www.darkshadowsdvd.com/images/face1.jpg)
-
I do not have an account at iTunes.
-
Mr. Karlen, who later played Mary Beth Lacey's long-suffering husband, Harvey Lacey, on Cagney and Lacey.
-
Okay. I won a gift certificate that I will never get to use.
I think DR GEORGE has an account. If you do DR GEORGE let me know.
-
That's the guy DR SWW - he wasn't quite as....uh....young by then.
-
I think it's time for bed.
-
JRand54, I do not see the resemblance.
I have been watching a very strange production of MACBETH with Ian McKellen and Judi Dench based on a 1976 RSC production. It's rather claustrophic and, while I would not say it's my favourite version of MacBeth, it has some really wonderful stuff in it...the witches, the Banquo scene, Dench's "Out damn spot" speech...
-

LOL.....maybe I can find a better picture of him.
